Gahd, Lilith! You’re killing me. Hammer guard = regular, frequent light fields = my might combo causing 6x Area Retal = my worst nightmare. Even using the words “hammer” and “guard” in the same sentence makes me feel like crying in a corner and punching someone at the same time.

I run hammer on my guard from time to time, i just wait on the fire fields to drop before I start in with it. I want might.

Regarding future LW content
Also, make the future content PERMANENT with animated cut scenes. Ditch the visual novel storytelling style that was used too heavily in the PS. There is a reason visual novels don’t sell well in the West: They don’t allow the characters to convey body language, facial expressions, and actions that heavily used by English speakers

The issue with that is that animated cut scenes take a rather massive amount of time and resources to create, which would either mean much less story in each update, or less updates overall.

How can we have less story? We barely have any story with each update, you can cram a lot of of info into a short cut scene, let’s say under one minute.

We would also get less updates over all? You mean we could get thought out cut scenes that better explain what’s going on and because of that we’d get less update spam? What’s the downside here? Sounds like we are creeping away from quantity and into quality where do I sign up for that?

Swapping weapons (not weapon switching) for easy dungeons is a waste of time tbh. I just keep staff on TA because everytime you stand there for a second to swap weapons, some idiot already will charge ahead and trigger every blossom there is.

Same goes for AC. It doesn’t matter what kind of description I put, there will always be some bigshot who think they can handle the spiders and go down, staff is brilliant for spider aggro and burrow kiting. The extra DPS from sword/focus is usually not needed due to icebows.

I like watching people that run ahead like that die.

Yes it’s sad I main a guardian, and I’m trying to steer guardians away from staffing. I mean i used it back in the day until I learned better. Has staffing always been this prevalent or did this become a recent thing because of all the event farming?

and yeah I break out the staff for blooms in TA when my thief buddy isn’t online. It still has it’s uses, I don’t typically kick players for using a staff unless that’s all they do. Maybe i’m too soft on them…

I don’t kick players generally. I just leave if the going gets too rough. But generally that kicks everyone so it’s worse. Lol

It generally takes 30 minutes into a dungeon for me to really know whether the group is capable in completing in … Well. A decent pug time.

Leaving the group and killing the run, that is pretty diabolical lol.

Gandalf works too, the important part is that they are referred to as staff polishers.

On the same note as bloom clearing during TA skips, I do appreciate the guardian who has staff on the swap for the first Wurm boss in TA to clear the blooms before everyone moves on to the next wurm…this way I can safely DPS without having to worry about them. It also has some use for Line of Warding in the dredge fractal.

Everywhere else? /sigh

I use staff on cliffiside fractal at the two arm seals only. Line of warding is good for keeping the side you want to stay alive from following you down the tunnel and also the swiftness symbol is nice. Or was nice now you have to stand in it. I usually escort the hammer bearer and make them drop it on the way back before their corruption gets too high.

ha ha our characters stopped being the center of the story a little before Claw Island got invaded or did the author of this article actually make it that far? He didn’t really question the lead designer about how Trahearne kinda stole your story from you when that was mentioned.

Oh you meant with the runes, got it. Yeah right now one of my old sets of armor has that very set up on it, two water, two monk, and two major Sanctuary. I’m not to worried about the rune situation they could use a revamp.

My money is on EQN, it’s going to be F2P as well so i’ll buy it and try it, if nothing else i can just alternate between it and GW2 since neither of them require a subscription.

The end game content for GW2 is rather stale, some new dungeons or dungeon paths would be a good start or a new land to explore, even new professions, skills and weapons would be nice. Any of these things or all of them which is what you find in a new campaign or expansion.

When you compare what GW1 had after a year, an additional Campaign (or expansion) compared to now what GW2 has a year later it does leave something to be desired. I agree that they probably had factions and Nightfall partially completed when Prophecies launched, and they also probably had a lot of the content we see now worked out as well… or they had something entirely different planned and NCSoft or something else made them reconsider. So they started rushing out entirely different content. Which may explain why a lot of it has turned out the way it has.

yeah i’m not about to be pigeon holed into more boon duration just to compensate for this.

I love the logic here, give players the ability to dodge but then punish them for dodging too much makes sense. I still can’t believe a dev said that dodging was prevalent in GW2 ….

boon duration is about to get nerfed too m8. Can’t win for losing.

Oh I must have missed that part, was that in the twitch stream from last week? I was listening to it while at work so that detail could have slipped by. If they want to keep on bashing us with a nerf bat that’s fine, I have one lvl 80 in every class and EQN is supposed to come out at some point this year so I’ll just wait it out and see.

So glad I haven’t invested in any ascended armors yet, and I weep for those who have…

Wildstar though it is published by NCSoft and EQN is scheduled to release in 2014 unless that’s changed recently. There’s also ESO, it is subscription based but it’s still another MMO in the pool. I agree that GW2 needs some healthy competition.

