Only if they let our GW2 characters jump back in time to hunt her down and take her out of the picture around the same time that our GW1 characters take out Zinn’s golems
In fact if that would be the case, then we must stop her around that time, but after she sends Zinn’s golems to kill those persons.
If we travel back in time and kill her before she does, then Zinn doesn’t become relevant and ejected from Rata Sum, and as he wouldn’t be reknown he wouldn’t be recruited to help fight the Mursaat. That means either the White Mantle conquers Kryta or Livia is forced (if she had it at the time) to use the Scepter of Orr with catastrophyc consequences.
Either way the timeline is completly ruined and we create an alternate future. The White Mantle wouldn’t be in favor of an alliance with the Charr, so the 5 races wouldn’t unite, the Pact wouldn’t exist and no one would stop Zhaitan or any following Elder Dragon.
If you think about it, that someone contacted Zinn to send golems to kill those characters is a very important event for all Tyria.
PS: It could even destroy the universe in the mists, as that would destroy every possible future where there is a “us” that can travel back in time to kill her at that time, but if there is no “us”, then we can’t kill her so then there is a future where we exist, but at the same time the previous event prevented that future from happening… must play Bioshock Infinite again…

@sas I didn’t mention how P/P ends up being 33333333 because we always say it (though it was implied when I said the set offeree no team support).
I also mentioned how Black Powder is only useful for melee sets (and that combined with Body Shot being mathematically pure garbage) means you use all your initiative on 3333333 and maybe, if you catch someone glowing blue, you use 4 to interrupt a heal here and there and that’s all.
The proposed changes mean that 2 is usable and helps opening space, 3 can still be spammed but now synergizes with 1 and offers some team support through weakness, and 5 could be used at range to support your team and being useful with a ranged set (so it is worth the 6 initiative which right now it is only worth it for melee sets).
Suddenly you can effectively spend initiative in any skill without wasting it on garbage and the set has good synergy as a condition set.
Another solution would be to get rid of the stealth attacks and completly rebalance all weapon sets so half of them aren’t dependant on 115115115 for stealth skills and the other half isn’t dependant on 333333 because the other skills were though for a different weapon combination.
I think the Thief would win a lot as a profession with stealth used as utility (the initial intent) rather than a neccesity to achieve max damage potential, rebalancing each weapon set accordingly (we can also have a SA trait named backstab that increases the damage while stealthed and flanked to keep the spirit of that one alive, as stealth skills were all forced into the game only to make backstab work that way).
That’s not quite true on the bleed duration math above. It is correct given a single application you won’t see the extra tick unless you can round up to the next second. However if you are continuing to stack durations as is common in a pistol build then the quarter second boundaries that conditions are timed in will add up. +45% bleed on 4s is 5.8s so will fall out kitten -3/4 sec and every 4 shots will give 23s of damage ticks rather than 4 single applications (letting the bleed drop between) which would give 20s of damage ticks.
Except this isn’t how it works.
Each bleed has it’s own duration and it ticks separately.
If a bleed lasts 5.8 seconds, it ticks for the first 5 seconds, and disappears after extra 0.8 seconds of being active without ticking.
Each bleed is separated so if you put 5 bleeds with 5.8 seconds each, all of them will have that 0.8 seconds period where they are active but won’t tick.
If you want to add condition duration on bleeds, go for full seconds, else you’re just throwing resources for absolutely nothing that could be used on something else.
If you don’t trust me, film bleed experiments and then put them at super low speed and start counting the bleed ticks, this is how it works. Full seconds or you’re wasting resources.
iPsychO if I can recomment it, try putting your bleed duration either at +50% (you need 5% more) or reduce to 25% and reinvest in something useful. from 26 to 49% duration, the effect is exactly the same for all your Pistol Bleeds (not for the caltrops where you need either 33% or 66%, but most of your bleed damage will come from the pistol, and the dodgedrops are also 4 seconds so they benefit form 25 or 50%).
You’re better off in increasing the Condition Damage of bleed than trying to squeeze another tick from it. Extending the condition duration of a damaging condition is a waste of stats.
The OP had it right.
While I think we’ve already had this dicusssion, once you reach a good amount of condition damage, it’s much better to get extra seconds (to increase your damage by 25 or 50% even if it comes 1 or 2 seconds later but condition builds are meant to stay for a bit longer anyway) than trying to get every extra condition damage you can for +5-10% condition damage over what you already have in comparison.
If I have to chose between +5-10% damage, or +50% damage with the extra build up starting to trigger 2 seconds later (but once it does all the damage is accelerated and at the end kills much faster than that +5-10% unless that somehow that other set killed in less than 2 seconds) I chose the later. You have to take into consideration where your current condition damage is and if investing more on it will make a bigger difference over getting full extra ticks.
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
So investing trait points (and forcing you to invest on an specific trait line if you want to use P/P) just to change a skill beheaviour from condi to direct withou making it actually better, just more viable in a set? I don’t see it as a solution :S
P/P woes come from the time when they added Stealth Attacks to the game (before that Body Shot was the auto-attack applying 1 vuln per strike), but as they added those skills (that I hope some day are entirely removed from the game and the Thief is properly balanced instead of forced to specific playstyles to be effective), then they put bleed on the auto-attack as P/D would be useless otherwise, which damaged P/P synergy as we all know.
