Here I have a bleedstacker build which does use 1 trap.

It’s quite an easy build, but down traps on opponents to disrupt and damage. Keep stacking bleeds with your short bow. Use Sharpening Stone at the correct moment to apply even more pressure. But as with most ranger builds you will have to rely on your dodges and Lightning Reflexes for defense.

Now for power roaming at the moment there is only one option that is really viable. It’s Longbow/Greatsword spec. High damage. I never run it before myself so I wouldn’t know the build exactly. I think you can find it if you google it.

I’m currently testing a Longbow Axe/Axe build but I’m not satisfied yet :p

Now let’s move on to utilities.

Muddy Terrain:
This skill will go down first on bomb area to provide the initial immobilize and cripple and there will probably be more bombs so save this for those occasions.

Quickening Zephyr:
Either used to burst or to break stun and get the hell out of there. Remember your healing is reduced by 50% so do not heal while this is ticking.

Lightning Reflexes:
This is a skill you will need to master. This will save your life and keep your vigor up. Use it to roll through heavy damage or when getting bursted.

Rampage as One:
I’d use this after the bomb is finished so I can keep fury and swiftness up to chase targets. Also the stability is great for when u need to push through somewhere. So use this carefully. You will have perma fury with weapon swapping and swiftness from warhorn/allies. So don’t be afraid to just use this for the stability. Yes Entangle is kitten. Only a complete nobhead will get caught by it.

Last but not least! I’ll discuss a bit about the gear. In this area there is some space for you to be free in how you want it to be but I will give some pointers.

The gear:
I gear myself rather damaging but still have a decent HP pool and armor. Cavalier’s is a great set in my opinion because crit damage will still remain. Now I keep myself around 30% critical chance because with perma fury it will be 50 anyways.
Now I think this gear setup is on the edge of how far you can go damage wise. I wouldn’t go any further and actually I might probably go a bit more tanky. The damage you put out will still be fine and don’t forget you are focusing on CC as well.

For sigils I take Sigil of Hobbling on longbow for longer cripples. I thought about Sigil of Ice but it’s not AoE.

On axe have the superior sigil of Fire for a nice AoE damage proc.
War horn will have my stacking sigil (bloodlust) and later change warhorns for 1 with sigil of battle.

On to runes, I felt runes of Ice might be worth trying out since the damage modifier is pretty nice because you can proc it yourself on axe and in bombs there should be chill fields as well. However this is a weird pick I know that. Other runes that I think are viable are Runes of the Sanctuary, Runes of the Traveler and of course Runes of Melandru.

Of course there is other options hence I’m posting this. I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks for the read, hope u enjoyed it and I hope I didn’t forget anything.

I’ve been a big ranger/hunter/archer fan since forever. I’ve played them in almost every game. Now I am a PvPer/GvGer. So I run a a lot of guild raids in WvW focussing on open field fighting.

Now from especially in GvG in Guild Wars 2, Rangers have absolutely no place. In raids? About the same. Though I always keep theory crafting about rangers and I’ve come up with this build.

Now before I go into the traits let me explain the role of this build. WvW and raids are a lot about bombing and CC’ing the enemy inside them. I’ve made this build to CC enemies inside the bomb area for a successful bomb.

Now let’s take a look at the traits.

Marksmanship:
-Predator’s Instinct, a good form of CC combined with barrage on bomb area.
-Piercing Arrows, Do I need to explain this?
-Eagle Eye, Now this one is for increased longbow damage and range, which can be nice. However I’ve my doubts whether Remorseless or even spotter might be better, because after you’ve bombed and you are on cooldown. The ranger can go snipe a squishy for back line focus. Having Remorseless will keep vulnerability stacked on him because you (hopefully) killed/killing people in the bomb. Spotter will increase the precision of your other back line harassers. (Thoughts on this would be great)

Skirmishing:
-Primal Reflexes, For more vigor which a Ranger really needs. Combined with Lightning Reflexes and Natural Vigor, you will have great endurance regen.
-Quick Draw, for an increase in DPS on longbow.

Wilderness Survival:
-Wilderness Knowledge, Obvious choice here to reduce CD on your utilities. About signets. I don’t like them, they have a large CD and effects are minor even when fully traited.

Nature Magic:
Nature’s Protection, Very good trait to mitigate serious burst damage from whatever. (No one likes you thieves)

Now moving on to weapon sets and how to use them.

Longbow:
Obviously the longbow will be used to Barrage cc on bomb area. Also rapid fire can be used to damage in the bomb. However I prefer to work as a harasser and start sniping squishies ( Necro’s/Ele’s/Mesmers) or the opponents harasser squad and applying pressure to them by using my auto attacks from range, rapid fire.

