When I discovered a karma recipe for a wooden sword I just had to make a kid character as a joke alt who would defeat Zhaitan with his trusty wooden sword and his faithful cat, Rover, by his side: The medium karma pants dyed “old jeans” looked like levis (even have levi style pockets – sadly, unable to be seen because there are no short coats for medium armor males) and the t1 shoes dyed off-white and charcoal looked like “kicks”

Sadly,
“A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys. "

I started to like playing ranger and he was becoming my main for dungeons and farming. I thought it was weird playing a kid character so, through the magic of the make-up kit, it was time for him to grow up:

What did you get with laurels?

Lamont.5973

I took the hit and bought the mystic binding agent for science. I was too greedy hoping for a quick buck in hoping that it would allow you to transform x lodestone into y lodestone. Turns out it’s a replacement to Elonian Wine (with another meaningless feature) and as such, I’m out 10 laurels.

Oh well, I’m just gonna collect them now.

Wow, i would have thought it was a guaranteed promotion to lodestones, not a converter. Can’t you take cores and promote them to lodestones using that?

It is more then a replacement.

At the lowest lever it replaces 4 bottles of wine, then 3 at the next tier, 2 at the next and from cores to lodestones it replaces 1.

I wanted to craft the firebringer. I can get enough crystaline dust and orichalcum by farming that I won’t have to buy much of them but the molten lodestones were a pain. Buying cores and creating lodestones means that I can get a 105g weapon for around 10g.

most of the experienced groups I have been with didn’t need the way point anyway. In fact, that was why they were able to skip content in the first place. Because they knew they would not have to wp and then run back through mobs.

The ones who needed the wp are almost always those unfamiliar with the dungeon.

So….if it is Anet’s sole goal with this change to make sure inexperienced people never get to try out the dungeons, then it is working brilliantly.

if that is not their goal, well I would use the phrase, “most boneheaded change ever,” if it were not for the fact I might get an infraction.

Transmuted Stone deleting items?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Lamont.5973

Lamont.5973

When you transmute an item you are combining two items in to a single item. You get to choose which of the two “skins” you want, which of the two sets of stats you want and which of the two upgrades upgrades you want (if the items in question have any upgrades). Then, when you press “transmute” you get an item with the three options you chose and the original two items are deleted.

Losing the items is the price you pay for transmutation. If you did not want the level 16 stats then you should have chosen the level 60 ones.

No longer able to ress in combat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lamont.5973

The reason no wp res if someone was still alive worked in GW1 was that the dungeons were mostly well designed with creative ways to take on the various bosses and the ability to set different builds for different environments.

The dungeons in GW2 just seem to be the same boring slog with different graphics and high hit point bosses.

It’s going to take some major dungeon redesign to make this change palatable.

Not a bug. Because of clipping, that armor hides the shoulder armor automatically. If you look at this armor’s description there is a note about that.

There are one or two others that do that as well. At least one of the sylvari cultural armors (the one with wings I think) also hides the shoulder armor.

Option to Preview Armors Outside Our Profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lamont.5973

Lamont.5973

This change is really driving me nuts.

Along with all the reasons mentioned by others so far…

So many of the icons give no idea what the armor actually looks like. Too many armors (especially at karma vendors) use the same icon for different looks. So if I’m getting a piece to transmute to another armor class I want to be able to see what I am buying!

I see no logical sense behind this change.

If people were buying the wrong armor then, good grief, just put in a sell back option!

That would be logical.

I would like to know what the reasoning was behind not letting us preview armor we can’t wear.

It would make sense if the different professions had different models – but you have have the same look for every body and features for every profession.

A lot of times I would preview different kinds of armor because I have 2 or 3 toons that look very similar and I didnt want to have to keep switching.

Other times I previewed armor with one tune although I intended it for another BECAUSE ALL THE ICONS LOOK ALIKE and I wanted to make sure this was indeed the piece of armor I was looking for.

Frankly, i see no logical reason to have changed this. They let us buy armor for another armor class and transmute it over (which i think is really cool and appreciate very much) but now we have no idea what it looks like until we have already bought it and transmuted it or have found a webpage somewhere with the picture.

As far as I can see it only introduces inconvenience.

Not the most sensible move I ever saw.

Solutions to the mini pet issue

in Wintersday

Posted by: Lamont.5973

Lamont.5973

I 100% agree with all three suggestions.

Make the minis unbound so that those of us who have extra can give or sell to those who have none (leave the quaggan account bound if you wish – though I would have no objection to it being unbound as well).

And learn from this for future events.

People do like to gamble so I don’t object to RNG – But if you are going to have RNG in which an item is obtained by gambling, then make the chest/lottery widely available through game play ONLY. Those things sold by the gem store should never be used for such a purpose.

It is the combination of money plus RNG that makes people feel cheated and frustrated.

Be honest with people up-front and sell them honest goods – you will have a far more loyal and long lasting player base in the long run because of it.

