I do WvW as well, I do incredibly good on it. Still doesn’t mean because you can hide behind the zerg the warrior doesn’t need a buff. WvW is good, is probably my favorite part of the game but saying warriors can 1 v 1 ANY class gives me the idea you have a lot of fun killing those false 80 all the time. I can do 7 v 1 no problem since I am geared and spec better than they are, now 1 v 1 to an equal, sure I win most of the time, but certain classes simply face stomp you anyways.

And by hiding our flaws behind a zerg I mean, we can deal decent aoe damage with a long bow when the #3 skill is off cool down. We can kill the random dude who is roaming around alone. There it’s where everything ends.

So what class do you claim can beat a warrior one vs one? Just curious…

Tpvp is a closed environment that is very predictable. It is so small, you don’t even need swiftness.

Solo WvW is a huge map where a lot of random things can happen. No mobility, you get zerged down. No condition removal, you fight that class that melts you. No offense, you are just a turtle. A warrior can have strong defense, super fast mobility, and decent offense to take just about any class in a 1vs1 situation. If some other people show up, you just zip away.

I guess we are on opposite sides of the pvp spectrum. I find tpvp a complete bore and total waste of time. I find nothing special about it. It pretty much what every other MMO has done the last 15 years.

WvW is a total rush. Nothing like ganking a few people then having a big zerg chase you down, only for you to lead them into your zerg or slip into a keep. Setting people up, slowing them down, or just zerging it yourself. WvW is always changing.

Tpvp…..they at the farm…..yawn….no wait blacksmith……wait, we need the stables….Oh wait, that was WoW, church, windmill, what else?

I love these threads. According to some of you, I am playing a totally under-powered class, yet I win just about every one on one encounter I have quite easily. I must be some sort of video game god. Talk about an kitten boost.

Mesmers make good commanders. They get invis for sneak attacks and render bombs. Can portal golems for quick strikes on water gate. Have clones so the enemy doesn’t know which to target. Once down, they can be a pain to kill.

4-5 mesmer can make it look like a zerg of 50 are attacking somewhere

I maybe 7/10, but I am 7/10 in all those areas at once. Nothing like having 30K hps, heavy armor, leaps/bullcharge, 100% swiftness, passive heals, conditions, condition removal, and decent direct damage all at once. A properly traited warrior is the perfect solo class. Many consider a thief, but I destroy them easily.

Is it just me or are Survivability warriors nothing compared to guardians?

A warrior has better mobility so he can end the fight whenever he wants. I find guardians pretty easy to kill one on one. Do not think I lost to one in months. Then again, a guardian by himself is a bad guardian. They are a group class not a solo class. A spirit weapon guardian can be troublesome but it is like fighting a mesmer, kite and shoot. Guardians range is pathetic so you start out with the advantage.

A melee warrior vs melee guardian, I guess a guardian would win that, but only kittens play melee warriors in WvW.

Greatsword with sword/warhorn is the fastest thing out there. You can pop in and out of combat it isn’t funny. Flurry is 4 seconds of immobilize. I have only seen one person in WvW use it. The person was so fast, it looked like they were speed hacking.

I love longbow during sieges. Fire door, leap into it to you aura, flurry. A piercing rifle is better in most other situations.

Wow. There are so many dynamic events in WvW – from securing checkpoints, escorting Dolyaks, repairing walls and gates, capturing objectives, and killing other players. All these activities give money. How is a 2-3s repair a gold sink?

This is significantly cheaper than doing a dungeon and dying and waypointing, then dying then waypointing, then dying again.

I have to agree. I usually make at least a gold per night from WvW. If you are dying that much, you really need to look at what you are doing because you are doing something wrong. Mobility, mobility, mobility….

I do this build with carrion amulets. The power makes my spiked armor hit harder and my normal shots do more. I still have around 30% crit so with fury I am at 50%. I find when I have stacks of bleeds built, the person is at half health from my direct damage. Even if they got out of range, they will die. I also use signet of stamina for the extra full condition removal instead of frenzy. I do not see a reason I would want to take 50% more damage. Also, I won’t always have signet of rage available sometimes because I popped it to gain swiftness when roaming. Finally, leg specialist is a must for me. Itmakes a huge difference because the 1 second immobilize lets you control the distance and it stops movement attacks like leap, rush, and heart-seeker. I use earth sigil on my rifle because I want to build bleeds at range. I use sigil of hydromancy and sigil of geomancy. The hydromancy is great because it snares and causes longer cooldowns on skills. The geomancy is AOE free bleeds.

