Sentry’s and towers can spot enemies, and if I’m not mistaken this works on invisible units. It shows them on the map not the character model. If it’s a little strong I expect ArenaNet will look into it. Despite the past it seems ArenaNet is putting some focus on WvW I just hope the ‘forum community’ (the toxic ones) don’t scare them away.

I just hope all the people sucking up to Anet at every opportunity don’t give Anet the false impression that their terrible ideas are, in fact, wonderful.

Because there’s new stuff coming, it’s not the same old stuff as before. You shouldn’t be able to buy everything in a guild hall on day 1 with gold, just as you shouldn’t be able to buy one of the new legendaries from the TP.

To stop that they can use one of their favorite mechanics: the time gate.

The time-gating thing bugs me too. I expect there’s some economic rationale where time-gating will somehow prevent flooding the market or something, but surely there’s a better way? Let us craft as much as we want, and – if you must limit sales on TP – limit them at that point, on the TP.

I don’t mind putting in hard work for something I want. I just hate being limited arbitrarily.

Time gating pushes you to log in every day (or week, whatever the gate), turning it into a habit for you. Also, it’s a way to artificially stretch out content when there is a lack of it.

In matchups where one server is rolling the others, this won’t make a difference besides having the other two servers give up a bit earlier in the week (maybe Sunday instead of Monday).

In matchups where the ppt “matter,” all this’ll do is encourage people to make more spy accounts.

And you haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about considering it was very easy to get 10 randoms eager to try out the new raid.

There are 4 mobs. 3 are mini bosses or apparently being labelled trash, but whatever. The first 3 trash were easy to kill and were typical Anet sponge bags. I was a healing druid. I think one person was downed throughout red, green and blue.

Then we had 3 dc’s and for whatever reason we could not replace them as it wouldn’t let anyone in. Maybe it was a bug I don’t know. Other players have said they were able to replace people.

Anyways. We had a go at the final boss and ending up wiping. My criticism isn’t really aimed at the difficulty of the final boss, although it certainly felt very beatable; more the overall inspid and predictable feel of the whole encounter.

But that isn’t really what annoyed me most of all. I just felt the whole instance felt static and lifeless. There was no sense of wonder or awe, or “oh wow we are in the raid!”. You have the 3 coloured Guardians all stacked behind each other in an extremely bland environment. Compare this setting to the majesty of verdant brinks itself and it’s hard to not feel a little disappointed. The trash/mini bosses all have extremely awkward animations and move like they are walking in tar.

I was also irritated by the way we all had to swap from power to condi and back again too, made even more exasperating that you cannot save BUILDS AND GEAR. Honestly, 3 years down the line and you cannot do this simple and much demanded feature that is standard in every AAA mmo??

So yes, i did try it and was extremely disappointed with it. As I have said previously, beating the boss won’t make me suddenly enjoy it more, and I will beat it. No doubt it will be more of a feeling of ok, glad that chore is gone rather than any sense of accomplishment.

There are bigger issues at play than the basic boss or its mechanics. When TA Ather path feels more like a raid than your raid, there is a problem.

Just my opinion.

Not sure why everyone’s gotten so touchy about Anet being criticized, but these are pretty valid points.

After 3 years we’d like to see even some of the major issues plaguing wvw from beta be actually addressed not just talked about.

What’s with the obsession of placing names on siege? It’s not as if we don’t know who the siege trolls are. We do. It’s not as if we’re unable to video the trolls in action and report them. We can.

Who the trolls are and what they’re doing is common knowledge. The problem is that you can’t build an AI smart enough to recognize siege trolls and Anet is unwilling to spend resources to deal with them manually.

Who knew all it takes is a few red posts to make everyone in the dungeon a rabid Anet defender? (Joking… kinda.)

My constructive criticism is me saying i’m not a fan tick, unavoidable damage. I’m not a fan of forcing everyone to run a gimmick build by making the boss straight up immune, the boss models and animations aren’t very good in my opinion. I even suggested adding a build template system if they are going to force people to change traitlines and gear before each encounter, this is already something I do in the live game when I go from condi to power for example, it’s tedious and uninteresting. If this isn’t constructive I don’t know what is.

IMO these are all valid criticisms that can be made without having played the game.

Want people to use less zerker gear? Unavoidable damage! Want condi people? Direct damage immunity! Want direct damage people? Condi immunity!

More unavoidable agony and Alphards, is that what the game really needs?

Any update on this? We have more seige trolls on our server

They have terrible communication with their playerbase, but from their actions we can infer that they don’t want to spend the money to have people handle these problems. They want it all automated: just look at the ideas the dev was floating. Look at the automation of upgrades incoming to HoT.

Of course, it won’t work, trolls will always find a way to troll, and with no humans taking reports, they’ll never go away.

