I’d love to fight Maguuma again. <3 those guys. Too bad most of them would be new faces.. last time we played them [PANG] and [GOON] were still in their prime. Probably the most fun in WvW and forums I ever had. These guys were once the pioneers of stacking (pre-stackgate) and generally being quite sneaky/cheeky, kind of reminded us of ourselves at the time. Our guild still often talks of our matchup against the “goonies” and how great it was. We still have old guild videos of Maguuma charging SMC burning the midnight oil with more golems than people. I wonder if they will dedicate another Ramelot to us?

All T3 servers are close. Just depends what you are looking for in community, PvE and WvW structure. We host a server wide 350-slot TS, protected server forum @ http://www.fort-aspenwood.com/ and Maylum is awesome enough to give us this constantly updated resource node map – http://fortaspenwood.blogspot.com.au/

I would like to point out there is a profound difference between each tier. If you look at our previous scores against TC v CD v FA, you can see that TC did not have too much trouble with us. Although I recognise that transfers can shake it up a little I believe T2 would be an uphill battle for all of the T3 servers and T1 even more so (although maybe I’m just kinda scared of SoR, SoS, JQ, BG and TC :P )
With that said, there’s nothing wrong with being optimistic.

In Fort Aspenwood. I seem to be the rare exception of being gmt+8 on the west coast of Australia though haha, a lot of guildies and people I meet are the same timezone or an hour ahead of me in wvw but they are all in Singapore/Philippines/China or elsewhere.. seems almost every Aussie I meet is on the east coast so far!

It means your server population just chose not to WvW every single day of the week

If FA is underpopulated,
it wouldn’t have won the other 2 servers prior in T4 and came to T3

Yeah, I was referring to FA hitting +605. We didn’t do that without transfers and CD taking a break. FA has stayed in T3 by the skin of their teeth and have been recognised by both IoJ and CD in pretty much every thread as being the least populated out of the three.

All depends on your definition of underpopulated but I was obviously referring to our WvW participation and even though irrelevant you could probably apply it to our PvE population also (there’s even a pic in here of “Full” on CD/IoJ and “Very High” for FA, I believe). If you see this thread and our previous matchup threads, players from CD/IoJ have seen us as pests that can only strike opportunistically when the enemy is already under attack (eg 2v1) especially during off-peak hours.

I didn’t say we were underpopulated for tier 4. I was talking about being severely outnumbered in T3, CD’s wasn’t holding 80% of the turf on reset night because of pure skill. Your theory seems to be based upon there being very little difference between tiers which I disagree with (at least when we moved from T4, there was a vast difference.) Also it does not take into account transfers of guilds/individuals that FA bled during this stagnant period as #3 in Tier 3 which was a significant loss.

Regarding FA staying in the tier for so long wouldn’t be possible without an equal/similar participation – apply your theory to SBI. Look how long they stayed in Tier 1. Now look at their score currently. That’s right – last in Tier 2. It’s not because T1 is weak either, look at Blackgate previous + current scores.

FA ; Lets not count our chicks before they are hatched. I know CD are fearsome opponents and I expect Dragonbrand to enter the tier with ferocity. These are both servers hungry for the win with skilled players and coordinated guilds plus the numbers to match it.

Looks like we’re finally going to to get the blue position next week. No doubt we will all be running into red keeps and camps wondering why the guards are wailing on us.

Nah, I am familiar with him and DB in addition to a few others from TC from previous encounters eg. when we were up against each other and all the following matchup and recruitment threads not involving TC over the past few months. This topic has a guy from IoJ begging people to join his server and talking about how people can help make a difference, and then he turns around the next day and transfers his guild to a different server.

I find it hilarious because he went from being all macho and loyal to just jumping ship at the first chance he could get, and it’s going to be at the expense of the rest of his server. This guy, as commander of a prominent IoJ guild, jumped ship at the same time as something like 13 other guilds from IoJ and basically vacated the server. They literally destroyed Isle of Janthir just one day after acting like they cared. Wherever they go they’re likely to eventually do the same thing, pay transfers or not lol.

