  1. You should seriously consider T8. It’s got space and there’s only one way out: keeping the tier together would be significantly easier.
  2. Don’t wait for HoT. Who knows when it releases (looks like very late 2015 at the moment)? Also, due to lack of care and effort, Anet generally fails to deliver when it comes to WvW… there’s a good chance the GvG arena will be a fail.

Currently there is a hacker from the Underworld server teleporting into towers and keeps, killing the lords and capping them. Anet is performing “Maintenance Work” at exactly the same time and I’m wondering if anything will come of it. I have the account name, however cannot post it. But what I want to know, Anet, is how can you not see this? If you’re doing maintenance work, can you not see what is going on?

This is a very common hack in WvW yet you don’t see in PvP. Why? Could it be that Anet has the capability for enforcement but uses it only for their precious PvP?

But this will all be fixed soon enough. After all, they promised WvW will be top priority when HoT comes out, right? Right?

For example, I was in SW and there were a pair of players named “R” and “K” camping around in Amber Sandfall. They did not move over a long period of time, and never contributed to the fight at all (and possibly up-scaled the enemies). They just stood on the little cliff the entire time. Once Breach was activated, they jumped down the hole, tagged the boss, and immediately left to go AFK outside the hole again. After the event had finished, “K” was bragging about the merits of being AFK and how they had been rewarded for doing absolutely nothing.

  1. They were not rewarded for events where they were AFK.
  2. They tagged the boss in the breach so according to Anet’s credit determination algorithm, they deserve the loot.
  3. Despite what the guy said, he didn’t literally do “absolutely nothing” for his loot: see #2.

The problem is not with these players. The problem is that Anet gives no incentive for them to “play” the game.

What incentives?

  1. Event rewards: pitiful.
  2. Mob loot: none.
  3. Fun: if something is fun enough, people will play despite low rewards (see WvW). But this content is, by now, really really old — and was never very compelling in the first place when it was new.

Come to think of it, instead of punishing these players, Anet should just be happy these guys even bother logging in at this point.

Not too worried about it. If they don’t bring back the event, then no coding needed.

If they do, it is a reasonable expectation that the bugs be fixed and tested for.

It was a reasonable expectation that bugs be fixed and tested for before/during the event also. But that didn’t happen.

I was also a reasonable expectation that they at least acknowledge the bug/exploits that affected an entire week of WvW. But that didn’t happen either.

Working as intended. Kind of.

The devs wanted to improve FOV overall (particularly for PvE) so they made the FOV change. That it now allows you to see into every tower is a side-effect that they no doubt didn’t forsee because they just don’t care much about WvW (see total lack of action and even response to golem-week-exploit debacle for example).

Some bosses don’t give a kitten about Condi. So make sure to swap to Power build when and where it happens.

Alphard, Crystalline Entity, Subject Alpha, both end bosses of Underground Facility fractals.

I’ve always found this to be such a random immunity. “Let’s make this guy immune to condis because, why not?”

I’m convinced that challenging group content will be more VW. But if not, then looking at their most recent content, I’m guessing it’ll be a lot of gameplay based on mechanics that play independent of your character:

So either the forced usage pre-defined builds (like all those instances playing as Caithe in the Living Story), or vortex-crystal fragility mechanics like in Glint’s Lair.

The advantage for SW over actually doing fractals is that you can do it on autopilot: you can catch up on TV, podcasts, or whatever, while using only a third of your brain autoattacking in SW. This can save you a lot of time.

Here people mark up the walls, and those standing on the walls can’t get near to cast down because marks extend beyond just the side of the walls.

Build AC halfway up the stairs. Then YOU get the advantage.

Easily destroyed by an ac outside using zoom hacks.

Zoom hacks? With the new camera, you don’t even need zoom hacks anymore. You can legit wipe all siege in nearly every tower using the new camera settings. Obviously Anet didn’t bother to think about how the change would affect WvW.

Could be nice if they allowed you to get a stacking bonus for continuing inside of fractals. From 51 onwards you only have 1 daily,, they could add in that you get an extra 5% of the base reward for a fractal shard if you continue on without returning to dessa’s lab. Then you’d have a reason to do a 95,96,etc.. and run a set of shards instead of 1-3 and done after 30mins.

This would be cool.

The only thing I can think of is that you had less time left on your buffs than you thought you had.

I would have said the same, except I ate and took the consumable when I entered the dungeon (100% sure of this) and when I died, half an hour hadn’t passed (looking at chat logs).

Anyone had this happen?

  • I had food and consumable while solo in a dungeon,
  • I died and went AFK for a few minutes (no more than 5 minutes).
  • Upon return I wp’d and noticed both my buffs were gone. They could have disappeared before this, but this is when I noticed it.
  • I’m pretty sure I had at least 5 minutes left on my food and I definitely had over 30 minutes on my 1 hr consumable.

It seems the argument for the current RNG system is that the game is so casual there are no other forms of prestige, so taking this one away leaves the game with nothing (PvE-wise).

IMO this is not too far from the truth. I’ve found that a lot of people enjoy the skins precisely because of the suffering they had to go through to get them. It’ll be interesting to see how people view these skins once they’re easier to get.