The thing I’m not understanding is: People make legendaries for the looks/effects. I haven’t heard too many people state that they made their legendary simply for selectable stats.

It’s because selectable stats without selectable sigils is pretty much worthless.

Night (Day/Night Sigils do not work inside the raid)

Dont know about everyone else. But i really like this. And im also glad about slaying potions/sigils not being relevant. Its always been more of an annoyance to min maxing than anything else.

That said it would be nice to have some sort of decent replacement to night sigils.

I don’t like it. Make the content so the gameplay encourages players to use other sigils/potions, don’t ban/disable the ones you don’t want players to use.

Guys, c’mon. The reason Zealot/Nomad/Sinister aren’t there is because these stats were added to the game after launch of ascended sets. The current list uses all stats available when ascended was released, and it’s safe to assume these stats weren’t compiled in a list later on. It has nothing to do with ArenaNet removing them or not supporting them.

Sounds like a case of really poor programming practices.

It just makes me a bit sad to see new developers popping up enthusiastically around here and seeing them shot down by what they might perceive as their target audience. I’m not saying to be hyped, or getting your hopes up. Just remember though that these are people though that (I think) might give you the best shot at the content you want.

It doesn’t help that he’s hyping up fractal and guild mission “revamps” when by all indications, it’s more like “reorganization.”

Also, rereading his post… he said the raid will come out after HoT launches? I was pretty sure they originally said it would come at release. And what’s coming out shortly after release isn’t even the entire raid, but only a few wings? Was something announced recently that I missed?

This. Dungeons, fractals, and guild missions are just the big examples. There are also lots smaller ones like the dungeon revamp that lasted all of one dungeon. They were also commited to bi-weekly living stories. Remember their big focus being on map-wide event chains and a world that changed dynamically depending on how those chains played out? Wasn’t the atlas a big reveal also? Whatever happened to that?

Extrapolating from past history, I’d say we see one single new raid about 5-6 months after HoT release, then maybe a mini-instance raid with just a couple bosses 5-6 months after that. Then the content will be abandoned. Two years after that, they’ll confirm what everyone already know, that raids are dead….

… but don’t worry, look at our shiny new project: the (FILL IN THE BLANK). It’ll be much better and we’re very excited to show it off. It’ll be great, we promise!

I’m not sure how the hell they will balance them, considering that there is only a 5% difference in total stats. if they balance around DPS, then zerker will be required due to the DPS requirement, if they balance around mitigation, then it becomes impossible for glass cannons to survive and makes mitigation required.

the ONLY way it could work is if they balanced around celestial, or made a new type of raid infusion for armors instead of rings and necks

do you even know what a gear treadmill is? They said months ago ascended gear will continue to be the best equipment in the game, no higher tier…
so no there is still no gear treadmill and it isn’t even close to WoWs Raid Model

But they said everyone at level 80 would have the best statistical loot in the game. They’ve gone back on that so how can we trust that they will keep to their word now?

You can’t. When people go back on their word on major issues (this was a heavy selling point of GW2 at release), you’d be foolish to trust them again.

There is no way they are skilled enough to balance it so tightly that doing raids in exotics is significantly harder than doing them in Ascended.

So my guess is that there will be a new mechanic (like agony) and new infusions to negate that mechanic, making Ascended more or less mandatory (as exotics don’t have infusion slots). This is actually the worst case scenario and IMO extremely likely.

After seeing that finishers are less than 30g on the tp, I can stop worrying about the keyfarm effect. Seems there are more than enough people buying keys for real $ or with big losses for gold.

Not sure why that’s your conclusion. Could be just that finishers aren’t coveted by players.. especially since tons of them were recently on sale for really cheap.

And weekends will still be the popular slot where people will do missions since thats when most people are on.

There is a significant difference between doing the missions just after reset, and doing them just before reset. In the first case you have a week to catch up on merits if something goes wrong (people won’t show up, mission fails, or like it often happens lately rewards bug out) or catch up on commendations if you miss the mission day. In second case there’s no redo or catchup at all – if something goes wrong, you lose the rewards for that week.

Monday reset is really bad timing.

The hardcore players dictate a lot of the gameplay. They’ll do guild missions at or around reset. That leaves casuals on their own when they have time to play on the weekends. So you end up with less population and fewer “experts” for missions when casuals are doing them. Not a recipe for success.

Now they need to fix Detha’s bugs, and Grast’s too, where he doesnt cast his shield bubble. That last one is a problem when you are in a group of new underleveled players since the boss takes longer to die.

Grast showing the bubbling animation, but having it not work really turns new players off of dungeons. Even more so when you tell them it’s been like that for 3 years.

