I kinda like not having UI. It forces you to pay attention. I really like not having auto-follow. That is the single most annoying and laziest MMO pvp command ever invented.

Supply Camps: XP Farms of WvW

The servers that do well in even battles (prime time fighting) are the ones that take and protect supply points. Like others have said, if you can protect your supply while disrupting the enemies, you can dictate the battle. SBI did that last weekend to us (ET) and probably HoD. We could never mount a good offense in the ET homeworld because our main force was reacting to the supply camps being taken by a small group of 5-10 SBIers. They would actually stay at the camp so 3-4 people had no chance to take it. It wasn’t until we sent a large 30+ zerg. Our zerg would take it and then leave. The SBI group would come right back and retake it. It must have happened a hundred times in a six hour period. It was so annoying watching it happen over and over. Our leadership finally wised up, built siege, and left people to protect our supply. Only then were we able to mount an offense and gain some ground. By then SBI was pretty far ahead. It was really an excellent tactical plan on their part. They definitely won the weekend battle because of it.

I like the passive affects of healing signet and adrenal in WvW. Passive allows me to go toe to toe with any range class and out damage them. I will always be healing and can stay engaged longer in large fights. A lot of damage in WvW is splash AOE damage, passive will take care of that. If you are getting tag-teamed by 2-3 people, you don’t have time to use a heal and most likely will never get it off. It is easier for me to focus on kiting and breaking immobilize than picking exact right time to use my healing to maximize my heal per second. Also, if I am at 90% health, in combat but not being focused, do I just heal and risk being caught without my timer up or do I wait till I am at 70% and being focused on again to heal? By then, healing from 70% to 100%, then taking more damage is not as good at being at 100% health and having passive healing per second.

I tried with just adrenal, but didn’t like it is really not enough. You also don’t always have it since you aren’t always at full adrenal. There are times you want to burst.

I been doing 0/20/30/20/0 with warhorn/sword and rifle. I picked-up spiked armor, endure pain, bull charge, and healing signet. Stacking all carrion armor and jewels. For WvW, it is super fast and super easy. The condition damage destroys people, not sure why but it does. As long as you know what you are fighting and how to fight them, you win most fights because people can’t get away and you always can. For the most part, you just need to keep people at 1000-1200 range. Once bleeds are stacked, the combination of retaliation, bleeds, and healing you will win. Like I said, the key is knowing what you are fighting. Some classes you need to keep at range, others you need to know when to switch to sword or you eat reflection damage. Others like Mesmer, you have to hit and run. Remember, if they have bleeds on them, they will not get out of combat heals, you will. Warriors have the longest duration bleeds.

Rotating WvW Population Caps

Right now they are not discouraging people from flocking to larger servers, thus making the problem even worse. That needs to be the first step. Next, some sort of steps need to be taking to even out the servers. Whether it is a population cap, out-manned bonus, objective locks during off hours, or even some sort of scoring bonus for lower population servers is up to Anet.

WvWvW is the biggest draw of GW2. Right now it is flawed and a lot of people are being discouraged. People are being punished just because they did exaclty what Anet asked and picked less populated servers. Now, their server can’t compete in WvWvW just because the more populated servers can out-man them. That just isn’t right or fair. If it is, why not just have 3 servers and ensure there is a 24 hour queue times.

I really hope Anet addresses this problem quickly. I hate to see such a great MMO die because they took to long to address a game breaking design flaw.

I am pretty sure there is no server alliance between ET and Storm. Both are focused on objectives. If you hold all the objectives of course they are going to attack you, they are going to take the closest ones and move on.

People assume because their server is losing, it must be because the other two are teaming them. It is a three way war and no one is teaming. What is happening to you is happening to ET and Storm. Storm just did a better job holding on to more over the weekend. Pretty sure the intensity of the battling will decline. It is going to revert to whoever has the biggest night time zerg will win.

Do you really think someone would exploit to kill a Yak? When you pile 30+ people within 5 meters, they warp in with swiftness, you are gonna get rendering issues. Happens to be all the time.

As for the invisible hack, it happened to me last night. Seemed like someone got stuck in the wall when it was rebuilt. Maybe when it was taking over the wall rebuild on them. Somehow after that they could move around invisible within the first floor of the tower. It didn’t seem like they could leave though. Think I eventually killed him with AOE bleeds.

All the towers and keeps interlock in favor of the homeland defender. The homeland can nuke the two high towers from the citidel. Those two towers nuke garrison. Garrison nukes keeps. Get the idea?

Pretty sure it will be even during the weekend. ET might have a slight advantage during the start of the weekend because they can get more of their guild in. Once the week starts, HoD will pull ahead because they can maintain the numbers easily for 24 hrs. All in all, it won’t prove anything. Until they have some sort of guild vs guild tournament, losers from both sides will talk smack, that is what anonymous forum trolls do.

Only defenders in their homeland should be the only ones to get ports to keeps. Everyone else should have to walk. Linked maps would be cool also.

