This alludes to some of the reasons why the official [DnT] tournament had a really hard time garnering participation. If you structure it basically the same but call it a “pub tournament”, that doesn’t necessarily do anything if non-pubs can come in and clean house for big rewards.

Well… there likely wouldn’t be a full speed run party since party comp is based on RNG. those elite players would ideally be spread across the groups.

Edit: to your edit I could be being naive but if a person joins a tournament designed specifically for competing in a pug they can’t really complain when the group is not an elite guild and the run is not as organized as in their elite guilds.

As for the requirements: How about answering some questions about the classes they want to participate with ingame?
Nothing is more annoying then a thief who doens’t know how to stealth the group without shadow refuge
Also i think it may be a good idea to make the partys not completely random, but with “guaranted” different classes.
For example: We have 3 Streamers and 3 Guardianplayers want to participate, so every group gets a guardian, etc.
That way no group will be at a total disadvantage just from the classes they have. I know that most players have more than one 80 they can play, so this situation is rather unlikely, but still noteworthy i think, as most may want to play with there mains, as they are best with them.

My thought on classes is that… well. It’s a pug. When you don’t have a guardian, you adapt. This is why I added the more than 1 class requirement. I think that having at least that many options in a party would be fine, but of course if someone else has that fear, we can discuss ways of mitigating the problem.

I’ve been asked for clarification; by pug tournament I mean, groups are assembled randomly. So it’s possible for people of the same guild to be in the same group, but groups are not based on whether they are in the same guild.

So a group of 5 is chosen randomly from the pool of signed up players.

I dont think people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing(noobs) would even be in this area to sign up. I think the metric of what defines “noob” and not so “noob” needs a bit of detailing.
E.g. Ive ran all but 2 or 3 dungeons thus havent got the dungeon master, also meaning I havent got any hobby stuff. Even if I went and got the dungeon master I would still need to go and get the 30-50 hobby.

Nothing would prevent me and my pug team from specifically practicing those 2 or 3 dungeons so I am relatively proficient in them.

Sure. But I just felt there should be some sort of metric. Dungeon Master itself doesn’t mean that much, and neither does Hobby. But I’m trying to put the bar somewhere in between totally casual dungeon runners and elite. I’d personally love to have the elite members of the community have an interest in joining…. but if they get a team with people who have literally never stepped foot outside of AC, that’s not going to be fun for them at all.

A better metric would be nice. But I don’t think there should be a total lack of requirements.

Hey guys, I wanted to peg some interest for a tournament I thought of last night in the midst of the fantastic DnT Tourney I had the pleasure of casually viewing this weekend while I cooked all day on Saturday.

Also just as a quick note I’m not necessarily back, but I plan on being around for Halloween and Wintersday, because I enjoy both of those events. The reason I’d like to do this is because I’m sincerely missing running community events and contests, as I’m lacking a community in D3 and other games (there just isn’t a community like GW2).

So the Pug Tournament. Here’s my idea and justification:

Things I was trying to consider:

• This Tournament would be semi casual friendly
• This Tournament would only require players to be the best player they can be, rather than relying on their guilds, friends, etc, in order to compete
• This Tournament would eliminate as much RNG as possible when putting teams together
• This Tournament would be run by the community, and volunteers, in order to keep things civil and light hearted
• This Tournament would have prizes, but also participation prizes to encourage anyone to participate
• This Tournament would use the GWSCR rules (Plus any additional that are added) and utilize community member judges and experts
• This Tournament would not attempt to be clever with format, rules, or anything of that sort and would likely stick with the format used by DnT in their latest tournament (which I felt was quite fair and successful).
• This Tournament would be timed around Christmas (but not ON Christmas) and timing would be decided based on a straw poll, survey monkey, etc.)

So the way I envisioned it was as follows:

1. A number of people sign up.
2. Using random number generators, a multiple of 5 participants from each region will be chosen to participate (If 31 NA folks sign up, 1 person would be placed as an alternate if any of the 30 members fail to show up, also I was thinking a sign up to be an alternate would be a great way for others to participate tentatively, especially community members unsure of whether they’d like to participate)
3. People can choose to sign up as the streamer. When choosing teams, the team leaders will be chosen from the pool of potential streamers. If there are not enough streamers, this will limit the amount of teams, so it is encouraged to stream by an additional prize of “MVP – Most valuable pug” that would be chosen among the streamers.
4. The teams will be chosen at random. When chosen, the teams have 15 minutes to prepare with their party before the first round begins.
5. The Initial round would be a Battle Royale style when each random team does the same path and the top 8, or 12, or however many depending on the format will continue on to duel it out with their random teams.