They’re disloyal and dishonorable and it sucks for the people that have to deal with the mess they’re leaving in their wake. That’s not funny to me, but this guy? He got some wind in his sails and showed his true colors with very little convincing, it’d seem.

On topic: Fort Aspenwood will be blue for next week against Dragonbrand/Crystal Desert. Eyes on the prize. We are still lacking in all timezone departments however with recent transfers our Oceanic and East Coast presence should be substantial enough to hold a defensive and carry out offensive moves against these two very large Oceanic/Asian based servers. Our weakest timezone is likely to be Asia primetime (GMT+6 – GMT+9) Singapore, China, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Korean, Japan & more all the way through to EU primetime/NA early morning.

So much for IoJ being proud of their server, battle hardened warriors, blah blah blah. It’s not like you guys stuck with it till the bottom and then decided to move on, you all left while it was in tier three, lol.

With paid transfers coming in and IoJ losing [HIRE] [Hel] and [ND] , they made the decisions they seemed fit to stay competitive and not lose interest. It’s not like they signed a contract or swore a blood oath and they could have just as easily gone to CD, SoS, SoR, Blackgate etc I don’t understand what reason you would have for reacting so negatively to a morale boost for FA as an underdog server. We can get queues on all maps at reset, did you get angry at everyone for coming to WvW then, too?

Everyone is out in WvW today. We usually come out in bigger numbers at the end of the week. However with this said, we do have transfers in progress to FA (mainly of the oceanic timezone.)

I’ve seen many players complaining about server recruitment in this forum so I’d like to address that.

FA is not a bandwagon server trying to recruit even more people. This is our 9th week in T3 and we have not come in 1st place during any of those weeks. Our fairweathers have long gone and we have lost some guilds throughout our stay in this tier. We are still here fighting because we love this level of competition and it would be a shame if we dropped. T1/T2 isn’t even being discussed. We just want to become more competitive in this tier which won’t be possible if we don’t recruit to get our population back in line with our opponents.

As you can see, we have been ranked between #10 and #8 NA since Week 44 2012. Pretty much the definition of not being a bandwagon server. Perhaps it would help you to understand why we are recruiting if you understood the imbalance within T3 right now.
I enjoy fighting outnumbered, sure – however it’s common sense to recognise that any server who will be forced to sit in #2 – #3 position in their tier for months on end due to a clear population disadvantage will suffer in overall WvW participation, regardless of how hard the hardcore WvW guilds try and bring those more casual players back into WvW. Being on Yak’s Bend I’d be lead to assume you would know that fact very well and I believe that is perhaps what has lead you to lash out on this recruitment thread. That’s not what I want to see on my server.

Regarding FA’s current status and coverage, I would recommend anyone to check out our score evolution which is generally a clear representation of our coverage vs other tier 3 servers. Next week: Dragonbrand. Yay for fighting Oceanic beasts for countless weeks with a primarily NA east coast population. I hope FA has stocked up on RedBull again..

I respectfully disagree. While we do need a stronger presence during my time (Oceanic/Asia) and require a significant force during those times in T1/T2/T3, I have had the opportunity to play throughout NA time zone and “prime-time”. If we don’t have queues in all maps and our server isn’t “Full” population, it is safe to assume (in my opinion) we could also use more NA West Coast AND East Coast transfers and I would even go as far to say our NA presence could surely use improvement having lost a couple premier guilds recently.

If we were experiencing a queue in each map during NA primetime and had a healthy West Coast late night presence + a substantial NA morning/early afternoon presence during the week, then I would be inclined to agree with you. I think the best philosophy to follow however is to not be picky with new recruits and encourage all individuals, small guilds/large etc in all timezones to join us as we are currently lacking participation in all departments.

