The most difficult part of this patch was after trying it, knowing I would not be logging into GW2 until the next patch 18/3/14 to watch the epilogue.
Thay have remade a whole map, added tons of events for all sorts of game-play (champ-farmers, World-boss-farmers, the strategics, the casual event doers, the searcher and collector, tons of rewards – where many are really good….) This one is in fact wery well thought about and there is something for everyone!
This patch is in fact very good!!
The patch your talking about Frostfang was Escape from LA, which was awesome a 9/10 patch.
The patch we are talking about is Battle for LA which was bad, very bad, 3/10 patch at the best and very disappointing after 16 months of Living Story to end on this bug ridden sour note with no rewards at of any worth, except for the helmet skin and a new title.
I voted, happy except for some minor issues.
The, ‘minor issue’ is looking at the rewards, if I do not like the mistforge weapon skins looks, then I have no reward to play for.
Mistforged Hero’s Weapon. If I like the skin, will be interested.
Ascended Accessory. Already got. So not interested.
Mini Dolyak. Already got. So not interested.
Gift of Heroes. If I like the skin, will be interested.
Hero’s Weapon. If I like the skin, will be interested.
Ascended Infusion. Already got. So not interested.
Obsidian Shards. Already got. So not interested.
Dragonite Ore. Already got. So not interested.
Empyreal Fragments. Already got. So not interested.
Thimble of Liquid WXP. Already got. So not interested.
I am a long term player, since day 1, so as you can see if the new skins are ugly then I will not bother with Season 2 because there are no rewards for me.

Yes its happened to me in the past and I know exactly what causes it.
Its patches after the Living story update…also the closer they are to reset time the more likely you are to not getting any bonus chests. Basically its wiping any time you have spent in WvW before that patch, so it thinks you do not qualify for bonus chests from playing WvW.
To get around it, you after put some WvW time in just before reset, then you always 100% get your bonus chests.
It never happens in the off week, ie…when there is no living story update, hence no patches to fix bugs.

Anet only want you to obtain ascended weapons/armour via crafting, no other way.
I had 2 ascended armor boxes drop from the champ bags from the assault knights and i didnt have to craft to kill them.
They are exotic, according to a dev blog about them.
They are unique WvW skins, the mistforge bit gives the weapon effects…
Anet only want you to obtain ascended weapons/armour via crafting, no other way.
I got my ascended weapon through WvW rank bonus chests. Someone else in my friends list got it from Tequatl, and a third got theirs in LA while I was standing there using the crafting stations.
I am soooo happy for you all…
I bet you all got the exact stats you were after as well didn’t you?
I also bet you play the lottery every week and win. Well done all of you on your RNG luck.
Us mere mortals are left with crafting only.

I think they make everything soulbound or account bound for 2 reasons:-
1) Due to exploits that will hurt the GW2 economy (basically this means effect sales of gems).
2) To stop some items being effectively worthless. For example, ascended crafting materials, if you could list them on the TP they would probably end up being worth no more than there vendor value.

You need to 2 players on mender killing/aggro duty.
If you do this, stops the healing.
Just (as usual) poorly explained (ie…not explained at all) by Anet.
Like somebody else said, due to awesome randomness anybody can be top 1 ladder board, farming lvls 1 is not very difficult.
HAHAHAHA!!! xD That R1 player got baptized good for sure.
Yep, probably never play sPvP again.
Some players after experiencing that sort of thing never, ever, ever go near it again.
Probably one of the reasons why sPvP population is so low, new blood is put off before they get going/have a chance.
Come back make new friends…
If you loved it then, you will still love it now.
Please don’t delete them!
You can hold on to your extra blade shards, as the team will be adding something later which will allow you to convert the shards to something of value. Dev will be announcing more on that later. Thanks!
Now you tell me…
Already destroyed 1,000’s because I was not interested in the backpiece and thought that’s all they would ever be used for…
How are we to know? I have kept other tokens for over a year before finally destroying them, assuming you have forgotton about that particular token so I may as well destroy them.
How are we to know what tokens to keep, what to destroy?
The only way EVER you will get ascended weapon/armour in GW2 is via crafting.
Suck it up and deal with it.
Anyone not willing to level crafting to 500 and grind the mats…your locked out of ascended PERMENANTLY & FOREVER.
Anet value there economic model over players full stop, they don’t care if you leave, quit playing. You have no power/influence over them at all. Its there way or the highway.
Ascended Accessory rewards, does it mean ALL types of accessories?
Like backpieces, earrings, rings and amulets?
Or are backpieces still not included?
Earrings are accessories.
I know, so are backpieces but you can’t get them via WvW.
Ascended Accessory rewards, does it mean ALL types of accessories?