Overall, I beat just about every class but one. Condition engineer with shield is the only problem. They seem to have more condition removal plus confusion is annoying. The rock to my scissors. I will take that any day though. I mean a balanced game means I should win 50% of the time. I am winning over 95% of the time.

The condition warrior is great because it destroys thieves, no problem. In fact, I am consistently killing groups of 2 thieves these days since they are the FotM. Just line up cripple/immobilize. You can get a stack of 10 bleeds ticking before then even get to you. Once they do, endure pain and flurry. They melt because of their 14K health. The only other build I like to fight more than a thief is a great-sword warrior. Imagine the nerd rage going on when someone switched to a thief and still gets rocked in pvp.

The best thing is this build is not flashy. You will never get a 2 second kill so no one will ever complain. It is an OP build that will never be considered OP. Please don’t play it.

Nice job. As an avid server hopper, I spent a few days this week on Kaineng. It is a fun server, they have a ton of server pride. When I first switched, they were losing pretty badly but it didn’t seem to deter them. I have seen other servers just fold up and quit. It didn’t bother them, they would just keep plugging away trying to take objectives. We started with very little in our homeland, but by the end of the night, we pushed everyone out.

You can tell they are a young server. They made some newbie mistakes with siege, but I think all those things will come in time.

Nice win for the week.

If the problem is the client doesn’t update fast enough giving a thief an extra few seconds of stealth, why not just reduce the length of stealth to account for rendering? Or they could tag any thief or mesmer to automatically load first. That would be kinda funny, for the first 10 seconds of a battle only they render and die

If you put DoTs on a thief, the DoT damage will tick and show you where they are a couple of seconds before the rendering kicks in. It is like sonar. I can’t imagine fighting one without it anymore.

Really fun game. I just wish they would give more updates. Other than that, I am happy for the most part. Considering I was paying to play a game a didn’t like to I am playing a game I like for free, I IS HAPPY.

The bonus needs to account for the server size. If your server is full or high but you cannot fill a WvW zone, it isn’t the fault of the game. It is the player. If it is an off-hour and no one is playing on your server but the other is full, give a stat bonus.

Random guerrilla tactics aren’t very effective and probably hurt your team more than it helps. I see a lot of this.

Where it really helps if it is in conjunction with a siege or defense. If you can block supplies or protect. It helps alot.

Most randoms just hop from one camp to another. It usually never counts for a score and almost never helps the bigger fight.

No question it is fun. Fun and effective is better though.

Oh I’m not being a poor sport or wishing anything bad upon them. But holy crap the sheer amount of threads I see on the WvW forums about their accomplishments is crazy. And let us re-iterate, they are no longer the underdog. Their numbers have exceeded those of us at Devona’s, and seem to rival the Fergs. I find it thrilling to fight them and the Fergs this week, but I just find all the saber rattling tasteless. Perhaps this is just me. Either way, I said in my first post that what they are doing now is impressive, and i find the challenge refreshing.

Either way, best of luck to you guys, and see you on the field of battle.

For what they had to put up with, I don’t mind seeing posts about them improving. It is a good story. The ones that stayed kept a good attitude and are finally starting to see some progress. It isn’t easy being the last server. Unfortunately, that means your server will be the new dog. Just keep a good attitude and keep plugging away. Eventually, some server will implode and fall down the rankings. It will be just as sweet for you as it is for them.

If you want a great solo class for wvw. Go condition warrior rifle sword/horn. Pick 0/20/30/20. You will want healing signet, runes of lyssa, spiked armor, quick breath, and leg specialist. I personally like carrion trinkets but other high condition ones will work. Precision isn’t that important. You need maybe 20-30% to trigger sigil of earth once every 5 seconds. Utilities you want signet of stamina, bull charge, and endure pain. Elite is signet of rage.

