Hey folks,

we are aware of an issue that sometimes people only get 2 items and we are working on a fix. We will compensate the people affected, but it might take us a couple of days to check the database and compile the list of people affected.

Keep an eye open on the forums for updates.

With our recent update we fixed most of the issues with events in Straits of Devastation that prevented players from successfully taking the Temple of Balthazar. There is one outstanding issue we will address in a future – as it might look to players as being broken while it is not, I would like to explain what is happening:

• The bug occurs in the final event of the 3 meta events;
Escort the northern invasion Pact squad to the Pact rally point at Triumph Plaza.
Escort the central invasion Pact squad to the Pact rally point at Triumph Plaza.
Escort the southern invasion Pact squad to the Pact rally point at Triumph Plaza.
• When the bug occurs all of the NPCs in the Pact squad will bunch up on top of each other.
• The bug will correct itself once the NPCs engage a hostile creature that gets too close.

As you are all know, spawns in Orr are rather fast, so as long as you let the NPCs aggro a nearby creature, the event will continue.

Hi All,

Thanks for your feedback we really appreciate it. I would like to take the opportunity to answer your questions in an AMA on Reddit on Monday 26th (12pm PST- More details to follow) to talk about recent updates to the game and our philosophy for Guild Wars 2 moving forward.

Please keep in mind that there we are about to begin the Thanksgiving holiday in the US and are out of the office (and likely in game) until Monday. Happy Holidays everyone!

Two things from me:
- We will talk in more detail about the things Chris outlined when we get closer to releasing them.
- If this thread becomes another one where people bicker back and forth about Ascended gear, I will close it down. Please continue discussion about Ascended gear in the existing threads on that topic and do not derail every thread that pops up.

Thank you.

You closed the thread.

If you’re going to represent a company, don’t be an ignoramus.

Ok, I am replying to this one, should cover all the other ones that stated the same thing:

I am counting at least three current open threads about ascended gear. The big thread was closed as it was no longer a discussion (as we explained).

So use the existing open threads to discuss there.

A message from our Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside

Next

Our Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside just posted this:

“I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.
Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores."

Something is stirring in the Sea of Sorrows – and we want to make sure that you are not missing out, so here is a schedule (without spoilers) for you, so you can plan ahead:

  • On Friday November 16th at noon PST (20:00 GMT) the weekend will kick off with an Event in Lion’s Arch that you don’t want to miss. This will trigger events in other parts of Tyria as well.
*On Saturday November 17th at noon PST (20:00 GMT), another phase will kick in.
Each phase is triggered by a special event, but you will be able to enjoy additional content afterwards even if you cannot make the kick-off time. There is one exception:

The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there! There will be plenty of content available to enjoy that will remain permanently in the world as a result of the outcome of this event on Sunday.

We will give you more details once we get closer to the event, but wanted to give you an early heads up so you can plan accordingly.

Holiday

Halloween has come and gone. You put Mad King Thorn back in his place with as much skill and enthusiasm as we’d hoped. We on the Halloween Team would like to thank you for participating with such gusto. It did our hearts good to know so many of you were enjoying the pumpkins of our labors (so to speak). Thank you!

Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy has made these past few days very hard for some of our players on the east coast of the United States. We would like to extend our condolences to all those affected by the storm. We recognize that because of power failures and the general situation, many players have been unable to meet Mad King Thorn in Lion’s Arch. One of the fake Mad King Thorn actors has decided to stick around until 11/15 to ensure that those who couldn’t play due to the storms still receive the “Attend the Party” achievement. If you missed the final event, you will be able to speak to him at the Grand Piazza in Lion’s Arch and receive both your achievement and a Halloween hat.

  • The Mad King is gone, and he has taken his chest with him. The Mad King Chest can no longer be created.

Paid SPvP Tournaments
In addition to free sPvP tournaments, you can now play in paid sPvP tournaments! You can join them by going to the Heart of the Mists (using the crossed-swords icon in your quick-launch icons) and speak to the Tournament Master. You will need Tournament Tickets to play, which you can get through reward chests or the Gem Store! To see more info on the rewards for paid tournaments, look here.

WvW

  • Closed a number of exploits that inappropriately allowed access to keeps.
  • Orbs of power have been removed from WvW to address hacking and balance issues. They tended to strengthen teams already in the lead and were irresistible targets for hackers and cheaters, both of which could have an unfortunately large impact on any given WvW game. Orbs or some similar mechanic may return in the future, but only if we’re confident that they won’t create similar issues.

Personal Story

  • “The Battle of Fort Trinity”—Fixed a bug that could prevent progress on the “Defend the gate” objective.

Dungeons
Sorrow’s Embrace

  • Fergg’s Chain: The Grenadiers found a way back into the ranks. We have now adjusted their numbers to match. Waves have been adjusted to have a more reasonable spawn time.

Caudecus’s Manor

  • Story Chain: Fixed an issue that could prevent Separatist guards from spawning properly.

Reminder
On October 22nd, we added new minidungeons, jumping puzzles, and events to several areas.

  • Mount Maelstrom—A jumping puzzle has been added.
  • Fireheart Rise—A minidungeon has been added.
  • Dredgehaunt Cliffs—A minidungeon has been added.
  • Various Maps—Modus Sceleris events now appear in several maps.
  • There is a skritt burglar on the loose in Tyria! Adventurers that encounter this thieving rodent are encouraged to confiscate whatever loot they can shake out of her.

Lost Shores: Dignified anticipation!

