The Wolfineer Build is very good, but there is no Bombkit in it

switch grenadier for glass cannon and (maybe) aim assisted rocket for short fuse if you want to use bombs instead of grenades.

One of the support devs wrote her back in the letter i mentioned in a previous post and said “This is the same memory fragmentation issue that has plagued the game over the past 3 years. We are working on a fix, but it may not come any time soon. The problem is memory fragmentation, not out of memory errors.”

what the actual kitten. how does one justify charging people upwards of $100 for a xpac knowing this issue persists? awful.

same crashing after the “bug fix”. usually around the 30 min mark it crashed. ever since the 11/17 patch. and all i was doing was dueling 1 guildie in the guild arena:

I have to say, It’s kinda crummy that I’m looking into these sorts of options for a game advertised to me with a mac client. But until Cider comes in 64-bit, or until ANet comes out with a native client, I’m not sure what we can do.

perhaps we can get an explanation, or an apology, or a refund, or all three.

Mac client? I tell you, everyone is having Crashes… even if you find an Alien computer GW2 is gonna crash there and everywhere. I didn’t know the problems you (Mac users) are having with client and crashes-glitches… but if you wanna know, 3 of 5 more posted threads have a “Crash” topic. If HoT was an “explosion” instead of an “expansion”, yesterday’s patch was an atomic bomb… It seems they are trying so hard to make it worse… It’s just unplayable for PC’s and Mac…

The difference is they work on the client for windows.
On our side we haven’t had news, nor a single patch in years.

The website selling this product is telling a complete different thing than what it actually is. All Mac players are having a hard time, whilst on the windows side it’s a part of them, not all.

Besides they take their time to reply to you guys. As you can see this topic is 1 month old and has no actual info whatsoever, and it’s been like this for ages.

The only way mac users can play (for a few hours maximum before crash) is by setting everything to rotten potato settings. I’ve never been able to see this game run properly with sweet graphics on the mac client, a 3 YEAR OLD BETA that has no deadline whatsoever. God i’d be surprise if they are even working on it

crashed 4 times in the last 2.5 hours.
on a mac.
the game exits into a white empty windowed mode with a white empty alert box.
have to force quit.

You’re talking about a far simpler game form 2004 running on an entirely different engine that clearly isn’t confined by the limits of DirectX… Apples and Oranges are not the same thing. Ryzom also isn’t a AAA game produced by a large development studio, nor is it a mainstream game. It is a niche game appealing to a niche group with niche interests.
Ryzom’s entire file base is contained within 13GB’s. That’s not a whole lot.. It’s far less of a complex game than GW2. The end use for GW2 has access to about 25+GB’s worth of data. The actual file base will be far far larger.

because every large code base started large? because open source development hasn’t proved itself capable of developing and maintaining (and innovating) large and sophisticated projects?

i’ll leave this thread because it’s derailing that fact that we still don’t have a properly working mac client , but the fact of the matter is that i feel sorry for you and your fear and negativity and your clinging onto a dead way of thinking about software development.

That’s simply not true. If it were true there would already be a 64 bit non-crashing version of GW2 running in Wine or Crossover, both of which are open source communities/technologies which use pretty much the exact same technology as Cider… Porting a game is incredibly difficult.

To think that the gaming community could somehow produce a native OS X OpenGL version of a Direct X game is beyond ridiculous. That requires a lot of money and coding and upkeep to ensure that every single change to the game works on both the Direct X and OpenGL version. A gaming community can’t do that…

the open source community is more competent that you think and history has proven this. skilled people, invested and believing in what they’re doing, don’t need hierarchical/corporate constraints to produce amazing things.

Don’t worry, Arenanet are working very very hard. The patch is Imminent ( within the next hour) so give it time. They need to finalise everythign to make sur eit’;s stable.

the sad thing is that we were in teamspeak joking about how we knew there was going to be a patch for some pve reason after wvw reset started. when this has happened in the past we all groaned and then spammed to get back into the game and avoid queues. we never imagined it would be this terrible.

pro tip: know that even tested software can be broken when live. That’s just how it is.

correct. this is why you don’t release it after working hours especially on weekends.

pro tip: don’t release untested software on weekends unless your developers work on weekends, but not if those developers are salaried and won’t get overtime for fixing things when they break (because that’s just kittenty and greedy).

i think anet should thank and reward the people testing this bug for them and bringing it to the attention of the community. it’s obviously a very complicated thing that’s requiring 100% of developer attention which would be the only explanation as to the radio silence.

Celestial is quite strong for eng even now. I suggest to look at last tgc match streamed by jebro. You find a really good celestial build for spvp.

agreed. celestial rifle engineer is a shell of its former self with the new trait system and other nerfs.

i think there’s a good reason why wolfineer celestial build uses all knights armor and focuses so much on power over condi.

it sucks, but it is what it is.

hopefully anet will realize that the new trait system is terrible and revert

A Middle Ground Beginner Build?

Is there a middle build where you do pretty good damage that can 1v1 or even 2v1 quickly but also are sort of tanky? Not full defense bunker and not full glass canon and not semi defense slow offense but just sort of balanced or maybe 60% offense 40% defense but power based so it’s big hits and they die pretty quick?

i’ve been crashing in wvw about every 20 mins or so in big battles. the game has been stable for a long time. just started crashing the night of 12/24..

Yes, it’s a backstab-centered play style and I guess the only reason I was questioning was because I couldn’t figure out if 70% crit chance plus the added damage from executioner would make it the more powerful of the two backstab-wise.

Running sigils of fire and air on daggers:

A) executioner trait. power: 2398, crit chance: 70%, crit damage: 220%

or

B) hidden killer trait. power: 2757, crit chance: 48%, crit damage: 224%

Without understanding the maths (which is why I’m asking), it would seem that thief A would be critting all the time and the +20% damage increase from executioner would be very good. However, the raw power difference of B is quite large.

How do the maths work?
