There is no drama in TC. No WvW guild is going anywhere. There were some minor disagreements earlier but everything has been worked out and is looking positive going into next week. We are actually getting a few guilds in and not losing any.
It was just slightly exaggerated.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
[FIST] is a medium sized oceanic guild that brings very needed coverage for our oceanic. They are not as big as Pink or * shudder * some of those BG oceanic guilds but at this point us TC-ers treat every single addition to our oceanic as Royalty.
KH is a very interesting addition; they are as big as Pink and they are a pacific guild. Which means as our NA prime-time is dying down, these guys will take over and pass it over to our Euro’s. They will do a good job in bridging the gap between our NA and EU.
At the same note, we are still looking for one more guild (max two) to join us for our Oceanic timeslot (Euro guilds welcome as well). If you are an oceanic or euro guild looking for a challenge then do whisper me in-game/on here or you can whisper / message the thread starter as well.

To be honest I find the current Tier system to be badly made. Only 3 per tier? That pretty much sucks, as it’s very easy to get thrown down a tier or up one. I’d prefer if it was 6 servers per tier, that way nobody’s going to get kicked out of their current tier unless things really don’t go their way. It also randomizes who you fight for the weeks, so you don’t have constant fights weeks in a row.
For example, if CD, DB, FA, Mag, Kain, and TC were all in a tier, you could have CD v Mag v TC one week, and CD v DB v TC another week. By randomizing it every week and keeping the tiers set up a way, everybody has somebody to fight, and it makes things more interesting overall, instead of just one server dominating top place every time.
I actually love that suggestion. That would make WvWvW much more interesting.

Tarnished ‘Zombie’ Coast
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Oceanic, Asian and Euro Guilds: Tarnished Coast Wants You!
With the end of free transfers it’s time to bust a decision on your GW2 future.
What do you want for the future of your game and for your guild?
- Stability? Our player-base is possibly the most stable of ANY server. Players love it here – few players come to TC and want to leave.
- A friendly playing environment? Absolutely! We don’t tolerate trolls, sledgers and abuse on WvWvW. When you play on our server the player base know that everyone is there to have fun and enjoy the game.
- A decently competitive playing environment? We are currently in T2 and have got here through our players tenacity and ability to learn and play together. We have not got here through big transfers.
- Organization? We have a 10000 slot mumble with admin rights and private space for each individual guild. We also have regular guild meetings due to an extremely stable guild alliance that is very productive.
Our tenacity and never say die attitude are not empty promises. We have earned such a reputation through our opponents.
- We were voted at the end of 2012 by our opponents as the most respectable/enjoyable/tenacious server to play against. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/WvWy-s-2012-who-was-your-favorite-opponent-in-2012/page/4
- Blackgate veterans coined the term ‘Zombie Coast’ for our WvWvW population because of our ability to consistently keep fighting against superior numbers.
- Respected guilds from SoR like Choo and from BG like HB have highlighted the skill level of some of our WvW guilds on a regular basis and emphasized on the great skirmishes.
But the server is always full!!!?
Our whole server population is working towards accommodating guilds to transfer.
- We will be doing regular blackouts (mass logouts) twice a day up till the 28th to accommodate guilds being able to get all their members in. On top of that we will consistently update possible interested parties on times when the server is not full. http://tcgw2.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=323 (Server Blackout Thread).
- Are you sick of really long wait times to get into WvWvW? You wont have that problem on TC except at the reset. If you’re on Oceanic or Asian or Euro timezones, you can get home from work, log on and get in straight away.
- Are you tired of running around in a massive zerg and not really learning advanced game play? Maybe you’d like to slap on your commander tag and see what it’s like but don’t have the opportunity on your server? Well TC is the place for you!
- On TC learning new aspects about game tactics and game physics is a constant.
If you are a guild who is looking for the ‘next’ Tier 2 server whether it be Kaineng or Magumma or FA or DB; Please consider for a second to join a server that is already in Tier 2 and continue to help establish them as a strong force in Tier 2.
So if you play in GMT time zone form GMT 0 – GMT 14 and are looking for a new home you should seriously consider Tarnished Coast!
If you think the Tarnished Coast might be the place for you whisper me or mail me in game.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Bump for the few guilds interested.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
There are no major issues happening in TC currently. There is no mass exodus/influx of guilds. This is just being blown out of proportion. TC is still the same server it was a week ago and before that a month ago.
