WvW gets hero points with ranking up. You get some “coins” that you turn in, which unlocks a random hero point location in HoT.
I got 39 of these during a decent zerg run in one night (although I had a birthday booster going.)
Edit: I have not tried EOTM yet, but you should rank up the same in EOTM I would think. Also apparently the coins are account bound, but they come in a chest that you can store and open on another toon apparently (havent tried this yet either).

Solo players cannot advance in the new content, and any decent publisher would disclose such a fundamental change prior to taking your money.
So, what ever happened to scaling events? I don’t have a problem with most of the areas except that hero points should be able to be soloed. Making the leveling for mastery and hero points a grind is one issue, making the hero points unobtainable for a single roamer is terrible.
On the bright side, I unlocked 3 hero challenges in a few hours of WvW so that is probably the preferred route for hero points for me right now.
How did you guys get 400 hero points already?
I propose we shut down WvW at night, it’s unfair that I train all day and upgrade stuff just for night cappers to take it undefended… I put a lot of hard work into following the blue tag and when I log off at the end of the day I have everything fortified, I should be compensated for my hard work if night cappers can take it for free when I go to bed, WvW should be shut down when I go to bed, it should only be open during prime time of the only time zone in the world cause Australia is the only time zone that players play in..

If you aren’t in the US central time zone you shouldn’t be allowed into WvW at all IMHO.
You realize statements like these will make your entire guild KOS to enemy servers right?
What you’re describing and admitting to is trolling/purposefully griefing. And I believe you can get banned for that.

She’s admitting to being purposefully disruptive and attacking teammates in order to get them to leave. It’s griefing.
Nope, they were wiping out the enemy on their map who happened to be trying to GVG their teammates. You are supposed to wipe out the enemy on your map and no amount of make-believe GvG etiquette rules can change that.
Obsidian Sanctum has lovely locations for GvG; in BLs, disruptions should be expected.

Exactly, yes I’m in T3. I suppose I’ll have to start trolling them or bringing a large force to teach them that they don’t own the map. Still, it isn’t working as intended, and it won’t be as much fun as WvW should/used to be.
you may need to go as far as tanking some matches, its unfortunate but true, just let the other servers go take your stuff for a while and forget recapping. camp them instead of objectives, its that simple. yea you may end up sliding down for a couple weeks, but then they will rage even more, and since you’ll break them up, they will have to server hop. thats how you get them out.
And so the cycle begins. Setting clock countdown for T3 implosion…. now.
Yep the “f2p” has already cost WvW players several thousand in gold with disappearing siege. Please fix or ban f2p players from WvW until it is sorted out.
Listen if nothing else YB is proving they belong in the mix in T1.
No they aren’t. Quit the opposite actually.
It looks to me like a few more NA YB players need to lose or quit their jobs so they can play during the day.
yeah good points here guys, I wish they would overhaul the staff abilities. Change them up and actually make the useful… I really love the idea of having a staff on a guardian.
Staff guard is a mainstay in WvW and other circumstances as a major support weapon but is generally not needed if you are running around alone in PVE.
That being said, my first toon was a guard and I did map completion using a staff/GS the whole time before I knew any better.
So it sounds like its situation dependent; in a larger battle where you are being hit more often it probably still pays off, in small battles or 1v1s I also like Smiter’s Boon for sustained attack pressure.
Usually they give a base level backpack strap u can equip when you buy the wings too.
Focus Mastery: Gain protection when using a focus ability. Focus abilities have reduced recharge.
Looking at focus skills:
Ray of Judgement: Pass a ray over foes and allies. Foes are damaged and blinded. Allies gain regeneration and cure one condition.
Shield of Wrath: Create a shield to block the next three attacks. If the shield is not destroyed, it explodes and damages nearby foes.
So thinking of 1v1 or small scale fighting: we gain 4s of protection with the trait but with one skill we have blind and in the second skill we block attacks for 4s anyways; don’t these 2 things make protection somewhat worthless and is this trait sill worth taking for the cooldown over smiter’s boon?
Yeah I know it’s not that good, I mostly use scepter/focus as my swap weapon. but I just wanted to have it for might and swiftness between fights and stuff lol. and for zergs, mostly silverwastes and such x)
Yep I have S/F but keep a staff in inventory in case it’s needed for some reason (like swiftness in a chest train). About the only place staff may be useful in PVE that I can remember is for empowering the Teq zerg.
Hmmm I’m deciding which server to troll with my free alt(s).
They are named Dragonhunter for a reason. The skills are tailored to range and cc the flying dragons in HoT. There was one event in the first beta that showed DH’s potential value, but in the main beta I could not find the same flying dragon event.

Pretty much, equip staff, press 1 all day long = profit
Run nomad gear so you can’t die. Equip all signets so don’t need to press any utility

I run my mediguard roamer in SW w/ GS and Scepter focus and have pretty good luck. I also have Traveler runes to help run between forts. Mediguard is pretty easy to play, since it is a one trick pony (Judges’ intervention, pop all GS skills, switch to scepter to recover, repeat).
For bosses I’ll hit my normal bursts then back away and use scepter. Don’t be afraid to pop virtues and skills to help stay alive, and also disengage to recover.
Yeah join the club, I used to love how my guard could survive through bursts and help keep my squad alive and upright.
Now he’s just slow, low damage and dying with everyone else. Can’t wait for the guard stacks to go away too!
Hey , since this patch i dont find any build for me to roam solo with my guard .. before this patch , i played medi dps guard with gs and sword focus .. but now i think they nerfed the dps so much .. maybe can somebody post your build with weapons and sigil for me ?
My advice? Delete your guard and use that toon spot for a condi mesmer or ele. Guards and Warriors are pretty obsolete except for zergs and I can’t remember the last time I ran into a thief.
Well, I’m about ready to delete my guards and warrior because they are pretty much obsolete in WvW right now except for extremely large zergs. All mesmer all day every day for me now. Perma stealth, unbeatable burst and condi, and no need for siege (just port in!)
Yep, they should rename it Mesmer wars. Fun stuff anet.
They should add a monthly fee to people using WvW on high population servers since they have a third viable game mode that low tier servers dont have. Problem solved.

