atm barrage is a farm skill in wvw. its only deal real amount of dmg if the enemy not move out. 500 on heavy and 1000-1200 with crit on glass targets. long casting time, rooted cast, long cooldown. maybe if they compress the skill within 2 sec…

the pet system is our main problem. guardians, necros, mesmers have pets in utility slots. they use them if they need and change if not. only mesmers forced to use pets but they shatter them. rangers must keep pets alive. in big combats they melt within a second and sometimes we sacrafice our heal to save pet and in the next second we die without heal

gs is a deffensive weapon with one dmg skill(maul) its good in zerg fights but short sword is better in 1v1 fights (pvp and boss fights). i think gs is an excelent second weapon in most cases. but it has the power to be main

pets are our prof mechanic. i think no one argue. prof mechanics are for help you in hard situations.
but our mechanic die in hard situations. for example wvw, big bosses. they die from a random hit of a boss and melt down in wvw fights. against random, normal mobs they are good but there you dont need any help the more you need the less the pets help you.
i dont understand why pets not utility skills as in gw1.

spirits are for pvp. in wvw use gs/lb. standard pvp builds only good for solo roaming.
every old timer wvw ranger use nearly the same build after a time because of reasons what we all know.

missing loot from champions

I think everybody know this bug. when the escort event chain begin everybody go there and half of the players does not receive the loot chest from champas. and no, its not my low damage. in other champions 3-4k damage is enough for loot on orr map. but at this mobs it doesnt matter how many is my damage. once i hit 3 champions with my barrage. 2 only got damage from the barrage and i concentrated my fire on the third. i got loot from the 2 champions hit by only the barrage and no loot where my damage concentrated.
Is it something made by the lag? or theres only 30 place on the mobs loot list and when it filled no loot for others?

minion master builds never balanced. in wvw they are useless, in pvp they are op. if the devs give power to players skill gamestile minion skills become useless. otherwise they become op because easy to play. minions do the job.
my oppinion is devs need to remake spirits and pets.

i think anet need to rethink ranger pets/spirits/whatevers. minions are always OP or underpowered in every game. and gw2 is a very diverse game. large and small scale fights. lot of small or one shot mobs… its a nightmare. if i were a designer can do some changes. remake spirits to virtue like things (may the force(of nature) be with you young ranger!) add some pets whats not pets actually, just little invulnerable, intargetable things whats follow you and provide buffs.
if we are the jack of all trades and already got stealth why not continue with virtue?

first they need to remove root from sword #1. (its really OP in pvp but make it useless in other places) second we need other viable weapons and traits. AFTER that i will be totally OK with the nerf of the actual ranger meta.

i dont like the spirit mechanism, i dont like the pets. i hope they will change them with something aura or passive aoe signet effect. atm only signets are good in wvw fights.

You can’t really avoid a ranger’s sustained damage, but you can mitigate nearly all of a thief’s burst with really fast reaction and smart play.

I once got my jaguar to hit a warrior using a rifle for a super awesome crit around 12k on a single attack when all roided up from signet and shout, and getting a lucky crit. There’s potential, but it involves luck I can’t depend on, whereas a D/D thief can depend on his skill.

Also, despite my best efforts, I could not write a post that didn’t come across as defensive lol. I’m still a ranger through and through
I’m more upset that nobody said anything whatsoever about my “swooping” into the thread… I thought that was golden.

we are good in spvp because thats a very special thing. we need to protect very little points where pets have a chance to catch somebody and we fight mostly in 1v1 or 2v2. this cause short sword is an imba weapon with torch or dagger. 2-3 evade, condi, and you root yourself to an opponent. but this root thing makes it totally useless in nearly any other situation. once try it in a large scale combat. if u select a target u will die because soon you will find yourself in the middle of the enemy alone (your pet died long time ago) but if u not select target just slash as everybody else… thats fun. once i leaped that much i got out of combat. longbow is useless out of wvw. in pvp and most of the dungeons no space. but if there is space to reach maximum damage range u wont get buffs from your mates. axe: same as most of the ranged weapons. u must to select somebody, but need minimum 2-3 targets to stay close to each other but out of melee range where GS is better. too much if and but. SB is good second weapon in pvp and dungeon but nothing special. GS is our best weapon ATM i think but still not good in pvp and it need a blast finisher on maul because warhorn is less than nothing and only good in one specific setup in a specific team in a specific dungeon. in wvw/pvp useless.

