I am so glad I did not buy HOT. I knew it wouldn’t be worth 50$ and to me it was confirmed when they rolled HOT together with the core game as the only way to purchase it.

They canned EQ next? What the crap? I was gonna play that. I don’t get out on the googles much.

~5 minutes later~

Well after a quick search I think I may go hang up my MMO hat for a while. There was a brief time were GW2 was awesome and great it had such a good foundation at launch it’s amazing what you can do with a series of bad decisions.

Though a new director may mean new direction, it doesn’t mean it will be a good direction. I certainly am not expecting much, but go get ‘em MO! I had plans for playing EQ Next and they are gone now so it’s just another disappointment in a long series of disappointments called life.

I’m going to go outside … the sun is still out there.

I’m fine with this, GW 2 really needs some new focus and in my opinion the game’s current state wasn’t that great so try what ever you like to make improvements. Time is the only thing that will tell if it was a good decision or not.

I’m not playing the game that much any more anyways of course if you guys manage to do something great and awesome with it I would happily come back but I’m just one player and my idea of great and awesome may not line up with your team’s idea of great and awesome is.

I only recently came back to the forums because I heard GW2 got a new director and I can certainly say that the game’s previous directions were not directions I was particularly fond of to say the least.

What new fractals would you like to see?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

Hmm well since fractals seems to focus on events in the past they could just add some of the dungeon content to factals, close off the old dungeons except for the story paths. Then use fractals as a sort of dungeon lobby/portal, while still rewarding dungeon tokens. Then use this mechanic add new dungeons. Since they have a team for fractals it gets to be the new dungeon team!

I’m kinda tired of the 3 fractal set up with not much in the way of rewards.
So basically make fractals the launch point for all dungeons and make the rewards for each path cleared to reflect the difficulty or length of the path. For example, easy paths may rewards rares, medium paths can rewards rares and exotics, stupid hard paths have a chance at ascended gears. Or perhaps the more difficult the path the more tokens you get, while adding ascended versions of gear to the dungeon token vendor for a crap ton of tokens. This would allow for a lot of freedom when adding new paths or content and adjusting the rewards as time goes by. It’s a total fractal rework that people may possibly find fun!

This idea came about because the dungeon rewards vendor got consolidated to one NPC, so I say consolidate dungeons and fractals, and take the best parts of both

Of course this is all entirely what I would like to see and my own opinion.

Dungeons Gold Rewards Need Rebalance ! [Merged]

MastaNeenja.1537

I stopped playing GW2 because of the dungeon nerf, among other things. I swing by here every now and then to see if anyone gives a crap, both players and the developers. It’s nice to see that the players care enough to ask for something with regards to dungeons. It was good fun content that I always felt needed to be expanded upon in one form or another, not nerfed down to pointlessness . One could argue that’s the whole point of fractals but it’s not the same, and certainly didn’t feel all that rewarding.

There’s plenty of games that are both fun and rewarding where I don’t play through the same 8 dungeons over and over with no hope of getting anything new. In the years that I played I ran hundreds upon hundreds of dungeon paths I wish they had some sort of counter incorporated for that.

If they ever add more dungeons or continents to this game (Cantha) or better yet new continents with new dungeons I would most likely advise Anet to shut up and take my money in the most polite way possible.

MastaNeenja.1537

I’m not paying 50$ for 20$ worth of content sorry I just can’t do that, I have standards. I have the core game I bought it long before the game launched. It was worth 50$. If you let Anet tell you that you are buying the expansion and they are throwing in the core game for free then you are buying right into their marketing. It’s a 20$ game wrapped in a 50$ package. I actually envy new players to the game because they do get a pretty sweet deal. Which a lot of them don’t seem to appreciate those perks. But I am not paying 100$ to get access to the same features they have. Standards, people, standards… When Anet prices HOT for 20-30$ I will think about buying it.

That being said, this post seems like it wants to start a flame war.

I don’t mind that the expansion is out I don’t mind that there’s new things to do in PVE that I can’t get to, because its new and I have to pay for it. I understand how business works.