Potential requirements for participation:

I know I already said it to a few people, but I wanted to let you all know that I’m heading out and won’t be back until things are fixed.

I’ve enjoyed so much of these 2 years with all of you, and I’ve loved teaching and learning along side some of the best people I’ve ever met on the internet.

I will still run my website for chat and such, and the occasional contest for lulz, but there’s just too much stuff I can’t ignore anymore.

I’ll see you in other games I’m sure. I’ve already met some people in D3 from GW2 and I’ll probably mess around with that for a while. Is “The Secret World” any good?

At the rist of derailing the thread (and risking a closing since it’s no longer about GW2), I’d say The Secret World is GREAT, but also very different from GW2.

My experience is from back when I was playing (before GW2 release and sporadically afterwards). If you like good stories, the the storyline and the delivery are EXCELLENT, I’d say it’s one of the best MMOs out there when it comes to storyline, lots of memorable characters.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for lots of group content, and specially open world group content, look elsewhere. The game is very athmospheric, and actually works better when there are fewer people running around. Some quests are easier with groups, but also most of quest lines have solo instances so you won’t be able to complete them from beggining to end with a group. Each area has a 5 man dungeon but chances are you’ll outlevel (your character doesn’t have levels, but your gear does) them long before you manage to find a group to do them, but you can do them at level cap in a harder mode anyway, which is what most people do. Dungeons are great and usually short, most boss fights have interesting mechanics (it’s a trinity based game), and there’s very little trash to fight, so usually you go almost straight from boss to boss.

My favorite thing about TSW is the investigation quests, but they’re not for everyone. Basically they’re quests where you have to think more than you have to fight. BTW, if you believe that the game should give you all the information to complete the quests, look elsewhere, as you will have to frequently look for outside sources to complete them, and asking for solutions in open chat is generally frowned upon the community, as it would accidentally spoil the answer to someone that is trying to do them on their own (asking for the answer to be whispered or in private chat is ok, though).

Some examples of that, at one point in egypt you get an item relate to some biblical events, but the names used to activate the item are in ancient hebrew, so you have to find out somewhere how those were written to use the item, at another point (this one is early in the game) you spy on a communication sent to someone that might be an undercover agent for a rival organization, the comnunication is a series of beeps (turns out it’s morse code) which you need to manually transcribe and decode, another one you’re looking for information related to a specific (fictional) celebrity in the area, you find another character that has a fansite that might have that information… and the website URL you’re given is a real website (created by funcom, of course) where you can dig around to find the information.

Biggest problem, however, is replayability. Any character can eventually get enough points to basically have any build, so there’s really little incentive to create alts. The story is great, but once you’ve gone trough it, even if you do chose another organization, changes very little on a second playtrough. End game consists basically on the same 8 dungeons in hard mode, then again in nightmare mode and (as of last time I played) 1 short raid with a single boss. The story continues on more chapters, including new areas as well, but you have to buy them. Still, I’d recommend it at least for one playtrough.

Just as a tip ^^ putting info like this in spoiler tags (even if not a spoiler) can be a good way to prevent the derailing of a thread and moderation intervention.

I’ll take that 100g bet. We aren’t going to ignore reports of GM impersonation and harassment. This was a case of both, and has been dealt with. These players have been actioned, one more severely than the others.

Yup. But the problem about reporting here on the forums is that it requires information to be shared in a public place that should not be. It’s against the forum rules to do so, and thus the posts have to be taken down. However, in a CS Ticket, that isn’t the case.

As with any in-game enforcement, it is not going to be visable to anyone but the player being actioned (unless in rare cases like the one above). You want to see results of your reports and feel that your reports are going into a black hole. This is hardly the case, as most harassment cases (with actual information being shared in the ticket) are reviewed by a senior GM. Since we don’t share the results of those cases with the players reporting, you aren’t going to see when when someone gets actioned.

Most players that are actioned do not repeat offend. Unfortunately, some do…and they won’t be allowed back in when caught.

