Oh I just wanted to add that in hobby RPG stuff you’re supposed to do everything in your power to help and improve your team. I’ve had many a party mate in dnd whose alignment dictated that they not care about the party and on more than one occasion they have literally killed the entire party (a member once tapped the ceiling of an underground tunnel with his staff and buried us killing us all and before that attempted to mount a drake 5 levels higher than us to try and tame it and we had to use all of our daily spells to save him).it’s those kinds of situations in RPGs including selfish phiw dungeon players I can’t tolerate. That’s why wipes happen and dnd campaigns end before their time.

Nah, you weren’t, because in a pug rules like that aren’t applied. You should always be careful, because you can’t trust your teammates.
I’d try scepter, though. I loves scepter pistol/focus and sword/sword.

I’ll run scepter torch pistol and try to be useless just because I like pew pew and I love the prestige skill haha

I can condone a crappy choice of weapons… if your team isn’t harmed by it. So, scepter mesmer at mai or a ranged weapon if the whole team is ranging. What I don’t accept – and never will – is the rest of the team having to do most of the work because of selfish choices.

You can’t expect pugs to be good and melee, so you have to adapt… unless you’re a guardian, then every single pew-pewing kittened huntard or water staff elly will demand protection from you. And trying to get good is not what I’d call stubborness. Trying to help your team isn’t stubborness either. I consider going bearbow in a team as far more stubborn.

Yeah I can agree with this. I don’t think I was hurting the team, though I could be wrong, because the team was fairly ragtag and they mainly ranged in boss situations. Depended on the situation of course.

I almost went “oh god, not another one” after reading Lilith’s story. But I’m biased. If you’ve ever run a fractal with 4 mesmers mostly enjoying their greatswords and your guardian ends up the only thing in melee aside from some shiny illusions, you will understand. (I know I have to blame myself, but ranging on guard feels so weird every time I do it.)
Don’t get me wrong however. One or two mesmers are fine, even great. Three are approaching critical mass. And four, well, yeah.

But I think pink butterflies suit Lilith, so there’s that.

Imo only one mesmer is enough lol. If I can survive in melee I’ll pull out my shiny sword. I love mesmer 1 handed sword, don’t get me wrong, but it’s pretty great to be able to switch gears just by switching weapons. I enjoyed it ^^

Story time.

Yesterday I got online at around 8PM EST. I signed onto my ele, and the second I loaded in I had 4 whispers from various friends (and one rando) asking for fashion advice. I spent about 15 minutes answering them, and doing my best to help, but eventually I shoved them all off and joined a budding guildie’s fractal 11 (which I had to fill with Jerus, Salthazar (a forum lurker) and a pug ele). I decided, hey what the heck, let’s play my mesmer instead of ele. This is significant. Because I never do fractals with anything other than my ele. And I have 1700+ hours on her, and only 69 (bow chicka bow wow) on my mesmer.

Anyway I swapped some AR stuff over from my ele (I didn’t need to, but meh!) onto my mesmer, and having never done fractals on my mesmer, I had to think a lot about weapons and utilities.

Anyway, I portaled my group through the wisps on my first try (maybe that isn’t as miraculous as I thought it was, I’ve never done it before!) and we get to bloomy. I take out my 1h sword pistol/focus and after a super failed might stack by our pug ele (she was an Asura though so it’s okay) we headed into the fight with 6 stacks of might. I laid down timewarp, feedbacked at the right times, no one downed, no one died, we killed bloomy without an icebow (our ele was against it, I think).

So we finish, we get Ascalon… I replace my pistol with my shiny Belinda’s greatsword. I pew pew all over the place. I’m yoloing. I’m having a blast. The rest of the group seems to be having some fun. The ele has been silent the whole time, no hi, no icebow, but hey whatever yolo. We wipe before the ritual, run back, take care of business, and then fight the boss. Lots of deaths, except for a couple strays and the ele and I, I’m pew pewing the crap outta him, having my greatsword illusion beating him up a bit. We kill him, res our party mates, and move along.