Find an unused cannon or ballista and nuke people. A well-placed siege weapon can get a ton of kills with little or no effort.

I noticed an improvement from both SoS and IoJ toward the end of the week in tactics. Having siege on the cliffs over looking Longview was pretty funny. I tried to tell my side to rush up there and destroy them but they were moths-to-light on the keep door. I sat off toward the side and watched them get slaughtered hard by the siege weapons. Going to be a long week if we fight like that next time. You guys will get better, you just more geared people. I know the 3 orbs helped me a lot but some of your pvpers hit like wet noodles so I am guessing a lot of them aren’t 80.

How about once a year there have a Guild v Guild v Guild tournament. Guilds or even group of guilds can form 40 man teams and spend a certain amount of time fighting it out in EB. I am thinking 6 or 12 hours time periods. This would give smaller guilds a chance and eliminate off-hour capping. Do it once a day on the weekends till there is only one guild standing. Have different brackets based on where you live. People can sign-up based on time zones. Once you start getting into the semi-finals and stuff, you would have to come up with some sort of timezone compromise.

Basically a GW2 March Madness…..

Be interesting to see how guilds really stack up. I am willing to bet the landscape would be totally different from the WvWvW landscape.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I was surprised how helpful Ruin has been in WvW considering what I have read on these forums. I don’t see why they are so hated.

Home field advantage

Here are some idea that could help WvW. Give players in their homeland an advantage over the enemy. This will allow smaller servers to actually have a fighting chance against the juggernauts and give them some hope that they can actually do something. Here they are:

You can’t upgrade supply camps, towers, and keeps in enemy lands. It should be more difficult to hold those objectives. You can still place siege weapons there. You just aren’t going to have escort for supplies, cannons, or waypoints. You also won’t have those 4 veteran guards that roam around slaughtering everything in their path.

Another thing, have fog of war. Your map is not updated with cross swords in enemy lands. You never know where the enemy is unless someone says it in chat. Objectives will not change color on your map unless you go there and see who owns it. This would allow smaller forces to actually plan some guerrilla type attacks. Right now what is happening when the map is totally controlled by one side, a small forces takes an objective. Everyone on the larger side sees it immediately on their map and goes there. The small force either stays there and tries to defend (if they do they are overwhelmed) or they go to another objective. They never really accomplish anything. There is really no defending going on just reacting and retaking. Contrary to what most people think, it is super fast to get around in WvW with waypoints and 100% swiftness.

If this small force was actually able to take a camp then take an out of the way tower or even a keep without the enemy knowing because they are all camping spawn points, it might help these smaller servers. It would force the larger servers to spread out also. All we have now is one side takes something, everyone zergs there to retake, repeat.

Finally, orb bonus is a kick in the face to a struggling server. They can’t beat you with even odds, now you have better health and damage. It is almost impossible for me to lose against someone when I have it and I suck. The orb bonus should be, they can take yours away and keep theirs, but that is it.

It is obvious that WvW isn’t living up to the hype. I am sure it is not fun for a large majority of people on both the winning side and losing side. How about people give their ideas on how to make it better. Keep in mind, you can’t make the changes so outrageous that an out-manned buff turns a group of 5 people into wrecking machines. Here are mine:

1. Less expensive upgrades for losing servers. I don’t know about you but silver is pretty hard for me to come by. I am less likely to put a siege weapon down if I know it will get destroyed five minutes later when the zerg gets there. They would have to have a special tag that only lets them be placed when the servers are losing. Maybe let them take less supplies to build also.

2. War is expensive. Being the winning server takes its toll on your army. If one side is totally dominating, siege weapons start to decay do to the corruption associated with such a large Empire. Decay rates should be based on where they are located. In a keep, not so much. In open lands, a little faster (esp near spawn points). I predicted this in beta. Giving people a week or two weeks to set-up siege weapons would just get out of control. I would suggest making siege weapons cheaper in general to counter decay rates.

3. Allied servers. It is obvious some servers are larger than other. They are also getting larger by the day because everyone is flocking to them. I am not really sure how to do this right. One of the benefits of being on a normal size server is there is little to no wait on queue times. If two or more servers were grouped together, that would be lost. Maybe give priority to the main server but allow people in the larger servers to join in. It would of course be in a different bracket. Again, how do you handle when the population is full. Do you just boot the other server to allow people from the primary to join? I guess that is the only real way to do it. Maybe do some combination of the two. Pair really small servers together. Allow high servers to fill in the gaps. Of course, you might have problems with people from other servers not caring, but not much you can do about that.

4. Anti-zerg populations. This one probably won’t be popular, but how about raise and lower the population caps based on how many people are on each side. Prime time, server populations are higher. 3am, they lower to make it fair. If the other two servers don’t have anyone, well, I guess no one is WvW that week. Maybe if you allowed allied servers, it won’t be so bad.

The only other solution is to have 3 WvW servers. The queues would be huge though.