Use your stealth to reposition yourself and get out of tough situations. Mastering this skill is important I think, because a ranger has little escapes/panic buttons.

Point blank shot can also be very powerful to save friendly squishies under attack from harrassers or yourself. Also great for holding chokes and pushing people of cliffs etc.

Axe/Warhorn:
I use this weapon set to harass even more, axe auto will hit decently and chill on them will also kitten them up. Warhorn 4 will apply more single target pressure aswell and the 5 skill will buff your allies.

Now I’ve debating about the off set and I know there are other options who can do their job well. I will go explain them a bit more.

Axe/Axe:
A huge favorite of mine, just because it looks brutal. But also the skills if used correctly are quite good. Path of scars will do serious damage when you are single target focusing someone and can also pull in 5 guys into your melee train for almost certain kills. Whirling Defense is a rare skill, a lot of people don’t like it because it’s stationary. However I would rarely use it offensively. I’d use it for regroups to reflect ranged damage and Whirl Finishers. It’s also great to cover a group of downed who are being ranged pressured so you can keep them safe.

Axe/Dagger:
The dagger will provide with another dodge which is always good to mitigate damage.
The cripple will improve your chasing power when single target focusing.

Yeah I guess greatsword would be better. But I’m lazy and just want to pew pew from distance lol.

Hey man. If your gonna do 100% maps (hearts n stuff) for levels your best bet is to take. Longbow and Axe/Warhorn. Use some tanky pets which you send first and then you just shoot them to death with your longbow.

Traitwise I’d probably start getting I’d go something like 0/20/10/0/0 for your first 30 points and go and go 30/20/10/0/0 after for another 30. With the last 10 in nature magic when almost done.

Utilities probably: Lightning Reflexes, Sic em and signet of the Hunt.

Elite: Rampage as One.

Hello i have same problem since last patch about 5 pm.. every 5-10 minutes crashed, nothing work – reinstal, repair, nothing … and must manually restart pc every time because its just stuck.. Is possible fix it soon please? I’m sad

Ofcourse Rangers are more of a roamer/dueling class but they have a certain viability in WvW. Including longbow builds. However like the above stated. There is not much anti burst for rangers. So if you are going to play a DPS Longbow build you probably will have to take sword/x for the dodges and mobility. Rangers don’t have any real PANIC button. So your survivability relays totally on your positioning and dodging. Does this make ranger kitten? No, It’s just very hard to play.

While using the Signet of The Wild paired with Signet of the Beastmaster (trait), you will get the active effect aswell, which making you large and giving you stability/more damage.

That’s all good and jolly but! You are unable to interact with objects, pick up/stomping. Basically your F key doesn’t work.

Anyone that can tell me if this is intentional or bug?

What are you thoughts of the new Arrow Carts?
AC’s being able to shoot everywhere in the towers. Acs from stonemist fingers shooting all the way to the outer. Arrows carts, arrowcarts everywhere.
And not to forget, they hurt like hell.

Heh. Even Khalifa will tell you that you can’t really run that effectively without a solid team. That build is nice on a good team, but there are better bursters out there. The quickness nerf actually hurt it quite a bit too. Just like everything else Necro can do if you build your team around it you can make it work.

Most teams won’t invest that much effort to make it work. They’ll just take a shatter mes, D/P thief or whatever else is easy to come by. Both of which, by the way, have superior burst on shorter CD combined with better survivability and mobility. When you consider that Thieves have Shadow Refuge and Mesmer has Illusion of Life even the argument to bring the Necro for rez is kinda weak.

We were raiding on Kodash yesterday and got a call for help “Whole Kodash zone attacking south bay, 4 trebs, wall 10%, need assistance” People on the border made slots for us. We switched. We went there and killed you after 30min of intense fighting. But we do blob right ? We were always attacking from a different side or engaging you alone without the rest of the people. But we still blob right ? When CoN raids, we a l w a y s move aside from all other groups to keep the pressure on other locations. We roam in search for some good fights. But we still blob aye ?

SPVP is where necromancers have the most problems. In PVE they are fine, and in WvW is where they shine.

To be precise, necromancers do not shine in WvW. They shine in zergs. Once you move outside of the Babysitter Blob™ the exact same dynamics that you see in PvP begin to apply across the board.

Although most WvW is zergs, you are neglecting to mention that sPVP and fighting in WvW are completely different, even if it is 1 vs. 1. For one, in WvW there are more builds to choose from. Second, sPVP is about level skirmishes at points where WvW is more about assaulting/defending keeps and towers and choke points. Third, individual kills and the ability to “pwn noobs” means almost nothing in the long run of WvW whereas in sPVP that ability is quite important. Fourth, in WvW is it a lot easier to group up, even with just 3 or so people, whereas in sPVP the multiple objectives makes soloing an important skill to have. Fifth, in large scale fights the situational tools are far more useful since the chances of that “situation” arising approaches 100%. All in all, even away from the zerg WvW is almost nothing like sPVP.

