After a few weeks, when everyone is done with the open world PvE, if people don’t shift to raids and population starts to dwindle, Anet will follow the metrics and make them easier.
If it’s a 5-man instance, then scaled for 5 players.
If it’s an instance for more than 5 players, no reason you won’t be able to invite others to play (just like now), I would think.
Why would Guild Challenge be 5-man instance??
…for smaller guilds who currently collaborate with other smaller guilds (because they will be instanced in the future)?
Looking at the last “test,” it’s just for publicity… PvE streamers and such are those who will be invited.
And there we have it then. You complain about lack of (in your eyes) good selections, and yet you didn’t even try to do anything about it yourself by submitting something that would be good in your eyes.
Completely irrelevant.
Happened again this week. Quaggan Paddle again.
The missions stays in “Active Missions” despite accepting credit for finishing it.
Most of the time I was in WvW, lamenting at how much the game is turning into nagware for this kitten ed expansion.
Pretty annoying. The white knights suggest you turn off your monitor during loading screens. LOL
It’s not a problem because no one plays WvW exclusively, right?
Right.. Even our exception played other game modes and lied to the president of the companies face. Didn’t wanna bring it there but if people keep claiming nonsense I’ll open my can of worms some more.
I’m sure you’re one of those who count logging into the game in PvE by default as playing PvE so there’s no point in bothering with you.
They’ve locked sinister gear behind LS season 2 so that people will have to pay gems if they want those stats. So it’d be foolish of them to negate that by making another path to sinister gear.
It’s not a problem because no one plays WvW exclusively, right?
When a game goes F2P, this is expected.
Here is Anet’s argument against OP’s suggestion:
“There are no players who play WvW exclusively so why would this be necessary?”
They don’t even listen to the constructive feedback is the major issue. How many CDI’s full of constructive feedback were there ?
It was explained that we did not desire the Golem event, and if they were going to go ahead with it, they needed to limit how long it lasted, they ignored it and the die hards didn’t log in for the week.
You can’t put this all on the players, judging by some of the comments made by Anet staff they have proven that they are completely out of touch with their WvW community. Promises that never see the light of day, I think its fair to say some of the WvW players know more about WvW then the devs. If they would work with us and run things by us and actually listen to our constructive feedback you would see a lot less complaining.
100% this.
And we’ve seen historically that it’s very important to analyze upcoming changes and complain about them if we think they’re bad because once the changes come out, Anet washes their hands of them and doesn’t bother to fix issues.
Golem rush event: everyone warned Anet about it. It turned out to be an epic disaster. Was it shortened? No. Were the bugs/exploits dealt with? No. Not even acknowledged, in fact.
- Guilds without Guild Halls will not be able to claim objectives.
And Guild Halls are only available if you have HoT, right?
I’ve seen people say that by making the fractals a static schedule instead of semi random they are coding themselves into a corner when it comes to adding new fractals, unless they add those new to fractals to 100+. Because of the things they bragged about with this system was how you could keep records easily since they will always be the same and always have the same instability. But if they make a new fractal and insert into the list in 5 or 6 spaced out places, it moves everything above it up a few spots which messes up the records part of it and im sure would take some interesting work to keep the instabilities with the same levels.
If they don’t make new fractals they don’t have this problem. Maybe that’s the plan?
Leveling from 1-60 in pve on a fresh account takes much longer due to the loss of many buffs you can get from your acheive bonuses, and boosters/fireworks etc.
Free account also can’t transfer servers, so if they want to spy/troll on another server they would have to level another account from 1-60
Fastest way would be with leveling crafting 5.5 times to 400 (currently ~100g of mats) with ~2 gifted boosters(~50g), even then that takes quite a bit of time and effort. About 150 gold, ~ 4 hours of crafting/salvaging, 1+ hour of mailing mats, because of the restrictions on TP for free accounts (common items only), 3-4 hours farming for said gold in sw.
So say total of 10 hours and 150+ gold per server for craft leveling. For many players that’s pretty expensive. And the players with dedication to do this probably already have a bunch of $10 accounts.
As to guilds transferring down to carry a server up, that could always happen before. ie war machine and kaineng. The population change + f2p accounts just means that instead of buying gems to move back and forth they will now just make free accounts while keeping their mains on the more populous server.
While this seems advantageous, the time and gold cost is enormously higher as they would have to re-lvl and re-gear 300 gold per account for exotics, 1k+ for ascended. If a guild had the dedication to spend 1k+ gold ($82 at current conversion rate) per character to move to say Eredon Terrace, what would stop them from spending another $50 for the account on top of it?
On leveling: there are ways to level quickly that don’t require gold (but do require gameplay).
