Dragonbrand are tough opponents and have vastly improved since we fought them last. They came out swinging, striking fast and relentlessly. Their keep defense is pretty impeccable and they never give up – even if we turtle up and wipe them, they just keep coming until they achieve their goal.

We targeted Dragonbrand in particular for a good skirmish all week and they returned the favour. You’ll know all about it when [NNK] comes rolling through the map. Plus they have an awesome server name. What more could you want?

Because before you suddenly got all those massive guilds Sunday, the score in the beginning was so close and the fights were so fun that EVERYBODY wanted to be there, EVERYBODY wanted to fight, EVERYBODY wanted to experience that close rush. But then you got more guilds and gained that huge lead, and it suddenly became unfun because no matter what we did, we couldn’t make the match close again anymore.

Just to clarify we got the guild transfers on the Thursday, day before reset. You guys were just out in much larger numbers on reset and ran out of steam from my point of view, my theory is a lot of it was just a psychological thing. As a generous estimate we received between 50-70 active wvw players spread across 2 timezones.

I do understand your frustration, trust me, I’ve been there. We have all experienced “unbalanced matchups” but this is really quite far from an extreme example (Look at the two tiers below us!) and in my mind, the point gap at the end of this match up doesn’t even really justify the drama from some people on all sides. We were stomped by almost 400k points by Blackgate 2.0, I figure it’s better to maintain a healthy server morale by dusting yourself off and getting back into the community to get people riled up to fight. Just a word to the wise and I’m not singling you out.

Yes. The inital guild[s] that left probably didn’t want to “stay put”, or drop down a tier. Then it’s just a snowball effect. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles I guess – if TA stuck around (and together) HoD would still be #1 NA by a laaarge margin.

What you believe it to be rationale and in their best interest, may deem to be ridiculous by others. Have you ever wondered that these people who talks about server loyalty actually believes in that and place that of higher importance than self interest or personal fun? To us, they may be pretentious, but to them, it may be a life and death issue. If we all take a step back and thing from another person’s shoe, perhaps we can create a better community. CD, I’m genuinely sorry you guys are losing a few guilds. Those that stick around through the tough times will truly build a solid infrastructure and community to move forward with even more determination than you have already shown on every opening night and most matches we have played. Perhaps it is a good thing for the server in the long run to lose some of these individuals/guilds. I do not think this is the end of Crystal Desert.

All of this is just personal opinions so if you’re reading this – I’m not trying to be inflammatory.

Kaineng also have the largest amount of fairweathers and a whole bunch of headstrong guilds all in pretty much the same alliance. sounds a bit like HoD 2.0 and we all know what happened there

I didn’t say HoD was at their peak although the way I worded the sentence may have seemed so.

DH was at their peak coming in to that match. Just prior they beat Mag and DB. While FA would have still won by a lot, it wouldn’t have been as big a landslide if it weren’t for a dead server being in the match.

Similarly, the new Mag is beating YB by as much as they are because there is a dead server in the match.

Comparing DB vs YB and Mag vs YB doesn’t make any sense considering one of those matches had a dead server in them.

If there is a dead server in the match, the winning server will look far stronger than they actually are.

at that piont in time DH beat DB because we were on our way down. SO far the one thing Dragonbrand has shown is the ability to suffer from a mass exudos and rebuild. because no other server has been able to do that yet. and with free tranfers going away doubtful another server will get the chance.

We haven’t done any recruiting in the forums either.

Yeah but recruiting didn’t matter too much because Dragonbrand is just an awesome server name. Almost as good as Fort Aspenwood.

I have been recalled to life in Fort Aspenwood! It is not what it once was however. So many gypsy emigrants. The days of Gods, Pros, and Hope forming the core fist of Aspenwood has passed and now there is a mishmash of this that and everything else all for the sake of winning with total abandon and to no end. I hope the future doesn’t bring us que times and perpetual money blitzes which overshadows the uphill struggles of the past and the glory of overcoming them. I welcome the transfers from IOJ which protect our holdings against night caps and the cost of re-upgrading. Once server transfers are closed and a month has passed I hope we are once again fighting marginal battles with final scores that have maybe at most a 20000 point spread. Blowouts are just not that fun and competitive, whether you be on the winning or losing side. Fighting servers like Maguma which appear to be enforcing a strict doctrine and almost cultifying its base doesn’t look like much fun either.