A server that has been rising through the ranks steadily and improving day by day, week by week with our core population. We have not got to where we are due to population booms. We are going to continue doing what we do.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Another thing that I read that the CD guys are doing is a mass-logout. If your guild wants to transfer in during a certain time we can coordinate with the other large guilds and do a mass log-out and hopefully allow you guys to join. We can coordinate this over VOIP.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
I personally believe that when a commander starts thinking that he knows everything; that is when he/she gets left behind. This thirst for knowledge by finding new creative strategies (wait for culling to disappear and everyone will need to find new strategies) or spec groups or in-combat tactics is what consistently increases the meta-evolution of this game. People don’t realize that this game is still fairly new and we are only scratching the surface of the meta-game.
3. Channels of Communication
All the commanders in the main WvW guilds get along. We have open channels of communication and truly believe in multi-guild coordination. There is no hierarchy of ego’s between us. We respect those that are more experienced and give credit where its due but it’s far from a dictatorship or a democracy. I would say it’s more along the lines of a ‘controlled democracy’. Any guild that decides to move here will have a voice at the table and be welcomed with open arms into the War Council (Commanders). They will have an equal say on the overall planning and strategic discussion. We believe in inclusivity from the get-go.
4. Veteran Oceanic’s
Our server is a NA-heavy server. This does not mean that we are completely full in NA time, in fact other than TCBL and EB there are no queues in other maps during NA primetime. When the guilds have decided to make a coordinated push on an enemy borderland a queue might pop up but the longest that has been is 15 to 30 minutes. Even so this still results in only having 2/4 maps at queue.
Our oceanics are a rag-tag bunch of hardened veterans. I play during oceanic and euro as well. We have fought with inferior numbers against tremendous oceanic powerhouses; we fought against Crystal Desert multiple times, we fought against Sea of Sorrow and Blackgate when they were on the rise and Blackgate again when they were back at Tier 2 and heavily increasing their oceanic presence and we have held our own. I would go so far on a limb and say that our oceanic although lacking in number consist of far more experienced and less-mistake prone players than our NA crew. Although a lot of our NA do consistently pull all nighters to keep us competitive #nolife.
5. Long Term Vision
This is what separates us from the other bandwagon servers. We have stability because the backbone of our WvW is the militia/pugs. We have many veterans scattered among various small guilds. This backbone will always exist. TC will always be the unofficial RP server therefore population of militia/pugs will never be an issue. We are not solely dependent on our large WvW guilds so even if they decide to transfer over there won’t be a plummet in tiers and performance. The stability will always be there. We want to encourage more WvW focused guilds to join us in order to make a push to top Tier 2 and eventually be competitive in Tier 1. None of the things that happened to HoD and ET will EVER happen to TC. I know everyone believes that their server has server pride and that is also the case with TC; there is a loyalty to the server that is almost cult-like.
In conclusion, I really hope that your guild considers Tarnished Coast as a possible destination to call their home. Do look past the myth of it being an RP server. I encourage any of you to contact me either on these forums or email (aequitasesport@gmail.com) for further inquiries. I encourage guild commanders to come into mumble with us and watch us operate.
Sincerely,
Theongreyjoy
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Why don’t you guys come to Tarnished Coast? We could use your numbers more than CD and FA (Look at SoR’s transfers).
I come here as a representative of Tarnished Coast wanting to state a proposal to any guilds that are still undecided about moving to choose Tarnished Coast as your future home. In the following paragraphs I hope to put forth convincing arguments to help you decide in favor of a move to Tarnished Coast.
1. Community
The first point I want to reiterate is that of our community. Everyone knows that TC is the unofficial RP server which in essence brings a lot of maturity and limits keyboard warriors and trolls. The community has been consistently praised for our ‘never say die’ attitude and our great representation of ourselves on any public forums.
The myth about RP servers not being capable in PVP is just that a myth. In WoW many of the best arena players and teams came from RP servers. There is no instances in WvW where people are just RP-ing and not fighting for the coast. On the other hand the RP-ers who PVP bring a really unique dimension to the server, there is constant entertainment where they can take a small incident and through their RP are able to make it one morale-boosting hilarious scenario. The other advantage of being the unofficial RP server is that the militia are fine with doing the ‘boring’ jobs, the militia on our server are more than happy to sentry camps and towers, tick siege and keep the communication channels going with the guild commanders and leaders as they have something to do while escorting yaks or being a sentry; which is to RP.
2. Organization
- We have a 10000 slot mumble; You heard it right its 10000 slots, not kidding. Recently acquired thanks to the great guys at DIS in an attempt to make us more organized and improve in Tier 2. Not only that but it is a public VOIP for everyone and no single guild is in charge of it. Each guild has their own PRIVATE SPACE in the mumble; private channels and sub-channels. They have implemented ‘linking’ to other channels very effectively as well. This means multiple channels of communication and coordination with various guilds as well as our militia who frequently utilize VOIP.
