Thx for the post Colin! So many people are statistically misinformed on so many levels.

Erm he told us nothing of any real meaning in relation to the point he responded to.

I don’t know, below sounds like a near direct answer to the post he was responding too.

The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute.

Nope.

No that was a half truth. New player population grown from new f2p model. That’s not the same thing. Since the vets numbers have gone down, and over time the new f2p players will as well.

Half truth still equal half lie.

If you read the whole post, it was growing before it went free, focussing on the first and last part of the sentence, not just the middle.

PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched

What does “best weeks” even mean? Who knows? For example if it’s counted by the number of players entering the PvP lobby, then that stat is near meaningless as a large proportion of F2P players are going to enter to check it out.

Again, we’ve seen Anet twist stats in the past to make things sound better than they are, so you’d be foolish to trust their words without backup empirical evidence.

This. Remember when they counted the PvE famers in EotM as part of WvW? From past history, they’re doing the same here.

I’d say this is a separate thing. Maybe I’m mistaken, but there is a limited numbers of “hotjoin” servers. I don’t think that newer players are buying custom arenas and replenishing them with other new players, so the number that hotjoin base servers may have gotten is really limited.

On the side of EotM, it is different as there can be multiple EotM maps of 300~ players in each, as oposed as 20 maximum players on a hotjoin server.

All of this, refering to your quoted comment, Colin was refering exactly to the “false” affirmations another post made, saying sPvP playerbase has been decreasing, while it has been increasing since long time ago. In this context, what was the initial GW2 playerbase, doesn’t matter, as I said, in this context.

Also, while this is conected to the sky-rocket Colin talks about, he does tell that this coming week will be the best week Gw2 has had in their life compared even with launch. (“We anticipate this week will be the best week login/play wise PvP has ever had in the history of Gw2.”).

“Best week”… what does that even mean? Do you know what measure he’s using?

Fact is that they’ve tried in the past to mislead players with stats. So without seeing the raw numbers, It’d be wise to take anything they say with a big grain of salt… especially since the view from the ground is that PvP is not doing very well.

People who hide behind walls and siege when they have roughly equal numbers to the attackers, yeah, they’re not great fighters and are maybe even cowards, but walls and siege are essential for those many times when the defenders are vastly outnumbered. There’s no point in trying to defend anything if you don’t have a force multiplier like a well-placed AC when you’re greatly outnumbered. Defensive siege serves to level the playing field in such times. The attackers still have the advantage. They usually just lack the patience/knowledge/foresight to utilize their advantage.

In that situation siege should balanced around being used to buy time to allow a larger force to get there, not successfully defend because then when the conflict is scaled up to equal numbers siege becomes too powerful.

The state of population/coverage means that for almost every matchup, there’s maybe 4 hours a day when there’s even close to equal numbers. So basically you’re advocating K-train for the other 20 hours a day.

After some consideration and depending on the key drop rate increase, I’m strongly in favor of this change.

Previously, only the people who dedicated themselves to a divergent playstyle had a reasonable access to keys (and thus scraps and skins). With this change, the key distribution will be more even across the playerbase giving ALL players better access to scraps (and most likely increasing overall key sales as a much larger number of players will now be hitting the “1-2 scraps left to go” mark where buying a key is more enticing). The offset of course is that those players who previously dedicated themselves to the divergent playstyle will see a significant reduction in their access to keys. Overall, this is a good change for the game as a whole, the majority of players, and ArenaNet’s bottom line, despite the strong negative impact being felt by the former key farmers.

In my opinion this is 100% the reason why it was put in. It’s not to nerf the key farmers but to stop people who need just a bit more to complete a ticket, from finishing up up for free (in a timely manner). By closing off the free pathway, that leaves the gemstore pathway as the only way to get those last scraps and not run keys for a month or two.

This as a 100% gemstore driven decision.

Most players won’t be playing the game long enough to ever get to “1-2 scraps left to go.”

Find an LFG, get into their party, enter their instance (if they’re already in), exit the dungeon, leave party. Not the nicest thing to do, but it works.

Just get rid of this poorly thought out LOS change completely

…and have it so that whenever you get on an AC, your camera is fixed at a certain height with only the ability to rotate. How high? That can be tweaked.

This would put us roughly back in the state before the camera position changes (with the bonus of getting rid of "zoomhacking).

Just for posterity sake: Last year, when they changed how the PS worked with the NPE, people were claiming that the prices of Black lion skins would sky rocket due to the “nerf” of key farming. (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/RIP-keyfarming-merged/first)

From what I can tell, the price of the skins has remained pretty steady, the only major changes are when the item is no longer available.

So I don’t believe that this change will have too much of an effect on prices.
Plus with an increased drop rate in open world, it might actually help drive prices down, as essentially, you are introducing more keys, thus more skins, to the general population, rather then the small handful of key farmers.

That’s because people discovered they could keyfarm as much as before, just with the added cost of crafting to level 10. And skin prices did go up as a result of this new cost.

Let’s see how much key drops are increased. If it turns out to be a substantial increase then…..

If people are getting 3 keys in 3 years of play, then even a 10 times increase in the droprate isn’t going to get them close to one ticket a year.