As for queues.. well, I don’t have any experience with them being Aussie – I’ve been playing the night shift since the early beginnings of FA.. however you can expect our populations to be super inflated on Friday matchup as all the Aussies will be on too.. (it’s like 8-10am for us on wvw reset) but I’d rather wait ~15 mins to get in if I don’t have to defend keeps solo during my “prime time” like it was before .. lol

Sure I don’t mind winning.. of course I’m used to losing.. the scoreboard is pretty irrelevant to me but I hate not being able to hold a keep because nobody is even around to man the huge nest of siege I built in the midnight hours! Chucking a good score down encourages all of our elite PvE players to scuttle away from fractals and show off their legendaries in WvW. All of our new guys are helping us achieve this and want FA to succeed – but more importantly they want to help enhance the WvW experience for our community just as much as us grumpy old timers do. Just my 2 cents

Are you in NA night crew or Oceanic time frame? KH is a NA nightcrew guild. The 10-15 KH people you see during the day is not our main contingency.

I’m Australian. KH is probably the largest force I’ve seen from CD when I play during the evening.. still, seemed like you guys had a lot more numbers when you were dominating the tier. Maybe you’re just more spread out than previous encounters due to FA actually having an Oceanic force now or maybe you just seem smaller now that I actually have some backup during my “prime time”. /shrug

Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately, CD sees us as the bigger threat too for remaining in T3. Our morale is fine, we have guilds still transfering in and not guilds starting to transfer out like what is happening to CD right now. It would have just been nice to see how DB handles itself when it doesn’t have 2 servers focusing on us because of different agendas.

Well, we haven’t really been focusing you all week. Personally though, I have been seeking out DB for skirmishes;
a.) because I don’t see CD anywhere at all this week (I play oceanic primetime & EU primetime)
b.) I admire DB’s defensive ability and I was really shocked to see how long they held onto CD BL Hills.

You are the new kid on the block, we’ve been fighting CD for ages, it’s nothin’ personal.. we just want to get to know DB’s premier guilds and how they operate

I expect DB to really shine with the green position in T4 if that’s where they end up and return again perhaps with even more people from hopefully dominating T4. Surely DB and YB will give Kaineng a warm welcome to the upper tiers. If Kaineng wins with a blowout in score, I’ll really be worried because DB has had FA against the ropes a few times this week.

I’m not surprised about the 0 points thing while we slept. I’d be upset too if a rag tag group of ~15-20 people were able to hold DBBL Bay against a larger than us FA and DB zergs who were not engaging each other.

TBH, most fun I’ve had for a while. I think there were three our four portal bombs right after each other on the lords room.

Time out – nightcapping complaints are T4 and lower. T3 and T2 are 2v1 conspiracies and I think T1 is hack conspiracies. I see you tried to camoflauge it a little by throwing in a 2v1 conspiracy, but I still caught your nightcapping complaint. Next time lead with 2v1 and then end with nightcapping. It’ll disguise it a little more.

So whats with FA and CD focusing hard on us. Both of their BL are untouched but it seems everyone is in ours and trying to wipe us from EB also. So whats the saying for that if not 2v1? I guess your Europeans really dont like us!

100% agree with everything here. Next to a choke point defense/zerg wiping with a coordinated group – Roaming and hitting camps/yaks/sentries, running into small skirmishes on the way, maybe try a sneaky tower ninja etc is the most efficient (and fun) method to collect badges. I do this heaps solo or with 1-3 friends if I can’t get a 10-15 man together.

I’ve always had respect for FA, so I don’t know where the idea that there was bad blood between FA and CD came from. All we wanted to do was have a parade, and when FA didn’t play nice TC went on a rampage and took both FA and CD’s entire maps. Why would FA players be mad at CD for that?