Halloween Guide, Phase 4

The Mad King has been reined in! His power diminished, the Prince of Puns seems to have been limited to the terms of his ancient curse: he can only visit Lion’s Arch once a year, on Halloween—and only just for fun. The portal to the Mad Realm in Lion’s Arch has been capped, and we’re safe to celebrate the spirit of Halloween. Join in on the Mad King’s Halloween games, and you may by surprised by his generosity.

If you haven’t carved every pumpkin in Tyria yet, now’s your chance. Talk to a master carver, located in Lion’s Arch and the Durmand Priory’s Halloween response camps in Queensdale, Metrica Province, the Plains of Ashford, Caledon Forest, and Wayfarer Foothills, to find out whether you’re a master carver too.

Magister Tassi has been pleased that so many have hunted down the ghosts from the Mad King’s past, but if you haven’t found all twelve, then you’re missing critical pieces of King Oswald Thorn’s infamous history!

May the sweetness you mine from candy corn nodes sustain you all year long! Happy Halloween!

We want to give you a heads up about Phase 4 of the Halloween event. Phase 4 will start at 9:00 AM PDT/16:00 GMT on October 31, and will run until we publish a new build on November 1 (which will be sometime after Noon PDT/19:00 GMT).

Once Phase 4 starts, the Ascent to Madness dungeon will no longer be available – but you will still be able to enter the Mad King’s realm, including the Labyrinth, the Clocktower, Reaper’s Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition.

Also make sure that you will “Attend the Party” in Lion’s Arch once Phase 4 starts, and do not worry: It is a non-stop party, so swing by any time you want!

Happy Halloween.

Unfortunately we cannot do that, but the reason why we can’t is exciting: We are preparing for our big November update, which will start on November 16, and there will be content that will be in the game prior to that, leading up to the event. But we also want to use this moment to remind you all that your personal safety is much more important than any computer game. If you could be affected by the storm, please listen to the authorities and take every precaution to ensure you and your loved ones are safe. Tyria will still be there once the storm is over.

We’re ready to beta test a change to our FOV (Field of View) that should provide a better experience for those with widescreen monitors. We want your feedback about the change to help us decide whether to deploy it to all players.

To help test, you’ll need to add a special command line to your GW2 client’s shortcut. Here’s how:

1) Create a shortcut to your GW2 client (right-click -> “Create Shortcut”)
2) Right-click the GW2 client shortcut
3) Click “Properties”
4) Locate text field labeled “Target.”
It should contain the file path of your shortcut, and will look something like this:C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe
5) Type -testVerticalFov at the end of the Target line
Be sure to include a space between .exe and -test.
The line should look like this: C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe -testVerticalFov
Please note that your Target line may or may not have quotation marks. If it does have quotation marks, this tag should go outside of them. So it will look like this:
“C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe” -testVerticalFov
6) Once the command line has been added, click Apply -> OK.
7) That’s it! Jump in and play with this new setting, and post your feedback in the following thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FOV-Field-of-View-Changes-Beta-Test-Feedback-Thread/first#post551648

If at any time you want to return to the old FOV, simply remove the –testVerticalFov from your target line and it’ll return to normal.

Halloween Guide, Phase 2

Halloween draws near. The insanity is rising, so be on the alert for changes all over Tyria. The Durmand Priory is scrambling to respond to reports of increasing paranormal activity in Queensdale, Kessex Hills, and Gendarran Fields. People have seen Lunatic Courtiers in Kryta for the first time in over two centuries, so excitement abounds!

The Priory has set up camps in Queensdale, Metrica Province, the Plains of Ashford, Caledon Forest, and Wayfarer Foothills to use as bases of operations to respond to the lunacy. They’re keeping an eye on suspicious individuals who have shown up around the festivities there and are taking people away to play dangerous games.

Magister Tassi’s search for Mad King Thorn’s history is causing folks to travel farther abroad as six additional ghosts appear to tell their tales. Other Priory scholars are upset by rumors of people visiting the Mad Realm. Could it be that the Mad King’s demesne has opened its doors?

Halloween is a crazy time! Just ask the little mad kings. There’s much to do, and so much more to come. You can assist the Durmand Priory, and they’d appreciate the help! Talk to Magister Tassi by the lion statue in Lion’s Arch to get started. Some folks have reported that she has a ghostly companion helping her test a device that she’ll mail to you.

Are you craving some candy corn? Who could blame you? Head out into the world beyond Lion’s Arch to find special candy corn nodes that you can mine for all the yummy goodness you’ll need to craft spookilicious recipes and fuel Magister Tassi’s psychomagical device.

Halloween doesn’t just happen in Lion’s Arch either. You’ll find that the Durmand Priory is active across the world. The Priory has heard reports of terrifying creatures coming through strange doors in Queensdale, Kessex Hills, and Gendarran Fields. You’d better get your adventuring boots on, because you can’t hide in Lion’s Arch forever! Also, watch for pumpkins to carve as you roam the world!

Update on guild related topics

in News and Announcements

Previous

Martin Kerstein.3071

Next

Hey all,

After talking to Jon Peters, I would like to give you a headsup on 2 things which are guild related.
Some of you might have gotten an error when you where already in 4 guilds and tried to join another one. We do currently have a cap of 4 guilds per account. We would like to raise this limit in the future, but I cannot give you any ETA on this. We will edit the current error message to better reflect the fact that you have hit the cap.

The other topic is guild influence and changing servers. While we try to balance out server population we have asked you to switch servers. We are aware that you’re losing your guild upgrades and influence in the process is a barrier for doing this, so we are investigating if there is a way for us to mitigate this. Just wanted to let you know that we aware of this and are not ignoring it. Alas, I can not give you an ETA on this either.