I agree that the party system has a problem with player kicks, and we aren’t going to ignore that. Unfortunately as it’s been stated by other devs, this isn’t an easy fix. Please keep your reports coming in until we fix the problem.

Instead of Eliminating the instance owner, you could have just made it a system to Handover ownership. Seems like an easy fix.

I’d rather see ANet discuss these things with players before running in and implementing a solution that is no better than it was before. The new ownership model fixes one problem, but opens up a ton of griefing opportunities.

If they’d posted something, anything…“Hey, we’re going to revamp the ownership model to get rid of the bug that’s been here for two years. We want to touch base with you, the players, to make sure we understand the issue completely and implement something satisfactory!”

I have a feeling we would have ended up with a system of strong ownership:

• There is an instance owner. This player has sole control over kicking the other players. It is their party, and they are in charge.
• It takes one vote to kick other players: the owner’s vote.
• The owner may transfer ownership to another player by right clicking on the party UI.
• If the owner DC’s for 5+ minutes or otherwise leaves the party, ownership is transferred to another player, by vote or RNG.

This would fix:

• Instance destruction when owner leaves
• “Join & Kick” abuse
• The new “I lost my solo instance because I DC’d!” issue.

It clarifies who is in charge, prevents griefing, and protects both sellers and inexperienced players when they start their own groups.

Instead, these decisions are made behind closed doors with 0 community involvement. Is it any wonder that the results don’t jive with what the community wants?

Hire better thinkers maybe who play the godkitten game. That way they can see that the problem has nothing to do with someone owning the instance and everything to do with the lack of option to appoint a new owner.

I’ll go ahead and clarify since there has apparently been different information coming from different sources in the past. Customer Service is not able to support party politics unless they involve cases of targeted harassment in-game. This is because of the number of different reasons that certain party politics happen. Since CS only has access to actions that occur in-game, we are unable to verify specifics for incidents in a large number of incidents. Specifics are the most important part of these situations.

However, we do view player reports via CS tickets, and if a player can be verified as a habitual abuser of the LFG system or parties in general, we can take action against them.

It seems to me, regardless of the specifics, If I post a dungeon or fractal near the end and someone joins and steals my and my parties instance (let’s say I have 2 others and the newcomers kick all three of us to STEAL this instance) that they should be permanently banned from the game. It shouldn’t matter if is 3 were selling a trio Arah run or just needing help. That’s blatant harassment and should be punished without mercy the first time it happens, TO PREVENT IT FROM BECOMING HABITUAL.

Btw whichever developer created the backpiece is hardly koalafied. This demonstration of cruelty is grizzly. Stop pandering around.

The topic here is that, the level of taste when choosing a design for the leather crafter’s back piece. There are many other options to choose from but why put a bear’s head on it? That head is of no use for leather crafting.

In comparison to the other back pieces, you can see the progression starting from a very basic back piece then to a more elegant piece. While leather back piece, starts out to be elegant then to a pile of dead animals.

Beginner leather worker will have their materials and tools all over the place, but a more experience leather worker will have their materials and tools organized and more systematic. The 400 leather crafter back piece doesn’t reflect the level at all and the head of a dead animal only makes it worst.

Irrelevant. It takes less than 22g to get Leatherworker to 400 ( source ), so nothing prestigious.

Btw, you know what leatherworker uses to craft?
Hint: It comes from dead animals.

So solution is still in place: don’t wear it, or make something else.

What’s the topic here? You looking for attention because you made something you can complain about? Then you shouldn’t have made it. And if you made it for stats (which are relatively low in comparison to ascended) use transmutation charge to change it into something else. End of problem.

The topic here is that, the level of taste when choosing a design for the leather crafter’s back piece. There are many other options to choose from but why put a bear’s head on it? That head is of no use for leather crafting.

In comparison to the other back pieces, you can see the progression starting from a very basic back piece then to a more elegant piece. While leather back piece, starts out to be elegant then to a pile of dead animals.

Beginner leather worker will have their materials and tools all over the place, but a more experience leather worker will have their materials and tools organized and more systematic. The 400 leather crafter back piece doesn’t reflect the level at all and the head of a dead animal only makes it worst.

Irrelevant. Regardless of how you stretch it (pun intended) this is still just as much a dead animal as the bear. If you actually believed what you’re saying you’d be against any and all leather and fur.
