I don’t play the game any more (due to the story being gated by masteries and the huge decline in WvW population due to WvW players playing PvE) but I would like to know what masteries I will need to have to do the raids so I can decide if its worth farming for them before the raids are released.
Just wait until raids are released so that you actually know which masteries are required. It looks like Anet wants to keep the requirements as secret as possible in a desperate attempt to keep people grinding out masteries (in order to retain player population numbers).
Do you really want to grind out masteries that turn out to be unnecessary?
Auto upgrades, in its current implementation it simply encourages more blobbing and ktraining, then ever before because it becomes a more valuable strategy as small guild/havok teams become essentially shut out of the new wvw.
No it really doesn’t. Some of your points are valid, like the complaint about +5. But auto upgrades discourages ktraining because it makes it easier for a small force to defend against an unorganised larger force and if all they’re there for is the ktrain you can even make them leave the map completely. However a smaller force can only delay a determined and organized larger force. Which is how it should be.
Without auto upgrades, a small force trying to recap their BL that was lost during a dead coverage period will likely leave everything as paper until the enemy ktrain comes back simply because they don’t have anyone to spare to babysit upgrades. With auto upgrades those objectives will get stronger the longer you hold them even without any babysitting. So now, by the time the enemy ktrain comes back you likely have at least cannons and oil and if you’re lucky you may also have reinforced walls. Which gives you a chance to fight back.
Now during a dead coverage period, the bigger server can easily T3 everything with little to no effort.
- It can pick a couple towers and karma train while keeping one eye on these towers.
- Initially, if you try to take them back, they quickly hit you.
- But once the towers start getting upgrades, it becomes progressively harder for you to take them back, and they can be much more casual in responding. The bugged gate and wall upgrades and lack of +5 certainly doesn’t help your small group ninja the towers back.
- Once they’re T3, you have zero chance of taking them back.
- And then they pick two more of your towers.
They don’t need to spend any gold, babysit any camps or dolyaks, or really even be around at all once upgrades start rolling in.
They won’t get rid of it because it’s their solution to upgrade trolling. They don’t wish to put any actual man hours into dealing with that… thus the autoupgrade fail mechanic.
the old map with the new mechanic will be the same problem…. It’s not only the map… It’s all around…
True. WvW will still be in a bad state, but at least it’ll less so with the new map deleted.
The reason for nerfing dungeons was to discourage players from playing them. So why would they now add rewards back?
you don’t get credit for helping other guilds in their missions… you never have.
You do, and it’s been like that for a long time. I’m sure someone has had it work even more recently, but I did a guild rush two weeks ago (the one in Lornar) with another guild and got credit.
But it seems certain rushes are bugged: the Quaggan one, and I believe the devourer one have very frequently not given credit (even long before HoT).
for (specifically) the Quaggan rush when your guild was not the one who started it.
Its a fair decision to disable slaying and night. Ive never liked what those do. They force you to get hundreds of different versions of the same weapons/pots just to min/max. This is a welcome change.
They could make sigils unlockable like skins. That’d remove the need for different versions of the same weapons. It’d make sense too from a stat changing perspective since losing your sigil can be a massive disincentive to stat change.
Of course, this would benefit the player; Anet, not so much.
Something easily obtained in the previous version is now going to be a grindwars2 to get to.
It’s worse than that. Something that you already unlocked is now inaccessible unless you buy HoT; and even if you do, you have to unlock it again.
So Mr. Kuru, you’re saying I should delight, with glee, my ability to solo hold off a 30- blob?
Jana it my guilt complex. If it’s easy for me to do alone, it feels unfair.
Yes, you should delight with glee… Because if they ever fix this upgrade-on-top-of-upgrade bug, walls and gates will melt much faster than they do now and you’ll be scrambling to hit those gathering nodes before they run you over.
Gate and wall hp is significantly increased (at least in EB.. probably BLs also) because gate/wall upgrades are currently stacking on top of each other. If this ever gets fixed, gates and walls will be much weaker than they are now.
No, actually people don’t need DC protection in this game, I can guarantee you that 99% of the issues with people DC’ing is either OOM or something goes wrong with packet loss in the route between the ArenaNet servers and the persons computer.