P/P main problems are the lack of synergy between the main attack and the main damage source, and how poor the cheap skill (Body Shot) is, which is mathematically garbage.
More problems would be the lack of either mobility or ways to decrease opponent mobility, and very little team support.
Something I’ve said other times in the thousand other P/P threads that I think will help solve those problems:
- Make each bullet on Unload have a 50% chance on bleeding and a 50% chance of very short Weakness. Reduce the direct damage from each bullet to compensate for the extra damage from the average of 4 bleeds. Even reducing it a little more than the average extra damage.
This way Unload synergizes with Vital Shot (making the set a condi set), and it offers team support if you keep shooting your foe (as the Weakness is very short you have to keep shooting so you can’t apply it once and switch target). Even if you’re not in a team-fight, it helps defend yourself against your target, something neccesary in a set that lacks stealth access. It also decreases opponent ability to dodge, which is one of the best ways to negate all damage from Unload.
Bleed makes sense because they’re bullets, weakness makes sense because the opponent is trying to advance through a torrent of bullets so his attacks will be hindered.
Then change Body Shot to a 130 (180 at max) range skill (so it’s actually a point blank body shot), remove all vulnerability and add a push effect (but no knock back or interrupt, only push).
This way P/P gets a mobility control skill to open distances with opponents, and as it can only be used in melee range, it doesn’t matter that you can use it multiple times as you need to cover the distance again to reuse the skill. And even then, it doesn’t interrupt your opponent, just open a distance with him, so it isn’t a hard CC and ranged foes will sniff at it, but at least helps you against heavy melee targets (perfect solution if a GS warrior manages to inmob you for example). It also is a good cover for Steal as P/P users put their life in dange when using this profession mechanic as they need to open space to survive.
Lastly, but not so neccesary if the other changes are implemented, it would be great if Black Powder was changed to ground targeted. BP is a good skill for melee Thieves, but it sucks if you use P/P and it’s not worth the 6 initiative in any imaginable way. Making it ground target helps with the Thief ability to support his team which is something P/P needs.
All this thrown together would make a good set, with identity (conditions) and options for team support, and not OP as for everything you change, yo take back something, like most of the direct damage from Unload, or making sure the new Body Shot can’t be abused with initiative by making it melee and not an interrupt. Maybe there are those that want a ranged direct damage set… that would be great for a future rifle as dual weapons are easier to balance as you don’t have to take into consideration weapon combinations and dual skills (P/P is so bad because of P/D).
iPsychO if I can recomment it, try putting your bleed duration either at +50% (you need 5% more) or reduce to 25% and reinvest in something useful. from 26 to 49% duration, the effect is exactly the same for all your Pistol Bleeds (not for the caltrops where you need either 33% or 66%, but most of your bleed damage will come from the pistol, and the dodgedrops are also 4 seconds so they benefit form 25 or 50%).
I think, as that letter was sent in the real world to companies, that it’s kind of “a mix” of tyrian facts and real world dates. Like the character from inside the game warns the players from the real world, and that was used to rhyme the poem with that date.
Plot twist! Mr. E is Faren!
The truth of Kasmeer going to Southsun was to contact E, and that’s why she defended Faren when she calls him a pain.
We already know that Faren doesn’t like corruption in the Ministry, and he’d have good access to such information, unlike Kasmeer’s family that has fallen on hard times.
While it seems like just a joke… I personally think that it would be super awesome if Faren resulted being faking that he fakes to be skilled and corageous but actually being it with all the fake faking being his cover.
He is there for the Kasmeer presentation (and with her working as detective it makes sense that she was there investigating something) and the attack on the Pavillion.
He doesn’t strike me as the guy that is described on Marjory’s story as Mr.E (though that kind of fancy wordplay nickname could fit him, and it’s confirmed it’s a wordplay and not the name letter as for example in spanish he is Mr.Io for “misterio”), but if he is faking that he fakes (I’m loving saying that now :P) all his personallity and skills, it could be like that.
The only problem is that Marjory never sees Mr.E, so I don’t think she would know who Kasmeer should meet or even that he is a noble, and that if he covered his identity to Marjory, I don’t think he would present himself in the middle of the beach to Kasmeer.

@Shiren
There are only 2 ways all those things can happen (well, some of them can be touched without affecting Personal Story in fact):
- What I mentioned about the world being changed and Personal Storyline being presented as “flashbacks”.
- With an expansion so all that can happen in “Personal Storyline”.
Intanced Story and Open World story can’t make each other drastically change, that’s a golden rule on game design (I’m talking from the perspective of someone ending his VG desgin and development studies, and there are a huge lot of examples out there, including the first GW). If you kill PS major characters in the open world, everyone either new to the game, starting a character from that race or doing story for the first time would be really confused and nothing will make sense at all.
