… sooo what do you guys think the new rotation will be after the loss of opportunist?
C&D, Backstab, full chain, full chain, C&D, Backstab… and so on, to take full advantage of Lead Attacks?
I like female more, but I like t3 human more on male because of that embarassing underboob. Plus, I like my female thief to be flat chested but that armor actually increases her… size greatly.
Last Refuge should be baseline.
trololololo
I don’t roleplay and I don’t understand what kind of enjoyment people get from it. That being said, I respect those who like it.
Unfortunately, people thend to mock and laugh at stuff they don’t understand. That’s not the internet, that’s the human race. And norn too. Understand their weakness, ignore them and move on.
Thank you, I think I missed that part from the livestream.
So, as we know with the new specializations system stat bonuses are being removed from traitlines. To compensate this, base stats will be raised and equipment will provide higher bonuses.
Now, I have a question, what about class specific stats, the ones assigned to the fifth traitline? Will still be possible to increase those stats somehow, like for instance Empathy for Ranger or Cunning for Thief?
So with specializations thieves will lose Opportunist and Infusion of Shadows, meaning a 6/6/2/0/0 won’t be able to backstab indefinetly and a 6/6/0/0/2 will lose some backstabs, maybe adding a Wild Strike to the rotation. Do you think this will affect thief in PvE? And do you think the ability to cap 3 traitlines will compensate for the loss?
Suggestion: erase Last Refuge from existance once and for all, give us back Infusion of Shadows as a minor instead.
Interesting, according to this survey thief is more common than warrior and guardian.
I agree with the OP. And while they’re at it, they should fix that weird bug on warrior that causes them to have 18000 hp and high armor. And that bug on guardian that blocks attacks for you.
I’m trying to find a different weapon set to give thief a bit of fresh air for me as far as PvE goes, pressing 5, backstabbing, and then AA until reveal is off can get a bit boring.
P/P unload? Seems like it could be a ton of damage with Quick Pockets and another set of P/P on weapon swap
S/P pistol whip? This could be pretty sweet
S/D flanking strike? This one seems like it could be a lot of fun.
Thanks
If you wanna play it just for fun, try out 5/6/0/0/3 with S/P, Invigorating Precision and Signet of Malice and enjoy nigh immortality.
I understand the pros you said, but keep in mind that game development is also about money… if they are ok with money for adding new content it’s good, but maybe they aren’t as much ok for another work which would be required by implementing DX11, maybe it’s just too expensive compared to their income… and if you would have to decide if you invest into improving gameplay or improving engine, it would be hard decision…
However, improving the engine improves frame rates, which improves gameplay.
Improvisation is a pretty powerful trait in dungeon setting, it doesn’t need to change in my opinion.
I use it all the time… it feels like winning the lotto when I get two caltrops in a row. Thought maybe to replicate that on the item side. The damage bonus is just boring.
I was actually talking about the +10% damage with conjured weapons.

Just a silly little topic. We have seen a one handed katana datamined from HoT expansion, so I ask, what’s the most fitting sword for your thief?
I’ll definetly stick with the rapier, I have Bonetti for day and Faren for night. I love rapiers due to how lightweight and fast they look and I think they fit thief quite well. I also love the well adorned guard. Plus, the most damaging attacks on thief have a trust animation, like Crippling and Larcenous Strike.
Meanwhile, Katanas are associated with ninjas (and samurais), but they don’t have much appeal on me due to how commonly you see those things.
So what will it be for you, rapier or katana?
For me victory is more about self improvement than hoarding. I’ll consider I won the day I’ll be able to solo arah path 2, up to now I can only get to Lupicus only to get owned.
Turn off camera shake if you want to actually play in first person!
I just use first person when I’m in a city anyway, o to look up close my firends’ characters, always wanted to do that!
You sure you weren’t using any food before patch? Or maybe the specific gear you’re using got nerfed, I use full zerker and the stats are still the same. Or maybe they changed scaling at different levels, I was talking about lvl 80 stats not underscaled
(edited by Lucky Shot.7650)
Mhm, had 69% before patch (signet buffed of course) now I have 69,33%. Crit damage was 226% now it’s 226,something%…
Why do you say it has been nerfed?
Seriously, now critical chance calculates (or displays) decimals! Check it out!
I’m having a blast with first person view! XD
We know we will get 9 weeks of specialization reveals (but we don’t know when). In addition there will probably be a week dedicated to guild halls and maybe one dedicated to the mysterious ‘challenging group content’. Furthermore, closed beta has been said to start very soon after Rezzed.
When will we start to learn about specializations?
I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
Uh what did I say? O_o
“We know we will get 9 weeks of specialization reveals (but we don’t know when). "
lol yeah sorry, I just got excited and asked away without reading the rest of the post! XD

In open world with large zerg events, you want mobs to not drop loot to encourage players to complete the event rather than just tagging.
… or encourage them to go and play another, more rewarding, event, like one where mobs drop a crapload of good stuff! =/