For e.g. We are now starting to utilize the mumble to effectively coordinate between the zergmanders and the spec groups. I am a commander of TSL and I am in charge of leading the militia as well as working with another small guild or two who are part of my main zerg. At the same time I have setup a bind that is linking me to my havoc squad/hammer squad/yak sniping squad that are sitting in my private guild channel. They are my eyes and ears and are consistently working with me while I continue to coordinate the militia and other guildies in the main borderland or EB channel.
- Great Community Website; We have a great community website www.tcgw2.com; that we are consistently trying to increase in activity. It has a private War Council for in-depth strategic and tactical discussion along with a place for our militia to come and try to get more involved.
- Tomes of Material & Guides; We as a community truly believe that we are only as strong as our weakest player. This is why we go out of our way to produce materials and guides ranging from Basic Introductions to Advanced Strategies. We try to educate the masses as best as we can. In-fact some of us take it so seriously that we actually have a comprehensive WvW ‘Tome’ encompassing a total of 88 pages written by yours truly; this was created by working with all the respectable & experienced commanders on our server. A preview of this guide is posted below.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
There is a good group of us in Tarnished Coast.
Why don’t you guys move from SBI to TC?
[VoTF] www.votf.net
This is an amazing server even weeks since we played them last, I have immense respect for these guys (TC player here).
A server that combined Yaks and Toasters would be heaven on earth. Unfortunately both servers have an almost cult-like devotion to their server and this would never happen but one can always dream.
I hope you guys get more WvW guilds to transfer over to you guys and climb back up the tiers so we can fight you guys again.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Do not discount TC as only a RP server. I’ve been facing them for a couple of weeks now, and they put up a solid fight in WvW. They’re competitive, and capable as a server, and it has truly been fun facing them.
Consider them, even if RP isn’t your thing.
Really appreciate the positives from such a respected guild like Choo. We still need oceanics!
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Our oceanic consists of night shifts of some of our major guilds (Pink ,TV and TSL) and a ragtag bunch of hardened veterans. These people (including me) have fought through ridiculous numbers outnumbered and survived day in and day out; from the likes of Crystal Desert multiple times, to BG’s terrible oceanic’s recently as well as SoS / BG and SoR when they were on the rise.
I would go on a limb and say that our oceanics although fewer in number are actually a more skilled and organized bunch than our NA counterparts :P
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Would love to have a few servers with a strong oceanic presence and never say die attitude (Hint: CD&IoJ) to consider TC as a destination.
TC has a plan for long term stability, an anti bandwagon collapse plan if you will. Do join a determined, hard-working, mature and loveable WvWvW community.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
On most days you can expect only TCBL and EB to have a queue. We never have four map queues other than on reset nights.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
This was a lot of fun, I was here from the beginning and did something like around 50 duels.
I was the TC Memser that people kept adding to party and asking about my build.
Props to the guild EA from Blackgate, every duel I fought with those guys was tough specially that elementalist that I think I fought around 8 times. (Helped me in figuring out D/D Elementalists more )
That twilight warrior from kitten guild I found a bunch of times, I think the record was something like 3-5 to him. He kept wanting to duel me until he beat me haha.

I am from TC and I think its a perfectly legit tactic for tier 1 / tier 2. Yes its taking advantage of the AOE mechanic in the game but its not an exploit. They are showcasing superior organization and skill by being able to keep stacked, execute focus fire and keep defensive boons active.
There are lots of ways to counter it. We just do not have enough large WvWvW guilds to execute them. Portal bomb behind them while a small party timewarp builds a balista in front. After portal bombing use hammer warriors, guardians, mesmer pulls to scatter their group. The stack should be non-existent at that time.
TC needs to get better at setting up siege during large scale combat in open fields.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
I was in charge of a group of 5-6 of us that was able to upgrade the hills keep at BGBL to waypoint status and get lots of siege up in the process as well. This was me anticipating a hit on the keep.

This is not a complaint by any means as a 20 or 30 man group would definitely have been repelled from our hills but I think I lost count the number of BG that went for the hills keep. It was INSANE, biggest numbers I have fought against.
Interesting Cata spot on the west inner wall as well, didnt know one could build up there. Whoever was leading you guys was also doing a great job of constantly keeping us on our toes, you threw a lot of things at us that we were able to counter until someone else got on my treb and I could not take out those final catas covered by the supply depot. -_-
But even if we repelled you at that cycle (tick), there was no hope of us holding out through another assault with supply practically 0 and around 10-15 guys in the keep. You guys know how to roll out in style to take a waypointed keep thats for sure…superior siege everywhere.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Bumping this post, we need more people to compete in Tier 2 during oceanic timezone.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
I was going to vote for Yaks Best as I have a lot of respect for them when we were fighting them in Tier 3 (TC here) but I am surprised by the lack of love given to Blackgate.
