Why not give tokens in story mode ?

Mad Rasputin.7809

I haven’t ran across a story mode that I would say was easier than explore mode. I have gone back and done story mode a few times for AC, CM, and HOTW. I would say that story mode is just as difficult but more time consuming than an explore path.

As it stands, story mode gives very little reward for repeating. There is no incentive for me to go back and help out a group trying to do story mode for the first time.

Story modes I have done take just as long and usually longer than associated explore paths. Why not give the same token reward at the end of story mode?

For a lot of people, it really wasn’t about the gold.

But there is no way that an increase in chest loot rewards increased the chance for Final Rest to drop THIS much.

Mad Rasputin.7809

I realize Shadow Behemoth was bugged for the longest time, and that the drop rate for Final Rest was super low, but this event has been farmed a LOT. Hard to believe no one ever got it to drop.

And now the chests have been buffed to drop better stuff, no mention of buffing the drop rate of Final Rest in particular. As low as a drop rate that Final Rest had, it has to have a pretty high drop rate now. And that is not just due to the chest buff. A four times increase in the chest drop rate would not cause this many Final Rests to drop at once.

I enjoyed the hunt and the search, but with this many dropping this quickly there is no way that this was working as intended pre-patch. Going from a uber-low drop rate to one this high? Come on man!

I love that these chests are now giving rares/exotics as rewards like they always should have.

Question I did have.. if gems bought with real money don’t count towards the gem total in the gem/gold exchange market until someone cashes them in and puts them into the market, does spending gems for TP purchases remove gems from the gem/gold exchange market?

Or is the TP market considered part of the gem/gold exchange market?

in Black Lion Trading Co

“As a quick aside. Gems in the currency exchange are finite. You may buy gems with real money to your hearts content, but if you don’t put any of them gems into the currency exchange the currency exchange’s stock of gems never changes.”

“Think of it this way. The government can print as much money as they want, that doesn’t mean your bank account has access to that money. The currency exchange does not have access to gem creation. It has a limited stock that players add and subtract from.”

Both quotes from John Smith in a different thread.

Sound like there is a finite number of gems in the gem/gold market which directly effects that market.

But you can purchase with real money any amount of gems you wish. Until these gems are put into the currency exchange system, they don’t effect the system.

So it sounds to me as if the supply of gems is in reality infinite. But until someone puts them into the gem/gold market (exchanging them for gold) they will not effect the conversion rate.

My opinion on the Guild Mission cost

Mad Rasputin.7809

So, the ‘guild’ content should really just be open to everyone. 1 to 3 man groups should be able to do it, without first putting in a little effort?

I sympathize with the smaller guilds because that is a lot of influence even for guilds with 10-15 active members. But if you have a few more than 3-4 active members, you should be able to come up with ways to unlock this content without too much problem.

If you can’t unlock the content due to resources, how in the world do you expect to do the content designed for coordinated play between more than just 2-3 people?

If you want the perks of a larger guild, you either got to put in more effort/resources or get more members. I know, neither sound very attractive.

I love the idea of a high end difficult goal to achieve that takes effort and time and not everyone can do it.

HOWEVER, to release the FIRST level of guild missions at such a high end cost is a bit too much.

I think the logical thing to have done was release a more simple and basic level of guild missions at rank 3, that way smaller guilds of 10ish people can do the lowest level guild missions. These should still be difficult, but obvious less difficult than the rank 5 missions, cost less and ALSO reward a LOT less.

While on average the new guild missions award a min of 2 rares, 2 commendations and 50 silver, the rank 3 guild missions I was thinking of should be easier to get but also award less, let’s say no commendation, 2 greens and 8 silver. That gives smaller guilds something to do while still leaving that huge goal to achieve…

Because even though I like the idea of a difficult goal, it doesn’t change the obvious fact that doing so with no other alternative will damage smaller guilds in a horrible dramatic degree.

I pretty much agree with everything you said.

I don’t know why they chose to release higher end guild content first versus lower end guild content. Hopefully, some lower end guild content will open up so even smaller guilds can participate.

I’d like to see small guild content added also. But I am not going to complain if the initial release of guild content is aimed at larger guilds than 10 people.

I seem to recall a bounty system in GW1 that was open to everyone. I liked that system when I played. Seemed to recall a different daily bounty or mission every day. That helped keep the game fresh and interesting to me.

