This is actually terrible news.
Looking at how much Anet’s vision for WvW (see new fail BL) differs from WvW players’ view of the game mode, it’s probably better if they just leave it alone and let it die a slow death (though with this new BL, that death might not be so slow).
Terrible news considering their vision of WvW is 180 degrees away from WvW players’ vision of the game mode.
Can a person without HoT get a (functional) guild hall this way?
Revert back to BL with quaggan lake. Delete EotM. Make the new BL a PvE map; or just trash it.
Remember the infamous Karka Queen disconnects? People have already been asking for this for 3 years. Maybe next expansion in 2018?
All we need now is for the API to give us detailed statistics on EB kills/captures/etc. so that everyone can keep track of the “EB score,” just play that, and pretend the BLs don’t exist. There are no longer enough people for more than just EB anyway.
All the “there’s new PvE maps” convenient forget that there’s also a new WvW map. Yet there’s pretty much zero interest in it. Not a good sign.
What’s up with this?
Guild chat? Easily overcome with team speak. I can’t think of many other disadvantages to running rep-less WvW anymore. Mostly advantages.
You can see guild chat regardless of whether you’re repping or not.
Anet didn’t want people in dungeons. Massive numbers of people are in dungeons. That’s a fail. It’s pretty cut and dry.
Population’s already thin. Splitting it between easy and hard mode would make the game more empty than it already is.
I wouldn’t mind if they just removed quickness and slow from the game. Did we really need more boons and conditions?
Not sure if you’re serious? Dungeons got stuck on the back burner and the team disbanded over a year ago and with the release of HoT they cut back the direct gold reward by 2/3rds to discourage running them.
Fractals are now the “new” instanced party content they are developing for besides raids.
Actually I am quite serious. I have not played GW2 since April last year and just have returned and I expected new dungeons with a new expansion. I am a bit disappointed if it is only 4 maps of content and raids. I did expect a full content expansion considering the price of it.
Nope. They’re done with dungeons. And are even actively discouraging people from running them by reducing rewards (they literally stated this publicly). Also, raids aren’t even here yet, and only the first wing will be released “soon.”
It seems like an easy fix is to put an NPC into WvW that sells them. Once you have your war room you can either buy more from him or go to the war room to buy them. And the NPC can just stay in game selling them. No reason to ever take him out.
You’re assuming all they did was forget to put the NPC in the game. Maybe they didn’t even to put Badges of Tribute into the game?
The influence system is exactly what you’re describing; they could have kept it and had the guild hall require influence. That would have been easier than creating a whole new system. But they deliberately made the decision to change to the current favor system. So I’d say you’re out of luck.
Interesting to see this forum’s attitudes about face from before this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Raid-team-introductions/first#post5555088
to after and then again to now. And we’re right back where we started.
With the removal of influence from everyday play, there’s no reason to ever rep any guild anymore — except for the brief moments when you’re doing guild missions.
Bring back the old BL and either trash this new map.
Better yet, make it a HoT-exclusive PvE map; announce “exciting new PvE map, only for HoT players! Buy your copy of HoT now!” so that all the fanboys can pleasure themselves while thinking about how much Anet loves them.
It used to be that if you represented a guild, it’d get the influence you generated. With favor replacing influence and only obtainable through guild missions (is that right?) is there any benefit to representing a guild anymore (besides visibility and promotion of your guild)?
There was a patch today? Are the two guild rushes still bugged (gives no commendations)?
If a guild had one member with HoT and many non-HoT members, it can build a guild hall, right?
What if that member subsequently leaves the guild?
Bear Lope. Ran it, didn’t get commendations after passing finishing line (only fireworks). Did not already get credit for it previously.
There’s actually new bugs, some things that used to be solid now aren’t anymore (molten facility drill, thaumanova forcefield in the turret room).
Is that why Alphard’s crates are now only partially solid?
Did anyone get any personal rewards for missions this week?
We tried to do rush and I did it four times in different maps and yet no personal reward of any kind. No chest, no wiggle chest, nothing. Just the fireworks. Guild panel shows “you are eligible for this reward” but nothing happened?
One time it showed “Guild activated missions in other map” but traveling there showed wrong flag and still no rewards.Anyone has some cohesive information on what the kitten going on?
Just tried guild rush (bear lope) got nothing after entering finish line. So yeah, bugged.
Guild Bounty and Guild Rush used to get me 3 commendations per week. Is that still possible now with an unleveled guild?
My guild missions this week are Bounty (which gave only one commendation) and two
Guild Challenges (which my guild is too small to do).
If I create a an alt guild, can I get another commendation by doing the easy guild mission with that guild?
The thread in General Discussion asking whether it’s ok to level via CoF just vanished (right as I was about to post in it). You might want to be careful if you’re going to level that way.
if you could get hero banners or whatever cheaper from the initiative than from your own hall, who would ever do the upgrade in the hall right?
Previously, you had guild bounty trainings which gave a decent amount of influence. That’s no more.