But this is PVP where it’s supposed to be a level playing field and it’s clearly not. My biggest beef is that when you rolled a new character jumped into PVP and you would have access to all the skills before HOT was released. Except for that time when they made you buy skills with gold which was dumb. Thankfully they got rid of that. So why not now? Now to have access to all the skills in PVP you have to buy the expansion. That is Pay to Win.

When you play PVP it should be a level playing field and everyone should play from the same skill pool when there’s a break in the access of skills because of real world money that’s Pay to Win. I’m sorry I can’t be nice about that, it’s a fact.

I can’t think of a better way to advertise some HOT’s features than to let core players have access to HOT skills only in the PVP mode. How cool would that be? Would anyone have a valid complaint about that? That’s what an awesome game developer would do they would keep their PVP playing field fair and level like it’s supposed to be. They would also derail the hype train and develop good content that would stand on its own and not make players feel like they are forced into buying something to level the playing field.

I ain’t even mad, now I’m gonna go play.

This is the whole reason why i haven’t got HOT yet when you compare the Core game to HOT both were 50$ base price brand new the amount of content you got for the core game is substantially greater. Now I’m not asking for Anet to make an expansion the same size as the core game. But I do not feel that HOT should be valued at $50.00 this is why I have not yet purchased HOT though I have had the game since launch. I am waiting for the price to drop or for the game to go on sale.

HOT should not have been exclusively priced at $50.00 (or higher) and packaged together with the core game.

HOT should also be available as a standalone purchase in my opinion.

I decided to wait for the expansion to launch and see if it actually had enough new stuff to merit a full price for a game and I am still on the fence about it at best.

a fun, challenging, teamwork oriented game that is equally rewarding for completing difficult challenges

certainly not a game that is constantly being lead by a marketing strategy in which the player base is expected to be a part of the newest update available to said game. if players are happy with the standard content of the game and choose not to participate they will face the daunting prospects of little support or innovations for the portions of the game that they actually enjoy playing up to and nerfing the rewards for said content under the guise of keeping the economy of the game in check. I am not just referring to HOT this goes back to LS Seasons 1&2 the most recent developments have just been the worst part of it.

There have been plenty of players over the years that have politely requested new dungeons and more difficult end game content as opposed to grinding out cheesey boring stories that are tied to gemshop outfits and weapons and eventually over priced expansions.

The gameplay mechanics and skills are great for the most part, apparel customization is top notch, PVE can be really fun under the right conditions, SPvP still needs work but is fun to play, and wvw used to be awesome but i got tired of playing against the same two servers for over a year.

There’s a good game structure under all this marketed BS, mediocre difficulty and poor rewards system we have to deal with.

I think it’s funny that they nerf things when players find the path of least resistance but they get to do it themselves lol.

Its all about marketing. They really don’t want people to run dungeons because they can’t market that as easily.

Also I think the base of players that can actually run dungeons efficiently must be pretty small. I chose the words in that last sentence words carefully.

Dungeons are hard to make, and the developers are inept or don’t care about them. They can’t fix bugs that have been in some dungeons since launch. But it’s ok I’m not a programmer and I don’t care if they get fixed or not I still enjoy running dungeons even with flaws.

They have tried to make content to get people into doing other things while plenty of players have requested more dungeons over the years. I preferred dank o’l Ascalon Catacombs to the boring Scarlet story arch and Season 2. Never mind the gold rewards.

They know that the only way to get people to buy HOT during it’s initial release (when it is critical that they sell the most copies) is to make the core game less rewarding or appealing that’s why they packaged it together, to make HOT appear more like a full game. There’s actually better ways to make money than running dungeons. It’s just an excuse to get people to want to pay $50.00 for the $20.00 worth of game that HOT actually is.

Ultimately Anet and NC Soft want to make money and they want you to play the game their way as much as possible for marketing purposes. They know that if people can make enough in game gold to convert to gems they are losing sales.

Words like “economist” and “inflation” are used to make their decisions sound more important than they actually are. It’s just a game if all the servers melted tomorrow life would go on.