My vote goes to Blackgate simply because when they were on the rise we TC learnt a LOT from them and even these past week and a half are still learning. Guilds like HB and ICOA are amazing to fight against.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
TC and SOR during early oceanic tend to do an alright job and not attacking each other in BGBL, many times I have seen us take our respective sides of the map. But when the main BG oceanic prime-time hits we need to go one step ahead to really stay on the map.
As soon as they break outer of Bay or Hills, I think its the other servers responsibility to flank the BG zerg to help maintain our respective keeps. I tried to lead TC to do this several times when BG was breaching outer bay. I urge SoR to do the same when they breach outer hills.
Is it double teaming? Yes.
With our numbers combined do we still match up to the BG Oceanic numbers, probably just about.
Its a necessary evil because neither server can hold BG’s Oceanic (Thai and ND) undivided attention during those times, we just got to help each other keep a foothold on the map instead of seeing swords at hills outer and thinking “Yay BG zerg at Hills lets go take the NE tower (opportunist)” Think long term guys.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
I have been on TC since launch and have seen the community (in WvWvW evolve) through a fairly chaotic initial weeks to rapid growth to complete annihilation at the hands of BG and SoR when we first met them. Since then though, the trajectory of the server at a strategic and an organizational level has been astounding. Every week it seems that our guilds are getting better at class composition parties, focus firing, hitting multiple targets, smart flanking and also multi-guild coordination.
Best of all 90% of our commanders know what they are doing and are excellent with the map chat and say chat, mistakes are not raged at, instead people are just told what to do next time. Commanders take time out to teach new WvWvWers tutorials on Siege placement, defense, tactics etc.
I am one of the people who frequently plays at the Oceanic Timezone and I can tell you that even though we lack in numbers the skill level of the players under great commanders like Deyja and Jalan Durant is amazing. In my opinion, the things the oceanic group is able to pull off sometimes is better than our prime time. If we could get some more skilled players to buffer this period we could really be a force in Tier 2.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
@Elite Slasher – Your a commander, act like one. WTF is with that book of a post you wrote.
@Lanimal (for why TC is better) – Overall you are right. FA has become basically a wasteland of tactics and zerging. We act more like a pack of dogs then a army in general. That being said I have seen TC do some very stupid very horrible things (on a large scale), so your not that amazing yet. Winning so many weeks in a row certianly helps TC in moral/numbers and attracting talent.
From what I am seeing out of FA I have to say the server seems to be dieing. More and more people are no longer showing up, our tactics basically drop a level every week. 50% of the people seem to be interested in open world 5v5 or similar pvp matches and no objectives whatsoever, the other 50% are just looking to zerg something, anything. We almost never pick up our downed players. We have gotten even worse about defending/upgrading. Or when we do defend, we tend to defend the worst defensible keeps/towers. We take objectives for no strategic purpose whatsoever, and never stick around to hold them. We don’t seem to know what a treb is. We have basically no communication whatsoever and our major guilds are so insular they almost cant work with other people. We even have started auto attacking gates on large scale again. We need to go back to basics and start over again because we are not going in the right direction FA.
This is what I as a TC player observe defending against FA. I think people took my post the wrong way, I never stated that all those strategies are unique to TC alone, of course they are not. Its just that our execution and consistency of those said strategies happens outside of just ‘WvWvW guilds’, it happens with our organized pugs and militia groups. There are often many active group composed parties (Thieves + Mesmers for e.g.) running that consist of members of various guilds (PVE and WvWvW).
That is the main difference, we spend an often lot of time not being exclusionary and acting elite within the various top WvWvW guilds instead we try to consistently up the knowledge of our pugs, everything new we learn we dont keep it as a ‘guild secret’ we share it with other guilds and even pugs. In defense, a knowledgeable group of 10-15 that knows how to deal with nearly every single scenario can do a lot against a zerg.
Before logging off, I will grab someone I know or someone new and pass on the scenarios to him, “if they try to cata wall, this is how you mortar it, if they try to treb from Stargrove you can counter them with this mortar or this treb (keep it active), make sure to keep these three pieces of siege active at the very least etc…”, this person can be a guildie, a regular or a pug that I barely know, as long as hes willing to take up the task, I trust him to do it.
Do we make mistakes? All the time. I get very peeved about losing keeps with kittenty defense. The day when CD and FA took all our borderlands we could have stopped it. Someone started the fortification upgrade before Cannons and Mortars so we lost hills because every educated player knows that mortars > fortification for defense. Now we make sure that we tell everyone about our upgrading order, inform the pugs so that doesn’t happen again.