On having to transfer: Almost all your matchups are with the same few servers. You’d only need 3-4 free accounts and you cover pretty much all matchups you’d ever see.
To be fair the community reacted in a way that seemed they would rather play core WvW then have another special event. For all we know they might have had another planned but after the first one well poorly they decided to scrap it. The WvW community seems to complain about stale matchups but as soon as something changes it they complain as well.
No. The community reacted the way it did because the event was extremely poorly conceived. Not only that, we warned them well beforehand it would be a terrible event but they didn’t care. Not only that, remember the Golem exploit they let run for the entire week and never even bothered to acknowledge, much less deal with.
Look how quick they acted when it was something that affected the economy (I guarantee you the only reason they did this update was because of #1 and #2).
Meanwhile, they still haven’t bothered to deal with the siege golem issue.
HAHA hey I guess they really do read the forums despite what you guys think
Actually I still have one way to transfer wealth but it’s far less direct and requires pre setup and involves art of war IV.
I know what you’re talking about… you might want to be careful though because I can definitely see Anet banning those who launder F2P gold.

“When bosses don’t die in 5 seconds, survivability and sustainability actually becomes a thing.”
Oh look dungeon requires no skills says a dev.(At least thats how I interpret that statement.)
I was far more interested in the other comment. I take it they have play tested the raid already. If necro is in a good place (likely they didn’t really look at damage that much) then I can only assume that a focus on avoiding damage and the current style of PVE is not something we’re going to see in raids. Not a big surprise seeing their feverish love for their PVP and their belief that it’s somehow a superior gameplay style.
Chances are these raids won’t be very much fun to me it keeps sounding like.
I wouldn’t give up yet. They’ve shown that they have very little understanding of their own game. This could be mitigated by inviting leading members of the dungeon community as advisors during development (beta is way too late), but that hasn’t happened.
So I think it’s very likely the meta could end up completely different from their intentions (in a good way).
Not really an easy way to transfer money but you could buy siege from the TP (eg. omega golems) and give them to your main account in WvW. You’d probably take a small loss but that’s probably the best way.
In b4 stealth nerfed.
As for selling arah, haven’t done that since lupi bug, too much effort for a couple of gold. Rather trio a frac and sell that.
Just nerfed. LOL.
Is there gonna be one this year?
Like seriously. We know the devs aren’t interested in doing anything about it, why not just confirm it and let the issue die?
Because when they (inevitably) do the same thing with raids , they don’t want you throwing back at them, “You confirmed Lupi would never be fixed, but yet are completely silent on such and such raid bug.”
Half-Baked has been bugged like this since launch of guild missions. Just chalk it up as a loss 1/2 the time you get him because it doesn’t look like they’re ever going to fix it.
Posting for a friend as F2P accounts can’t post:
He was level 3 (PvE levels) in PvP, left the lobby and ended up in Lions arch upon loading into PvE. I was under the impression F2P accounts weren’t allowed there until level 35 so that’s a bug, I guess.
He explored a little bit and entered a few portals before I told him he might be banned for exploiting. Is he going to be banned (he’s already spent quite some time in PvP so doesn’t want to start over)?
is basically like going at night in a shady neighbourhood then complain you got robbed :P
If I’m not mistaken, even if I’m dumb and robbed in a shady neighbourhood there would be atleast an attempt at restoring justice, unlike here
Anet is simply not willing to put human man-hours into policing the game. Your case definitely requires a human to make a judgement call, so there’s zero chance you’re going to get justice.
Truthfully I’m okay with this as long as they’re active in building new raids and Fractal content.
That word “active.” They have never been even close to active in building dungeons or fractals. And they frequently start projects only to abandon them very quickly.
It looks like Anet doesn’t really have a good vision for the game and are just moving in whatever direction their latest metrics tell them to go.
It might really be time for people in the dungeon forum to seriously consider some outreach/propaganda with the casual community because if raids aren’t immediately super popular on release, they’re going to be abandoned.
For instance, during the boss’s frontal cone that cleaves everything in front of it, breaking the bar will not quite CC the beast but make it suspectible to TAUNT, thus said Taunt player, let’s call him ‘Not Wearing Berserker’, will taunt the boss away from the rest of the raid for the duration of the channel and take the cleave and possibly live.
I hope the mechanics don’t end up being that specific (only susceptible to taunt) … it’s a bit too close to being forced to use certain builds, which takes creativity away from the players.
How many servers are you looking at? If it’s not too many, you can make a few free accounts, level thru crafting/buying dungeon runs, and check them out. It’ll cost you a bit of gold, but might be the best way to see what fits for you.
