I understand what you are saying, and I fully admit that there is some validity to being cautious. However, I think the example above indicates a failure to manage expectations. If posts regarding the continued absence of the scavenger hunt had been addressed head-on as they appeared, there would not have been this sense of “betrayal”. But simply deciding not to talk about things at all anymore was a knee-jerk overreaction that has had a net negative effect on the community.

Expectations were managed as well as they could be. Every few months there was an update, the most recent being before the April update when it was mentioned that precursors were not addressed because of the massive changes to the system which superseded the work that had been done so far. Mostly the wardrobe function, which changed the way a lot of people see Legendaries (once the skin is unlocked it can be applied to any weapon, allowing you to easily dual wield Incinerator or carry Twilight on multiple toons). Demand for the items shot up and people have been complaining about the market ever since.

Imagine how many more kittens would be thrown if the number of people working on Legendaries had double or tripled on top of this increase in demand. The devs are human and they got excited about a project and said too much, too quickly. Once bitten, twice shy.

Now, despite the periodic updates, since it was first mentioned I don’t think a month has gone by without someone posting a demand to know why the “precursor scavenger hunt” or “precursor crafting” hasn’t gone live yet. This started mere weeks after the idea was first mentioned in passing, as though players expected Anet to go from just talking about it to programmed and bug-free in less than a month. They haven’t even released specific details, and people still insist that it’s a scavenger hunt, that precursor crafting is a different system altogether, that Anet hasn’t said anything at all…

If the players posting questions had reasonable expectations it would be easy to give them a reasonable answer. But when they don’t bother to read what has already been posted, when they argue with anyone who tries to explain what’s going on, when they demand that changes be made immediately as though testing and bug-fixing were unnecessary and one guy can handle the whole job before his lunch break, those are not reasonable expectations.

Even within this thread you can see numerous examples of trolling, unreasonable expectations and unnecessary insults thrown directy in the devs’ faces when they try to explain what’s going on from their side of the keyboard. If management were to look at a few of the messages posted in the last few days, they would be more likely to shut down the forums altogether than to loosen restrictions on talking about current and future development plans.

“Skips” generally require abuse of terrain to accomplish. An example of this would be “breaking out” of the map in order to bypass content. Doing such would be quantified as exploitation, using an exploit and profiting (“selling” runs) would be quantified as selling an exploit.

Without going into punishment or policy, we are going to be ramping up on GM coverage in dungeons. If you believe that someone is exploiting, please do report them in-game.

I doubt he sees skill as an exploit. Content in action based games (where you have everything you need on your own character) is always soloable as long as there aren’t any restrictions which make it impossible.

Out of those, I like the rampart variant the most. If you manage to create something without gemstore armor other than Phalanx that’d be great, if not that’s fine too, just means I need to spend some of my sweet, sweet gold.

Okay here’s some examples: I went for something a little barbaric. The last picture is a bit less barbaric, and more to go with the shoulders gloves and boots. It’s rampart. I really love the detail on rampart armor so I included it. Let me know if any pieces from these photos strikes your fancy, and I can use them to design something more cohesive.

I think for AC, since it is the first dungeon, it should incorporate a lot of the mechanics you’d find in other dungeons and have little popups (that you can turn on and off of course) that say things like “stability is a boon that is great for fighting these gravelings!” And other things like that.

But that’s a bit heavy on development so I doubt that would be something they are open to. Anyway. With AC, the bugs that can require a reset of the dungeon need to be fixed. Aside from Detha, there is also the Grast one at collosus rumblus. Where he won’t appear. Also in p3, there is a bug that prevents the experience reward being given, and you never get changed back from being a ghost despite killing the boss.

The temples, tequatl, Wurm (afaik) drop a lot more dragonite than the smaller meta boss events. But sometimes they are harder to do because of the megastar system or just plain organizing a server to do them.

Dungeons, in explore mode, are run for a few reasons. Fun, of course, daily gold reward, and armor skins.

I’m sorry, Chris, but this is neither a good nor acceptable reason to avoid the forums.

I work right now as pizza delivery. It really, really sucks. You can be delivering in a snowstorm, be two minutes late, and the customer won’t care. And they will berate you, withhold a tip, and complain to your manager.

And we take it. And we apologize, and we give them a free pizza and try to make the delivery a better experience next time. Because that person is a customer, and no matter how kittenty they are to us, we need their business.

And it’s horrible. It’s a really demeaning and stressful job for sucky pay, and I hate it, but I accept it. Because that’s what it means to provide a service. That’s what it means to rely on a customer. I don’t get to hide my head in the sand. I don’t get to avoid the angry customer, I have to face them head on. I have to take the initial brunt if they’re upset. And I don’t get to retaliate, because my job is on the line.

And that’s for a lowly pizza delivery job. You guys are so much higher up on the food chain.

Something that would help is if you could gather a thread for each dungeon (perhaps you’ve all already created one per dungeon?), and list out the major changes that you feel the dungeons would need to make them better, in concise bullet points. That way it’s easier for us to provide them to the development team.

Every time there’s a public outcry about something, this is what Anet asks for. People are foolish enough to oblige. It cools them off because they think Anet is finally listening. And Anet gets away with doing nothing.

For example, see WvW forum: this has happened several times there already.