At the end of the day if a group of four can build a regular ram and take out reinforced gates at outer bay and hills without having any response from FA because they are ‘dealing’ with the breakout event just shows to me how slow in responding their defense is. We were spotted when the gate was 50% as well, few people came trickling in but none were smart enough to just go to the inner mortar and 1 hit our ram let alone build a cata or AC instead they just wanted to fight us 4v4 and die. This shows an uneducated militia/pug force, you guys need to take more responsibility in helping your pugs than acting elitist against them.
On the same topic, I have rarely rarely seen a party of 4 or 5 from FA being able to ninja a Tower or Keep out in the TCBL without us responding in time, the few times I have seen it, it was done by the guys from ULTD who are probably the only guild in FA I respect in tactics, execution, individual skill and overall strategy. Oh and TSI is pretty decent as well.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
The reason TC is better than FA or CD is not simply down to numbers. In our Oceanic we are able to consistently make sure that we do not lose more than one keep whilst being outmanned on both sides of the map. We make CD work really hard to take Bay as well (Most of the time) and CD can vouch for our SunnyHill defense. The same issue occurs during FA or CD’s off-peak hours and they are unable to hold any of the keeps (maybe except garrison sometimes in CDBL).
Why is this? Because we share knowledge consistently between our pugs and guilds.
- Lots of regular WvWvWers and established commanders give Siege placement lessons in BL and EB to the pugs.
- We map out portal-ing waypoints, smart portaling tactics onto JPGS and give to all known mesmers for our golems and for our flanks.
- We know how to keep our thieves scouting smartly and contesting waypoints smartly.
- We have in-depth defense guides on each tower and keep written up and shared between the common guilds.
- We consistently urge people to not run solo and always party up as soon as they join BL, so in case we need a team to keep north supply camps flipped (during defense), or we need a team to flank into vale and destroy their trebs, or we need a balista team to flank and take out their siege → we dont have to ask people to party up and do it.
- We don’t do silly guild claiming of keeps and key towers and we make sure the guilds that claim it can activate multiple buffs around the clock.
- We understand micro-strategy MUCH better than you guys. In defense mode we don’t panic, we know how to use the repel timer to portal bomb you guys (timed well to respawn), we understand how to counter Golem rushes (Mortars and Balistas) and focus on that than our gate defense, we understand how to consistently adapt to superior number and superior siege during our oceanic time (look at Sunnyhill).
- Most commanders know each other and regular WvWvW veterans so information is consistently passed and our response jumping from BL to BL is extremely quick. We will abandon Inner SM Siege if it means keeping out borderland green.
And I think the biggest difference between FA and TC is that we understand prioritization of targets on defense and offense better than you guys. I don’t know how many times I see your commanders consistently moving from Lake to Briar or Briar to Lake and it makes me lol knowing you just made our defense easier.
There are many many other reasons that can be listed but these should be enough.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
FA is a good server (except for the people who consistently whine about 60 man zergs).
If you go over to FA please teach them how to use mortars to defend keeps against golems.

Game of Throes 2 By Elite Slasher
After a little critical thinking and going through everything whats going on lately here is an update. TC have another server wide meeting of guilds and commanders and decide to push to tier 2 at all cost because FA/CD are are just too weak for them.
They know same tactic dolyak walk and cruel FA ruining it wont work anymore because Purple Dragons have not been heard of again on FA (coincidence…maybe). So here is a new plan TC knows how to hack better than other server and they need numbers. So they get all purple dragons back to TC for reinforcements. Today is the day to push everyone hard. TC thinks that all FA are Pving and they will see no resistance at taking everything on all maps again. So here is the plan builds a lot and lot of golems in EB (40 to be specific) there is even a video proof of it. And than push FA really really hard and catch them off guard because TC already have a lot of land in CD. The time for war comes. The major invasion begins. TC hits FA hard and fast. They got for Dreaming Bay. TC have to get it at all cost while its being upgraded and out of supply for defenders to defend. They rush the South gate and start taking it down fast. Oh what is that defenders actually shows up to defend what sorcery is that. TC starts panicking but they have to keep pushing because they outnumber defenders 3 to 1 and defenders cant build any siege. The first gate is down and TC is in they rush second gate. But wait a second there is some siege on inner south gate. After hitting on a wall for a while and almost wiping they know they have to change tactic. So they hide in water and swim to other side north gate. They have to stop defenders from coming in. They make a supply run fully resupply and rush north inner gate. FA defenders are desperate because even more TC shows and and most FA defenders gave up or died. TC mercilessly takes down gate and rush to lord room. Wipe all 10 defenders inside with around 30+ people. Then they build 3 rams in lords room as a token of accomplishment (probably to show that they outnumbered FA 3 to 1) . How siege on Hills in FA failed I am not going to talk about(boring). During all this happening FA gets informed that they are about to loose Overlook in EB to Golems. A few defenders show up but they cant make it. It only takes about 30 seconds more or less for 40 Golems to take both gates. So as soon as FA shows up Keep is lost. But FA spirit is not broken yet and they keep fighting really hard. So TC decides to use their brains to come up with another master plan. This will work send a few of our hackers who usually flip SMC for us to FA Server and manipulate FA into hacking server to get more people from TC again to fight hackers this week and also turn CD against FA also. With big grins they already started flooding forums how hackers are horrible and how FA keeping flipping TC and CD towers and keeps. The try to make an alliance by organizing a double team on FA. So TC just asked CD commander to whisper them for swift action against FA need to remove hackers from all borderlands. If it takes a manipulated dolyak peace walk, manipulated hackers and 40+ Golems for TC to get to tier 2 so be it. Also how did it happen that when attacked both keeps had an upgrade going and were out of supply I am not sure. But i think a mass supply removal by a lot of people right before attack (maybe another coincidence). Oh I am surprised I have not seen a lot of comments lately how FA defense is terrible and and how awesome TC and everything about it is. Have not seen many screenshots lately either.