If you haven’t seen it before, you’d be surprised how effective it is for a troll/spy to tag up the same color as a pugmander to disrupt/split the zerg.
Also, most tiers are pretty static, with each server only ever matched up with maybe 3-4 other servers. So a spy/troll doesn’t really need that many free accounts.
Spies can also be more bold now because losing a F2P account means nothing (not that that ever happens).
“Server Pride,” however little that means right now, still has enough meaning that WvW hasn’t fallen into EotM territory. This idea removes the cohesion and community of a server and has a good chance of making WvW into EotM 2.
By the way, if you send players to servers that have guild members, that can easily be abused by having a non-free spy account make a guild.
Will Raids Take Up Too Much Of Devs' Time?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685
Remember dungeons? Then fractals were the next big thing. There was also a living breathing dynamic world. And then it was bi-weekly updates. Oh, and Guild Missions!
All abandoned.
They’ll move on to something else soon enough so even if raids do take a lot of dev effort (which they do), it won’t be for too long, I’d imagine.
Not really an easy way to transfer money but you could buy siege from the TP (eg. omega golems) and give them to your main account in WvW. You’d probably take a small loss but that’s probably the best way.
Pure genius! Definitely will be nerfed before I even get one free toon to level 60 though lol.
Hacker in our matchup is still around and still doing hacking into towers. Updates on this guy?
Path selling is not forbidden, but path selling is not supported by GMs. Period. Feel lucky they don’t ban it entirely.
It’s still griefing whether OP was selling or not:
if you were in a normal dungeon party, had some group members leave, posted on LFG for replacements, and promptly had 3 people steal your instance, that’s griefing. This is no different. That the OP was selling is irrelevant.
From what I can gather from the OP, he wasn’t kicked. He was simply not paid once the dungeon was finished. I’ve played enough MMO’s to know if a player isn’t exploiting the game, they don’t tend to get banned for this sort of thing, especially if the game isn’t designed to support it. It’s crap that people get treated poorly but that’s not a bannable offense.
You’re right… seems OP wasn’t kicked. That’s a new one! Considering how little Anet cares about obvious and clear griefing, this isn’t going to get any attention at all. Neat trick actually.
I guess, make a few F2P alts to hold slots?
And Lord Kuru you’ve ignored what anybody has said about what is allowed in chat. Role an F2P account and play it. It really isn’t as horrific as you’ve suggested.
Plus ANet has to balance the F2P experience with the Vet experience of RMT spammers flooding the world as well as threats to the game economy.
I did roll one. I wanted to level so the first thing I tried to do was ask if any events were going on. And guess what, I couldn’t. Luckily I know where events might be happening but a new player has no idea what’s going on.
And for those who wish to feel superior because you gave Anet $10, go ahead. But if F2P drives new players away, the game suffers as a whole and in the end your experience will suffer.
Anet should just bite the bullet and have real live human beings taking care of chat abuse reports in real time because not being about to communicate in an MMO is ridiculous.
I don’t get it. Core game is available for free but people still whine. Not enough character slots, can’t earn laurels, chat restrictions for new players, etc. For kitten sake it’s really simple. If you like the game then buy HoT and restrictions disappear. That’s why NCSoft/ANet made game free. Consider it as trial not truly free2play game..
That was how i took it. It’s essentially a demo mode, albeit a non-time-limited one, which gives access to the majority of the game’s content.
The restrictions in place are not to limit the demo account, but to protect players who have paid for the full game.
They’re not calling it a demo. They’re calling it F2P. People expect demos to be extremely restrictive. F2P being as restrictive as a demo makes for bad publicity.
I understand why the restriction is there: to stop gold sellers and to make free play as uncomfortable as possible so people will buy the game, but….
if new players can’t ask for help, they’re going to be turned off of the game real quick.
They can pay for the full game, and full access to the game then?
Or they can immediately get discouraged and quit.
You just downloaded the game, have no idea how to play, you have questions. The chat box is unavailable, there’s no indication that you can whisper people, you can’t make friends if you can’t talk — how do you even respond to guild recruitments?
First impression: not good.
If you didn’t spend any money on the game you have no real incentive to go any further. You just chalk it up as a waste of time and quit
…maybe even telling a few irl friends that you can’t even communicate (in an MMO!) if you don’t buy the game. The words P2W probably comes up (though not literally accurate) because if you put basic features behind a paywall those are the words that come to mind.
I paid $10 for this game. If a player who didn’t pay for anything wants the perks of my account, then they have to pay. They can wait for a sale while enjoying game. $10 is the cost of a lunch. Players who don’t want to pay even that can’t complain.