In any case, I think something that might’ve worked is to have the RNG ease up as you do more runs — so you’d have more chance to get a skin the more runs you do. This would be secret to the players of course — so they feel like they finally hit the jackpot instead of having had the skin handed to them.

It’s a typical psychological trick. But don’t be fooled, that relief/surge you get from when the RNG favors you is as much a product of being done with bad luck and a game withholding something from you.

I’m a big proponent of not lengthening a game with tedium substituting for actual content.

If you are skilled enough to beat any game in 20 hours instead of 60 hours, for example, there’s nothing wrong. A game should only gate you by giving you a skill check. Busywork grinds on content that has long grown stale for you are not good content. In that case you might ask yourself why you’re playing a game that assigns you activities that resemble chores.

I think in this sense pvp players are rather privileged as unlike pve players, they can generate their own spontaneous content while we PvE players need to wait until Anet realizes it’s been 3 years of no meaningful updates to dungeons. So all the pve players have to keep themselves busy is the skins/aesthetics grinds.

Anet isn’t even close to putting out the amount of content needed to keep PvE players satisfied, so all they have is grind, RNG, and time-gating to artificially stretch out the length of the game. Doesn’t look like HoT is gonna have much content either — much less small-man content.

I no longer get a clone from illusionary riposte (sword 4). The skill appears to work as it used to, except no clone appears. Anyone else seeing this? I’m using scepter/sword and scepter 2 works fine.

The more you ask for an event week, the more chance we get “Flame Ram Week,” where flame rams do triple damage, can move, and require no supply. And don’t forget the inevitable bug where the ironhide buff stays on permanently.

There’s 0 chance the populations will end up balanced if you leave it to the player themselves with no hard rules to enforce balance.

You won’t balance it either way. Population is constantly changing in this game and it will never be a fixed value. People stop playing, new people buy the game, new people enter WvW as a game mode, the list goes on… and on… and on…So don’t you think it would be better to search for a solution that doesn’t revolve around a metric that is so volatile and inconsistent? Thats all I am saying, there has got to be a way to bring balance without trying to create “fixed” populations because no servers are ever going to have a population that doesn’t change on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis.

It will indeed never be “perfectly” fixed, however, perfection isn’t what we should be looking at. Rather, prevention and deterrence are what we should be looking at. Without a cap in place, one of the servers would already have been reaching the capacity to queue 24/7. If you think such thing won’t occur, it just means that you have not played enough MMOs to know what kind of disaster players capable of creating.

The server cap is absolutely necessary and there is nothing wrong with it. One can only blame themselves to be at the top servers which naturally expected to be full.

Those SEA players have a good point though. The player population has attritioned to a point where there’s not enough in their timezone to support more than one tier. They simply can’t spread out and still have fun.

I think their best solution is just to mass-transfer down to T8 where there’s likely enough room for them all. Then they just have to make sure all the servers in T8 stay T8 — not too hard since T1 players have plenty of experience with that.

This is a follow up to the situation on TC.

Impatient much? Your expectations are unrealistic: you can’t believe that a mere three weeks is enough for them to deal with this, especially since this isn’t something that can be solved with a simple press of a button. Give them some time. They are quite busy right now, you know, what with HoT and all.

Besides, they already promised that WvW would be number one topmost priority! after HoT launches. And they’re not the type of devs that go back on promises, right? So what more can you ask for?

Five or six months down the line, when WvW is number one on their agenda, they’ll surely take care of your troll. Just have a little patience.

I am concerned about the label of “medium” population status in regards to these rock bottom T8 servers… It is extremely misleading as my own experiences being totally alone, me myself and I on certain BLs. I hope ANet tends to that…

Medium is the new low and high is the new medium. Same as with softdrink sizes and grade inflation. It’d look bad to have a server with “low” population, and with Anet, it’s all about looks.

TLDR: “We’re looking into it.” It’s the same statement we’ve heard many times, from Devon (what, two years ago?) to all the various community managers who’ve posted here.

And looking at Anet’s WvW history, they’ll announce an untested, poorly thought-out solution out of the blue. In short: “no white swords” part 2.

Speaking of “no white swords.” With all the boasting of adopt-a-dev, it’s actual legacy is the announcement of permanent “no white swords,” that the community had to explode at before it got reduced to a “test.”

Hint: when you’re out of touch with how the game mode is enjoyed, it’s a good idea to go through community members before implementing major changes because they’ll have thoughts about them that you never would have had.

(Ok, I admit, at least he didn’t ask for comments as to what the problems of WvW are, but this is the extent of the progress over 2+ years.)

The difference between this and grinding is you can’t get the AR by grinding other parts of the game. When somebody has the AR you know they played a lot of fractal runs and therefore they are experienced at fractals.

You can certainly get AR by grinding other parts of the game since agony infusions are on the TP.

In any case, gating by gear is the lowest, laziest kind of development.

The complete silence on the fallout from the golem event is pretty unacceptable in my opinion though. I would expect a word on any event of the sort regardless of outcome.

Was there any communication about the event between Anet and the specialists?

I personally doubt minipets count towards the cap, but silly as it sounds, it’s not completely inconceivable.

They do seem to take up more server time than you’d expect. For example, remember when ranger runes gave their bonus if you had a minipet? This indicates that they might not be coded as simply as we’d expect.