To be continued…Hope to see more good fighting! Bring on the fun!
Asking Anet to read this story and verify all information here please. Thanks you.
Paranoid much? We don’t need to manipulate you guys to beat you, we just use good scouts and keep an eye on the supply?
[VoTF] www.votf.net
I find it funny that its mostly FA chest-thumping about pushing us to spawn when all they are good at is harassing supply camps and really poorly executed sieges.
Stop riding on CD’s coattails. Credit where credit is due, losing TCBL today was mostly because of CD’s strategies and flexibility. FA was just there for the ride.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Well played on FA and CD fielding such good forces and well executed sieges at this time on TCBL however we made a lot of costly errors on the lead up to this fight that cost us a lot more than we did.
Just a hindsight view on why we lost things when we could have resisted for longer.
1. Shadaran Hills – Someone started fortification upgrade before cannons and mortars, which would have been complete by the time FA showed up at hills, the mortars would have nullified their Catas and Trebs.
2. Bay Keep – This one was going to be lost either way but we could have held on longer if people who know how to counter-treb were allowed to operate our treb on inner supply roof rather than one persistent player who kept missing.
3. Sunny Hill – When we had slightly superior numbers, players refused to gather and portal bomb or rush out the gate allowing us to possibly wipe the CD zerg (that was split, ESF guild was somewhere else), people just not listening.
4. TC Water Gate – Called out that FA had suddenly gone very quiet after they got initially repelled at Cragtop. I actually said “they are probably going to golem rush water gate, its too quiet”. No one watched it :/, a golem rush is very easy to nullify (wreck in a few minutes) @ water gate if we had eyes on it.
Its good, we needed a wake up call, we have been getting complacent with our slightly ‘dominant’ position in Tier 2 the past few weeks, hopefully this will make us play better and not make such mistakes again. I preferred today to the past three weeks because It actually allowed us to notice our weaknesses. I knew even when we were winning that we were doing quite a few things poorly compared to Tier 2 but since we were winning no one really wanted to work on it. Now hopefully that is not the case.

I am honestly starting to think this whole GODS vs BLNT drama is all a farce to hurt TC xD.
Seriously the BLNT group that likes to pop onto borderlands with 5 tags on, barely talk to commanders from other guilds, make quite idiotic strategic calls and then pretend they knew what they were doing all along…
Get your act together. Also don’t put on your icon and just run around with another commander without doing anything productive to the overall strategy.
I mean asking people to run ‘imaginary upgrades’ on a fully upgraded SM while we are being Sieged, genius. Just one of many instances.

Just wanted to say that was an epic 3 way fight in the EB JP just now. Who thought JP would be as fought over as Towers..xD

Yes, most competitive FPS games are team-based, especially now. However an individual can still pull off a monumental win on his own in dire situations. When I was younger I heavily, and I mean heavily, competed in Q2 and UT lan tourney’s in the area and in online clan wars (also the original tribes. SHAZBOT! God I miss tribes). While it was a team match there were a number of times when due to a series of events that I, or someone else might be the only teammate left on the field vs 3-5+ and due to the nature of the gameplay was actually capable of coming back, eliminating the other team and stealing the round win.