If they quit, how does that hurt the game? They paid nothing. Game loose nothing.
Really short sighted.
You do lose. New players are what keeps an MMO alive. There’s a lot of turnover and if players who’ve quit don’t get replaced, you end up playing by yourself. It’s already happened: that’s why we have megaservers right now.
You can restrict F2P players, but if you do it too much, they quit immediately. No chat is too restrictive.
F2P is for new players to check out the game and contribute by being playmates to pay-players, and also to get them buy the full game. So first impressions are important for the F2P version. Here what a new player sees:
- I need some help, let me ask in the chat box: “kitten account, Buy HoT!”
- Let me enter this Rata Sum portal: “kitten account, Buy HoT!”
- Let me use the mailbox: “kitten account, Buy HoT!”
- What’s that notice in the corner of the screen, oh, it says “Buy HoT!”
The chat restriction is particularly bad. This is an MMO and you can’t talk to other players? How do you make friends or respond to guild recruitments?
You expect some degree of restrictions but this is a bit too much. If new players feel like second class citizen they’re going to — technically accurate or not — pull out the dreaded letters “P2W” .. not something you want associated to your MMO.
In short, F2P new players have no money invested into the game, so they’ll quit in the beginning at the drop of a hat. The first impressions they get currently: not good.
I understand why the restriction is there: to stop gold sellers and to make free play as uncomfortable as possible so people will buy the game, but….
if new players can’t ask for help, they’re going to be turned off of the game real quick.

Wait a second. I just checked, it seems free accounts can receive gold but can’t send gold or anything.
Maybe just buy ectos with the gold and then sell them back to TP for 1s to drive the price of ectos down? Then your main gets to buy ectos at this lower price? LOL.
Not to mention, you have to walk them all through the dungeon, click all their loot, etc.
You do it just for daily gold reward. Park them at the beginning of the dungeon.
Selling Arah p2: 5g per person. Your alts will get 3g. A bit less, but no hassle of selling.
I understand why the restriction is there: to stop gold sellers and to make free play as uncomfortable as possible so people will buy the game, but….

Four free accounts + dungeon solo means you get all the rewards (yes it’s less than selling, but zero wait time).
Will this take some sellers off the market? And will that bump up the price of dungeons? Kinda interesting.
Here’s a concern:
Locking Legendary armor behind raids (that is the case right?) means casuals will complain until something gets changed — they’re already doing it in the main forum.
So it’s likely eith Anet nerfs the raids until they’re accessible to casuals or they’ll make legendary armor available thru some other gameplay.
Nerfing raid difficulty will have the added benefit of opening up more content to casuals… casuals are going to run out of content quick and Anet is VERY slow in creating new content — they’re going to feel the pressure when they’re far from releasing new stuff and players are getting bored.
This post is not much to seek justice for myself (it was just an Arah run) but to prevent it for others seeing as those 3 are clearly frequently doing this…
As far as I know, in 3 years, this behavior has never been punished. That’s why there are people “frequently doing this.”
What about try this: report and add these people to your friends/blocked list and monitor if anything is ever done.
Does anyone understand how the new guild missions will work? Specifically:
Finally, the old system encouraged guilds to run each type of mission per week, but with guild missions becoming the center of guild progression, we needed to mix up the available missions to introduce variation. In the new system, your guild will start with access to a few missions each week. These are the same for all guilds across the game, and each mission has a favor bounty attached to it along with some objectives. As your guild levels up, you’ll open up more missions that you can run each week.
So not all missions will be available at the start (“a few missions each week”).
Does that mean, for example, only guild bounty will be available at launch? Or does that mean all types of guild missions will be available and that each mission will be missing some features (for example, no Poobadoo at launch).
If the former, then there will be fewer commendations given out than before.
Also, it seems current progress is reset… what if your guild has all missions currently unlocked? What about missions you’ve already built? And if a guild is close to getting, say Guild Challenge unlocked.. should they not bother at this point?
Looks like T1 being full (T2 also?) is good news since free accounts can’t be made there.
Lower tiers though, there’s gonna be a lot of siege trolls, hackers and spies pretty soon.
Yea because every single f2p account is a troll/hacker/spy right? LOL
Who cares about spies anyways.. What will they do send a zerg to where we are? Ohh look inc bags
No not all f2p accounts are hackers/trolls/spys, but the damage that those who are can do to a server is tremendous.
Remember that Anet doesn’t act against siege trolls, so that’s going to be a big mess.
yeah in Deso we already have enough SFR’s siege trolls =D
Now some rogue on your server will retaliate and siege troll them, and then they’ll have some guy retaliate and troll you… on and on and on.