I am simply waiting for a better alternative to GW2, I don’t play it as frequently as I used to. I do not expect that this game will rebound and be better than it was when it first launched because for what few faults it had at that time it was the best game available. They really didn’t have an end game thought out too well after all the maps were explored and all the dungeons were ran there’s not much to do. Every time they have tried to do something about this it’s met with mixed reviews much like what I am seeing with HOT so far.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MastaNeenja.1537

The thing is that for some people $50 is under-priced. They would have paid more. For some people $50 is just right. It is the limit of what they were going to pay anyway. For others it is too much. For those people HoT will go on sale at some point.

A merchant wants to be able to reach as much of their potential target customer base as possible. They will start something at the upper limit of what some will pay and lower prices over time in order to draw in customers not willing to pay prime pricing for first access. The sales generally need to be delayed from launch to avoid convincing those willing to pay prime prices that waiting a few days or weeks will save them a significant amount of money. The key really is in finding that sweet spot of initial prime pricing and time delay for discounting.

Ultimately, if a product (any product, not just a game expansion) is priced beyond what one feels it is worth….one should hold off on buying it until the pricing comes down.

There is nothing wrong with a merchant attempting to maximize sales revenue, nor with a customer waiting for a sale.

Yeah that’s just business, they aren’t making this game out of the kindness of their hearts they need to feed the kids and pay the bills.

This is also a pricing feed back thread, and I wanted to constructively give my feed back on the pricing, as I encourage every one to do.

However, I like many others, already own the core game and I don’t want to buy it again so why am I paying for it if I don’t want it exactly?

Whether or not HoT is worth $50 is a personal decision. Currently I am not convinced that it is worth buying at all. That, of course, may change as more information is released.

But, specifically in reference to the quoted section of your post, you are not buying the core game again. You are buying the expansion. In an attempt to draw in new players Anet is providing a bonus for new accounts. This isnt all that much different than what many retailers do to attract new customers.

Attracting new customers is important for Anet and GW2 because it means income. it is important to players because it means income to replace the inevitable drop off from those who leave or run out of things to buy in game. More people to play with, more resources for development, in general a healthier game.

Again, is $50 too much ? That will vary from person to person. Right now, based on what we have seen so far, I would say that $5 is too much. On the other hand I would be willing to pay $100 or more if the expansion addressed my concerns and desires for the game.

That’s their marketing, approach. If you don’t get the core game and HOT for 50$ then you’re really getting the short end of the stick. This is really the only way they could come close to justifying 50$ for HOT. If I didn’t own GW2, I would pay $50 for what they are selling because you get HOT and the core game. The expansion itself is simply not worth 50$ on it’s own. Furthermore I doubt HOT will be the only expansion GW2 ever has, no way will I drop $50 every time an expansion comes out if it is handled like HOT.

At least I’ve taken the time to explain why in my opinion I think they are over charging for HOT. When it does release I may buy it if I see the value in it but based on what I can see right now I wouldn’t spend more than $30 on it. I am being a little generous with that because before HOT was published I think the core game itself was $40 and would occasionally go on sale for $10 during a promotion to attract new players. The core game by itself is worth $40 considering all you get, but as i have listed above in my previous post there’s not enough content (or advertised content) for HOT to carry 50$ on it’s own.

50$ not to steep when you consider that a lot of the updates for HOT, are coming to us free too. New pvp and wvw map access by all, even if you do not have HoT. There who knows what else is comming before release, and after release most likely patches and such. 50$ also goes to pay the work force since all most people done is donate money when they buy gems, they have not ask for a penny after you bought the game, and as such, it might be worth to buy their work to play. You can still wait, no harm in that, but to me, it does seem like were getting a fair deal. Yeah we had to fight a little for the character slot, but that seem good in the long run, as I am sure, if we get a new expansion they will take the lesson learn here more to heart too.

That’s the problem we don’t know what’s coming. I paid 50$ before and got approximately 25 maps , 8 professions, 8 dungeons, 5 character slots, 5 races, and a multi path personal story just to hit on the high points of what the core game offered the day it was installed.