Or are backpieces still not included?
why would an exotic weapon cost 50% more than an ascended accessory?
Could we get a dev confirmation?
For the unique skin.
Cosmetic skins are how you are rewarded in GW2 and viewed as tier 1 loot.
Of course it will depend on how the majority of GW2 players view the skins appearance. Also remember each weapon type will have a unique WvW mistform forged skin I believe.
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
0 transfer cost is a REAL opportunity for lower tier servers to attract guilds/players if they are pro-active and revitalise there WvW.
I think its new weapon skins unique to WvW.
I don’t think its ascended. You are only allowed to get ascended weapons/armour via crafting/grinding your kitten off, no other way…don’t bother telling me they drop cause I know your lieing…
This reward system is CONSIDERABLY BETTER, than season 1’s rewards because, EACH INDIVIDUAL PLAYER HAS HIS/HER OWN CHOICE FROM A LIST OF POSSIBLE REWARDS. Also we know exactly what the rewards are in advance. I think Anet have solved the rewards problem nicely, hopefully they will adopt this type of reward sytem in other parts of GW2.
Also, lower tier servers have a real chance here to attract guilds to there servers with 0 cost transfers. Remember there are 3 leagues so 3 1st places up for grabs, 3 servers are going to end up with 500 tickets to spend on goodies.
We’ve been discussing this a lot recently and we agree that something needs to change. When we have a change that we are ready to talk about we’ll make sure to make it known to everyone.
This is sad news, I have been involved in massive epic 2-3 hour long fights thanks to the bannering of lords, now those are going to be gone, replaced by a 3-5 minute fight, then move on to another fortification.
Another nail in defending, another skill nerfed.

The 3 knights/generals are bugged and beside those there’s nothing to do in LA when you have completed your achievements (if your interested in bothering), so whats the point? There’s no rewards worth getting whatsoever in 4/3/14 patch.
May as well take a break and not log in until the ‘features/balance’ patch.
Good timing really, since I got another game to play that gives awesome loot, that changes/improves my characters and I am getting loads of fun experimenting with different builds. A world away from where GW2 is atm…
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
So I didn’t really play GW2 for a year now, because there was nothing left to do. I had all the armor I wanted, and Legendary weapon. After some time pvp got boring when there was nothing else than that, so just wondering what’s new? Is there anything else to do now due to new updates?
There’s been loads of good updates but they are in the majority temporary 2 week affairs…so you have missed out.
Probably only worth playing GW2 if you can commit to tuning in every 2 weeks or so, to see if you like/want to play new update.
Otherwise there’s not a lot of new stuff really…
Anet have also turned it into a massive grind fest and all the rewards revolve pretty much 100% around crafting/forging stuff. No good drops 99.99% of the time.
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
How to improve this game?
More quality control! More bug testing!
A dev should after complete all the latest achievements on a random server (not Blackgate) with pugs and he has to do it incognito…he/she should also after do everything it takes (no cheating allowed) to get full ascended gear, including timegating/earning the gold.
Then they will have more of a understanding how GW2 really plays out.
Why are people giving Battle of Lions Arch 9/10? Its a bug ridden mess…
Escape from Lion Arch 9.5/10 awesome but Battle of Lions Arch 2/10 worst update for some time.
Are people getting mixed up with the two or are you all happy Scarlets dead and don’t care about anything else?
Anyone Else Tired of Being a Beta Tester?
Look someone’s got to test it for China/Asia and that someone’s us…
We are finished in the West…America/Europe we are yesterday…Asia is tomorrow, got to get used to it man…
This is the first release that has been in my opinion bad. That they can’t seem to find their footing on this one is frustrating true. I am sure that they will go over this to find out why.
They thought it was a ‘great’ idea to let the interns do the season 1 living story finale, well all the senior staff, made sure China/Asia release goes well…
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
AFAIK
18/3/14 maintenance patch/wrapping up of living story season 1, nothing big/spectacular, PvP glory removed from game.
28/3/14 season 2 of WvW starts.
Features patch unknown, could be end of March or April. Mainly class trait/skill nerfs, revamping runes (interesting) and rebalancing sigils (more nerfs), allowing 2 sigils to be put in 2 handers (nice). PvP possible new game mode other than conquest (actually excited by this) and a replacement for glory/PvP rewards revamp(interesting, chances are it will be mega grindy).
ESO isn’t any where near as good as GW2…but it is new and shiney, full of new content…loads of players I know are buying it and playing it to death for a month at least.
However, I suspect 60%+ will then not subscribe. Around 20-30% will subscribe for 3-6 months before quiting and 5-10% of players will subscribe long term.
If your happy to pay $60+ to rent a game for a month then go for it…
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
Polished Content?
Unpolished, untested, bug ridden, disappointing, a let down, utter rubbish 4 patch fixes later…
Anet sure have ‘learned’ a lot in 16 months of living story…
Really bad update especially with loads of brand new shiney games releasing about now/in the next month or so…
Its such a shame when the first 3 updates in 2014 where so good/fantastic. The ‘Escape from Lions Arch’ was awesome.