(Just want to add:

On a practical note, making the minis account bound is shooting ones self in the foot money-wise.

Those who are willing to spend actual cash on the chance of getting the minis will stop once they have the one(s) they want. There is no reason to buy more boxes. The chance of something like a perm-hair kit is too low of an incentive to keep buying. But if people could sell unwanted minis then there is more incentive to buy a few extra boxes and take a chance on one of those extra-rare items because you know you can at least sell any extra minis you get.)

No

I am saying that when you did this they USED to be labeled “soulbound” but work like account bound. This made people think it was a bug.

As of the last update ANet changed it so that when you do this it now says plainly “account bound.”

That is a pretty clear message from ANet that not only were they aware this could be done but that they do NOT consider it a bug.

Bypassing Soulbound lock for looks

Lamont.5973

Clearing up a couple of things

1: Yes, you can transmute a soul bound item on to a non-soul bound item. The new item will be account bound and can be worn by any of the characters on your account. (it will become soulbound on use if it is a piece of armor or other such item)

2: This is not a bug. It used to be that the resulting item said “soulbound” but worked like an account bound item. In the last big update, however, it was changed so that the new item actually says “account bound” so obviously they intended this to work this way.

3: You can do this with cultural armor but the resulting account bound item can only be used by a character of the race the cultural armor was designed for.

4: If you transmute soul bound onto soul bound the result will be soulbound rather than account bound.

5: You do not have to delete the alt if you do not want to and deleting the alt will not un-soulbind the item.

I enjoyed the event very much and don’t really mind that some got great drops and I only got mediocre – I don’t like the looks of the legendaries anyway.

But, to be honest, having every player on every server have to play the event at the exact same time was just asking for trouble and was a very very very bad call.

If you can’t figure out a way to stagger servers then please don’t do any more of these. Just don’t. I would rather be able to play with my friends and not have them constantly disconnecting than have the event at all.

(OK so people could change to a second server and get a second 3hr fight with some nice loot – they can only change once ever 7 days so it’s not like they will be server hopping all day)

And nothing was asked about the ascended gear – just freeze it where it is at and NEVER NEVER NEVER add any more stat progression. It stinks.

I did not play GW2 until just after Factions came out but, as I recall, it was quite some time before everyone began congregation in a single place for a single activity. Everywhere you went you could find people grouping for missions or farming amber/jade for the high end gear.

Now in only 3 months GW2 has essentially limited the bulk of players to LA as they spam lfm fractals lvl (x).

There is now a gear grind for two new skinned back items with better stats and two rings with better stats but that add nothing to the look of the character.

It seems the exact opposite of exploring the world and grinding from looks rather than stats upon which this game was supposed to be built.

Cheaper to develop in the short term, yes. Better for the game, and, ultimately, for profit in the long run? I highly doubt it.

I liked the event itself but I have to agree that it was implemented very badly.

Having all servers participating at the exact same time pretty well guaranteed connection problems and lag as well as eliminating the ability of those in many time zones to participate.

If they can’t set up a schedule in which different servers host the event at time slots most convenient for the major time zones then, as much as I enjoyed the actual event, I would rather not have the events at all.

the hilarious thing is after all these ascended items are revealed, theres NOTHING special about them at all. Which puts GW2 on the category of gear grind games at the very lowest quality too. Why NOT play wow, the gear grind actually has QUALITY.

Yeah. I found that ironic also.

I think this wound up being a way they could put in another tier without actually doing much that would cost them money. No need to design new looking gear – just add stats to rings (which doesn’t require a game model). The only actually new model I saw was the quiver. It would have been far closer to their stated design and much more appreciated by players if they had paid the salaries to have their art department design new cool looking armor and weapons (goodness knows we’ve been asking for some variety in the types of armor) with the same stats as exotic as the tier between exotic and legendary.

Now that I would have liked.

but that would have taken time and cash investment.

Honestly just debating if I want to log on this afternoon or not for the lost shores kick off.

I was looking forward to it when they first announced it. Had all my exotic gear on my main and was building on a second. Also starting to look at collecting stuff for a legendary some time way way in the future and looking forward to doing it.

A new dungeon sounded like a good idea, especially one that got harder the further you went but gave decent rewards for lower levels too.

Invited a friend for the free trial weekend with the intention of playing together and introducing him to the game.

And I will say I do like some of the bug fixes and the upped rewards for bosses in dungeons and was pleased with the progression it would allow my to gradually outfit all my toons with exotic gear.

But as of this afternoon, everyone will be wanting to do the new dungeon and it is going to require the new gear to get in there with the promise of even more higher stat gear late – plus legendaries to be buffed.

So what promised to be a fun afternoon is now a rat race to get new gear to participate in content and my gradual saving for my legendary now becomes something that feels like it “has to be done.”