and on a rifle warrior is not a big deal to deal that much dammage. they are often try to kill shot somebody so they run zerk. not killing an aiming warrior is shame. not moving target with low armor. once i saved my dude from a fatal hit by using serpents strike around the warrior and i was in the line of shot but the serpent gave me dodge so he wasted his chance

healing spring and mid damage. our pets wipe down whatever you do. the spring is unnecessary because every zerg have minimum 4-5 whos bring more than enough waterfields and non of the commanders ask an ele to reroll to something other because they have a ranger with spring :P
i still think maul need to be a blast finisher. guardian hammer have blast finisher with the same recharge. even mesmer have more blast finisher! prestige’s recharge is 30 sec.
we are soo close to be good in any situation
but now we are like something like this: (do you see the dreadful faces of the pets what brings fear in the heart of the enemy?)

or what if its “charge” your next dodge. something like sharpening stone or thief venoms. i dont like this evaid backward thing. you gain stability for 3-4 sec, evaid all attack and gain vigor. i dont need the dammage.
heavy classes have more surviveibility just because the armor.
this keep fightind and carry on thing sounds good but in wvw its only work with signets. and only for a short time.

this is why hard to use ranged weapons(axe is a nightmare) in wvw. if you want to see anything you will hit the mother earth, or watch the back of your character and nothing else (i hope you are a big, furball charr)

i think ranger in big fights is good. BUT! you must to practice 4 times more to be good in wvw as a warrior, 6x ele, 8x necro or 10 times as a guardian. engies need flame thrower and nades, thieves short bow spread poison what can win a fight, but they just still need go and collect lootbags.
lot of us like entagle but i think that a very bad skill in battles. lot of aoe, stability. what i prefer are runes and rao with troll. 26 secs stability, 6 secs immortality and enlarged damage. you can survive the first seconds where the most die. spam maul as much as possible for 4.5k unbuffed damage. auto attack evaid and spwoop help a lot to survive. if the battle is finished or you swooped out to heal change to longbow and hunt down the fleeing low hp with 2.5k auto attack crit and with 5-9k rapid shot.
beware with barrage! it suck down 2/3 of your hp if the enemy zerg have retail.

i think ranger is maybe the most challenging class in wvw. i have problems only with the barrage and with the diversity of the weapons whats we can use. every weapons except the GS are only good for 1v1. we got a little off hand love but still no good main hand (sword is a pvp weapon)

Axe are prime zerg “ranged” weapon… it hits hard (yes, it really does) and hits 3 targets. GS aint your only option, however, for zergs, it’s the best

ofc not my only option. i can go with sword/dagger but i will die. i used axe for a half year but it have a weakness. you need to select target. to select a good target in a liquid zerg is nearly impossible. i want axe as a melee weapon. a real whirling berzerker thing… awww

Most professions can adapt nearly to any situation with nearly any weapon. in our case in pvp we must use shortsword-shortbow, wvw: LB/GS, dungeon meta same as pvp but with berzerker.
trait lines: except pvp we are forced to spend in power line as much as possible. every good traits are there and others are not too useful. BTW the condi duration in power line is pointless. wvw and pve builds not use use condis and pvp builds spend max 10 points there. pvp build: be tanky as possible! infinity+1 regeneration, toughness, vitality. we are forced much more in the tank role as a bunker guardian.

I think ANet going in the right direction but they need to be a little more aggressive with the rethink of the profession.

when we played with vizu, only 2 border was covered at main time. now after vizu, we have a lot of new players whos not liked the game against vizu. the player base is doubled, but most of them just newbies. the core is one of the bests i think but the others need to learn a lot. i hope 2-3 more weeks without vizu and friends and this new guys become as good as the old boys. After that vizu will fall :>

i think retailation is a very good thing! its just need a little shine. they made us one (and week) skill against larger groups, but we cant use that only one skill, because it kill the caster. yesterday i went down 3 times just because my own barrage. that was 3 of the 5 times when i died yesterday…

i have 3k armor, but that not reduce retail. ok u run a health-healing power build. u will survive, but retail will dammage that 10k+ on you and you deal less damage :p 5-600 to a target.

yup. barrage suck 2/3 of my healt bar. i like, when i defend a tower, shoot barrage on the zerg, somebody hit me once while channeling and i die :p
but thats a good idea if the retal deal dammage based on skill power. less spike dammage builds, more brain!

we dont have the numbers… a lot of casual started play because the matchup. deso still need big, wvw oriented guild in every time zones. once i want to dance in vizu garrison on EB at wendsday night. (without playing transfer fee)