Yeah sounds to me like the instance owner left the group which is bad game design. The best way to ensure this doesn’t happen again is to be the one who starts the fractal run yourself, or have a trusted friend start it.

on the plus side we are seeing more tweaks in dungeons as of late than we have in quite a few months, so I suspect something’s going on over there. They may have made a new team or just assigned a few tasks as a side project to an existing team. either way it seem that dungeons are being looked at. Cof P1 had a wall added and players are reporting changes to Arah as well that i haven’t had a chance to see them yet.

Agreed, the new changes are promising. Sure they missed tons of stuff that probably should have been done first. Arah p2 is in far better shape than it used to be. So at least there is some attention going on. Hopefully this is only the beginning of this trend.

You guys are so starved for anything positive that you think these are a sign of more dungeon attention. It’s like a starving man having delusions of a massive feast before he drops dead.

Starved? No, more like cautious optimism at best. That’s why I said it could just be a side project, no more than a sticky note on some guy’s monitor. “Place wall in COF 1”

Hmm you know i haven’t used my mesmer in a while is 0/30/0/25/15 the optimal setup at this time?

0/30/0/25/15 is indeed the optimal Mesmer build at this time. I would recommend 10/20/0/25/15, though, until the player is more comfortable with mantras.

And to the OP, go ascended zerk if you can. Learn to use blurred frenzy defensively and use scepter in the cases you need to range. You will see your ability to survive increase a lot. I think the current standard is sitting at 3 ascended assassin pieces (head/chest/legs) and 3 ascended zerker (boots/gloves/shoulders) with all zerk trinkets and weapons; however, with the ferocity change full zerk might be better than an assassins mix.

Who cares, there is at least 3 more spots in the room.

That’s not actually why we’re reacting the way we are. The reaction is stemming from the lack of understanding why they thought that this was necessary to fix but so many other things were not. Also, I doubt many people even recognized that that room was not intended, given how it looked and the way it was mapped. It’s just odd, and is throwing some of us for a loop.

For me, I’m just wondering what else is next?

Yeah that was my initial take, why this in particular and why not let us know what’s going on; is there a new team, and will we get more surprises?

Something like that was suggested in the first (iirc) CDI. I do kinda wish there was some way of polling people at the end, and not just on the forum (since that is coloured as you guys put it). Then it is kinda the own persons fault they don’t fill it out and give their feedback.

We used in-game polls during the beta events a long time ago. Not sure what it’d take to get them in the live client but it’s worth discussing internally, if only to weigh the pros and cons. I’ll talk with the other leads about it soon. No promises on the outcome, though.

I just wanted to do a little follow up on this one, I’m very interested in the idea of in game polling for new events. I understand no promises were made but I would like to know if there was any progress either way.

And stealth patched no less, where is he? Where is the guy that’s doing stuff like this? What’s the point? How about you actually fix something that’s broken like when Bjarl stands in the middle of his room twirling his sword like moron? Because when you PUG it he always targets the player that doesn’t want to get anywhere near him.

Anyone else have some bugs/problems that actually need attention?

How about the WP in Arah P2 or is that working as intended? We’ll never know because we didn’t get patch notes on that either….

That’s the thing. I can’t understand why, of all things, that needed to be patched. Like, why?

Either they have a crack dungeon team that’s determined to make dungeons more annoying and less fun, or someone has loosed a bag of cats upon Anet HQ and keyboards were sat upon. That’s all I got….

I haven’t had a chance to play it yet but from past experience I have set the bar fairly low and I find that really helps. It’s also best to not hop on the hype train, as it speeds through here on a somewhat consistent schedule you’ll only tire yourself out if you try to catch each one that passes by.

Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North says hi.

Anet produces better work when they have had a reasonable amount of time to design and test it.

Factions and Nightfall were not expansions. They were their own games and were being developed even before Prophecies was released as far as I remember.

The only actual expansion GW1 had was Eye of the North. And that didn’t really add much more than the LS have done (and it took much longer time to release that as well.)

According to Wikipedia, Prophecies what people may view as the base game for GW1, Factions, and Nightfall were all campaigns, and EOTN was the only expansion. So points for lordkrall, who is technically correct.

So EOTN is the only expansion? It still has more content that what we have so far with the LW. I’ll argue that all day if you like.

The thing is that exactly one year after Prophecies, Factions came out. What do we have to show a year later after GW2 has come out?

Hmm not quite the same is it?

Fair enough I’ll stop asking for expansions and start asking for Campaigns
As far as LW goes i wish they’d put that on hold and improve the core of the game but then again I also wish I had … ~pinky to corner of mouth~ One million dollars….