I’m wondering what AH guards are doing about healing power? Right now I’m running around with mostly soldiers gear and my healing power is a big fat zero thanks to the new trait system removing trait based increases. Do I need to bother with adding healing power with cleric trinkets as a support guard?
I’m going to miss rank up chests coming every 5 minutes.

Well if everyone has the exploit, its fair then is it not?
It is likely that Anet cannot even do a patch or end the event early as it will likely destroy golem inventories in the field worth thousands of gold. Imagine the uproar if they send out a patch and destroy a thousand golems in the process during the reset.
Why not spend your badges on golems and sell them for gold this week? Then treat yourself to something real nice.
This has been pretty hilarious for me so far; its pretty fun when you are the only one with a golem.
I was running around in my golem and noticed I was carrying 49 supply; I’m guessing its a bug related to building golems using 0 supply but I thought I would throw it out there.
Has this already started on EU servers? I’d be curious as to how its going.
Support builds have become irrelevant with the stab changes and the June update; build your glass cannon and get in there.

Good golly; throw some of those alphas into the forge for omegas next time; they are way more fun.
Night capping and population problems can be taken care of somewhat by a PPK / PPF (point per flip) system. Add in a bonus for taking an upgraded item.
Holding something over time already gives the huge advantage of upgrades; it should not also reward points just for holding it on an empty map.
An easy thing Anet can do with HoT pending is to base server population on glicko rating to try and drive new players into the lower tier servers. Right now their population ratings make zero sense under the mega server.
Here’s hoping DR, ET and IOJ see some recovery in WvW populations with HoT coming out.
Why do people hate Mesmer? Because having your entire zerg blindly spam attack #1 for 10 minutes while running around a keep you just capped to desperately find a perma-stealthed Mesmer does not make the game very fun to play.
Thieves used to be enemy #1, but they can’t port; its funny I don’t see too many thieves in WVW any more, its all mesmers.
I would be interested in a PPK style scoring experiment with no PPT; you would get points for
a) flipping something
b) killing someone
I believe this scoring would be more advantageous to low population servers than the current one, but would like to see it played out.
So now everyone who was complaining about WvW being stagnant are complaining about one week with a twist? C’mon people!
I can’t wait to see how the dynamic plays out. Get those points into golem mastery, gear up and have some fun!
I think my zerg spent a good 20 minutes trying to find and kill 3 mesmers hiding in bay last night; talk about annoying; way worse than thieves now.
Also I ran for two nights on my healing AH guard without any healing power stat and am starting to understand why cleric armor is going up on the TP. AH guard seems much weaker regardless.

I heard from others that warhorn has been made useless? Seems that Anet has gone a little condi happy and wants to see more death and destruction with fewer sustained fights.
It’s not just a zerg thing; I had over 2500 power on my guard roamer where I previously had about 2300 max with a similar build before the patch.
And I can take an NPC guard down 1v1 in about 4 seconds now with my burst
For PVE or WvW? I tried out this build a bit last night and was somewhat impressed:
I switched around a bit from this since I primarily use GS but am otherwise very similar. NPCs melt with this build; I generally run a Knight Zerker mix with some PVT mixed in on my mediguard and have Traveler runes since I’m primarily roaming in WvW.
I did try this out in Orr too and it was doing huge damage in PVE; havent done any PVP yet but I was basically running a PVP mediguard build before the trait changes for roaming.
I gave my new Mediguard roamer a quick whirl in WvW and was generally happy with it (after i figured out i had to retrait again for WvW).
NPCs melt (literally) with the burning burst and taking camps requires little effort. I also generally had good luck in 1v1s. The 1v1 could just be because other players haven’t figured out what to do with their own builds yet though.
There is nothing new here to complain about … we have always had traits aimed at specific weapons. If you took those lines and didn’t use those weapons, same as before. Patch hasn’t changed anything in that respect.
True, but not true. But previously we did more other choices. Did you look at the new adepts for Honor? mace, falling damage and revival traits and nothing else. They are not exactly something you would pick previously, no? So the patch did change in that respect: less other choices. Tell me, if you don’t use mace but need to take honor line, which other adept trait that you would use?
This sounds like it would have been the perfect place for them to put a speed boost trait (instead of falling damage; who the heck cares about falling damage!)
Nope! Stuck with Traveler Runes still if you want any speed!
I’m guessing both medi and AH will still be viable with the new trait system but it all depends on what the other classes are getting for buffs. It appears AH will lose any offensive ability they may have had with the loss of two-handed mastery.
If all other classes are getting more powerful while guards are getting nerfed, along with losing guard stacks, it could spell big trouble in WvW for guards.
Just remove PPT full stop…….only award points for capping/defending, killing enemy players…..you get more points for taking upgraded stuff and defending upgraded stuff etc etc…..
This makes more sense to me; eliminate the ticking element altogether