What does it matter who’s fault it is when someone DCs? It’s a fact of life that DCs are a very common occurrence and so they should be accounted for in the game code. Especially in a situation where the alternative means you wake up dead: losing all credit and perhaps causing a team wipe.
I’m fine with raids being insurmountable except for highly skilled, organised guild groups, just so long as they change the TD meta to be more accessible (or even just more awesome)
You guys are fooling yourselves, i.e… under estimating the human ability to adjust and adapt. Within 3-6 months pug groups are gonna be speed running that stuff. :-)
It’s going to be much faster than that. Three months max, probably two. And only that long because rewards are weekly so people will only do them weekly, which means it’ll take a while before players become experienced. Time-gating at its best.
Actually, this might be a good idea for repopulating the lower tiers. It gives players great incentive to transfer in order to get back the old BLs.
Why does bronze get to have all the fun? Give it back to everyone.
These aren’t dungeons. If someone dc’s you’re probably going to wipe and have to start all overy again anyway. If you dc at 1%…. well that’s another matter.
DC —> no return —> your party wipes —> massive unhappiness, especially considering the stability of the game right now.
And if you DC?
Then kill it again.
Back to the good old days, I guess.
It’s not even that there are many PvE choices. It’s that they are exactly the same missions.
If you try to zone into a raid instance while an encounter is in progress, you will zone in defeated and therefore won’t get any credit for loot.
And if you DC?
Quaggan paddle was badly bugged before HoT as well. It would frequently not give the guild credit.
One of my guilds is set for PvE guild missions. The other is no preference. Both got exactly the same missions (same puzzle, same rush). It wasn’t like that previous weeks.
Have you ever heard of a developer actively dissuading players from playing established and functional content? Its unprecedented, at least to me.
Is the intention to deincentivize dungeons?
YesThis is kinda taken out of context. Dungeons were heavy on rewards relative to other gold generating activities in the game (example SilverWastes). Granted, I feel the reward nerf was a bit heavy handed, it served a real purpose of curbing the gold generation in the game.
Only John Smith and his associates have the real data to back up their actions so we should trust that he is a capable economist and trust that his actions WILL benefit the health of the economy as well as the overall game.
“Is the intention to disincentivize dungeons?” “Yes.” I don’t see how that’s not 100% clear.
Can’t wait until they add bear bile as a crafting item. Maybe they’ll have farm nodes for this where lots of bears are in tiny cages for you to harvest the bile out of them.
Anet nerfed dungeon rewards precisely because they didn’t want them played anymore. So why would they now want to make them more interesting?
Wrong.
They said the reward nerf was a good thing for gw2 economy.
Actually, you’re wrong. They literally came out and said they wanted to disincentivize dungeon play.
Oh! Is that why you often see parts of the wooden unupgraded walls even when a tower is fully T3 (especially green side EB)?
Wait until it’s $10.
I would like to suggest some reward tree as in fractals (fractals daily). To make the standard dungeons more interesting. What you all think (and devs?)
Anet nerfed dungeon rewards precisely because they didn’t want them played anymore. So why would they now want to make them more interesting?
They do zero damage after the initial 50%. Was it always like this? Is it the same with mesmer clones?
WvW Invitational Statement from John Corpening, game director for World vs. World
in WvW
Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685
Here is a message today from Colin: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-road-ahead-for-2015/
This bodes ill for WvW. I wonder if John Corpening is still working at Arenanet or whether he has been sacked or moved? These promises are looking increasingly empty.
I’m sure he is still there. You have to remember that essentially the entire ANET vision for WvW proved to be a failure. There are likely some very worried people trying to figure out what to do next.
What’s really interesting is that their original vision at launch was much more in line with what players wanted, both in terms of map design and gameplay mechanics.
From simple maps to maps cluttered with features and PvE, it’s like they’re following in the footsteps of Star Wars Episode 1:
Who was the person behind WvW at launch? Did he leave the company, or is he still in charge and just pulled a George Lucas?
After all the fails we’ve seen: bloodlust ruins —> EotM —> new BL. They haven’t learned anything about WvW.