It’s looking like we’re moving into #8 server ranking again. Will certainly be a rough ride against Dragonbrand and Crystal Desert next week. Whether anyone joins us for this uphill battle or not, I know we will fight hard and have already forged a reputation for doing so. Fort Aspenwood has remained steadfast in the face of many “transfer mega servers” and held ground, even during these “night cap” periods we manage to cling to a modest amount of turf or in the case of a massive zerg/golem blitz our skeleton crews reclaim it quickly, upgrade and move on to the next target.

FA: Be very careful with your scoring this week. Even though you’re in second place, Dragonbrand is gaining steadily this week. You may find yourselves in a position where you defeat Isle of Janthir, but drop down a tier anyway.

Even I would find that to be depressing — I’d rather not see you guys defeat IoJ only to fall a tier while they stick in T3. At least if you drop it will be because Dragonbrand is doing that good, not because you’re doing poorly.

I think T4 would be a fun/competitive fight for FA. Dragonbrand belongs in T3, no doubt. Tier 3 is the benchmark, any server wishing to progress without a significant off peak presence is going to have a rough time with beasts like IoJ, CD and DB at your heels.
Fort Aspenwood struggles to field a significant NA force for this tier recently, let alone a overnight presence to hold our points and after losing some powerhouse guilds, plus plenty of individual hardcore WvWers .. I find it a little silly we are still here, let alone encroaching on 2nd place. The last thing I want is to bleed more guilds/players.. the second last thing I want is to drop a tier.

Every player counts in every timezone (no queues) and we are never at “Full” server capacity which allows plenty of room for individual or guild transfers. Instead of trying to keep your turf red against 2 fronts, why not just make sure there is no blue on the map, ever. Your garrison goes green? NP if you’re holding blue keeps. Think of it as every blue point you take = you staying in the tier. Perhaps blue will be more inclined to fight the green server next week/fortnight once they realise it isn’t so beneficial to be a doormat all the time.

It’s never ideal to be engaged in a brutal fight for second. As far as I’m concerned, second place is just the first place loser. However, with little options available you have to fight smart and pick your target strategically to send a message if you intend on staying in the tier. Just a little hypothetical food for thought anyways..

Actually , if you look at how the ranking point system work, smaller gap between all servers equals 3rd place losing less points. The bigger the gap between 1st, the 2nd and 3rd server loses more points.

You can be 3rd place every week, as long as you stay relatively close, and not drop tiers. This is of course assuming T2 stays close as well.

The problem with this theory is fairweathers. If you continue to stay in the tier as third place, I can guarantee you now you will lose individual fairweather players and eventually guilds. You need to take second place as soon as possible. To do so, you need to aim for it directly. Red team’s biggest focus right now (other than enjoying fights) should be the rating gap between them and holding second place.

Just my opinion, morale and placing is very important in regards to overall participation. This, in turn, makes it a very powerful weapon if used against a second place server. If you take their placing, they will lose participation long term. This makes them eventually take up the title as the new underdog and allows you a lot more control on the overall outcome of the scoreboard.

I just want to clear something up here. So throughout the beginning of GW2, servers have risen and dropped due to several factors, Population rise due to players quitting, guilds quitting, people/guilds transferring, etc. Now we’ve all seen this time and time again so its no secret. In fact it’s one of the main reasons people are clamoring for paid transfers; to gain a sense of stability in server populations/matches.

Anyway with all that said CD is apparently the exception to this rule, they did not gain a specific amount of transfers which would give them an edge over their competition whether it be people or guilds from any other servers whatsoever thereby increasing their overall population (which lets not kid ourselves higher population servers have a greater probability of having more people doing everything the game has to offer including WvW, the one exception ever for a short time was Eredon terrace due to a WvW alliance moving there but we all see what happened after they left). CD just got “Better” and “organized” enough to go from third place during the TC vs FA vs CD rounds to first place. Is my assumption correct?

I’m failing to remember ever coming third place in those matchups you speak of. I know that when it was TC v YB v CD, we lost, yes. However, when we came back up into T3 and replaced YB, we started placing second.