Ah that makes some sense you come from the old school 1v1 FPS scene, its a shame that they are no longer serious contenders in most tournaments. I have had the same experience with Counter-Strike (All titles), been in sponsored teams, flown to LAN’s in other countries all over the world, played at an extremely high level. Yes individual brilliance gets you a round win here and there but you have to realize that at LANs at the very highest level, aim is only 20% of the game, 50 % is team chemistry, reading skills and communication the rest is preparation/strategy. That person was able to do a 1v3 because of the information his teammate fed him or because of the information his teammates have layered onto the enemies in previous rounds (it adds up).
TC was in a similar situation a month or two ago regarding population and facing the enemy zergs of SoR and BG. I think it really at the end depends on the attitude. Yes, it sucks losing a fully upgraded keep that you upgraded yourself but its up to you to be proactive about it. For e.g. If I am about to log off and none of my guildies are online, I will ask one of the regular WvWvWers who I know to take over, keep defensive siege active and I will tell him to pass that responsibility to someone else when he logs out. I explain to him where the siege is placed in detail “This cata is for enemy cata strategy, this mortar to take out their cata’s on the wall etc, there is a treb on the vista for Stargrove, keep that active” In doing so not only am I maybe giving him some knowledge he might not be aware of and he/she is learning in the process but also making sure that the keep is held that little bit longer, if it goes through a few cycles of responsibility sharing then eventually when I come back online the enemy will probably have it, but it won’t be fully upgraded, so I can take it again and start the same cycle all over again.
The importance of playing with inferior numbers is KNOWING when to disengage. Yes you built a ram and the gate is at 50% but the communication from the other side is telling you that you will get wiped if you stay there, abandon the ram, abandon the siege, keep your group together and play the timer to grab some more supply camps. Come back and start again. A lot of people get tunelvisioned ‘oh gate is at 50%, lets defend this till we die, no matter the enemy numbers’…they proceed to get portal bombed or zerg wiped.

with my mentality, no. There’s one winner, and two losers.
Same with WvWvW.
TLDR:
- I agree with you in spirit, and I have the same mentality when it comes to winners and losers. HOWEVER this is a “team based game”. I, alone, cannot assure a victory for my server/team. You can’t either. Regardless of how well a person plays in the end what determines whether they have won or lost in wuvwuv is all about population size, coverage and then strategy/tactics a little further behind that, then player skill far down the road. *
This prevents me from taking w3 seriously at all as a competition. It’s actually the same thing that prevents me from enjoying the format or class balance for s/tpvp as well. If I, no matter how well I play, cannot determine the outcome of the match as I could in an FPS for instance then I cannot invest my competitive energy fully into the game at all. Doesn’t mean I can’t have fun with it, I just can’t bring myself to care. Because if I care and bust my kitten I end up with scenarios like the early matches where I drop a ton of currency and time on siege/upgrades during my prime time (NA west coast night) only to find it zerged over and wasted. And then the rage comes.
Which would be ok, if I could aim the rage at myself as a drive to improve my game. However the truth is that there is nothing I can do to ensure the win, so the rage gets directed at “everyone else” for not doing their job. And that kind of rage is bad, and not worth having.
I disagree. Which FPS are you talking about that is not a team game in the competitive circuit? In fact nearly any game that has some level of competitive spirit (or even an all out e-sport) tends to be team orientated with the exception of SC2 (Look at LoL, Dota2, CSGO). Also one thing is in common with all competitive games is that one of the foundations of success in all of them is knowledge, the gathering, learning and creation of it. Yes, Population Size and Coverage matters but not as much as Strategy/Tactics and even more so good communication.
I take time out and try to give out siege placement lessons, offensive and defensive for the Borderlands and I feel that I am making a difference by sharing knowledge with the masses/pug/non wvwvw veterans. An educated/sound strategy 5-10man team can do a lot more damage than a lot of zergs on defense and offense.
By communication I do not mean simply scouting, guarding reporting enemy movements, its more about communicating with each other about What you are doing. If you left your post to check on another contested spot or to scout ahead for a potential zerg movement inform the map or other important people / commanders (whether on voip or chat).
These friendly movement and actions can also be communicated in a more micro level during a Zerg vs Zerg or defending against an all out siege…for example…I don’t know how many times I have taken a couple of random pugs flanked around, time warp built a balista and took out tonnes of their offensive siege. It was all possible because I would clearly outline in /s what my plan was, “Grabbing supply from TCBL Garrison, going to champs to flank around with Balista to take out Catas, need two people with supply for group” Friendly movements and actions being communicated go a long way towards great coordination than calls on enemy movements do.
There is only so much knowledge one gains from simply calling out enemy numbers and enemy siege.

I just want to say that CF or CM guild (Crime something…) on Yaks is probably individually the most skilled rival guild I have faced as a TC-er, every time i see their tag I know I am going to have a tough fight on my hands. They don’t seem to have that many members but each member seems to bring the pain.