I think it might be better if they didn’t work on WvW anymore at all.
All my Guild buffs are gone … can I have them back without buying HoT?
it’s a simple question.
Unfortunately, the answer is simple as well: no.
Instanced missions killed the ability for smaller guilds to collaborate as they did before. But it makes sense considering Anet is trying to disincentivize smaller guilds.
Does the API give queue information? It’d be really interesting to see a timeline of queue sizes for each server.
The Arena cannot be entered by Core Players.
Really? So much for a resurgence in GvG.
They say EotM was created for our queues. But more likely it exists only because of the China launch (that’s when it was release). They were afraid of the inevitable MASSIVE WvW queues at launch.
no more
karma trains in the new maps, no more blobs. That’s easy when there’s also no one to play the maps kek.
Oh ya?
Last reset
This number got bigger later in the night
T1, reset night, and a weekend, all combined together and there’s only one queued map? Not a good sign.
He is entering berserker mode an extra time maybe because of the new break bar. Before the break bar you could just interrupt it the first time with a cc but now the break bar doesn’t allow it.
It’s not that, I never interrupted him previously.
It was always very tanky to be honest…
Yeah, but I’ve noticed it takes longer to kill him: when I solo now, he enters berserker mode (turns big and red) one more time than previously.
I’m not 100% sure, but I think this change came shortly after launch of HoT.
This must be some unintended side effect of changes in other parts of the game, I assume.
So saying that WvW is dead because there are a lot of complains here, on the same note you could say that sPvP and PVE is dead too.
No one’s saying WvW is dead because there are a lot of complaints. People are saying it’s dead because… it’s dead. Check out WvW right now, particularly the BLs and you’ll see.
The character slot was only for prepurchase (they weren’t even going to give one until the community exploded in anger).
And no refund on your original purchase if you get HoT.
Any soloers still doing Arah?
It seems they increased the vitality or toughness of the Abomination boss. Anyone else notice this?
They also moved all the WvW buffs (like +5 supply) out of the core game and into HoT. It’s a pretty shady move.
Autoupgrades are here to stay. Anet certainly doesn’t want to put in the manpower effort required to deal with supply/upgrade trolls.
They also nerfed the recharge time of those nodes.
It’s almost too late.
Those who are still playing WvW are, for a large part, the hardcore players; they’re the foundation of server communities. They care about PPT, scouting, sieging, defending, etc. They are the people who make WvW WvW and not EotM.
If these players quit out of frustration, then even if large populations from PvE return to WvW, all they’ll see is karma train.
I think even Warframe, a game known as pure grindfest to many, had droprates openly available, at least for a certain timeframe.
Korean (and I think in some other countries too) companies are actually required to list drop rates by law, at least as long as it’s something which can be bought with real money, though that obviously wouldn’t even apply in our case.
There are devs who do that, but it’s far from being normal for them to do so.
GW2 is available for purchase in Korea, right? So this law should apply, no?
Holiday JPs (specifically the halloween and wintersday ones) used to exist as PvE areas as opposed to PvP. It was much better the old way.
Too late for Halloween. But perhaps we can revert to PvE JP for Wintersday?
I’d just like to know if the numerous and very real problems that have been raised in the hundreds of threads over the last 2 weeks, and 2 years will ever get noticed by Anet. We all know what these problems are…
Please just say yes or no Anet…Stop stringing us on with that loose statement that the entire live dev team will work on WvW after HoT release. Will WvW get attention?
Just want to know so I can give up building for the future or not. Most of us were kinda expecting some kind of resolution with HoT release…not a bunch of changes to make things, much, much worse.
Think about this: Do you really even want them to focus their attention on WvW? Look at the damage they’ve to WvW with the limited amount of attention they have given it:
- failed bloodlust area,
- failed eotm,
- failed new BL,
- failed golem event (yes, this minor compared to the others, but is an example of how out of touch they are)
All failed because they refuse to acknowledge that their vision of WvW is completely different from their customers’ vision.
If they do put their full attention on WvW, are they going to completely change their vision? That’s really far fetched. More like they will continue their failed vision, except this time with the full force of the company behind them. Not a good thing.