It would be tough for small guilds like mine to complete guild missions with this change. We usually do guild missions soon after the reset in hopes to run into a big guild that is planning to do the run. With this change, the hardcore and/or big guilds will be doing the runs after Monday reset, leaving us with less options available on Saturday night.

This. Right now you can count on getting guild rush and challenges done (with credit) at reset. With 12:30am reset on Monday, there’s a good chance there will no longer be a block of time where lots of guilds are doing missions (which you need as a small guild since RNG means you don’t know which rush or challenge you’re going to get).

By the way, guild challenges are going away for smaller guilds anyway (as they’re being instanced in the future).

If your plan is to kill adds before finishing off Brie, definitely go buy some mortar kits. Whoever thought of using them to catch the inquest technicians: genius. Anyone know what that was, by the way?

If you want to do it faster, but with less pressure, you can hit Brie until the first (real) wave comes. Aggro the berserkers and pull them to Brie. Cleave them to death while you kill Brie. This gives you more time to finish Brie and is a good compromise between killing all the adds versus killing Brie in one sitting.

In an instance with only 10 players inside I’m pretty kitten sure that won’t be a problem, nor overly difficult to do

From how Anet responded, it seems they either can’t or are very unwilling to make the change so that it’s exclusive to raids.

I can believe it’s “can’t” because they appear to have some really poor programming practices, so making the change might be a lot harder than it should be.

Didn’t stop them from removing condi caps to please world boss zergers.

That cost them money too. Just because they’re willing to spend money on that doesn’t mean they’d do it for this. Condi caps has been a thing people have consistently complained about since launch.

People wanted condi caps lifted because they weren’t getting credit in world boss zergs. Loot is something people care deeply about. While ten man buffing is mechanically a similar issue, it doesn’t affect players’ loot income directly …so I don’t see it as being something that’ll get much attention from the general population.

GW1 had build saving and fully customizable UI. It took 3 years to get separate builds for the different game modes in GW2, and still no build saving. Maybe in 2018? And the UI is still just as (un)customizable.

How hard would it be to collaborate with rT/DnT/SC people, ask them for parses and trade PM’s to float ideas before they implement their broken mess.

This. Calling in “top” players for help could really make a difference — particularly since they’ve shown they have very little understanding of their own game and how it’s played .(This is true for all game modes: PvE, PvP, WvW).

Dungeons have been abandoned. Fractals are getting support in the form of new level cap and high end mechanics but we aren’t getting new fractals. Why should I have reason to think Raids won’t end up just as unsupported as the 2 previous incarnations of instanced group content were? There’s a track record here for ArenaNet implementing a type of content and then abandoning it. I’d really love to hear why this will fare differently in its fate than fractals and dungeons.

One of the few people who gets it. Of course it’s going to be abandoned. That’s exactly how Anet works. To think they’ve suddenly — out of the blue — completely changed how they operate after three years is foolish.

If we extrapolate from past history, we’ll see the raid slowly roll out over a period of months (as I understand, it’ll be unfinished at HoT launch). Then one (disappointing) new one maybe 6 months later. And that’ll be it. The raid team will be quietly disbanded. There’ll be no communication from Anet about the status of raid content. Bugs from patches will accumulate, never to be fixed.

And two years later they’ll be hyping their next huge project.

Why would Arena Net design a spec that will be REQUIRED in raids if Colin Johanson said more or less that “we dont want that in Guild Wars 2” earlier this year at PAX. I will quote EXACTLY what he said.

He also said that by the time a player reaches level 80, they should have best in slot gear. And then we got Ascended armor. His explanation (a few years later): “we changed our minds” (paraphrasing).

Anet only did it for weapons and armor as a band-aid reaction to players exploding in anger when it was announced Ascended gear would have 10% more stats than exotic.

They said they would do something for all the rings people have accumulated, but it looks like that something is going to be some sort of salvaging.

Stat change is unlikely to happen for anything other than weapons and armor. (And there was recently a thread where the OP gave a reasonable argument that that might be removed also.)

Going by the last information available, we’re getting 4 maps with HoT with 3 layers each. I personally played in both beta weekends so far, and we got to play 50% in total of only the first map. IMO it felt huge. Bigger then any map currently in gw2, and we still haven’t seen the rest 50% of it. This I remind you, was only 1 of the 4 new maps, and they will all be in similiar size. You can easily open the world map and see for yourself how huge Maguuma Wastes is on the map compared to other regions.

Timberline Falls, Lornar’s Pass, Blazeridge Steppes and half a dozen other maps all call kitten on your statement.

As they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I will illustrate a proof of my statement. Next time check your facts, before going into the forum and screwing.
Also perhaps you forget the part of my statement that the new maps with be with 3 layers each, every layer the same size as the previous 2.