My problem is: you do Melandru chain in orr, you end up with a lot of loot and gain a lot of money.
You do one assault chain and get to kill the boss in Silverwastes, you gain almost nothing. It’s way more rewarding to just Chest train.
I know it’s a game and it should be all about fun and I agree that people should actually play an event to beat it instead of just race to tag, but if you want people to clear the events you should reward them in a meaningful way to do so otherwise the content won’t be played for long. A good example is when people refuse to clear an event chain because failing it is more rewarding: people should gain more by clearing the event instead of failing it.
Also yeah, if enemies don’t drop loot why the hell are we building Magic Find?
Topic. What if trash mobs in the expansion new zones weren’t to drop loot and instead the new zones behaved like the Silverwastes?
Thief is actually a wonderful class for dungeon content. It sports top-notch dps, a lot of active defenses to stay alive, stealth to skip, best blast finisher ingame and best user of conjured weapons.
You have to understand that thief relies on active defenses to stay alive. You don’t have heavy armor or 18000 HP to do the job for you. Dodging is one of the best active defenses ingame, and thieves get a lot of dodges thanks to Wild Strike, so ideally you should never run out of energy unless you waste dodges, so it’s very important to know the encounter and choose the right time to get out of the way.
Blind is king against packs of trash mobs, you can blind everything but defiant enemies. When a pack is attacking you and you’re stacked, drop Blinding Powder (S/P 5) or Smoke Screen and a lot of their attacks will miss.
Stealth is not that useful in pve, you basically use it just to Backstab and drop some aggro from time to time.
Use D/D for bosses and S/P for trash. When fighting bosses, place yourself behind the target, Cloak and Dagger, Backstab, execute one AA chain and one Double Strike, rinse and repeat. For trash use S/P and drop Black Powder and see their attack miss, also use Signet of Malice and if you are in trouble Pistol Whip to fully heal. Always bring your shortbow so you can blast finish fire fields with Cluster Bomb.
I advise you to start off with this build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZEQRAoY8al0MpxpFOx0JsPNRLRtdHEdjouXQA0XVA-TBCBwAGV+JRJI29HwpiDgTCQK9D6UPIwTAAA-e
It gives you extra HP, extra dodges (like unlimited dodges thanks to Wild Strike and Feline Grace) and quite a bit of healing thanks to Invigorating Precision. Assassin’s Signet improves your damage and once the boss reaches 25% HP pop it and then spam Heartseeker. Signet of Agility also improves your damage and it doubles as a condition removal and it fully refills your endurance and your teammates’, it’s really a wonderful skill. Use Shadowstep for break stun, since I assume you’re going to run AC at first you’re goint to need it against knockdowns, and condition cleanse. Use signet of malice when when stacking, and Withdraw when not. You can swap Shadowstep for Smoke Screen, if you need extra blinds, Shadow Refuge when you need to skip and don’t feel like swapping to shortbow (yeah I do that often because I’m a lazy kitten) and I also like to use Ambush Trap to have a little bit of extra DPS.
Once you feel comfortable with this build and manage to survive easily, swap out Valkyrie and go full berserker. Then, when you’re used to run full berserker, swap invigorating precision to executioner, and once you manage to survive without the extra healing, swap to this build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZEQRAoY8al0MpxpFOx0JsPNRLRtdHEdjIXzg2XQAEiA-TxBBwAY3fQiSQjK/AcSAwp+TK9DBeCAAA-e
You’ll have some less endurance since you lose Feline Grace but will gain a lot of damage and once you manage to survive you’ll never go back to previous builds. Thief takes a lot of practice to actually be decent in dungeon but once you manage to survive and deal a lot of damage it’s in my opinion the most satisfying class to use.

Am I the only one that couldn’t care less about revenant and instead is very interested about specializations? We couldn’t even get a glimpse about them and this makes me really sad.
i’m also interested. I imagine that revenant was chosen to be shown first due to hype, the fact it’s just one profession instead of 8, and lastly they might also like to show the revenant spec along with the other 8 when the time comes. (doesn’t make sense the show the specialization if you don’t have a basic understanding of the core class.)
Good point.
Am I the only one that couldn’t care less about revenant and instead is very interested about specializations? We couldn’t even get a glimpse about them and this makes me really sad.
Notice how it’s snowballing into absurdity.
Part of the reason why it is doing so is that you’re only focused on stealth. Let’s tweak it, and forget about the rest of the game. That’s already absurd.
But now that you’ve vented, and have seen that there are others that are also by your side… Do you at least feel a bit better? Or still irritated?
I’m irritated moreso than ever, because I have a legitimate complaint that is being dismissed as rubbish simply due to the fact that there have been so many frivolous complaints about stealth in the past.
Enlighten me: how is your frivolous complaint about stealth less frivolous then the others came before yours?
Let’s just remove stealth, evades, blinds from thieves and stealth, clones from mesmers to let scrubs kill them easily and be happy.
Why don’t you just go into key bindigns and bind “Weapon Skill 2” to f1 and “Profession skill 1” to #2, then run Longbow? There, now your f1 skill deals more damage than warrior’s, congratulations you’re now overpowered!
(EDIT: and need a nerf)
(edited by Lucky Shot.7650)
Get this guy reasonong: Eviscerate is OP because is bound to f1 key; anybody who disagrees is a warrior fanboy. Flawless.
How often are we going to get a new piece of information about the expansion?
And when will be the first time they tell us about it?
I think it’s fair to expect 5 specializations per class. The Druid is clearly an embodyment of the Nature Magic trait line, so I think we can expect one specialization and one weapon per trait line. This is also an easy way to come up with stuff for each specialization: the specialization itself gets weapon and utility skills based on the themes of each traitline.
5!? that seems like a lot maybe too much or are you thinking its just the lines? I think we may see a some what 3 class system from this specialization but i guess we could see the pentagram system where you split up into healing support cc tank and dps. To have all 5 in this expansion maybe a bit much to ask for though.
Yes they are a lot, however they’ve been working on this for two years. Also, having five specializations wouldn’t be very hard to develop, assuming you create skills based on your current trait lines thus drawing inspiration from them. Dunno, maybe I’m just making up excuses to back up my dreams!
Dunno why, but I have the feeling that the anti-expansion crowd is going to convert in the this-is-no-real-expansion crowd.
Yes.