I do not think FA is, I am not even sure why FA is getting involved in this to be honest. Before this reset, I never felt any out of the ordinary anger towards CD from FA folks, certainly not even close to the lack of respect most people have for TC.

I have had a lot of fun moments with CD folks, such as naked dancing on a supply hut with a full blown battle raging on all sides, and a lot of decent fights as well. Really what more can I ask from an enemy? Do they have a couple long winded forum trolls, sure, but what server does not? Do they have some epically bad zerg guilds that think they are great, sure, but what server does not? IoJ’s issue with CD is their own as far as I am concerned and to me it’s all transfer drama. Couldn’t just say ‘we liked FA’s community’, it has to be given a negative tone.

Population shifts leading up to the end of free transfers is going to cause a lot of server upsets, power shifts and frankly a lot of drama. It will be a bumpy ride and unfortunately many servers will be very different as a result.

I’ve never had a problem with CD. I didn’t appreciate the condescending nature of some of the posts coming from them when they were facerolling the tier but you kind of have to accept that will occur no matter who your server is, individuals are always gonna come on forums to whine or boast/gloat.

We just used posts like that to rally up our members to fight them more. Sometimes guilds will directly or indirectly call others out, I love that. I know when [Hel] Helioz and [AVTR] put some nice competitive posts up that got us fired up to fight, [KH] did the same, [NAGA] and [VaL] did it in the past in the TC-CD-FA matches. I enjoy friendly rivalries and consider most of it banter.

Some might consider this inflammatory but I thought it was funny when CD seemed like they were trying to get in TC’s good books for a while early on, knowing how TC operates I admired their “long term” strategy and it taught us a lot. We were ready for that since we had already faced that with YB and TC together and it added an interesting/challenging dynamic (I’ll admit it was somewhat frustrating at times but we got through it and held our ground regardless).

Even TC I have a healthy respect for. I encourage our server to have a bloodlust for TC because I enjoy having them as rivals. They paint us to be the “bad guys” and we paint them to be the “pompous carebear ERPers” but at the end of the day we’re all hardcore WvWers who are keeping the bloodlines of WvW flowing behind the scenes. Our guild built a strong rivalry against [PiNK] and fought tooth and nail every day, we built a healthy respect for each other (somewhat shaky at times) but I know for a fact TC learnt a lot from FA and vice versa.
Towards the end we were tired of the stagnant matchup and things got a bit ugly but I don’t doubt for a minute that FA is eager to hit TC with renewed vigor and ferocity next time we see them.

I’ll take this opportunity to remind everyone this is a game and we are here to have fun. Without legitimate players on every side coming to WvW for fun fights, the game will cease to entertain us all. There’s a fine line between banter and outright disrespect, just keep that in mind when you’re posting in a public forum! With that said, I look forward to melting all your faces.

Yeah, I would recommend checking out [TOG] Very big mature gaming community. They had a pretty decent turnout in WvW last time we played Yak’s Bend. IIRC they strictly recruit ages 25 and older.

EDIT: If you are on EU servers I think they also have a branch on Desolation (EU)

10 people every night in WvW as a high efficiency organised group on voice comms would be considered a medium guild, at least on my server – especially during that time slot.
Fort Aspenwood is a server which is never “Full” population, a very active community website and a 350-slot public TS (one that is actually used.) Currently in T3 we hold our own during Oceanic (primarily AUS/NZ) and EST NA primetime, so while we do not experience queues during those times, our main coverage weakness currently is during the late hours and into the early morning (NA EST) as you can see from our current score evolution. This thread really should be called “1/18/13 CD/FA and IoJ/DB”. I know server transfers are kosher in-game and part of everything. But I have to express extreme dissapointment with all the large WvW guilds from IoJ that transferred to FA just before their server went down a bracket.

The funniest part about this whole thing is that for the first few weeks of the last matchup, CD/FA/IoJ, their was much talk and rumors of FA and IoJ teaming up to attack CD’d map at exactly the same time every night. Rumors of friends/guilds actually splitting themselves over the two servers……and now the two servers have joined up…

I’m not saying anything you guys have done is wrong or against the rules or anything.
But when I go into WvW and see all the big IoJ guilds fighting along side FA now…glad your not on my server.

