Transmutation Splitters Removed Already?

I recently transmuted my Crimson Mask on top of my Mask of the Queen, for the ascended stats. Would I unlock both? Or does that override the ascended and Mask of the Queen skins?

You should have both items unlocked in the wardrobe as long as you still have the item with you when the patch comes.

I’m pretty sure you will get the ascended mask that provides the stats and the crimson mask but will lose the look from the mask of the queen since that was a skin and has now been overwritten by the crimson mask skin. At least, that is how it worked with trans-splitters and I’m pretty sure this will work the same way.

Nope, the blog post specifically states that transmuted items both skins would be unlocked.

No, it said the skin that provided the stat and the skin that provided the looks. The mask of the queen did not provide that stats. It provided the look and was overwritten by the crimson mask.

I like the change in the open world but I agree that hub cities should be made exempt from the megaserver concept. I don’t do RP but they are an important part of the community and we should encourage ANet to do what they can to help these players enjoy the game the way they have been playing so far.

I would also like to know how easily we will be able to change between instances of the map if we find a friend playing on another instance? Will it be like it was in the cities in GW1 in which new instances were numbered and you could switch to another non-full instance by simply selecting it?

Just..not..funny!

Well, I probably would not do a jumping puzzle today but it’s just a joke for a single day. I think I can live with skipping jps for a day so that people can enjoy a good laugh. It’s only one day and it’s kind of tradition that ANet does something funny and annoying on this day – glad they kept it up.

Are Monsters bobble heads too? if so I wonder what Teq looks like

I was at the TTS teq run just as this went live.

Yes his head is huge.

Yes it is hilarious.

People were laughing so hard I am surprised we actually completed the run.

(if you have a mini teq you can take it out and see a preview)

My personal favorite is an asura wearing Braham’s helm.

I’m not sure which of the two near the grand plaza you are talking about. If it is the one on the spar to the north there is some rubble you jump up almost directly east of there to get to the spar. If it is the one out on the spar to the East, you have to come around the hill to the north west to a ledge and can jump from there to the spar. from coriolis plaza take the gate to the sw and hug the wall on your left.

I tried to get on last night to do some WvW, but it just felt hollow. I gotta say, the town clothes change upset me, but I didn’t think it’d harsh my buzz THIS much.

Was thinking of getting on and doing some alt leveling today but I’m just not feeling that either. Guess I’ll just get on SWTOR or play TF2 for awhile and try to keep up hope that they’ll reverse this change.

It’s hard to play GW2 when every time I check the TP I see that I have gems and it makes me a little ill to think of the money I’ve spent with the reasonable assumption that the town clothes I bought would work as-is for pretty much forever.

I was kind of surprised too, this week, when I began to notice how much I actually use the town clothes. My two or three mains tend use them quite a bit when I’m waiting for events to start etc. To only use the ones I like (hoodies etc) as a tonic is not going to be much fun at all.

hi everyone I just bought the the game with heroic pack. when I was in game with my thief I picked the wrong suit for my character I picked the heavy armor suit and when I confirmed it. and try to put it on i realized that I with my thief could not wear it. so my question to you all is can I transfer that armor to an other character or is there some way to make the suit useable for me? I hope some of you can answer my question.

Probably not the right thread but…..I don’t think those skins are soulbound. So you should be able to put it in your bank and simply take it out when you make a heavy character. If it is soulbound you can use a transmutation stone to put it on a piece of armor with a white or blue lettered name and it will be account bound and able to be transferred through your bank.

Nah , its n more like you are getting meatloaf from swanson frozen foods,
pork chop would be too good.

And not just the meat loaf because now you have to eat the squishy peas and the watery mashed potatoes that come in the “set.” although, you can just uncheck the rubbery apple cobbler.

Wow, so I read that the halloween/wintersday/pirate/cook costumes will not be refundable because they’re not becoming tonics.

The wintersday outfit I specifically bought to mix and match, I hate the full outfit.

Thanks for the bait and switch, Arenanet will never get another dime from me.

And don’t forget that some of us bought multiple sets of some of these items. I bought 4 sets of wintersday for different toons (one toon wore with a top hat, another with the ringmaster hat, another with the ear muffs and the fourth with the santa hat – none of which will now be possible).

But, since it is now going to be an account wide unlock I will have spent 4 times as many gems for the same functionality as a player who bought a single set – and, from what it sounds, still will not be able to get a refund for the 3 extra sets.