Meh – this is exactly the kind of game I don’t want, a game where you accomplish achievements only to have more “progressive” achievements (and in the form of rings etc at the moment, which have absolutely no visible effect and value ONLY in stats) thrust on you rather than choosing multiple paths to personal satisfaction (ie – enjoying working for looks instead of slaving for stats)

Mark Twain: “Work consists of whatever a body is OBLIGED to do, and that Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do.”

When play starts to feel like work it’s time to give it a rest.

So, I’m thinking I’ll go watch a video this afternoon and check in tomorrow to see how things are.

Just read through the article linked from the game log-in. My first thought – No, ANet, No!

The thing about infusion in GW1 was that it wasn’t “progression.” You could get it as part of the story line. Even if you were playing WiK, it wasn’t too hard to run and get your armor infused. Plus, if you happened to forget, the story line still wasn’t impossible. I had at least one character that finished the Battle for LA without a single piece of infused armor.

But now, in GW2 we have to use the mystic forge to get this gear? And its rarity is somewhere between exotic and legendary? Gah! That stupid forge has dropped only 1 exotic for me out of 50 lvl 75 and above rares I put into it. Somehow I am supposed to get a full set of gear that is rarer than that in order to play new content adequately?

Blech – just blech

Not to mention the fact that, if it has better stats than exotic, eventually we will be forced to get it to play even standard content if we are to feel like we are really contributing to the team and not just tagging along.

No! No! No! No! and No!

This is not progression – is just a rat wheel.

Oh wow I really hope they do NOT do this.

the progression is already obvious – slightly better stats on gear to help with a slightly harder dungeon. But now that stats are better more difficult content will be required on a broader basis to keep the game interesting. But then even better gear will have to be given – followed by even more difficult content.

And BAM – gear grind wars

NO ! Just NO!

If that starts happening I’m out.

You can not access it from ANet without and account (or I assume, an official invite for the weekend)

I can’t copy it and snail male it to him in time to do any good for the coming weekend

His email provider will not allow an .exe as an attachment

And I certainly don’t want to direct him to a 3rd party site to get the .exe

So, I’m just reminding ANet that the people we invite to this special weekend need that access early enough to make it workable.

So, next weekend we are able to invite a friend to try out the game free for a couple of days.

But, the dat file is getting near 17 Gb in size which, on some internet connections, may take a great deal of time to download. So….if the client and dat file are not available for download ahead of time our friends are going to waste most of the available play time downloading the dat.

I assume you will have some way for them to begin downloading that information AHEAD of time?

The person I would like to invite will need this info within the next couple of days if he is to be prepared. Otherwise there is no point in inviting him.

Three problems with these mad king chests

1: Why do these skins need to be rare? We already have the crafted weapons which will be rare. Did we really need a second set of rare weapons? There really was no point in making them “rare” other than to get people to buy the keys.

2: They are solving the wrong problem. The problem was that keys are too expensive to have to use in gambling for an ultra rare skin so people don’t waste money buying them to open the black lion chests. Instead of providing a means for us to get rid of the unopened chests, they provided a means to eliminate the actually useful items which come from the chest (the boosts). The large number of unopened chests are still sitting in our inventories.

3: The solution only reduces the cost of the keys by a very small amount. Now, instead of one key per chest its 2 keys for every three chests – this does not encourage anyone to go buy keys simply to have a second chance every other time (especially when doing so actually removes a useful item).

Wrong problem – wrong solution.

A 4th observation. Unlike the polar bear incident in GW1 where an ultra rare mini was introduced for free and the complaint was only about rarity – this is essentially a real money deal. The ultimate goal for ANet if they want to keep customers coming back to the gem store is to provide a pleasant experience. No – this does not mean every single chest has to have a skin in it. But it does mean there is reasonable balance that will make customers feel good about the transaction and willing to come back again. To provide an unpleasant experience is to lose customers and, therefore lose money.

While the rest of the halloween update was enjoyable, this one was unpleasant enough that I elected not to buy enough keys to open anywhere near all my chest and decided I didn’t really want to spend money on town clothes either – a purchase I would normally have made just to support ANet even though I had not intention of actually wearing them for more than a couple of minutes (I never spend enough time in town to bother). Same for minis. I normally would have purchased the holiday minis even though they sit in my inventory and are never used. But with the bad taste of BLCs I had to ask myself if I really wanted to spend yet more money for items that will never get used. The answer is no.

Seriously?

“You are not guaranteed to receive a rare item after opening a Black Lion Chest. You have a chance to get a unique/rare item. Some people are luckier than others. The Halloween skins are tradeable, so if you aren’t able to get them in a Black Lion Chest, you can obtain them on the Trading Post.”

Seriously? This is ANet’s answer for a crap drop rate? No one is complaining that we don’t get a rare skin from every single chest – we are complaining about the drop rate for something that costs around a buck fifty to even try doing.

I have 140 of these things sitting in inventory because the drop rate for keys is so abysmal I can’t do anything with them and I’m not about to spend 200 dollars opening them with a drop rate like this.

Frankly, I’m deleting them and all future chests I get to save inventory space.