For the rest of this, I’ll say why we’re doing good; We did get more organized. By a large degree, and that’s a huge contributing factor to it. However, we did also gain a few guilds that came from other servers. It is not purely because of those guilds though (But they do help). Our morale as a whole on our server is also high, and people are actually doing WvW, old players and new.

I agree with you, morale is a huge factor in participation. IoJ and FA have bled some guilds also, FA has lost basically the tip of the spear in their NA crew, [PTX] and [ULTD]. CD’s prominent NA guilds like [GoF] and TG] were nowhere to be seen during the holiday season either with guilds like KoME and KH in much smaller numbers; which in my opinion, left CD weak and exposed during that particular matchup. Even now, with high morale and full turnout, CD’s NA morning / EU evening is a very weak link in CD’s coverage if you look at their score evolution.

TL;DR – It’s inaccurate to have expectations of CD based on a matchup over the holiday season. This is a server that was in T2 a couple months ago and plummeted due to transfers. They have always had a formidable number of players in the SEA/Oceanic timezone. Taking into account large guild & individual player transfers enabling CD to improve on their weakest coverage times from SF, DH ([GoF], [TG] etc) and other servers in addition to high morale, people should not be surprised they are a powerhouse server in T3.

I dont know what to tell you guys.

CD we have alot to be proud of tonight on both fronts of EB and CDBL. We held off impossible odds at the same time. FA and IOJ, you guys go ahead and keep hitting us cause we just getting more and more points off of it. IOJ better get their act together or they gonna have to trade in one christmas color for the other for next week at this point, well, that is, unless they drop to T4.

Wait, didn’t CD come 3rd in the first matchup IoJ v FA v CD? Or was that just from double teaming too? I’ll believe impossible odds when I see the outmanned buff on you guys – ever … I’d love it if you could provide footage/screenshot of a 30 man FA zerg at 5am CST. We’ve gained ground where we choose to gain it, it’s never been with IoJ’s help. Right now we are fighting massive force of ND (IoJ) and EsF (CD) forces in our own borderlands and we had to let go of your bay to defend it. I guess by your theory, you have ND to thank? Food for thought ..

On Fort Aspenwood (T3) we can usually have a 15 minute queue in our home borderlands and EB during NA peak hours if everyone is participating on reset night, with little to no presence in the other two maps. However we have been on a losing streak for a quite a while now, bled quite a lot of large impact WvW guilds and we struggle to get a queue in both maps simultaneously even at reset.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a queue on any map during the week though, it would have been more than a month ago at least. We generally have enough people during NA time to not have the outmanned buff in EB/Home borderland maps. Once our NA force logs off, we either have the outmanned buff in every map, or every map except one – taking into account we are matched up against two oceanic based servers for the third week now.

Take this how you will, the only guild tag I worry about in this whole matchup when I’m facing similar numbers is AVTR. Nice fights today in CD BL/EB/FA BL. Time for us to sleep

I think he’s talking about the big dome structure above the supply depot in the “vale” supply camp. There’s some screenies of a thief up there stopping a capture. People are using macros to spam spacebar at incredibly fast speeds so they can scale objects like Spiderpig.

Settle down, man. This whole “golem” incident was after a 3+ hour long siege on the tower by IoJ, organised guilds. Finally they failed the last attempt on walls (superior trebs at ruins) they went quiet for a bit after wiping our defensive siege at the tower (again). We sent some scouts around and found them building multiple golems – we got the oil and other siege up about 45 seconds before the golems got to the gate which is why you see them standing there looking very confused while getting wailed on. Nobody is celebrating a “blowout victory” against inexperienced or weaker teams. I didn’t see the outmanned buff on them.

It’s funny in these forums, the team you are on is always outnumbered but far more adept at mashing buttons.

I think Maguuma is a pretty cool guy. eh constructed ramelot and doesn’t afraid of anything.