As I think about this more, here is what really really worries me.

New armor looks were already almost gem store exclusive. The only new ingame armor we have seen since launch is ascended.

Now, instead of having to make 6 pieces of armor for 3 classes and 5 races each time they come up with a new look, all they need to do is design a single look across all three classes and only two (or maybe 3) separate pieces (body, head and gloves [assuming gloves can be hidden like the helm]).

In other words, I think this has nothing to do with “benefits” to the player and is really the first step in avoiding new armor looks. They will simply make new outfits and call it good.

I doubt we will see anymore new armors or armor skins from this point forward other than maybe helms or gloves.

(oops, I see Twyll beat me to it while I was typing)

this does NOT look good for the future of this game.

I really, really hate to be so skeptical— I have been trying so hard to be optimistic about all this and say “Anet will listen to us!” and “we’ll get answers!”— but I am very much afraid you might be right. If the point of Outfits is to make it easier to make armor sets available to ALL armor classes, you’d think mixing and matching would be even more desirable for that feature— unless you want to reduce the time you spend on it so you can make more money for less effort. I hate having to type that! I don’t want to believe a thing like that! But what other explanation is there, if everything in that post by Curtis was true?

I believe this thread may now need to start including not just pictures of people mixing and matching town clothes, but people mixing and matching gem store armors (if they have them. I was planning on buying a gem store armor to use just the skirt for a character in the future… but I guess I won’t be doing that now!).

Unfortunately, I think we have an example of this in GW1. Once they came out with costumes, as I recall, we saw no new armors. Essentially, costumes just tided players over until GW2.

With no new expansions announced, a living living story that was, well, meh, and now costumes instead of armor, this does not look like a game in which the designers are planning for an extended future.

To clarify this for everyone, you will only be able to get a refund for town clothes that become endless tonics.

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/45944258-Town-Clothes

So I won’t even be able to get gems back for the individual pieces? UGH.
Just what I wanted, a bunch of utterly useless clothes that I can’t even get a refund for.

Oh, I intend to file continual daily support tickets and updates until I get my gems back, reminding them each time that while I am doing so, they are not getting any more money from me.

I will be asking for a gem refund for every single one of them. And if they don’t want to refund gems, well I can always find some other game to spend the 50-75$ a month I was spending on trans stones/mini/make over kits and town clothes. But that still leaves me with 15 shirts and shorts/pants i want to wear, that I bought to wear in different colors and combinations that I will only be able to wear as stinking undyable tonic. If you insist on “sets” then at least make the shirt/short combos into sets that I can dye. A stupid tonic i’Il have to lug around that just makes me look like everyone else is completely useless to me.

If i have to use “sets” I guess I’ll have to live with that but at least let the items I bought work with the system.

If I wind up with a bunch of stupid tonics I certainly won’t trust the gem store enough to buy any of their “new costumes” when they come out because I won’t know how long it will be before they change things again and take them away.

I didn’t buy any of the costume in GW1 – won’t break my heart if I don’t buy any more in GW2

Sorry about the mix-and-match. Converting things to be armor and combat compatible did come with some trade-offs. For the most part we tried to favor mixing with armor slots and skins (a lot more possible combinations). Hopefully we’ll see more consistently usable customization now that part of it isn’t hidden in town clothes that get turned off every fight. Outfits come as a set and equip as a set with the added benefit of not costing charges or requiring items to apply onto additional characters.

While I don’t really toy with town clothes personally, I think I speak for all players when I say we’d rather have town clothes not work in combat then the ability to mix and match removed. This ‘trade off’ of yours is a deal breaker.

You don’t. You don’t even come close to speaking for all players. In nearly every one of the Wardrobe threads I mentioned earlier, people asked for Town Clothes that work in combat. That has been one of the biggest requests since launch and one of the biggest reasons so many people gave for their lack of interest in buying Town Clothes.

Just let them put this change out now and fix it later, rather than asking for it to be scrapped now and fixed later.

Yes, they asked for town clothes that work in combat, they did not ask for town clothes that could not be mixed and matched, and in comparison, the overwhelming response of this thread shows that if they much chose between the two, they prefer the latter.

There have been dozens of threads, pages and pages long, about the desire for a wardrobe and the ability to use Town Clothes in combat. You’re comparing all that to one or two threads about the inability to Mix-and-Match and claiming to be in the majority? That’s not how it works.