Sure, in sPVP the inability to kill your target means less team points, both from the lack of kill and the lack of control on that point. In sPVP the ability to escape is important since you can quickly run to support another fight, where you’ll be far more useful than in a stalemate. Sure, in sPVP the ability to fight off more than one player at a time is important due to how the chaos of the field leads to players ganging up on each other more often. But none of that is true in WvW.

I hear about thieves who run zerker builds who try to burst someone down. Either they fail to kill their opponent and run away, or they manage to kill their foe and maybe get a loot bag. Either way, that thief has accomplished very little in WvW. If a thief attacks you and then gets away, that is a victory. Your goal is not to pwn n00bs. The goal is to capture outposts and defend towers, and the necromancer’s tools are excellent at that. Those are where all the points are acquired, so doing something other than that is an exercise in futility. In the zerg, the necromancer’s unavoidable AoE damage and support abilities are great, and net way more loot than if they ran around by themselves trying to burst down random lone players.

The odd thing is that I usually do pwn n00bs in WvW on the rare occasions I am attacked while by myself. The only time I’m ever solo’d is when I’m trying to capture outposts by myself, and someone manages to attack me from behind. The best way to get anything other than a thief is to use the chills from chillblains, dark path, spectral grasp, chill of death, and spinal shivers. In all probability, the necromancer is running multiple forms of those, and also has cripple from grasping dead or locust swarm or unholy feast. Even against a thief these are quite useful, since thieves rarely have an answer for chill and cripple. Using DS at strategic points is important, since if used correctly the combination of things like the chill, the fear, the high direct damage of the auto attack, retaliation, and instant enfeebling blood can down something quickly, being both and offensive and defensive maneuver. On offensive it can counter-attack and down zerker thieves quickly, and on defensive it can waste the mesmer’s shatter and apply conditions to them at the same time. Doing things like using epidemic on the nearby NPC that you’re fighting can sometimes drop multiple players in one go, giving them 20 stacks of bleed in an instant.

I also don’t have problems escaping fights. This might be from my tendency to main the staff in WvW, but should a situation arise that I don’t want to be in I just run away while laying down marks and wells behind me, making chasing me suicidal. The chill from Chillblains and the condition transfer form putrid mark really help, since any disability they throw on me gets sent right back at them. I really don’t know what the complaint is. Even against thieves who pop in and out of stealth a lot, you can just lay down marks for protection or use unholy feast to escape + grant retaliation, depending on what set you use. Heck, shadow refuge basically paints a gigantic target that says “Marks and Wells here!”.

Noone can blame the whole server by actions of few. Noone can take all responsibility for the actions of people on it. Neither Lelith for Deso nor Me for Sfr.

Big shoutout to [Unit] and [GoD] as the only guilds that wanted to give us some fair fights and tried to break free away from randoms for the past 3 days. (Speaking from CoN PoV)

Tier 2 servers all now on equal footing. We have no night guilds. We have similar amount of people but some of us got more WvW centered guilds. All 3 servers blob sometimes. If a commander can’t handle something, he will blob to save the location. You can’t blame neither Kodash nor Desolation for that. SFR is also blobbing if our guilds are resting. Who is to blame for that ? You can’t tell people to stop playing. All we can do is make an effort to unblob while we’re online.

As for Desolation’s night capping. If they do not have any night guilds then that means they make an effort of staying up late to do something for the server. You can’t tell them not to play right ? If it is with a different intention than Visunah. It is acceptable in my opinion.

(to explain Vs intention: Avoid combat in prime time, protect everything with 350 arrow carts per gate. Wake up in the night to take everything without resistance because we’re walking lootbags at prime)

More small scale (25-30) group fights. Less kitten forum drama.

Very nice to see SFR welcoming us so kindely and instead of calling each other blobbers or nightcappers, keeping it realistic and nice. This match up so far has been great. Kudos to both Kodash and SFR. We are having a blast. I am hoping we can keep this match up going for some time.

Also just do what I did level all characters to 80 it will increase your fun time and increase interresr in the game if only playing 1 main.

Im not gonna write all the pros and cons of those profs otherwise id be writing all day.

Judging from what you like to do either warrior will fit or thief. You wont take damage hough you will evade it. An other tanky class capable of doing pew pew is the necromancer. Ill probably get flamed for saying necros can pew pew but kitten please i woll wreck you in spvp :p