Yes. If your personal reward level is 12 and you run a level 8 fractal, your loot will be level 8 (Lesser of the two).

Alternately, you can do level 10+ fractals for a chance at a glob of condensed mists drop and then downconvert that in the MF. I believe it will yield 3 vials.

Why is so many people upset that their is content that is designed for guilds or groups of people larger than 3 friends? If you only have 3 people active in your guild, this content might be realistically out of your reach. If you want to participate in ‘guild’ content, you will need to have a little larger/active guild.

I’m not going to get mad when they release PVP stuff or WvW stuff just because I don’t like to do it. If the ‘guild’ content is not within your reach because you don’t like to play in a guild with more than 3 people, don’t get mad. Continue playing the game and the rest of it’s content the way you like to play.

And 10G a day is not ridiculous. If you are specifically farming for gold, 3G an hour is fairly realistic estimate for the average person.

Just remember, this content is designed for ‘guilds’ and not just a small group of friends. You don’t need a mega guild to be able to do the content, just more than 3-4!

The under geared/lower level people tend to be a little more fun to play with in my experience. Though, I’m not just grinding dungeons for gold and loot and trying to get in and out as fast as possible.

If that is your playstyle, then I understand why you would want a level 80 zerker warrior. And I don’t knock you for it, I just rather play with people who want to have fun like me.

It is really disheartening hearing that this is not even being looked into.

You’re at a job, where you work maintenance for most of the machinery in a large factory. I mean couple of city blocks big. Your boss comes up to you on the first day of the week and hands you a list of twenty items which need to be fixed that week in order for you to get paid. You’re at the fifth thing on the list when someone who works in the department you’re currently in tells you there’s a problem with a valve.

“Is it not working?”
“No, it’s just acting like it’s not open all the way even though it’s not turning open any further.”
“I’ll look at it when I have time.”

Of course, you still have fifteen things on the list, or no paycheck. Since it’s actually not outright stopped it’s lower on priority. So you move on and the next day you’re stopped by the same person from yesterday.

“Hey, you said you’d look at that valve.”
“I didn’t get around to it, I have these other things to do.”
“Whatever, you just don’t care. Lazy bum, why do you even get hired?”

Tell me what motivation you have to actually go out of your way to look into that valve now.

I understand your analogy, a decent one at that, but that is why there is management to prioritize things for employees when necessary. If management in your analogy has deemed the ‘task list’ higher priority than day to day maintenance, then that is what gets accomplished.

It is good to hear that this issue is in fact getting looked at. It sounded as if this was not the case, which was very disheartening to hear at first. I anxiously wait to see what ultimately comes about to fix this situation.

Mad Rasputin.7809

Hah that’s one thing I don’t like about fractals. I haven’t delved too deep past lvl 20 but I’m getting all this junk and I don’t know what to do with it…and there doesn’t seem to be any specific in-game hint of what I should do with any of it. I think I’ve gotten about 120 globs left now, I don’t have many rings but the ones my main fractal character uses have the +5 AR in them and am close to getting my back piece infused (I think) but yeah, that’s just from what seemed the most obvious in game.

All the ascended material is rather ambiguous but maybe there’s an NPC I should have spoken to to help me get a bigger clue.

Unless you plan on going much above the 20s in fractals, infusing your backpiece is not really worth the cost. It will cost you 250 globs of ecto (along with other items) to infuse your backpiece. Not worth it if you are not running high level fractals.

You can already get +25 AR real easily with 2 infused rings with +5 versatile infusions, and an ascended backpiece with +5 versatil infusion. This will be plenty for doing any level in the 20s, maybe even into the 30s.

The agony at level 10 is really no different at 19.

And 75 relics for a versatile infusion is nothing. If you do fractals enough, you will be swimming in fractal relics with nothing to spend them on.

Infuse your ring with the simple +5 AR and you can comfortably do levels 10-19. And eventually, it shouldn’t be that hard to achieve +15 AR around level 20.

You will obtain a second ring from daily chest or by purchasing with pristine relics. Purchase a fractal capacitor backpiece with fractal relics, ascend it in the MF, then stick a cheap +5 simple versatile infusion in it.

I would be told at some point that there are no longer any gems I can purchase with real life currency and I have to wait for some gems to be exchanged for gold?