The power of this build is it is simple, really simple. You only need to focus on position and very little in skills. There is no pressing 1,4,6,g,e,w. You want to control the fight at range as long as possible. Use cripple/immobilize at the start. A lot of times, it is more than enough. Backup using strafe keys since it is fast than s-key. Once they do get close, try knock-back. If that doesn’t work, either switch to sword and leap out or try dodging and pop off another snare/immobilize. Pop endure pain when all else fails Bull charge is a nice gap closer. Either use it to catch a someone or use it to run.

Ranged aren’t a problem. Your spiked armor, 26K-30K health, and passive heals wins that fight for you. The most dangerous ranged classes the ones that fight at close range. Just know which classes those are and adjust your tactics.

You have two full condition removals and your warhorn. Just know when that necro plans to pop his skill that turns conditions to you and cure it. For a condition rangers, just don’t get close.

The only class that gives me problems is a condition engineer with a shield. They have confusion and can reflect attacks. Unlike most classes, their reflect will hurt because they got high condition. If a direct damage users does it to me, I eat 300-400 direct damage and a 44 damage bleed. Nothing to worry about. The engineer also has more condition removal and can stack fire, poison, and bleeds. Basicly, there are widdling me down faster than I can widdle them down. Best just to run if he seems to know what he is doing. Good thing 99% of them don’t use condition builds anymore and aren’t very good.

There is nothing fancy to this play style. People will never complain about you being op because most of your fights are 10-15 seconds and sometimes 30 seconds. The longer the fight goes, the more it favors you.

It is extremely effective against greatsword warriors and thieves. Greatsword warrior with sword/warhorn is tricky because of the speed, but you have endure pain which is a get out of jail free card.

I used this build in PuG spvp and it worked well. In tPvP it isn’t the best. The strength of the build is it is a solo build. You don’t need to depend on people for condition removal, speed, etc. If you have a team that can provide some of that stuff, it is better to switch.

It is just a great build for WvW. Durable, hits pretty good, and you can escape a lot of gang bangs. I figured it would be weak because of a zerg vs zerg there would be a lot of condition removal, but it is not the case. I think there is so many conditions flying around that people are on cool-downs.

So, I really have to disagree, A warrior does not get destroyed. I am sure you aren’t as good as you think you are.

I like my defensively traited rifle and sword/warhorn condition warrior. People claim it sucks but I have so much success with it. Guess that is why I like it. Nothing like killing people with a kitten class.

I think rage of signet is the best elite in the game because of its short timer. Combined with rune of lyssa, I have two full condition removals, 5 second regen, an absorb shield, 5 seconds of retaliation (combined with spiked armor), as well as all the other buffs. I also get 100% swiftness up time. In fact, I can usually build 1-2 minute swiftness buffs while I roam around the map because of signet of rage. Combined with sword, I never have to worry about be caught, which is awesome if you like to play small pvp. If they ever changed elites and put them on a longer timer, I would have to stop playing a warrior and move to something else which will suck because I love having 26K-30K hps (depending on orbs), passive heals, awesome condition removal, and a ton of damage.

. I’m on Stormbluff isles, I’m used to fighting JQQ and Henge. This week we got bumped down to fight Janthir and Blackgate. They’re currently ranked 5 and 6. The difference between being in the top 3 to fighting 4-6 is huge. There is almost no resistance and extremely low player skill on those two servers.

I have to agree, BG and Janthir do well when they have the population presence. BG seems to be more of a mid day server and pretty much dominate during that time. During primetime, they seem to only have enough to fight on one map. They do quite well on that map. The other two are barren and they are not a factor.

Janthir seems to do well in fights also. Their population high/low seems more inline with Storm but they just don’t seem to have as much. In the maps where they do have a presence, they do well.

Neither server folded and kept up a good fight. Some of the best individual players I fought so far in this game have been from Janthir. I usually win 99% of my one on one’s in WvW with my totally kitten condition rifle warrior, but they had two people I fought that I could not beat. These guys would dodge at the right times, block, and had enough condition removal to render me useless. I couldn’t even out run that kitten Engineer. You know who you are

WvW is more about population that anything in this game. Winning and losing mean very little because you have no control over the population for the most part.