Yes, if we want things for dungeons to improve first we have to in a constructive way request for a dungeon team to be formed, and if we actually get one play nice.

Someone up top in Anet or NCsoft decided that LW is the way to go and that it’s ok to leave a large portion of the game and it’s players unattended, not Living really. The end game content, dungeons and fractals are in my opinion rife with bugs, actual exploits, and it’s getting stale. Dungeons for the most part are fine, but how about a new one or a hard mode or a 4th and 5th path? Removing a path for example and replacing it with a new one that is related to a story that is now a couple of months away from ending is not a good answer to this problem. Six months from now, will people running the Aether path wonder who the heck this giant red hologram is? I would have to say yes and no one will really care.

Sounds to me like the stacking opponents want to complain to the stacking proponents that stacking is bad but doesn’t want to actually say how it’s bad or how it can be fixed which is not constructive criticism. When logical reasons are presented by proponents as to why the system is the way it is, it’s dismissed as an excuse by the opponents of it of stacking the arguments seems to fall apart. At least we remain consistent, and we don’t mind if you don’t want to stack.

So on to why a dungeon team is needed, and is not an excuse.

First off as Clumsy has said there are far worse, actual exploits in dungeons. Some of these occasionally get fixed or altered but it is a rarity. I know they changed part of SE P3, and they also did work on Arah P2, but I’m not sure how moving a WP was a fix, almost makes me think the designers grabbed an older stack of code and accidentally removed a WP but without design notes from the patch release to tell us we’ll never know 100%.

How is the LW team is supposed to fix dungeons or add a whole new dungeon not a few paths that caused stirs of mixed reactions at best when they are too busy creating new LW content and have deadlines to meet? I think those people have enough on their plates already.

Also you don’t need a dungeon building team to figure out the rewards portion of the dungeon the economists can work that out on their own. I’m sure they have a formula of hours spent to gold earned. Dungeon teams would make and improve dungeons I’d imagine they don’t get much say when it comes to rewards. They’d collaborate with the economists at best.

How many weeks has it been since the forum was rearranged? Has anyone seen a dev post in this forum yet? Wasn’t that one of the reasons why the forum was rearranged to get better communication going? I’m not asking that a dev post here I’m just making a point that there’s still no dev traffic. When they announced the forum changes I got optimistic that we may get some feed back on here from them. Maybe we will in a month or so but then again it could be business as usual on here with no developers posting. Hey it’d be a daunting job, so we should all play nice if one shows up.

In the mean time as I said before if you want better dungeons then Anet needs to know that people still care about them enough to ask for a dungeon team. You have to get someone allocated before work can begin.

On another note, I have never understood complaining over free content….. Now if we had to pay $15 a month to play this and got mediocre content (not saying that the content we are getting is mediocre, but that is certainly the feeling of many people who infest these boards) then I could see your genuine concern, but everything we are getting is free of charge. Who complains about free stuff? It baffles my mind.

Free doesn’t always mean good and by the quality of the living story and that we get it for free… Well, all I can say is you get what your pay for.

This, I will pay for an expansion, campaign, what ever you want to call it. In the mean time I’d rather they fix the core of the game (balancing, bug fixes, QOL updates) than add another layer of fluff and potentially more bugs.

Everyone will give different answers based on personal opinions. Your personal opinion that stacking is detrimental to your game experience is unfortunate but, I think you are trapping yourself in your own box. Stacking is a valid strategy, but it is not the only strategy that can be applied in dungeons. Stacking is a refinement of older tried and true strategy that people don’t seem to complain about, Pulling, grabbing one or a smaller number of mobs from a larger force and fighting them on your own terms rather than rushing in gung-ho and getting wiped. Both are efficient ways of dealing with mobs, and it is in human nature to be efficient that’s part of what got us to where we are today as a species.

Lastly everyone that says stacking is bad doesn’t really give reasons as to why they think it’s bad or really give ideas on how to fix it, they just say it’s bad. Perhaps if someone said we wouldn’t need to stack if trash didn’t have huge health pools that’d be a good start. But it doesn’t matter because we don’t have a dungeon team. So the first step in all of this is to start making threads about why we don’t’ have a dungeon team rather than why stacking is bad.

This is really no good argument. Because don’t we all? When someone says this in the stacking context for example, it would simply suggest that you just want the game to be the way it is because it fits your playstyle more.

stacking came about because of how the game was designed, this isn’t the play style this a response that the system has produced. It is one response, a widely agreed upon response but there are more than one. You can call it a play style but players who know why stacking works will argue that it is the most efficient answer to a given situation. Play style is more akin to how you present yourself, or choices you make during combat based on what you want to do rather than what works best.