Basically either a mega update changes the world to the next iterarion and PS becomes flashbacks like when our GW1 chracters tried to complete early level missions from a continent where they weren’t born (and it is too soon for making the main storyline “part of the past”, also probably with so much time spent on monthly content they didn’t have time to expend on changing the whole world), or we get an expansion (which in part would also cause the other scenario).

I know Scarlet is a sylvari but in a Tyria where the 5 races are pretty much equal why wouldn’t a sylvari be allowed to become a member of the Court?
It’s certainly a fun idea.Impossible, Silvari have only been awake for 2 generations; the First Borns, and us. Somewhere on the wikia it probably states how many years ago that the Silvari emerged, but its relatively recent, as within the last ten years or so recent, which is long after the Mad King was alive.
There has been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than 2 generations. Our Sylvari characters aren’t so special. Firstborn were born more than 2 decades ago.
I’ve said this other times, the Queen is inmune to death:
- Characters from Personal Storyline can’t die in the open world or the living story or it would be really confusing to have them there when “current events” say they’re dead.
- Characters that appear in the real world can’t die as part of the personal storyline as seeing them around when you just saw their death in your story would be really confusing.
That’s why certain beloved characters or Zhaitan only appear in story instances for example, so they can be killed there without causing confusion when you see them walk around in the open world. Same happened to GW1 characters that died or simply where on the move all the time, you always had to go outside of outposts to instanced areas to talk to them for quests.
The Queen fits both conditions, so basically she can’t be killed anywhere unless the game as a whole gets a super update (changing the state of the world in ways that contradict Personal Storyline, like Orr being cleansed) with the Personal Story becoming a “flashback of what happened before all of this” thing, but so far I doubt they’re going on that direction.
I though they already did a stealth nerf to make that fight more challenging?
I (and probably every single GW1 player) created all my characters on day one because I though they were going to continue that trend of gifts randomly giving miniatures that would fluctuate in the market. I use my main character most of the time (only another character is lvl 80, I have to play them a bit more), but I though it would be good to receive my 5 presents the same day.
Of course free stuff is ok but… with this system the old and fun GW1 concept is gone and it feels bad. 5 Queen Jennahs aren’t better than 1 (specially for my 4 non-human alternate characters), not to mention the already mentioned cases with so many alternate characters.
Will we be able to throw them to the Mystic Forge at least to get an Exotic Mini?
Well at least that covers the gauntlet (though “as part of the activity rotation” sounds strange as it isn’t exactly like the other activites).
But it will still be good to hear if the others will return. I have most of them completed (except Mad King Tower) but it will be nice to know in each case if people will be able to get them if they couldn’t, and if those that already got them will have to repeat them next time.
Edit: Also, something important that is related to what I’m saying.
Queen’s Gauntlet will return, possibly as part of the activity rotation or even other events. In any case, you’ll be able to complete those achievements at a later date.
Please note that it’s very important that the achievements done later should be retroactively assigned to the Gauntlet tab. We don’t want a new tab with new achievements like you did for crab toss and other activities.
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
It has been said that this event will be recurring, same than the Halloween, Wintersday, Super Adventure Box or Dragon Bash event.
But I have to ask some things related to the way achievements work for those events.
For all those events, there were achievements related to the event itself, and to the story of that particular iteration of the event (exception being SAB and the Gauntlet that was separated from the Queen’s Jubilee section, in both cases all achievements are all about the game).
Now, a lot of people when someone uses the “hard AND temporal shouldn’t be together” argument, they respond that “it’s going to be recurring”. But how much of it will be recurring?
Will achievements (and their specific rewards), for event related stuff on each recurring event, return? Things like all the SAB achievements, the jumping puzzles on Halloween and Wintersday and all the event related inner mini-games or pumpkin/snowmen/piñata/burning effigy/hot air balloons achievements that weren’t specifically part of the story progress or all of the Gauntlet achievements and their rewards (given as it works like SAB in the sense that you progress each level).
And if they return, if we already completed them in the previous iteration, they will be marked as completed in the new iteration? For example, if we completed all achievements for all levels of SAB, will they return for those that didn’t get them, and be marked as completed for us that made them?
Same with the other events. If we completed the Gauntlet, will those achievements return for the next iteration so those that didn’t get them can complete them, but those who completed them already have them marked as completed? Same for all the other events, as in many cases there were story achievements and event achivements so those ones are trickier to separate.
I think this information will be really useful to know if we will be able to complete the Mad King Tower, if we will have to do 50 dances in front of burning efigies and destroy 150 piñatas again or it will be marked as completed, or if someone doesn’t have enough time/preparation/skill for Liadri, he will be able to get that pretty shadow miniature next year or everything will be changed.
If some dev can answer this we will be thankful because we really don’t know how much “recurring” everything is from each event
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
Ok thanks. I knew it was “around 4 and 2 weeks” but I didn’t stop to realize it’s exactly 4 and 2 weeks with releases always on tuesdays.
Anyway it would be good if they post the dates so when the day comes they stop following that rule, we’re not surprised.
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
The Crown Pavilion
should beis in the game until September 3rd.EDIT: Sorry for the choice of words. And yes there will be another Living World release on the 20th.
