This is totally the most absurd response I’ve ever seen. OP, I’m sorry this happened to you. If everything happened exactly as you said it, it is absolutely griefing and they should be punished. You should submit those screens via email to anet, and explain the story. I have doubts much will be done, but Anet really wants this game to seem welcoming to casual players and newbies so I think it’s possible they might issue a warning or maybe a temp suspension, though I wouldn’t count on it.

To others in this thread… no. Unless the group said “story experience only yaddiyaddiyada” OP and others are under no obligation to make a group explicitly saying they want to watch cutscenes. if anyone wants to watch the bloody cutscenes they should not be kicked for doing so unless they join a defined speed run. Especially not at the end of the godkitten dungeon.

We are seeing more noobies now than for a while. How about we not defend the jerks being jerks. JFC.

I thought of the risen knight because his AA has been pretty brutal to me solo (even on thief, I never have enough dodges…), but you’re right, in a group, he’s not really a problem. Chaining aegis / heals / blocks + dragonrolls would probably be enough solo on guard.

PS Warr is a good point — Ty runs his with me a lot, so I might start experimenting with hammer during those runs just to get a feel for it. It would be fantastic to get another blast for stealth, though I really like having GS / sw+f on skips…

I feel bad for all the pugs that carried that st/sc+t guard to 50, Lilith xD Did he at least brag about his burning uptime?

I’m pretty “anything goes” since I’m fairly casual, but I have to admit when I saw the staff/scepter torch guard in lvl 50 fractals 2 days ago I had a lot of doubt there.

I had a very similar experience when searching for guilds myself. Often The larger guilds were cliquey and unwelcoming.

Your number of a dozen to 2 dozen players is probably going to make this difficult though, because often times guilds only have a quarter or less of their active players online at once, so a small guild like that can seem much less social.

So barring your membership #, I would like to recommend the Knights of Ares [ARES], which was the first NA guild I found that was welcoming and fun, with great senses of humor, and in general a great all round guild. I ran into them in pugs, and then eventually joined when I had had a really terrible experience with some other guilds.

Anyway it’s a bit larger than what you’re looking for, but I’d encourage you to check it out (assuming you’re 18+, have a good sense of humor, etc).

Oh. I guess I never played with a good engi then. Almost no experience with that class in PvE so I assumed since in over 2 years I never saw it happen that engis can’t carry, at least not to the extent of a guard or ele.
No need to derail anything. Just shows how small the percentage of good engis actually is. (I usually play in the 40 and 50 brackets).

I don’t think it’s the percentage of engis that are bad as much as not a lot of people play engi as a main pve class.

I very rarely run into engis, but for the most part the engis I run into are more likely to be good players than say, the guards I run into pugging.

The first time I met Nevets was in a fractal pug. He carried my entire group (before fractured) and he is my favorite engi in all of gw2. I haven’t run with Sarah, but I’m sure she is also great. The type of player who chooses engi as a pve main I think is a special type of person.

Hey Sarah. This is what I came up with.

The first one takes a lot of inspiration from Colesy’s thief we worked together making. It requires the aetherblade pants and the krytan jerkin, and uses the buccaneer gloves and carapace boots.

The second one is a full body coverage outfit, I’m not particularly good at them, but it uses marauder pants and gloves with the strider jacket, and council watch shoulderguards.

The dyes are obviously not quite correct, though I think for the first outfit the purple could be swapped out by pretty much anything, though for the second, dye wise, I think you’d be better off with a darker color, (maybe one of the midnights, or darker enameled dyes) instead of the purple.

I’m having fun in [ARES], they’re strong in dungeons but don’t have a lot of fractalers. They also have a pretty dedicated pvp crowd.

I believe they are intentionally avoiding that word because even if they introduced instanced content. They dont want to use the same design as our classic dungeons. So we may get new types of instanced content. Maybe elite zones or instanced bosses.

although… i have dungeon master, 9 80’s, and knowledge of over 1/2 of the dungeon paths… but my hobby explorer is low (only recently did arah p4 and i fractal much more than dungeon) and my only fully geared toons are both engi. i hope i wouldnt get auto DQ’d, but if this happens in the mid term instead of the short term i could easily meet the quals. ill be a total baddie if im forced off my engi too lol.

For requirements in terms of DM and hobby, those were just thrown out there. People disagree on what sort of metric should be used, so that is still up for debate.

Just to clarify, I am thinking if I run this of trying to prepare it for mid to late december. If someone else takes the reigns which is possible that would be their call.

Players would probably be better than your normal pug. So you wouldn’t be having a brand new player in your group.

Storm crow had mentioned that, Iris and I really liked the idea, except we will have the problem of “who is the streamer”? Or would you lower to randomness and each remaining streamer would not be able to group together?

Unless we required everyone to be able to stream… but I think that’s a limiting requirement.

Don’t over-complicate it. The more rules/categories/systems you implement the harder and less fun it is for you to organize and the results won’t be worth the effort.

I agree. And any work a competitor has to do in order to register will deter many from participating (especially if the prize pool isn’t as big as prior tournaments). I’m fine with doing and running the tournament well and professionally but it’s meant for the fun of the competitors. If they need to take an SAT to register I think it will really dampen the fun.

Again these are just my opinions. Things are still in development.

Just throwing it out there. What about normal Pick up rules?

As in sports. Team captains, they pick players for the teams and then go.

Sign ups, get total number of participants, pick some captains, they pick players in order, this way good players get picked up evenly across the teams, then the unknowns will be thrown in.

Part of the challenge will be leading the team (and keeping your cool) while also going through quickly. Normal Meta speed run tactics may not win out over more controllable and consistent PUG tactics.

Do the “draft” a day ahead, giving the teams a day to practice/discuss. Announce the limited dungeon path selection. This way they can do a tour of the paths and get a general strategy they feel comfortable with.

In the end, best case someone wins, worst case the inexperienced players get a little mentoring.

I think I wouldn’t want to force people to dedicate more than 1 day to it because of RL time constraints and other issues. I don’t really like the idea of the teams being chosen that far in advance…. because in my mind (which in other words is of course open to discussion for those interested in organizing it) it’s supposed to be a less serious pug adventure. I’d like to see how a player can shine through the others and pull a team through an event. Those are my thoughts.

The only thing I’ll say, Lilith, is that there is a reason there isn’t a solo queue SPvP tournament, and it’s because everyone is going to get frustrated with the weakest link in their party, and even if they’re good sports about it, they’re going to feel like they are wasting their time or not waste their time and quit the tournament or act out and ruin it for the team. At the end of the day, no one in those groups will ever play the tournament a second time around.

I don’t necessarily know if there’s a good solution for that, or if we maybe just need to grind it into peoples’ heads that it’s just the way it is.

The only other thing I really dislike about a tournament like this is that it’s so RNG-based. What if some group rolls a bunch of pros? They’ll clean house on a bunch of pub-rife groups. Is that fun to watch / participate in?

You make great points, many I hadn’t considered and that’s why I posted asking. But I’m just trying to figure out why an advertised PUG tournament (which implies RNG and the like) would be hurt by RNG.

It’s impossible to please everyone… but that’s why there’s the elite tournament. Players who do not have a static team or elite guild often can’t get a group to compete with. Having a tournament that gives the most fair shot that is possible for a solo pug is probably the only way some people could ever compete in something like a tournament.

A player should not go into a tournament like this and expect to have the best players in the game. If they aren’t okay with that I don’t know why they’d sign up.

@Nyspar, I agree but I prefer 15 minutes of them knowing. Less time, more pug like!