As far as this game dying, it never will. It is free. Sure the servers will get smaller. Those other games had big budgets and promised to much. When they didn’t produce results, they pulled the plug. That will not happen with GW2. Until someone copies the WvW, I don’t see people that like massive combat leaving.

Melee has its advantages, but also has its disadvantages. If you don’t like the disadvantages, don’t expect the game to change to meet your needs. Every class has a melee and range option. I use 4 different weapons in WvW. I use greatsword, sword/warhorn or sword/shield, longbow, and rifle. Depending on what is happening and what I want to do I switch weapons, traits, and utility skills. For example, if I am solo roaming, I want sword/warhorn and rifle. I switch me traits to 1 second immobilize and my warhorn to cure condition. If I am at a keep, I switch to longbow and sword/shield. I switch my traits to longer longbow range and more damage on fire. I will also switch to reflect with shield. If I am running supplies, I switch to sword/warhorn and greatsword. I guess what I am trying to say is you are being a square trying to get into a round hole by only playing one way. Be flexible.

I noticed if your weapons disappear, you will not be able to see the enemy. So if you go to blow your horn for swiftness but do not see it, you got the bug. Happened to me twice last night. All I had to do to fix it was relog and zone back into WvW. Guess that might be harder for some.

Ranger Vs Warrior

Usually the only way a ranger ever beats my rifle build is if I get within 600 range and fall victim to traps and bleed stacking. I kinda learned my lesson on that so I always fight at 900-1200 range. With immobilize/cripple every 8 seconds combined with 100%swiftness and leap/bullrush/remove cripple/immobilize if I have to, it is very easy to keep that distance. Longbow rangers aren’t much of a threat because my passive healing every 3 seconds is something like 1020. I can dodge rapid fire but I rather just let my retaliation tac on another 2,400 damage. They probably already hit me with hunters call and took 3,800 damage. Once my bleeds start ticking, they panic and try to get away but don’t.

There was a ranger I fought that made me think twice about what I was doing. I am thinking he was using the runes of speed because he was moving super fast. He also had a necro with him all the time and they could stack conditions super fast and get super close. They pretty much melted people so I never fought them alone, I ran like a wuss I think he hunter called with sharpen stone, switched to shortbow, hasted auto attack as he got close, then 5 poisoned, used traps. His necro friend was right behind him stacking more stuff.

Many characters would have been one shot by that 14k hit, or actually less than one shot because some classes don’t even have 14k HP unless they stack it.

You mean squishies are… squishy?

A warrior specced to do that much damage is effectively the warrior version of a squishy spec but he has far more HP and defense (and in some cases damage) than the classes that naturally have small HP pools. That is OP by itself and being able to one shot is also OP, not because they have small HP pools, but because 14k is too much and doesn’t give the player a chance to fight back. There’s no strategy involved in that.

I wonder how you’d feel if your Warrior had the 10k base HP of a Guardian/Ele/Thief, or even the 15k of an Engi/Ranger/Mesmer. That 14k would look different.

I’d feel perfectly fine if I’d also get Aegis, or stealth, or the multitudes of blinds/binds/fumbles that make other classes powerful in their own way. Stop trying to play your class like it’s a warrior and focus on what you’re good at instead.

Wow…come to thing of it, that is 90% of people’s problem. They want to play like a warrior and fail to understand why they die when they do play like one.

A necro’s greatest strength is their ability to stack conditions and convert enemy boons into conditions. In order for this warrior to do that much damage, he was stacking might. He got 4 from switching weapons (might have 8 from switching twice), justice (3x), might (5x), and rage (5x). There are maybe more but those are the most common. He had fury and swiftness up because he popped signet of rage. He might have even has some others if he had rune of lyssa.

You have at least 3 abilities that strip boons from people, two of them convert boons into conditions. Granted one is a well and probably wouldn’t be effective at range. You also have at least one daze and 3 ways to do blindness.

If you aren’t picking up some of these abilities, it is your fault. Daze would of interrupted and blindness would have caused him to miss. Then there is dodge. It was a one on one fight, if you can’t tell he was kneeling, you just a bad player.