Ok thanks for that to you for finding that post (where it was btw?) and to Anthony for giving the date too, then I have until September 3rd for this and whatever comes the 20th
I think they should always post the end dates for things since day 1 of each Living Story update, so devs don’t have to go to the forums and clarify it. As it is temporal content, having that information is really valuable.
2 weeks from this tuesday.
You have the source? That would make this just 3 weeks, against their regular 4 weeks, then add 2 weeks event in adition during the last half of the first event scheme they seemed to be following lately. It makes sense though as it will be the anniversary, but Dragon Bash was still active during Sky Pirates and I think the anniversary is the continuation of this one.
I’ve been looking around and I can’t find the last day this content will be available. I’m planning to pospone some of the achievements as I have a lot of things to do this summer, but I want to know how much time I have left to complete them
Livia is supposedly the new leader to the Shining Blade, who are allies to Lion’s Arch, and probably also to Queen Jennah. Does not make sense for her to be Scarlet.
I think you’re mixing facts from 250 years ago and today.
Livia was named 250 years ago the leader of the Shining Blade (when the previous leader was named leader of the seraph at the end of the War in Kryta story), that became the bodyguards of queen Salma after fighting the White Mantle during the war.
They weren’t “allies of Lion’s Arc”, Lion’s Arc was Kryta’s capitol and they were the bodyguards of Kryta’s queen, so basically it was their capitol, not their allied city.
Currently Countess Anise is the leader of the Shining Blade, and they’re still bodyguards to the queen (Jenah in this case). Lion’s Arc is no longer considered part of their domain, though that city is allied with all good races.
Livia is dead, the only way for her to still be alive is in undead/lich form (and there is a chance for that as she found the Scepter of Orr). Note: Apparently in the Sea of Sorrow’s book her fate is mentioned, but I haven’t read it yet (not released in my country), so I can’t say what really happened but someone could. But even if she stayed alive, Anise and not Livia is the current leader of the Shining Blade.
Personally I like the new Komalie dagger, both for lore and for the cool skin. I’m thinking about replacing my Ebonhawke dagger with it.
I would love to see a dagger skin looking like this: http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/2/2c/Underworld-ArmBlade-1.jpg/600px-Underworld-ArmBlade-1.jpg
It may be difficult to get as some of the rotation animations like Cloak and Dagger should be ignored for it, but it is doable and most of the attack animations fit if you imagine a blade in that position (and the throw dagger skills can move the arm the same way and just throw a blade).
But there are some nice daggers out there.
No daggers version of vision of the mists.
Vision of the mists set comes from the weapons that Mesmer phantasms use. There isn’t a mesmer wielding daggers.
The other “phantasmal” set is based on Guardian’s summoned weapons.

While my daltonism still lets me spot the circles, I have a lot of trouble identifying which circles will benefit me and which ones will kill me in many situations, so I’m 100% in for a “select colors for each circle” feature.
@Fancia, I don’t think we’re crippled (in fact, daltonism is just a different way to see colors, and while we see less from X, we see more from Y, we’re the “different ones” because we’re less, if we were more they would be the “handicaped ones” and while it has negative aspects in specific things from everyday life, there are some advantages like being inmune to typical camouflages and daltonics have been used in wars for that purposse for example), but it is true that as we are the minority, there are many color related things that don’t take in consideration how we will see them and it could cause some problems (I remember another game where I had to hit blue things and avoid purple ones and I simply couldn’t know which ones I should avoid, then for example in real life we can’t be pilots because someone decided to use a universal color scheme for signals that we can’t use).
I’m not sure how your specific case of not seeing a full color entirely works or if it is related to daltonism, but I think if there is something that may handicap us in one way or another (in this case because it has been made taking in consideration the most commonly seen color spectrum in society) against other players, and there is a way to solve it and benefit everyone without damaging anyone, why not getting it? Why opposing it with such a passion? I won’t feel insulted getting this feature, I’ve never felt crippled, I know it isn’t even something bad, just something working differently which causes some specific problems as society sees differently, but that’s all, at the end I see as much as them, only differently. If there is something that can help me, I will be all in for that.
If you can accept that, you shouldn’t feel insulted by someone helping you because they didn’t take your case in consideration in the first place (is a vegetarian insulted by someone adding some vegetables to their initially only meat based menu? I know vegetarians chose to be that way, but I think you can get the point and some of them are basically psychically blocked to consume meat in fact), there is no insult or someone looking down to you like you’re inferior on that, and if you really think that way I’m sorry but it’s possible you might have some serious self-steem issues (and I don’t meant this as a personal attack, feeling like others think they’re superior to you just because they’re helping you I think is considered a symptom for this). I even feel superior to others in some ways (being inmune to most camouflages is really cool!)
I remember during Canach’s fight that if I wasn’t directly looking to the mines to see the color changing, I would have a really hard time knowing which mines were deactivated and which ones were ready and I would’ve loved some feature to change their colors. In fact, back then I started a daltonism thread about that instance.

To what I just said, I want to add that new mini-game related achievements should either be part of dailies, or completed in a max time of half an hour of playing the game.