As for the quoted portion above: you want people to build guild halls? Give them positive incentives to do so. Don’t take away what people previously had in order to force them to build the halls.
Can a guild without HoT get to guild level 10 (for more guild missions)? Seems the only way to get levels is to buy upgrades… but are there even enough upgrades available to non-HoT guilds?

I guess that’s a “Yes, it’s ok!”?
He didn’t directly answer the question of whether it was an exploit.
I wouldn’t be surprised if, in a few days, they banned everyone who did this and then said that it’s obvious the statement does not cover utilization of exploits.
Several of the guild rushes have been bugged for a long time, inconsistently giving (or not giving) rewards. Seems they didn’t fix any of that for HoT. Which rush did you do?
If you only have 2 people in your guild, note that there are now guild membership gates (for example minimum 3 members) in order to do some (all?) guild missions. And you need those missions in order to get favor (the new guild currency). You need favor to get upgrades. So it may not be possible to reacquire the guild features you had before.
They just added foxfire clusters to the bank tab. It looks like for every item added to wallet/bank tab, they have to introduce one to replace it. Not sure why it has to be that way.
There was a thread yesterday of someone getting a refund and having their core account kept intact, so it’s something you might be interested in trying. Though seeing how they’re treating core-only gamers, it might not be a big deal to lose the entire account.
Shark fins? Now that’s in poor taste Anet.
I believe you only get them by completing daily fractal achievements.
Seriously? That’s a massive nerf.
If you’re not interested in the new profession and you’re not even level 80 yet, definitely wait. Why buy at full price now and not even be able to play the content when you can wait until you’re level 80 and probably get it on sale? The holidays are coming up after all… and judging by the reception HoT is getting, there’s very possibly going to be some good sales.
You’re looking at it the wrong way. To understand their decisions you have to put yourself in their place. If you’re Anet, you’re not analyzing which system is better for the player. You’re analyzing which system is better for you.
And in this case, they realize they haven’t created enough new content. So they need to artificially stretch it out as much as possible in order to give the illusion of more content than there actually is.
They actually came out and said they’re trying to discourage players from doing dungeons. Seems they are trying to make core-only players’ lives as unpleasant as possible in order to “encourage” them to buy HoT.
As further examples, see the new fractal masteries and the loss of guild functionality.
Scale 10 doesn’t give them any more.
Is it possible to get guild commendations this week if you don’t have HoT? Seems you can’t unlock PvE guild missions?
For real?!
Awesome! Now things are normalizing much, much better to allow for balanced conditions in WvW.
Oh wait, new armor stat combination has +condition duration. This makes things objectively worse.
Nice job screwing up something else, ANet.
It seems their intention is not to nerf condi duration: they know a lot of people want to play builds with condi duration so they lock it behind the paywall of HoT in order to drive sales.
are they still possible to get?
I seriously doubt it’s on a to-do list.
Notice that EotM is integrated into the map, but for the new BLs, it doesn’t look like they even tried.
Basic economics guys.
Everybody’s income was lowered. […]
If only. In fact, only the income of people that actually played the game got lowered.
People that did 1-2 fotm’s a day, some dungeon paths now and then and may be a round of sw events still got some reasonable coin after all.
Now they get a kick in their balls.
The only ones that won’t really be affected at all are the TP flippers.
Basically a mirror of real life.
Is it possible to level a guild to 10 without HoT?
and are commendations still given as rewards for guild missions? (looks like no for WvW missions.. but what about pve?)
Just did duo Arah p2, it went abnormally fast, can someone with dps meter confirm boss hp being lower than before?
I just did a solo and Belka definitely went faster than usual. Also, though I had far from optimal fights with Alphard and Brie, I still finished them as fast as with better runs.
By the way, you can now walk deep into Alphard’s crates (I believe up to the barrier that blocks the balls of death).
And Lupi’s kick animation (or was it swipe) now has a trail.
Hit ‘M’ .. those new borderlands do not look integrated into the map at all. They just plopped the new BLs right on top of the map. Awful.
Anyone not buying HoT and still playing ?

Guys,
Please read the topic of this thread. The subject is: “If you did not purchase HoT, are you still playing (or will you continue to play) GW2?” Not, “Why I didn’t buy” or “What I think about the pricing,” or other off-topic comments. That’s not what the OP asked, and let’s respect this thread for the actual question that he or she posed.
We have a lot of threads in which you may share your opinions on those other subjects. This thread is asking a simple question: _If you didn’t purchase HoT, will you continue to play the core game. It’s an interesting question, and it deserves “breathing space” without tangential commentary and oft-repeated input.
Please stay on topic.
Thank you.
Looking at the first few sentences of the initial post, the OP is clearly looking for people to explain their reason(s) for not buying HoT: that’s why he gives a few sample reasons.
If someone is giving their honest reason for not buying the expansion and it sounds negative, deleting and infracting them is not the solution. That reflects poorly on how much confidence you have in your game.