Why not create your own team and play the way you want? As it stands right now you can choose to either stack or not. You can be as creative as you like in combat no one is forcing you to join random parties and stack with them because they want to. Making your own party and playing with like minded individuals lets everyone enjoy the game. Suggesting that stacking is bad and should be removed from the game is one side telling the other side how to play. They have no more right to do so than the other side suggesting that stacking must always be done. Proponents of stacking have always said if you do not wish to stack please make your own party, while opponents of stacking have always suggested the game needs to be changed so that stacking is no longer an option.

Stacking doesn’t allow for mechanics to happen? Well you are saying this in hyperbole but again it makes me wonder if players who oppose stacking really know why stacking happens to begin with. What are the advantages of stacking and what mechanics are we actually utilizing that seemingly go unseen. Again, players who want to stack and clear the dungeon in the fastest time possible have just as much right to do so as players who do not wish to stack and fight in a less disciplined fashion that they may refer to as their own play style. You wish to take your time in a dungeon and play it at your own pace please do so, just make your own party for it. Under the current model stackers and nonstackers can play in a manner that makes both sides happy.

It’s only a problem if you perceive it as one, proponents of stacking don’t see it as a problem. Secondly there is no dungeon team until that problem is resolved nothing will change. Lastly, I think it would be nice if all the stacking threads were merged into one but I cannot make that call, and that’s just my opinion.

… or what ever the thread is about? Did you not read it? Secondly the poster bought the game they can play it how they want within the rules of the game, if they don’t like it then they bought the wrong game or are playing the wrong game mode. Dungeons are not meant for all players. It’s not a closed instance of 5 man PVE like Personal Story or LW it’s supposed to be challenging, but dungeons have largely remained unchanged for over a year so what was once challenging has become run of the mill for who people have ran the same paths hundreds of times. A dungeon team might be able to breathe new life into dungeons or better yet make some brand new ones, so we can have a mix of old a new dungeons.

I fought it a few times i’d rather not do it again. That particular part taught me the importance of clearing space in between runs, or having so many bags it didn’t matter, but yeah sometimes we have to learn the hard way. Funny now when I look back on it, i wasn’t about to leave that charged core.

The reason why I say I’m uncertain if it will matter is that they have a business to run and profit to make. They are going to choose which ever method will make the most money and that’s understandable from a business perspective. I’m sure they care about the game and it’s customers

A game with the extreme reliance on RNG and gambling boxes that this has is not one where the devs display a lot of care about the players.

I frown on your half quoting. I hate RNG as much as the next player Dragon Bash was just awful for it. But enough players keep clicking boxes and buying keys to turn a profit otherwise they wouldn’t have given us a new set of weapons every other month this year. Fused, Dreamthistle, Blood and Madness, Zodiac, Sclerite, Aetherized, and Jade. That’s 7 weapon sets, I’m sure they’ve got metrics to back up the number of people throwing money at them when they put out a new set. So money talks, and they are going to please the most players that they possibly can because they have a business to run. Think of it this way, buying the game gets you entrance to the club, buying gems puts you in the VIP section. The VIP section will always take priority over people that only paid the cover charge. The game has to stay afloat it’s either this or a monthly subscription for now.

Do I play the RNG game? No, I bought 5 black lion keys once and immediately regretted that decision.

I’m gonna tell you right now. You will not receive an official response on this. Yep. I know, it’s funny. It’s also depressing. A dungeon team does not currently exist. The only feedback you will receive here is from dungeon forum regulars.

Here’s mine:

lvl 35 drops are fine. Why? Because it gives access to lower tier materials from salvage that you normally wouldn’t come across as an 80.

Many dungeons need an overhaul, especially in the ways of giving loot from trash mobs and new uses for tokens. I would love to see a hard mode setting much like in GW1 with unique skin rewards, but we all know how that would go down with the many who could choose to opt out but instead would rather dictate that such a mode doesn’t exist because ‘leetism hurts teh communities! This would also require resource investment from development which won’t happen because it will not = enough of a profit.

In all however, I would like to see them just say kitten it, leave the dungeons as is and start over. Make a whole set of entirely new dungeons. So many of us are just bored of doing the same thing over and over. You can change the encounters but at the end of the day it’s still the same content.

Also ‘zerker or gtfo’ is not the prevailing attitude. There is however a ‘I am making my own team and I want this in it.’ attitude which everyone is entitled to. This enables the freedom for you to make your own party and also decide what you want in it.

Stacking and skipping may deserve their own sticky separate from the FAQ. You could probably put them together in one topic. I was thinking about this but I don’t know how to write one without burning the place down, but I am not the keeper of the FAQ so maybe it can be worked in here.

I wish I could make a thread about eliminating complaining about stacking.

+1 we get a new one of these every week.

I haven’t done one yet, that’s why I feel obligated. Have to continue the tradition.

Yeah but we already have a stacking thread that’s most recent post isn’t even a day old, so that’s pretty active.