This way you get players to experience the mini-game, but if he doesn’t enjoy it, you don’t keep him for hours in that game. For example, while I liked the “hunger games in southsun cove” mini-game, I didn’t want to spend 8 hours on it just because someone decided 2500 was a right number of points for an achievements (when you compare the time it takes for that one compared with the crystals one it’s terrible, and I think the other one should’ve been shorter to get too).
If you want to keep players on your new mini-games, simply put a cool reward (cooler than a backpiece that are starting to get too common and not everyone will like all of them) at the end of it that they can get benefit from so if they like the game they keep playing and they can get rewards while doing what they enjoy. Or simply make playing them as rewarding as farming so they keep getting benefit while being in the game.
As I said people that don’t like the mini-games shoudn’t be forced to spend SO MANY hours on them. Half an hour is more than enough to see if you like the game or not (and it’s more or less the time it takes to complete the PvP daily). One thing is to make achievements for the living story, and another is to make people play for hours they can’t afford on games they might not even like (as I said I liked them, but I wouldn’t spend so much time on them specially without good enough rewards).
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
I agree, it’s getting really exhausting and it’s starting to feel like work even more than real life work.
I simply can’t afford time for all this new achievements and rewards.
I’m speaking from the perspective of a God Walking Among Mere Mortals with 50 HoM points, all of GW1 Elite Areas completed and all the 33 GW1 special weapons including the 11 Torment Weapons, so it isn’t like I’m a casual player and it should be hard to burn me with more achievements.
The pace of Living Story throwing hundred of achievements our way (and many of them I think destroy the concept of an achievement, like doing X sexy dances in front of random burning trees around the world for no benefit at all, many of them feeling a lot like the “kill 10 rats” they wanted to avoid in a greater scale) is incredibly exhausting.
I know we’re not “forced” to do them, but many of us like to complete stuff, and those achievements, that are starting to feel like task lists with short deadlines, are supposedly what the designers though you should do to really experience the content they’re giving you, and there are also some good rewards that you miss if you pass.
Then, aditionally there are important things about the story that if you simply can’t play, you miss, and then the story starts evolving and you missed part of it (and that’s not mentioning new players), which, as others mentioned, could generate a lost of interest from many players (I think the Hall of Monuments pool could be used to revive parts of it, as it’s a place that allowed to see visions and currently no one goes there anymore except for recently created characters to pick skin A or B and forget it again, which is a shame for a place like the Eye of the North).
Apparently this system of keep throwing task lists to players is what their studies told them would generate more players playing the game and more revenue or they wouldn’t use it (though I think that even in that case, in the long term that system will burn all those players and backfire, and I’m saying this as a GWAMM so it should be hard to burn me and they’re starting to do it).
I think during Flame and Frost the pace was about right (they used 3 months for the whole thing, that gave plenty of time for players to keep up with the story and take their time to complete achievements instead of rushing them before the deadline comes).
I really apreciate that they’re working this much in the game, but I would like those resources directed to something else to slow the pace of things. This is getting exhausting, and while it can work to keep players always in the game, we’re getting burned and it can be very dangerous in the long term. When we stop working hard in real life, we don’t want to work hard for deadlines in our games.
I try to be a completionist, but since the Aetherblade Retreat patch, there has been some achievements that I have left undone simply because I didn’t have enough time for them with all the real life projects I have to do (specifically the hard achievements on the dungeon as all the parties I had time to go with failed to get the achievements, and I only completed 6 from Kiel’s category, though somehow I decided that sacrificing sleep time to get all of Evon’s category achievements was a good idea). Right now I’m still deciding what to do with this new task list from Queen’s Jubilee.
Please slow down the pace. We apreciate the effort but we can’t keep up.
To quote Linkin Park:
“You can’t run the race, the pace is too fast, you just won’t last”
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
….facepalm at Racial reasonings Wow, join the group of people who say Kiel won cause she has boobs why don’t you….
Except that’s an extremly different case? (and for the record, I’m an Evon supported but I don’t think she won because of boobs, if she has something to add to her extremely boring personallity is that she is the opposite of a sexualized character and her giant hologram looks like Michael Jackson, so it wasn’t because of that).
Plenty of people admitted they weren’t going to vote for “a cow”.
Humans are by faaaaaaaaaaaaar the most played race. It has been demonstrated in many games that the less human-like a race is, the less popular they are among players (I think this is why Wildstar is putting humans on both factions of that game).
If Evon’s opponent would’ve been an Asura (which would’ve made sense given how Kiel wants to research an asuran incident and the waypoint things is managed by an Asura in the council), then it would’ve been an even fight (there are people that love Asuras, but then there are people that hates them with passion like others hate Charr).
Making a human face a charr and make a playerbase that massively chose human playable race decide which one to vote was really unfair. Add that Evon was always portrayed like shaddy and creepy (and that was all the cutscenes he has ever appeared in, so that was all the info players that never spoke to him before got), and that he was seen as the way players had to punish RNG (and I don’t understand the logic behind that) and that character simply can’t win. Specially when there was a huge sector of the playerbase that didn’t really know what voting each one would imply as most of the clear information was on the internet instead of the game.