And if Anet did increase the droprate by 10 times or more, you bet they would hype that fact like crazy.

When walling Lupi, do his swarms no longer spawn behind the wall?

What I’ve noticed recently is a lot of swarms spawn adjacent to the wall; they stay immobile and invulnerable for a while, but eventually come out to attack you. On my last run, I tried to notice if any swarms spawned behind the wall and I didn’t see any.

Mods are much more flexible because people can pick and choose exactly what version they prefer. Since we don’t have that luxury, we need a catch-all solution. Or customizable UI.

GW1 had a pretty much fully customizable UI. Not sure why GW2 has one that’s pretty much completely uncustomizable.

Look at all the players who’ve gotten 3 keys in 3 years of play. Even if they increased the drop rate by 10 times, the next 3 years still wouldn’t yield enough tickets to get one skin.

Maybe i’m dating myself, but i remember when the game play was the reward and anything in addition to that was a bonus.

I get 10 stacks and stay around to help finish events for other people. I still rez. I’ll get what I want at the end of 4 days and you know, if I don’t get that stuff, my life will somehow continue.

Rewards in a game? The stakes are too low to change who I am for that.

I hate that attitude. It’s a GAME. Helping people does not equal altruism in real life. If you want to help the world get off your sanctimonious attitude and go help the world in real life. Helping people in game does not make you a good person. Just like PvPing does not make you a murderer.

You’re spending your time on entertainment like the rest of us. Roleplaying a good character does not actually make you a good human being. That’s just a hilarious notion.

Your guild is probably going to be ok, but guilds smaller than yours are going to lose a big source of their guild commendations when guild challenges are locked behind instances (whereas currently several guilds can collaborate).

I imagine as time passes, the dungeons will get worse and worse as Anet does updates to the game without considering their effects on the dungeons.

For example, those volatile blossoms in TA stack poison like crazy — Anet obviously didn’t even bother to check what effects the condi changes would have on current content.

Of course, in this particular case, it’s not a gamebreaking problem, but I can imagine these things slowly adding up and killing the dungeon experience altogether.

But if the content’s not fun and there’s no rewards, that’s a recipe for disaster.

At least the new players get a good look at what the game is really like so that can temper their expectations.

What new player has all the waypoints in all three L20 zones, the ability to dps well enough to feel accomplished among a zerg of L80s, the gold to waypoint around the map to participate, and then the extra 10g on top of bloom tokens to purchase rewards?

They expect the 10g to come from F2P players buying gems. That’s how F2P games work.

Yeah honestly I dont believe this will have a negative effect on WvW as some are trying to claim. Let’s be real here; lvling without established toons is a PITA. The number of people who will actually go through this process just to troll will be low, not saying no-one will do it but this idea that everyone is going to bother lvling a second account to 60 just to mess with other servers is BS. Most internet trolls do not have this sort of dedication, if they can troll easily and without consequence sure they will do it, but when they have to put valuable time into something like leveling a free account most CBA.

Just one consistent troll on a server can spoil the fun of a lot of people and cause them to log off for the night/week. And we’re certainly getting a lot more than that.

Karka event was at least exciting because it was the first big, one-time event (plus the awesome rewards, if you were one of the many to get a precursor).

My biggest concern is that this can enable free to play accounts to exploit guild calming. The current in place prevention is the guild has to have a guild hall, and the idea is that guilds would only invite players that they trusted and only full accounts can make their own guild with a guild hall. The problem comes in when the free to play account joins a guild that WvW’s on another server that has players with HoT. Now can they claim objectives in the server they are on and fill them with ‘unwanted’ upgrades and prevent activation of tactics.

Either way defiantly something that ArenaNet needs to look at a bit, hopefully before release and any possible exploits get exploited.

This is absolutely happening. The hardcore have already gotten their spy/troll accounts to 60 and the more casual are working their way up as we speak.

You can make sure every upgrade is accessible to the public (non-guildies) or not.

If you do that, trolls/spies will waste them.

They’re basically removing features and making it harder on you if you don’t buy HoT (watch out for: “players with HoT can buy special arrow carts that require 10 fewer supplies” in a future update). Not surprising, considering F2P and how hard they’re trying to upsell HoT.

The blog post said that raids would have a chance of rewarding the legendary precursor armour pieces upon completion.

So… from what I understood there, no.

But my bet is that ascended armour will be very useful (or even a requirement?) in the raid instances, so you practically have to make ascended armour anyway before you’re able to make legendary armour anyway.

Ascended armor differs from exotic in a small enough amount of stats that I can’t imagine that would be what makes ascended armor required in raids.

HOWEVER, Ascended armor does have infusion slots while exotic don’t. If they want to make Ascended armor required, they could have raids require “raid infusions” .. kinda like agony infusions for fractals. But this would surely cause a huge amount of rage amongst the players.

If not, and you intend to get legendary armor, then you might want to skip ascended armor completely.

I think I’ll fit in very well in raids using tankier more intelligent strategies other than hunch in a corner and spam a few skills….

The tankier you are, the less intelligence your strategy requires. Which means you’ll probably want to stick with nomad’s gear.