That said, the best i can glean from ambiguous advertising for HOT is,

1. A new profession, this is pretty self explanatory

2. Specializations for each class, players got to try this recently over the BWE and the feed back is mixed, some good some bad.

3. Guild Halls … ok cool, we get guild halls, and this means? What I am getting at is not much has been said here about Guild Halls other than that they are going to be a thing now.

4. A mastery system, which give skills that are specific to the new content. Outside of the new content where are you going to need to go " hang gliding in the jungle" or be engaged in “tearing the bark off of heavily armored Mordrem”? Yeah that’s right you aren’t going to be hang gliding over the Plains of Ashford or facing Mordrem in Sorrow’s Embrace. You’ll only need these skills in the new zones which leads me to my next point…

We have no idea how many maps the new content will contain. It could be the one that was shown in the BWE or there could be 3 more but its doubtful that it will be 25 maps worth to explore.

I guess since we are getting the new PVP and WVW map there’s no need to include these in the list since it’s basically free. They have gave us plenty of new maps and Living story content already for the 50$ or less that we paid depending on when we purchased the core game.

I just haven’t seen enough material here to equal 50$ worth of gameplay, and you are correct in that we had to FIGHT for that character slot. That wasn’t part of the initial package.

Lastly packing the core game with a vague amount of expansion content together just to set the price and 50$ is a questionable move. This only benefits someone who doesn’t’ have GW2 at all, which would be a fair deal for them. However, I like many others, already own the core game and I don’t want to buy it again so why am I paying for it if I don’t want it exactly? I don’t want another account either, I just want to buy the HOT content at a lower price point than the HOT content and the core game bundled together at 50$ because I already have the core game.

The two products should be separated and the prices should be different, but of course they can sell them as a bundle for 50$.

HOT isn’t a full game so why pay full price for a partial game?

I haven’t done a dungeon since I got dungeoneer… hell I need to get 5 runes of the nightmare from TA for engi and I’m dreading it.

You can only run so many dungeons before it makes you want to shoot yourself.

Yeah i kinda feel like that sometimes.

that’s why speed running and the meta was born. get in make your gold and get on with your life because other than the addition of fractals there’s been no new real dungeon content since launch.

the biggest mistake they made was building the existing dungeons in such a way that it would be difficult to add new paths. Though they did manage to do that with TA it took considerable effort that they don’t seem to want to repeat. Probably has to do with complaints that they removed an old path in TA then added a new one that requires a little more brain activity that the average dungeon path to complete

If only they could add new paths to the dungeons that would be pleasant, I mean why is it that only Arah can have 4 paths? How about an AC path where we don’t fight a giant graveling? Or a treeless TA path? Or another HOTW path where you don’t fight the last boss under water? Or dare a say a COE path that doesn’t have Alpha in it?

It’ll never happen, but i can dream can’t I?

well we’ve all done them hundreds of times, I’ve seen no news that there’s any new ones coming so it wouldn’t surprise me if there are fewer dungeon runs per day.

If there are less LFGs people have probably formed tight nit groups, joined dungeon guilds, or found a new game to play.

Personally I log in about every other day now and I am only on for a short amount of time 15-30 mins. I may run dungeons once a week as compared to what used to be a nightly practice. I don’t anticipate much for HOT thankfully this game doesn’t have a monthly subscription so maybe one day they may release stuff I care about and I’ll become a regular again.

I am a vet player and I’ll leave it at that part. I don’t feel like a single new character slot is is a fair compensation for the base price of the new expansion. I just simply want to purchase the HOT content separately from the core game. If the Living Story chapters can be sold separately why can we not purchase the HOT content separately at a lower price point than 49.99?

This is the part where I am going out on a limb and saying that I am not alone, many Vet players would appreciate an option such as this. As it stands right now I do not see a pricing option that fits what I am looking for. I don’t feel like i should have to pay for the game again and possibly again if another expansion comes out. Until I get a good idea of the actual volume of the content I do not see the value in paying 49.99 for an expansion. If it was a full campaign maybe but it is not that so it doesn’t matter.

I would urge the powers that be to consider as many options as possible when selling their product. If you reach out and offer many options you will make more sales.