That he still got 48% of the votes means that if it was Kiel offering Evon’s promises (and it would’ve made sense that a human tried to research on the most important fight human gods had), she would’ve curbstomped him, probably getting 80% or even 90% of the votes. It also means that if he would’ve been a human, he would have destroyed Ellen Kiel no matter if she “got boobs” or not.
I liked that they made us choose the game’s destiny, but the combination of Evon presentation to the players and the lack of better direct to the point in-game info meant Kiel was going to win.
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
I didn’t really have an opinion on this until people started getting up in arms about it. Reminds me distastefully of real-life religious zealotry. Guess what, human culture is not, nor should be, solely about the gods. In fact, the official stance on this, as laid out by Angel Leigh McCoy in an interview (http://esprits-dorr.fr/node/261), is that the human gods are less important to the people than ever.
Except in this case, it’s very different from real life religions. Human gods are not the creationist type of gods, they were the guys that brought humanity to Tyria (and yes, humans are aliens on Tyria) and are the ones that gave them power to compete with everyone else.
Tyrian humans would’ve been wiped out without the gods helping them. Even if the gods are now absent from Tyria, many humans can use powers granted by them (like racial skills).
They aren’t the kind of real life religion that you believe if you have faith. They are the guys that made humanity what they are today and everyone in Tyria knows that, no matter if they have faith or not on them.
The guys angry about that change aren’t religious zealots, they simply love lore and it makes very litle sense for humanity to destroy what makes them special and replace it with a premium mini Lion’s Arc.
I agree with many others that there were more available spots for that new terrace, and still can (probably should) be moved there.
In fact in the first place I can think of other places where the whole new area could’ve been without completly destroying the possibility of the Canthan district oficially returning to the lore (and there are many ingame dialogues implying the existence of a Canthan district, though they don’t say where, given how all districts from other nations are lined there, it was the likely location). Now they have “oficially” written the lore of the zone to be the old arts district (which could’ve been the Canthan district at the same time, but they negated it) and replaced by this. That the Balthazar’s shrine was there made even more sense due to the Zaishen order being related with canthans.
I guess they made it like a symbol of building something glorious in a place that was completly destroyed to prove humanity’s worth, but I still would’ve liked for them to wait a bit more until the asian architecture issues or whatever it was were solved to make a proper Canthan district.
Martin just out of curiosity: Is the mysterious hooded sylvari (scarlet I guess) leading the attack voiced by the same actress than Countess Anise? There was a moment where both had near consecutive lines (with one quote from Rox in the middle) and they sounded really close to each other to me (only with the sylvari sounding more flirteous).

Well this is interesting. Though I’m not sure if non-asura characters, specially Norn characters, fit the bill for the sovereign. It would be interesting, but I think it’s going to be Scarlet.
The steam creatures have to be a hint for something though, maybe they’re trying to replicate them (and it’s true that most events are tech related). Maybe even Kiel’s new fractal will be related to all of this if it ends up tearing reality.
Wasn’t there a dev post that we will see someone familiar from the Lost Shores, but this time with different name? I assumed that mysterious stranger was this person under new name, because I didn’t see any other new NPCs or did I miss something?
Canach used a total makeover kit and a name change contract and now is Scarlet! :O

During the opening ceremony, I waited for all dialogues and when Rox mentioned “you just said Kuh-Bam” I was a bit confused as Braham didn’t say it, then they had their dialogue about it.
Later rewatching my filmed gameplay I realized that when the pirates arrived Braham finished their run to the fight dialogue with the Kuh-Bam shout.
It really looks like there is some script error and that dialogue about the Kuh-Bam expresion should have happened after Braham shouting it instead of before.
Not temporary. This is recurring content.
You can try again next year.
While it’s recurring, there are high chances the achievement rewards will change in future instances (same with Halloween, Wintersday or the Dragon Bash), so he can complain about not being able to get that mini.
I haven’t tried this yet so I can’t judge how hard it is, but I’ve said many times that hard content is fine, temporal content is fine, but hard temporal content is not. The mini looks very good and it would be a pity to miss the chance to get it.

According to the audio files in case Evon won, Kiel would’ve joined Lion’s Arc Air Force.
Now that would’ve been a much better development for her than sitting behind a desk seconding everything boss Magnus tells her.
There was a lot more story potential for that case, Evon doing something big in the council (Kiel is unlike to do anything noticeable at all as she’s there to give Magnus a second vote and she doesn’t have money to fund progress and ideas) and Kiel commanding the air force with potential for some awesoma battles and finally some character development for her to have a personality of her own instead of being Robin to Magnus Batman.
Really guys, everything would’ve been GREAT for both, Evon and Kiel if you would’ve voted Gnashblade!!
(not to mention the super mary sue-ish “I won in so many other ways!” quote that Kiel says if she loses… please! why can’t we have a guy with some personality of his own like Evon winning??)
Yeah congratulations to Ellen and most importantly congratulations to Magnus, the guy that will make all her decissions and that virtually got 2 votes breaking the council balance, not getting funds to replace Theo Ashford’s money as Kiel is just an employee and more militar representation in the government of a city that will progress slowly with less funds… that story sounds really familiar and it doesn’t tend to end well…
I’ve found on reddit the sound files for Evon speech in case he won… but that surprised me because I haven’t heard Kiel’s speech!!