Umm.. [PRO] has been on Fort Aspenwood since day one.
(hint, that’s why we are called the Protectorate of Aspenwood)
[OBEY] has been a guild on FA for months.
Do you guys even know which IOJ guilds we have yet?
Most of the guilds that transferred over are very small but rather effective.
Our server TS has really not climbed in numbers significantly.

It’s a reaaaally early match to call it guys. Haven’t you heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Honestly the transfers and the gossip surrounding them seem to be more a psychological weapon than an actual numbers advantage. Just grit your teeth and fight your hardest, that’s why we play this game – right?

Hmm, while I understand your point of view – from my PoV I felt lucky for my server to receive any transfers at all. We have been sitting in #3 Tier 3 for a looooong time (between #8 and #10 NA overall on the leaderboard since week 42 2012) and with recent transfers to Maguuma, Dragonbrand, CD and Kaineng we were sure to be finally pushed off the tier we have been scrambling so hard and staying up way too late into the night to stay in.. it’s still way too close to call.

I guess you could make the argument that it doesn’t matter what tier you are in if you’re having fun but in FA’s previous trips to tier 4 it really wasn’t that exciting with a 350k point lead and hours of +695 PPT.. this comes down to the glaring difference of strength/participation between each tier.

However I think this may be an exception as our scores in T3 are very tight still. I would like to hope everyone’s ideal matchup is against 2 relatively equally proportioned opponents. If I had hour long queues and was clearly outnumbering the opponents I would be absolutely bored.

A lot of recent transfers are the “snowball effect”. People wish to stay in a “top 10” realm as the guilds and strategy gets turned up a notch. Starts out with some guilds sensing a weakness and leaving early on. Once the server begins to lose guilds which affects their coverage they see an expanding weakness and choose to leave to fill another servers weak coverage hole instead of staying on a sinking ship which is heading for a tier they do not desire to be in. That’s the ideal result, anyways – filling other weak coverage areas for some servers and not all stacking up on a superserver. Doesn’t always work out that way.

Darkhaven was an excellent opponent and I admired their tenacity against the odds. It is a shame to see them lose some of their premier guilds in the past weeks but I do not doubt the ability and obvious loyalty of the militia who choose to remain there. A good server opportunity for a small guild to make a big difference! All the best.

No disrespect or anything, all we can do is encourage FA posters to follow a mature forum etiquette to maintain a good reputation. So what’s all this about Maguuma being a T2 pop server now? I dunno about that. This matchup seems more like a 1v1 to me, Yak’s aren’t as strong as they once were either IMO. Fort Aspenwood is eager to meet Maguuma 2.0 though, FA <3 Maguuma long time.

Normally, we want to have participants from all three servers, and therefore don’t take camps or keeps, but since it was all CD last week and we didn’t have enough mesmers to portal all of the yaks across the water, we attempted to take Bay in IoJ BL – which was held by FA at the time.

The herd was culled by FA defenders who fought valiantly against the bizarre ruminant army, but we made it most of the way around the map. Success!

I’d love to fight Maguuma again. <3 those guys. Too bad most of them would be new faces.. last time we played them [PANG] and [GOON] were still in their prime. Probably the most fun in WvW and forums I ever had. These guys were once the pioneers of stacking (pre-stackgate) and generally being quite sneaky/cheeky, kind of reminded us of ourselves at the time. Our guild still often talks of our matchup against the “goonies” and how great it was. I wonder if they will dedicate another Ramelot to us?

Fighting MAG this week, and I don’t even reconise vertually any of the guilds I’m fighting there now, keep in mind it’s only 2 weeks since we last faced them on YB, [GOON] has shrunk and are not even 1/4 of the force they once were and rarely have I seen [PANG], although they are still out there some where.

That makes me die a little inside.
I hope that’s what they wanted to happen with Maguuma. They always seemed kinda content in T4 trolling around and playing with the Overgrown Grub in EB. It gets pretty nasty above T4 – but who knows, maybe they will be a breath of fresh air/fun ..