Sorry, you lost that fight because you don’t know what you are doing.

5 signets isn’t all bad. I played around with a decent signet build. The idea was not to spend any points in precision but rather use full arms, deep strike, and heightened focus to achieve a respectable crit rate. I think with fury you get anywhere between 52%-62% at 80 (been awhile so I am not sure). That allows you to use gems like Valkyrie or carrion. I decided to go with carrion because I wanted my rifle to do decent direct damage along with condition damage. I eventually changed it because I wanted to go deep into defense and tactics. I also didn’t like having all my slots tied up with signets either (for WvW, I love having endure pain and bullrush). In the end, I gave up on pure offense but I gained a lot in defense and mobility. I always prefer to live than get big damage numbers. Seems to work because I don’t think a warrior has beaten me in one on one situations in like 3-4 weeks and the last guy to do it just got lucky

The way I see it, they are moving to a server with less WvW population during their playing times than the one they were on. That should be commended because 99% of MMOers don’t do that. They rather flock to servers with 24 hour queues.

Back to this thread. So people are mad that they are leaving? But these same people claim they weren’t good . Why are you upset or care enough to post on the forums if that is true? They are voluntarily moving to a server that has less of a population during their playing time than the one they are currently on. They are the wussies? I don’t get it.

SoS seems like it could be a very strong server if more NA players joined. So ironic because everyone is complaining about nightcapping. This server has the opposite. It gets primetime capped

Warhammer had a decent fix. Everything would be grey character models with no animations. Sometimes it took 30 seconds for everything to load but you could see everyone and react. I don’t mind everyone looking like old Atari models if it means I can see them.

Actually, you can have tons a fun solo in WvW. This is one of the most friendly solo play games out there. Just pick the size of group you want to hang with and follow them around. Helps to have a super fast class like warrior or thief.

With the current system, cut your loses and move to a better server. It will not get better. Hop around till you find one that has your type of people. You will enjoy the game a lot more. Sticking it out on a dead server because you have some sort of loyalty won’t get you anywhere. GW2 will not see any major population increase to fill those servers. The opposite will happen, GW2’s population will decline like every other MMO has 30 days after release.. The lower tier servers will get worse and should be either closed or reserved for people that have no desire what-so-ever to WvW. Pride is considered one of the seven deadly sins…..

Have a separate weekend server bracket and weekday server bracket. The weekends are clearly the most fun and the most competitive. Most gamers can go 3 days without any sleep Smaller guilds will be able to commit the time and resources on the weekends.

Lets face it, there aren’t many servers with the population to man WvW 24/7 for a week or two. For the rest of the servers, it is to much to ask. The problem is getting worse and worse as more people flock to those servers and others just quit out of frustration.

Anet, you spent way to much time making this game to have it ruined by this issue. Do and announce something.

Yeah, weekends are ET heavy. Weekdays is a much different story. They really need a weekend and weekday bracket. That would be interesting.

Level and Gear

It can be pretty significant especially if you out level your gear. You will also lack some important traits and skills. However, you can still have fun and be useful. Doing supply runs to fix that wall getting pounded on can actually help your side win the war. Keeping eyes on objectives can help. Use and help build siege. Avoid small scale battles for the time being.

Large score deficits are a disincentive to play

In hindsight, Anet really messed up with the scoring system and free transfers. The scoring system allowed people to see which servers were doing the best. The free transfer allowed people to flock to those servers. I just hope it isn’t to late to fix the problem. I really wish they would make some sort of announcement that will address the lopsided servers. If not, we can expect to see a small amount of servers 24 hour queues and the rest of the servers near empty. That would suck for such a fun game.

You would open a lot of other cans of worms. Be lucky you don’t hit more than 5 people. You would see nothing but instant deaths to AOE. Imagine how a 20 vs 20 fight would go. Imagine being a melee in that AOE. You think it is hard now being a melee. Imagine you dropped an AOE on 20 people and they had retaliation. Siege weapons would be instant kill zones. Man, I hate to think how dumb WvW would be with all the instant deaths unlimited AOE would provide.