Recently I went up against a fellow mesmer of theirs who was camping the EB JP and he is one of the very few mesmers over the course of WvWvW (from launch) who has beaten me in a straight up duel.
/bow,
TheonThat was meee! Btw, you are incredibly hard to kill. After our duel my hands were shaking. I don’t normally have trouble with other mesmers but kitten dude, you are a beast.
You had the mental edge after you pulled me off edges a few times. I was way too paranoid to play all out aggressive because your movement was really scaring me ;(. Also the shatter build + blurred edges burst hurt a lot. I also had to realize quickly when to time my bursts because of the confusion stacks. As the fight went on I realized I was hurting myself a lot more than you were. :@ I do not know if I would have beaten you if we dueled again but I would love to try without the mental edge of being thrown off a few times in the JP xD.

I would also recommend Yaks Bend. (Tarnished Coast player here)
I have nothing but respect for what those guys are able to do with inferior numbers to both FA and TC. They are the best in tier 3 in Defense (Easily). They could use some help in creativity and seige placement in offense and monitoring the ‘pug’ zergs however they make up for it with a lot of individually skilled players as well.
If you are not going to Yaks then come to Tarnished Coast, we will need all the help when we move up to Tier 2. We have always had a solid community with very loyal guilds and lots of veteran / experienced commanders.

WvW has but one incentive for [ULTD], war. Winning said fights through superior tactics. The server may not be number one, but when we hit the field it’s your keeps or your blood. We’re going to take one of the two, if not both.
Isn’t that why we bought this game?
I have to say some of the tactics I have seen you guys use, makes me grin. Yes, I get my rear end handed to me, but I always learn something every time. Believe me, when I see ULTD, I tend to think twice before acting. And I like that.
I am one of the WvW Commanders in ULTD.
We have one goal in WvW: Prosecute our enemies and kill them repeatedly.
Often times we forgo the opportunity to make a server wide tactical decision in favor of what we do best: WvW wide murder. The battlefield is our home.
If we see an opportunity to assault a tower only that another server’s proud zerg can continually push their group against our might few, we will do it and farm them for an hour.
If we see an opportunity to put up crossed swords on an objective with soul purpose of drawing out as many zergs against us as possible, we do it and then continually blast our way through your forces.
We like to let you regroup, take a tower or a camp and feel confident. Then we like to smash that confidence and roll your groups and zergs up into nice tasty loot bags. The feeling is even better when we hear you left the zone to go to another.
We might even let you kill a few and give the illusion we are running, only to turn around and punch you in the mouth.
You can take this message as a chest thump. We have already played in the T1 bracket as a founding member of the Titan Alliance. We have fought against the best and beat the best. We came to FA because there are fewer queues and the enemies we would face would outnumber us. More killing for us. More QQ tears to collect into little bottles and give to the WoW players as mana pots.
If you see our tag on the battlefield, its because you are right where we want you to be. It was not coincidence that we showed up on your screen, it was planned. We know how to manipulate the map to get our enemies to feed us kills, bags, badges and fights.
Good fights to everyone and see on the battlefield.

Actually find most ULTD users in the borderlands very easy to take out. You have some skilled people in EB now and then. I find the JPN guys more skilled individually.

Had a lot of fun backdooring AH and EH for a total of three times today when Tarnished Coast were out-manned. I believe twice to FA and once to Dragonbrand.
[VoTF] www.votf.net
Just wanted to point out one thing.
FA is excellent at defending key assets like ORBS and Garrisons (Like on the first day on their borderlands).
Still, the reason you guys took the lead in points is because of a decision by our commander that backfired. The decision to attack RB backfired, we thought it would encourage you guys to attack BAY but instead you hit AH and DB hit GL.
It was my idea to build the TREB in the corner to take out your siege up near the altar.
We had another plan in the works which I could say with a lot of confidence would have worked and allowed us to grab the orb and bring it to AH.
The plan was to do a ‘fake garrison take’ (since your water gate was not repaired we were confident we would break it easy). To make the fake more convincing I was going to waste a couple of golems in the rush as well. After we bring the inner gate low (<50%) the plan was to jump back in the water go from the side to grab your orb at Spritholme. It would be too late before you guys would have realized what happened.
Unfortunately we decided to mess with DB first which meant we couldn’t execute this plan. Which is why you guys took the slender lead you did. A lot of it was thanks to DB being really good as well.
I am pretty sure even without the ‘higher population’ and ‘night capping’ accusations TC would have stayed in the lead in the first day if we executed this. Anyway lots of IF’s there just telling you guys what could have been.