4/6/0/0/4

Zeal: Fiery Wrath, zealous blade
Radiance: blinding exposure, powerful blades, right hand strength
Virtues: Master of consecrations, absolute resolution

sword focus, GS and scepter for range

slot wall (and spirit shield) as needed , purging flames, retreat, bane signet, group stability is useful in snow blind, so SYG and Hallowed Ground are good too.

you get party wide condi cleanse from Virtue of Resolve activation and purging flames this also creates a fire field for might stacking, focus 4 also cleanses

berserker gear and trinkets, ruby orbs or runes of the flame legion if you’re broke, runes of the scholar if you can afford it. sigil of force, don’t bother with stacking sigils as you lose stacks between fractals.

if you die too much take 5 out of Strength and slot into Honor for extra dodges, run knight’s armor, can also use sigils of energy for extra dodges.

this is a versatile build that has a high damage potential that works well with a competent group, this build is also effective in dungeons there are better builds as far a damage goes but this is a good starting point.

if you want to run tanky i can’t help you there.

Mace = Worthless

any instance where you want to use right and strength but have to deal with reflects or projectile absorption because the 3rd chain with sword is treated as a projectile.

The domes in TA path 2 make sword auto useless, this also hurts WW (GS2) a bit since it has projectiles. you wouldn’t want to use any other one handed weapon against an enemy that reflects projectiles such as mesmers and guardians in wvw or SPVP.

its actually useful against high damage foes like the Archdiviner in FOTM because you have an extra block with mace 3 and the small heal can help out here as well.

in general I prefer the sword but mace is a viable alternative for certain situations if you know where to apply it.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

This is strictly my opinion which is what feed back is about, personal opinion about a product.

I do not like the new daily system here’s why:

before on many days i would get my daily without even trying to do a daily, it just happened for example I would be in the middle of the dungeon run and the I would get a daily complete notification, without even looking at the list of daily chores i could pick from I would have completed my daily rewards. this is a huge plus, why? because it’s not tedious to do it just happens through playing what ever mode i felt like playing that day, it’s fluid and really when you get a free daily like this it’s rather pleasant.

which brings me to my next reason, I now have to go out of my way to get a daily and most of the dailies seem to revolve around a specific mode of play. visiting vistas or doing events in certain maps for example, rather than just dodging X amount of times while playing in any mode. this wouldn’t be so bad except for the fact that there are simply fewer dailies to pick from. unless of course i want to play SPVP which I rarely do or WVW which I will do on occasion. Having played the game since launch I think I know which modes I prefer the most. I don’t think the game needs this much emphasis on trying out new modes, most players know what they want to do before the log in the first time and if they don’t then they will get curious and try out the available game modes. well I guess I shouldn’t speak for everyone, but typically when I purchase a game it’s because I have some expectation of how it will play and I will give all available modes a try because I did pay for the game and i want to get the most out of it. I rarely buy games on a whim, but anyway…

rather than gather 15 times where ever you feel like it now you have to gather 10 specific types of materials in one zone. I’d rather just go hit rocks 15 times in what ever map I feel like honestly. this is the same with events as well.

I also think that daily fractal runner shouldn’t be limited to 1-10, it shouldn’t actually have a fractal level limit, this would allow players who want to get their daily doing higher level fractals to do so while at the same time letting new players get the same reward for doing a level 1 fractal. again this makes dailies less intrusive and allows the players to play how they want rather than task themselves with go to X and complete Y.

the new dailies have less options and are more specific about what you need to do VS having to do a little more work (one more event or 5 more gathers) but having the freedom or flexibility to choose where you want to work on your daily at.

because of this, dailies in my opinion, are now more of a chore than ever.

GW2 does need more dungeons, they can be more challenging or not I don’t care I just want some new scenery and things to do that specifically involve dungeons.

Oh I know in all likely hood the drop rate would be terribad.

But I have all these rings I don’t know what to do with them. I don’t feel like running fractals until they make it worth my while again.

Or make the boxes drop at 40+ until they raise the cap. Just sayin’.