Obviously, FA is hitting us everytime we hit IOJ. Also there are some spies in CD you can see some guild in both FA and CD and the spies enjoy watching their own server mate die. WAKE UP CD! THERE IS NO ALLIANCE WITH FA!

A million times this, I haven’t been able to play as much as I like over “the holidays” but a simple look at the map tells anyone that FA is no longer interested in IoJ but more interested in gaining 2nd from CD.

Last thread I had said FA and CD should focus on IoJ… let them know how T3 rolls, apparently not so much…

If you check the map, it shows that CD hasn’t taken Bay (fully upgraded) in IoJ BL for a long while. We took their Garrison a day ago and we take Bay from them several times a day. FA is just looking to maintain maximum rating. CD has been pushing us all week, we respond in kind.

BTW, you need to get the gate hopping ranger out of your guild.

Full credit goes to IoJ for a well executed golem rush on FA BL tonight. You sure did strike at a good time, we had barely any organised manpower in WvW at all. I should have known when Outmanned flickered on for a little bit, unfortunately our scouting was below average at the time and we didn’t prepare for it. Once you came and I realised how outnumbered we were it was pretty overwhelming. You may have taught us a lesson and taken our shiny upgraded keeps but you’re not going to get rid of us that easily!

EDIT: I’ll throw in a score update while I’m at it. If anyone is curious, FA hit +50 PPT for a while there with CD and IoJ wiping us out.

That was Helioz, we were goofing around. We had a member going on and on in vent about how he had an omega and wanted to use it, so we built it swam it around in the ocean, tried Watergate at garrison, got spotted, went for bay, almost got that inner wall down Marched our golem up to SW garrison, killed a few yaks, and then went for North Gate. We had heaps of fun cause we thought we got spotted and nothing happened. We didn’t have the numbers to do a proper push on Bay so used trebs as a feint. We were shooting rockets with our golem at the guys that spotted us but they ran off.

Overall we had a successful night, got tons of kills from taking and holding greenbriar and forcing you guys to come take the trebs out.

Well, I guess we both had a successful night then. Glad to hear it my friend Look forward to you visiting more often.

If you guys aren’t reporting this [redt] ranger, I’d be highly disappointed. He’s been jumping into our keeps/towers trying to be the centre of attention all day. I’m sure you guys have seen it, he’s done it in front of your entire zergs. I’ll admit I was pretty annoyed when you guys rushed to defend him from two of us killing him at our tower, however I’d just say you’re following the whole “if it’s red, it’s dead”. I don’t really care if this blowhard is just trying to get exposure for something he wants fixed, he’s encouraging other people to ruin the game we are all playing. All I got to say.

Just wanted to give some props to those who were defending FABL today. Good fights and good job on watching your keeps/towers. (PRO guild)Definitely spoiled a few ninja attempts from us. Even though we were outmanned the majority of the time we still kept trying to be a thorn in your side. I hope we earned your respect especially after a group of 10 of us were able to fend off 30-40 FA trying to recapture Greenvale via waypoint spawn rushing for the better part of an hour approx 4:30-5:40 est. Gave us a chance to showcase our strategy and tactics against a numerically superior force.

Thanks. We were actually defending for like 6 hours before you guys came too lol. IoJ threw golems at Briar tower with the breakout commander on three seperate occasions. IoJ eventually got that tower, didn’t find my mes so I ported our forces back inside, recapped it and they left the map shortly after. Shout out to [uA] and [AVTR] as well, good fights.

Some exciting fights in FA BL, both servers are like hungry wolves in our borderlands. I was the mesmer who kept finding you guys. I waved when you got caught with superiors at Bay water wall. You had us worried at Longview with gate at 10%, you sure aren’t shy of using superiors! CD is still bashing their faces on our other tower as we speak.. about 20-25 breakout attempts so far. We def had more numbers than you at the end when IoJ mostly map hopped.. really didn’t have 30-40 people on the map though, I wish we did! You should go play with CD BL next time, we enjoyed our stay in their garrison..