It would cater to far more people to put in the current version of the Wardrobe, Outfits and all, and then fix the Mix-and-Match issue piece by piece. And that would be far better than punishing everyone by holding off on the system, to please a small minority.

I’m fine with them going ahead with the out fit sets for now as long as they let us know that mix and match will be coming and don’t load us down with those dumb tonics.

Have they specified on those hats? I think the only promo item they actually stated anything about was the dragon shirt.

Seems like it would be weird to go to all the trouble to make tonics with complete clothing sets for things like the witch hat. Unless they will make them like the halo tonic that can be used with any armor or clothing – in which case that might not be bad.

Some promotional town clothing, such as the Dragon Emblem T-shirt and retired town clothes such as the hoodies, will become endless tonics which allow you to continue to wear the clothing in non-combat situations.

Why?! “You can still mix and match single items except for the ones you may actually want to show off”

Yeah, it’s almost like being punished for having been an early adopter/supporter of the game, haha. All of the promotional items and things that were retired from the gem store – you know, the things that only folks who have been been around for a while would have – are the same ones that are getting the lousy tonic treatment. It’s… definitely not how I would choose to honor a loyal customer and fan of my business, that’s for sure.

I know it’s not personal and it probably wasn’t thought of, how that message might end up coming across, but it feels harsh, and that’s probably why so many of the responses have been tinged with anger. No one wants to feel slapped in the face, but that’s the message that’s been sent here toward early adopters, unintentionally.

My entire outfit is going to be turned into tonics

Dragon shirt? Tonic.
Gloves and boots? Part of a tonic.
Hat collection? All tonics.
Khaki shorts? Tonic.
Broom? Can’t used while transformed.

What’s the point? I’m being punished for being a loyal player, and I’ll probably never log in again after this update.

Well, not entirely
The dragon shirt and the shorts will be tonics.
I suspect all the boots will be part of costume “sets”
Some of the hats will become armor skins others will be part of a costume “set.” Same with gloves.
Broom – i don’t know but if they don’t let you use it while in shirt or short tonic form it will certainly be pretty useless.

all of which is still a pretty nasty way to treat customers

Me too, and if they keep the current ix/match functionality I am now likely to go out and buy even more town clothes to duplicate some of them. Conversely, if I am to lose that functionality it is unlikely I will buy anything else from the gem story since I will never know if I will be wasting money. I’ll just keep my refunded gems for anything I might want instead of paying actual cash to buy more gems.

Also, according to the beautiful people here who say they are playing GW2 for town clothes, please leave, Sims is ther for you, instead of inaccurate facts about how half GW2 are playing because town clothing.

I doubt anyone is playing “just for town clothes.” But town clothes were one of the primary gem store items people payed for separately from the actual price of the game itself, in many cases far more than the game cost. So we certainly deserve to be respected for the amount of money we invested in something that is about to be taken away from us.

A tonic?

And i take it, Reading Glasses can now be used as armor skin for headgear?

Because it’s a single item it will become a tonic.

Curtis can you shed some line of reason why are you guys taking this path? There was so many ways this could had been better handled, but instead you guys decided to infuriate a userbase with pointless restrictions.

If said town clothes can be used in combat, why not treat them like the helmet skins? Why all the effort to turn old skins into pointless tonics? Why are you restricting us to mix and match?

Just.

Why.

Yes, this seems like about the weirdest and most discombobulated decision I have seen ANet make in over 7 years. It seems like it would have been so easy just to put a toggle in to show town clothes visuals instead of armor and to have left everything else in the town clothes panel the same. No muss mo fuss. But instead they take a weird convoluted route guaranteed to make no one happy.

Only thing I can figure out is they don’t want any more money to come to them from the sale of town clothes.

So please, WHY WHY WHY did they head this route

makes no sense whatsoever.

If you intentionally kitten off your players you should at least give a decent reason for doing so.

I really hope this is just a misunderstanding on how the new system will be implemented. I can’t believe ArenaNet would not think that players wouldn’t want to utilize and mix and match town clothes as much as gear skins.

The only possible explanation is that the Devs don’t play the game enough to notice all the toons running round town in a variety of mix and match town clothing.

I would vote that town clothes be added to the wardrobe pool as separate skins. They are already individualized items now. A lot of people enjoy mixing and matching town clothes and also would like to wear town clothes in combat. Without knowing the technical hurdles involved, I believe that keeping them as individualized items is the best compromise to satisfy the largest quantity of players.