Where can I find it in game?
I honestly think this wasn’t rigged, but as I said other times, they always presented Evon as a shaddy character from the beginning while Kiel was a known ally.
There was a lot of misinformation inside the game (most of us that knew how everything worked knew it because of the internet). I saw a HUGE LOT of people that didn’t know what was happening on my server and we did the best we could to explain them what was happening and what to do, or they didn’t know what each candidate would offer (the first mail from each one didn’t specify it, and many players didn’t even know how to find them in person in the first place).
So misinformation+cutscenes showing Evon as a shaddy kitten… and you have a significative percentage of voters going for Kiel. I’m not saying this was done on pourpose, but I would’ve liked a more balaned presentation for both and some more direct aproach to ingameinformation (like the candidates listing all their promises in the mail they send you so everything is clear from point one). Given how this is something that affects the future of all of us (the informed and the not so well informed), it could have been nice.
Because this is basically what means Kieal’s victory. Captain Magnus has 2 votes and the Council one member less.
Magnus is Kiel’s boss and alse her childhood hero, so she will always follow his instructions.
And add to that, Kiel isn’t wealthy. Theo Ashford was wealthy. Evon was wealthy, but Kiel isn’t and she is replacing Theo Ashford seat, which means waaaaaaaay less foundings for Lion’s Arc progress.
Less foundings and extra votes to the leader of the militar formation of the city… yeah, that always ends well!!
I have nothing against Magnus and he is a good character, but with less foundings come less progress and people getting angrier, and now the council has double the chances to decide to use the Lionguard to stop angry people…
I really really hope the Thaumanova reactor is great, because if this follows logical course (and less money plus more militar power, even when militar leaders are good hearted, usually follows that course) the real Tyria will be a mess with no progress and militars everywhere (probably not happening as they picture them as super good guys, but in the real world that’s what would happen).

Just as we are getting closer to the vote countings (I think I’ve read the candidate will be anounced the 5th and the event will end the 6th) I want to know some things:
- What’s the final hour to place votes for each candidate? Just to know so I make sure to place them instead of continuing acumulating tokens when it’s not worth it.
- What happens to each one mini-game during that day where the event is still active but one of them has been chosen? Will they still be there so we can access the area? Will they leave the area? I’m asking because I’m trying to get the final achievements for the mini-games (I couldn’t before, I had to work a huge lot and the 2500 points for survival alone is a time consuming pain) and I want to know if I have to prioritize them.
- Will we be able to complete “do this while representing Evon or Kiel” achievements during the last day when one of them has been elected?
Basically I want to know when is the deadline and what achievements will still be available once the voting deadline is over.
I need to know this soon as there is little time left. Thanks in advance

It’s interesting how humans are developing their own tech, with their own “personality” thrown to that (they already had some watchwork mechanism like the planetary, so they had experience with this). It seems like while Uzolan proved to be a traitor to the crown, it’s very possible that some of his tech was studied here.
It’s a good visual contrast to Charr steam tech and Asura magi-tech.

Queen Jennah is basically inmune to death.
She is involved in personal storyline and it would be confusing to kill her outside the personal storyline.
She is part of the open world, so killing her in the personal storyline and then seeing her in the open world would be confusing too (the 3 mentors for example were designed to be found on instanced content, same as many GW1 characters).
For example, Caudecus isn’t the boss in his own dungeon because if you killed him there, it would create confusion in your human personal storyline.
The conclussion is that if you kill her either in personal storyline or living story/open world, it creates a lot of confussion which makes her virtually invulnerable. At best she could be kidnapped (again).
More than every profession, I would like to know if players geared for all roles (support and control included) would be able to complete it or only DPS guys or super tanks will be able to finish.
If your character is geared and built for supporting others, and you are doing solo content, it’s going to be rough. That being said, having a well balanced character is pretty important; not just for Queen’s Gauntlet but in general. I keep the gear to swap playstyles on my character, and generally a respec is pretty cheap and easy even at 80.
Ok thanks for the answer. I play support while still doing a very fair amount of damage (not as much as some super DPS builds, but good damage). If it doesn’t work I can always use my secondary tank character, but I hope I can complete it with my main character
Burning (or short-ranged pushback) on Body Shot. Directional Evade on Unload. Make Ricochet either:
- 100%
or…- 50% for 1st bounce, then 25% for a second.
This should then cement P/P as a solid ranged option.
I agree with changing body shot to a short range only push (not knock back, just push with no interrupt and as it would be short range and a push you can’t abuse it with spammability) and I’ve sugested it before too. It would be great to compensate for the lack of movement skills on P/P.
But we can’t have Burning on a weapon skill. Thanks to the initiative system, that has its positives and negatives, and this is one of the negatives, we can’t have burning or long duration CCs on weapon skills as if we spam them, they’re too powerful (a Burning equals to applying 8 bleeds, and if the opponent cleans it, thanks to spammability you can put it on again).