I really just don’t believe this.

That’s not what he’s saying. Gems are created by buying them with real world currency; those gems are unlimited. The gems being purchased with in game currency are limited because you can only exchange for gems that other players are selling.

That is what I would expect too.

But isn’t having an unlimited supply of gems via real world currency going to influence the market in some fashion? It really is not a closed economy with fixed amount of gems and gold.

I keep reading about economic principles here and how there is a fixed amount of gold and gems and that is the reason why the gem/gold ratio fluxuates like it does. But if the powers that be can just infuse a large amount of gems into the market via real world currency purchases, isn’t that going to have an effect on the economy? Doesn’t that manipulate the market, to some degree?

Doing any fractal level higher than your current one will gain you a personal ‘fractal level’ advancement.

Doing higher level fractals will not yield you better loot because your reward level is tied to your personal reward level (the lower of your current level and the level you are playing).

Doing a level 10 or 20 daily on a character with a personal fractal level 9 will yield a daily chest once, but it will be a tier 1-9 daily chest. Therefore, no chance for a ring.

But these low level guys joining high level parties without AR and without knowing the mechanics have become a big drag on parties. It has become tougher and tougher to find a qualified group of people to party with.

Trust me, that guy that died 3x in the first room of the dungeon would die 3x in the first room of the dungeon if he wasn’t wearing MF gear. Sometimes it’s just the skill factor and the player himself.

That one extra stat on his gear would not have tipped the scales in his favor to make him a productive member of the team.

I don’t want to start a tiff here but this assumption is simply untrue.

I’m appreciative of this thread pushing the idea that magic-find is a poorly implemented feature of Guild Wars 2 and should be looked into; however, there have been dozens upon dozens of these threads. Thankfully, I read a few of them and am a little educated in the matter, so I’ll reiterate (poorly I’m afraid) what I’ve read in other threads. The math has already been compared, and the amount of stats, though not significantly large, was not so negligible to be ignored. The difference very well could make an impact on game play.

I’m afraid to post how disheartened I’m becoming everytime I head to these forums. Not in response to complaints but watching the direction the game is taking without any alteration to truly disruptive game mechanics. Magic find is one of these ignored features.

Someone wearing explorer’s armor versus knight’s armor is just giving up toughness for the MF. If the player isn’t going down, the toughness wouldn’t help much anyways.

I’ve read through quite a few of those MF threads too. And all those big numbers everyone likes to throw around all comes back to someone wearing Beserker’s armor. Not Knight’s. Not Rampager’s. Not anything else.

With explorer’s, power and precision are minor stats and MF is major. With Knight’s, power and precision are minor stats and toughness is major. If we want to discuss the benefit of one extra stat vs MF, this would be a good comparison.

According to every one of those MF threads, everyone should be running max Beserker gear because that will yield the most benefit to the party. Any other combination, including MF gear, is just a drag to the party.

That is what really gets me. It’s not really the MF that is bothering people, it’s the fact that you aren’t running full zerker gear.

Chests generally have better loot tables to begin with. MF gear doesn’t effect chests negatively or positively.

But yes, you can get exotics off of open world drops. I wouldn’t count on it or hold my breath, but it does happen.

A guy had a Twin Sister sword drop off of a mob in Orr the other night. I’ve had a few drops, but that is over a long span of time.

As far as dragon chests, I know very, very few people who have ever gotten an exotic out of those chests. It is rare enough to get a rare item out of them. That said, I did get an exotic ONCE from the Shatterer’s chest. I’ve done thousands of dragons, and that was the only exotic from their chests.

I undertand RNG is RNG.

But I have to side with a lot of people here. Post Jan 28 update, something really seems amiss with the drops from FOTM. I’ve ran them enough since the update to gather an opinion on this.

I used to get a core or two or even maybe a lodestone from the Maw chest. Now if I get a core, it is once every 10-15 runs. Used to get a handful of rares per run. An exotic every 4-5 runs. Now, I’m luck to get one rare per run.

Could just be bad RNG for me since Jan 28. Could just be bad RNG for a lot of people since Jan 28. Just seems very weird and coincidental.

Of course, I’m one of those people who noticed the post Nov 15 update general loot drop rate decrease. Which supposedly never happened.

Not really complaining, but there definately appears to have been something that has happened to a lot of people.