As someone who has paid real money for some of the town clothes, I am disappointed at this change and reduction of enjoyment in my financial investment. To me, this is poor business practice and makes me hesitant of investing financially going forward.

I have to second this. 100%

I have never before threatened to stop buying stuff from the gem store. Even when it came to the flamekissed I just quietly asked for my gems back and was satisfied to get them.

But now I have 4500 gems invested in 16 sets and pieces of town clothes I will not be able to use the way I desired to do when I bought them and have used them since purchase. I think, at this point I would have to say that I will no longer look forward to new items from the gem store and will be reluctant to purchase anything since I have no idea what will happen to it a few weeks down the line.

I bought at least 15 pieces of individual town clothes (shirts, cargo pants, riding pants, riding boots, etc) for my various characters so they could have a unique look when I desired it.

I did NOT buy them in order to get a bunch of tonics that can not be dyed and will force all my characters to look like uniformed clones.

Very bad bad idea and not a very nice way to treat players if this is what is going to happen.

I honestly don’t see why they didn’t just leave the town clothes panel as it is and add a toggle to show either town clothes or armor visually instead of this complicated system of costume and tonics – seems pretty clumsy and not very well thought out.

Or, at least, since they are going to have to add other items of clothes to the tonics anyway, why not make the “tonic” pieces into full sets like the pirate outfit and let them be dyable? (would not be really satisfied with this but it would be a heck of a lot better than having to drag a tonic around all the time)

Oh, and what about my toon that likes to go barefoot with a hoodie and cargo shorts? Is he going to be forced to wear shoes even in town?

I think I’ll start gathering all my stuff together to demand a refund when the time comes and from this point on I’m going to be very cautious about what I buy in the gem store since, apparently, what you buy isn’t what you get to keep anymore. The light flamekissed was debacle enough – this is even worse.

But I got to say, as long as everyone who participates gets the rewards I’m actually enjoying this event now. I don’t expect to win every single knight encounter but we have been winning about 2/3 of the ones I have taken part in. The Scarlet part is a bit long but I like it. Of course, I am not going for any of the achievements there since I already have my 15/15 and don’t really care about the individual ones in the Scarlet fight.

So it’s challenging enough to be enjoyable and isn’t really all that hard to coordinate between the 3 knights.

So, if the bugs are worked out I got to say I like it overall.

Black Lion Key "Farmers"..

Does not affect me at all(maybe I should have mentioned that in my post) but I would imagine it affects Anet’s bottom line. If more players use this method I’m sure some adjustments will be made. If not, somewhere down the line it will affect me because Anet will make less money. That’s not something I want to happen.

Actually, it is probably earning some extra cash for ANet.

It takes approximately 40 boxes to produce enough scraps for one ticket. That would put the new weapons at over $60 each. And older 5 ticket weapon would come it at more than $300 to purchase the keys. Very few players are going to spend that kind of money. BUT a key farmer IS likely to buy keys when he has only one or two more scraps to go to save a little time, keys he otherwise would not have bought at all. Many of these key farmers are, in fact, contributing cash to the gem store, not just farming.

I am hoping this is unintended.

Instead of accomplishing what the devs said they wanted, last night servers started to divide up between only 2 knights, kill them, and then zerg the 3rd knight if there was still time. It was better to be part of killing a knight you knew was going to go down, even when the extra players were detrimental, than to risk spending 15 minutes fighting the lesser populated knight and getting nothing for your frustration.

I also noticed that people gave up even trying to get to scarlet herself. When it was possible to zerg the knights one after another, I got to Scarlet more often than not. Now there is no point in even trying. You fight one knight to get your loot, everyone zergs to the final knight which scales it to an impossible level – so why bother planning on killing Scarlet. You will almost never get to her anyway.

At least in the Mari event, everyone got a reward as long as one lane succeeded, even if their own personal lane failed. It encouraged people to go ahead and try to fill in the lesser populated lanes. Here there is no incentive.

Tailor crafts Leatherworker insignia

It is usable by tailors – just tried it out. However, zealot recipes are not discoverable. You have to buy the recipe for the item of clothing you are making as well as the recipe for the insignia

That is weird. So it allows me to craft the insignia, and it allows me to craft the armor pieces… but once I have both, I also need a separate recipe to combine them, instead of just using the discovery panel?

That makes no sense.

I agree that it is weird and makes no sense but there are a number of recipes out there like that, usually ones that require even specific materials like watchwork sprockets.