Thief = Rogue getting Longbows and the second if there will be two from begin on being Saboteur, getting Maces
Assassin, please.
But… but… Living Story can give us an expansion worth of content for free! Traditional expansions are not good because you play them and exhaust the content in a week so you don’t have anything else to do!
Pffft, you guys get too excited about a couple of features we still know almost nothing abOH MY GOD SPECIALIZATIONS SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Yeah the issue I have with the “getting an advantage over other player” is that it’s quite a broad rule. For instance, my mouse had 2 thumb buttons, and I used them for 8 and 9 utility skills. This already could be meant as an advantage over other players, since I have 2 more easily accessible buttons. Having toggle mouse 2 bound to a keyboard press would free up a mouse button, giving me one more button over players that only use a classic 2 buttons+mouse wheel mouse. And what about players having a real gaming mouse? Should they be banned just upon logging in with said mouse connected to their pc? And what about people with faster connections, better computers, bigger screens and so on? It’s quite a wide definition to make a judgement call that could potentially kill an account with hundreds of hours in.
The second question I was asking myself before trying out said “mouse look” macro toggle is: if the developers didn’t add a mouse look toggle in almost 3 years maybe they don’t want players to use said toggle for some reason.
My problem is, I had to buy a new mouse and it’s quite lightweight and small. Playing with holding mouse 2 all the time is very uncomfortable and really prevents me from moving the mouse with accuracy, so I thought about getting a program to macro mouse 2 hold to avoid such inconvenience.
(edited by Lucky Shot.7650)
Is this information not readily accessible? People come here and ask about macros like once a week, and it’s the same answer every time. The rule of thumb:
Mapping one keypress to more than one action is forbidden.
Do with that information what you will. Personally, I just play the game as is. Also, you’re probably not going to get banned for anything you don’t get reported for…
Yeah I did know that 1 key=1 action. But it doesn’t say anything about holding a key for you.
Also, of course I did a research before posting, but I didn’t find an answer to my exact same question otherwise I wouldn’t ask.
So… HOLDING a key for you is ok then?
Is it ok to program a macro to your mouse/keyboard to enable mouse look? What I’m basically asking is if programming a macro so as one button strike holds down right mouse and another strike releases right mouse, effectively enabling mouse look, would lead to a ban.
By extension, would binding an action skill, for example auto attack, to right mouse lead to a ban?
And, an unrelated-ish question, would binding engineer’s grenade kit auto attack to a macro that hits your “1” key twice a second as long as you keep the button pressed, effectively making engi’s grenade kit’s “1” work like a real AUTO attack, lead to a ban?
I’m bored. I’ve been taking regular breaks from the game, then coming back, but each time I come back I get bored faster. I used to play every LS episode, with the last one, Seeds of Truth, I didn’t even bother, I logged in, unlocked it then logged out. Now they give free stuff to log in but even free stuff can’t make me log in on daily basis.
The game feels very stagnant, we’re doing the same stuff for two years now bar some minor exception. I honestly can’t understand how people keep telling the game can still be fresh. So I log in and what do I do? Go chop X trees in kryta? Farm a dungeon I did a billion times before? Do a 10 mins Living Story instance? What’s the plan, keep people entertained by changing the way they do their dailies (that consist in trivial tasks) and by 10 mins instances?
What will happen if an expansion doesn’t come out? I’ll be logging in less often as the time goes by, and one day I’ll just forget about the game.
(edited by Lucky Shot.7650)
Dailies and Living Story: best endgame ever.
d/d auto should deal more than a frontal bs. s/p does less dps than dagger auto but s/p evades and stuns with skill 3
Yes but BS triggers revealed training.
I’m aware of cleave on sword, I was thinking about boss fights. I think I came to the conclusion that d/d with front stabs deals more damage anyway by testing it on golems in the mists, but I may be wrong. Thanks for the answers anyway.