We then get Grawl. Started the fight with 1 AFK and me ignoring the party selling some stuff on the side (it didn’t go unnoticed) and then i pew pew some more and kill things. Wow! Such pew.We get to the veterans and they’re so slow it’s… stupidly easy. We finish that… and then… Imbued shaman. Well. I was pretty certain there would be a wipe. Almost certain. But no. We’re doing well. Things are good. And then the last phase all but me and the ele are dead. I’m pew pewing doing MASSIVE (lol) dps, and the Shaman is FIXATED on the ele. All I could think was she was wearing tank gear. I couldn’t understand why the Shaman was just… all over her. But regardless. I get hit by an arrow, I go down. The team is cheering us on, but then is like “Oh no!” when I go down. The Shaman though… he doesn’t care that I’m down. He’s ignoring me. He’s focused on the ele. I rally as the ele goes down, pew pew him twice, and he’s dead. Done. Shaman done. We pick up the team… and move along.

Then we have the Molten Duo. I loved this party, they didn’t seem to understand what I meant by stand on the berserker, so it’s a good thing I brought my greatsword, so myself, Jerus, and the ele ended up getting him down from range, rest res, and we beat up the firestorm. Largely uneventful.

Why am I telling this story? Well…. If I had been on ele, I would never have been able to help carry my party. I know this because any time I’ve been on my ele, I’ve downed in all of these places. Even on the level 11’s. But for some reason, when I was on my mesmer (who used to be my glorified barbie doll, basically) I actually could switch gears when things went south (weapon swapping from melee at the shield bubble to range when everyone was dead from the eles despite my feedback). With Ele, I wasn’t able to do that. Because… I guess I’m bad at ele? Maybe I think too much on my ele? I don’t know. But my mesmer… I loved it. I had so much fun. I haven’t had that much fun playing a class since I started elementalist. And yes, I know that I handicapped myself with the greatsword, but if I’m totally honest with y’all, I understand why so many mesmers like it. It’s freaking fun. And safe. There doesn’t seem to be a safe weapon set with ele.

In the end, I’ll probably start running my mesmer a lot more in fractals. I adore the gameplay. I will always love my ele. But perhaps it is time to retire her.

Sorry yall hate them. As an altoholic, they’re a godsend. I don’t have to waste charges. And if they keep making them, I’ll have a dozen choices while leveling.

The ceremonial outfit and ancestral outfit I don’t think would make good mix and match armors anyway. I mean, nothing realistically would match them. Maybe it would be nice to be able to toggle off the shoulders of outfits next, which is probably doable, but these can’t work as armors. And I for one like their looks.

I think the delaqua family blade is a story instance only weapon, like caldebog. There’s NO way anet can sell a skin on the TP, then give away/make earnable a better version in game. Look at the flame kissed light armor fiasco for a hint of how this would go, only then, it was 20 gold, not 8 dollars in real money.

It’s sort of the opposite though. The better version available in game and the lesser skin in the gem store. But meh idk. We will see

Ehhh, but it’s also the other way around. I mean, if someone assumed I’m a girl it’d TOTALLY rub me the wrong way. I wouldn’t like it at all, I’d feel uncomfortable… at least for a second. Since the majority of players is composed by males… yeah.
I sometimes type “he/she”, but I’m not always bothering. I’m a lazy kitty. If I get corrected I personally don’t feel anything in particular. I don’t treat people differently unless the person encourages me to do so… for instance, I noticed girls quite often initiate themselves all the “cute” or “girly” talk – with exceptions.

The one piece skins you can apply for free that you can’t alter except for dyeing are what I am calling “outfits”. Like the assassin’s outfit or ancestral.

A top contender that’s for sure.

The clipping is hard to avoid. The outfit is just so large and ornate that it doesn’t fit the animations of most races. I don’t know what they could do to prevent the hair clipping without some intense changes to the shoulders or the hairstyles which… well both choices suck. The hands through the legs is… well a result of the outfit on the legs just being wide. You can’t change the human animations to prevent the clipping and you probably won’t redesign the armor.

It’s a consequence of large armor. It sucks, and certain clips can probably be fixes easily (like your norn’s butt clipping through) but most are really present in the whole game and are problems with most armors.

I like it a lot despite clipping. It dyes beautifully.