Something I’ve suggested before that would help defining P/P identity (as right now it’s a bad mix of condition damage on auto-attack and direct damage on main source of damage that you use all the time), in adition to changing Body Shot to a short range push:
Make each bullet of the 8 fired by Unload have a 50% chance to apply bleeding, and the other 50% to apply short duration weakness. Reduce the direct damage of each shot based on the potential extra damage from half a bleed per shot.
This way Unload goes in line with the main attack, defining P/P as a condition set, and in adition it adds support to a set that currently lacks any support (as Black Powder is efficent mostly with melee sets) and you can protect a bit yourself and your group in dungeons by applying weakness while attacking.
Both changes would add some way to put a distance between your foe and yourself (and by casting Body Shot while stealing you could help with the problem P/P users have with their profession mechanic making them super vulnerable), make your main damage source synegize with your auto-attack and add some defensive utility to the set.
This way, in my honest opinion, the set would be perfect without being OP. It will be a viable option to use in any kind of content and more fun to play than 333333333 for just decent to mediocre damage with zero team utility.

In testing we ensured that every profession can complete the gauntlet.
More than every profession, I would like to know if players geared for all roles (support and control included) would be able to complete it or only DPS guys or super tanks will be able to finish.
I agree, mostly because of achievements.
At this point all those time consuming (and in some cases hard like the aetherblade dungeon ones) on a very limited time (2 weeks is nothing) feel like work. In fact I was (and I am) in the middle of a lot of work and despite I am a completionist (GWAMM in GW1) I had to left the dungeon ones undone. Now I have a lot of work to do too and I’m thinking about leaving all of Kiel’s achievements undone because I have timw for only one of the candidates and I really want to complete all content but I can’t.
The way they’re rushing living story and adding a huge lot of achievements that you have just 2 weeks to complete is ridiculous. If you’re gone for a secons you miss a lot of content. Making you work toward a tasklist on a very limited time frame (lack of time+long or hard content is the main point) feels like going to work instead of playing a game.
Again, I was a GWAMM and I have no problem with hard and time consuming tasks. The problem is when they’re on a limited time frame.
For starters I would erradicate all the “do this x times” achievements (this was one of the things they wanted to avoid, and it makes no sense to make me perform a sexy dance in front of a lot of burning efigies that gives no benefit just because it’s an achievement).
I would eliminate all the minigame achievements too. If you want everyone to try all the minigames, puy a nice reward on them, but forcing people to try all minigames (I like a lot many of them, but not all) and spend a lot of hours (the amount of points for some of them is crazy, forcing you to play them multiple hours that you can’t afford, they should be done in 20 minutes at much, so only the ones that like them stay on the minigame) on them is a bad way to add achievements too.

I have over 200k karma on a character…does that mean i can now use the 200k karma with my other characters? :O
Correct. All currencies in the wallet will be account bound.
This is great too! Didn’t though about it affecting account Karma too
They already said they were going to do this (I think in an interview with Colin).
I think the objective is to make everyone go to all dungeons instead of stiking to path1 (and everytime anyone would ask for “path1” you knew it was for CoF even if other dungeons have a path1 too).
The portal is a one-time use consumable that effectively allows you to use a skill that is similar to the mesmer’s portal. We recognize that it’s a very powerful item, so the recipe is quite rare and takes considerable resources to manufacture.
One use only with rare materials?
At least there are plans to introduce similar mechanics in other professions skills? Mesmers are the most wanted profession at Jumping Puzzles and WvW because of their unique skill, I was hoping for it to become more universal with this item (and in adition to being so valuable for community teamwork over maps, it’s the only case where only one profession can do something).
(edited by Lokheit.7943)
The currency wallet will not have the 250 stack limit. Currencies in the wallet will behave in the same manner that gold and karma do currently.
This is great, really needed, thanks guys!
I don’t think any character that appears in Personal Storyline will be killed outside Personal Storyline.
As you can complete events in the Living Story before the Personal Storyline, it would be really confusing, so I doubt they will kill her, Anisse or any important character from there (and I think this is exactly why Caudecus wasn’t the boss we had to kill in his own dungeon).
Will it work like mesmer’s portal? It will be great if all players can port others to jumping puzzles. I only hope it isn’t too expensive or rare to get (both recipe and components) as Mesmers only need a utility skill, but it’s a great direction to make all players able to do everything (the portal was the biggest difference maker a profession had that no one else could use).
Just when I was going crazy with all those token and thousands of WvW badges and my characters couldn’t hold anything else they announce this with each token being its own currency! Yay!
Thank you a-net for this, it was a real need. Btw, as this is a “wallet”, will it allow to store more than 250 of each token like with laurels and karma right?
Well. the ones in Tp can easily be from the BL chests scraps. Those I’ve seen to drop..
And what I really like to know is how to get then from trials.. the loot drop from each 10 pirates? From any tier? I really don’t understand how it works..
They’re different. You can see weapons with carrion stats, that are the ones dropped from the trials, and then “skins” with no stats that are from the chests, so there are dropped weapons in the trading post.
Maybe the “represent” token wasn’t active in the moment you got the “ending” chest? I think it’s the part that counts.