I mean sheesh…Hype up a reward, add it to the game, and then make it inaccessible…

I have no words for that.

That’s what I championed; at the very least that box should drop at level 50, but I will take what I can get at this point no need to unreasonable.

Anet provided the LFG tool so you can find other people to play with, if all you are seeing is path Sellers parties OP, I fully encourage you to make your own party through LFG, I have used it numerous times with varying degrees of success. I assure it it works quite well for gathering players into a party. You can be as specific as you like with your description, or a simple P1 will do to let everyone know your intentions of running first of the selectable 3 exploration paths available.

There’s no need to feel like you are required to join existing parties when you can make your own. It is to my understanding that everyone has the ability to advertise for a party using the LFG system this not an unlockable feature. The only requirement is that you need to have a character that is at the required level to participate in the dungeon you are interested in running.

Enjoy your dungeon running experience, may you find like minded players to share in your journey through the depths of Tyria

I think we are ready for 51 31 and up

I suppose most people are recovered enough for another reset.

There will never be a full recovery for that, never forget!

What happened with Fractured was botched, and we never did get our leader boards, and those that pushed the farthest into fractals did it all for naught.

But right now we are hard capped at 50 and have nothing better to do since they admitted that there were no major plans for dungeons in near future. The least they could do is throw us a bone and raise the fractal cap 5 to 10 levels.

what and let everyone finally pick the fractal weapon they want? but they have so many more rings to give out.

in all seriousness I would give this a +2 if I could. it’s been months since Fractured happened, I think we are ready for 51 and up

Guild Wars on PC and Consoles?

Sure they can put it on console, anything to get Anet more money so they will finally have the resources they need to give us a campaign or some kind of purchasable expansion thing with new permanent content which would have more utilities, traits, weapons, professions, zones to explore, and dungeons.

Season 2’s story telling is an improvement over season 1 but I’ve never played an MMO that tried so hard to incorporate a single player story before.

I’ve been waiting for new dungeons for over a year, we still have the same 8 dungeons with only minor tweaks (so minor that they forget to list them in the release notes) , one path swap, and a severely botched Fractured update for Fractals.

I had to sit through Scarlet, and to top it off, Anet has said they have no major plans for dungeons at this time.

So yeah be happy with what you have. You’ve been with the haves for nearly two years while the have-nots have been sidelined.

There’s nothing wrong with not playing meta and not wanting to – the actual problem lies in people on either side trying to impose their view on others in regards to ‘moral’ grounds. You get PVT heroes making rude remarks to berserker users and you have people who use the aforementioned gear making remarks about the non-meta players. Some people just flat out don’t want to run meta, and the people who drone the meta need to get over that.

Yeah they really need to play in separate sand boxes, and leave each other alone. If only people could read and use the LFG tool properly but that’s asking a lot, I know.

Well when they introduced Fractured they made mention of a fractal weapon container! it was supposed to be this magical box that would allow you to pick the fractal weapon skin of your choice!. They said that it would drop in high level fractals.

What a good thing I thought, surely if I work may way up to the highest fractal available i might get lucky and get one of these one day.

They later informed the player base that the fractal weapon containers would indeed drop in higher level fractals but the fractal levels in which they would drop were not accessible from the Fractured update and the Fractured page was promptly edited to not mention the weapon container afterwards.

Have you tried killing the HotW troll?

This never gets old :-P

Still cracks me up.

It is copy paste at its finest.

on to OP, if you didn’t get your rewards it’s possible you did story, or that you left the instance before the chest spawned, for example if someone in your party was watching the scene that plays after the boss is defeated. That’s still a thing right?

I can only speak for myself but as far as leveling goes I thought things were fine months ago before the trait over haul. The only nice thing they added was swapping traits on the fly. What you get now for leveling is just blatant hand holding.

2. No roles. By removing the trinity and not replacing it with anything the game became a free for all dps fest. ……..

In order to make zerker less popular you would need to rebuild the game from the ground up and fix those two issues.

Or if you had that much issue with how the game is designed from the ground up you’d probably be better off looking elsewhere to get your MMO fix.