Is the hard cap 150?
I am sure I read some where it was 500?
I heard numbers from 100 to 120, sometimes 150. Never 500.
If the hardcap is 120, it’s not really a problem with minor headcount fluctuations. Even more so with 100.
Pretty sure when EOTM was released they said 500 maxium players. First time I have ever heard a hard number being put on players in a map.
Not heard any specific numbers for LA, but it often looks to me like there’s more than 150+ on the map. Usually have about 10 afking around the 3 waypoints, so 30 there, zergs easily have 100+, loads still collecting heirlooms, loads of 5 player partys running around doing there own thing. You easily get to 200+ on the LA maps I have been in. Hell, last night there were 20+ commander tags on the map I was in…

Those 3 knights which were completely bug ridded on release have really spoiled this finale of the living story…such a shame because the previous update was great…
Atm if a blue knight is killed but the other 2 aren’t then only the players involved in killing the blue knight get any loot…the players at the other knights get zip, nothing, oh wait they get a nice repair bill…
Is this how its mean’t to work now?

What if people just split up? There’s a hardcap of 150 people on the zone, so everyone would get loot in an idea split.
Is the hard cap 150?
I am sure I read some where it was 500?
Can anyone really see through the clutter?
No.
I just hit dodge every few secs and spam skills that add to the on screen clutter and pray to the gods of Tyria for good luck…seems to work 99.99% of the time…
What happened to party play?
5 party group play has been abandoned sometime ago in favour of zerg/guild/massive 100+ player group content.
Didn’t you get the memo?
I after say I agree with the OP…
The devs have taken GW2 down the road of 90% of in game rewards revolve around crafting, either via the crafting professions or by using the mystic forge.
Getting rewards any other way, like by actually playing the content involves MASSIVE RNG LUCK, the usual reward for playing is crafting materials in one form or another.
So if you hate crafting and think its the most boring waste of time EVER, there’s nowhere for you to go reward wise.
Uh?
Scarlet, who, what?
Never heard of anyone called Scarlet…who’s that again?

Twice trolled by Anet on rewards:-
End of season 1 WvW reward chest (7 weeks/100’s of gold spent) :- TRASH
End of season 1 LS reward chest (16months time/effort) :- TRASH
Its definitely bugged giving no loot…
Everyone in game is saying it.
In fact for a ‘finale’, final episode in a Living Story that’s been going on 16 months, the loot overall in this 4/3/14 update is EPIC in its CRAPNESS, even by Anet standards which is very, very low.
Well, I don’t mind, loads of other new games to play now giving fantastic loot. I will just do the basic achievements and not log in for 2 weeks or so. Only ‘feedback’ Anet listens to, players not logging in….

I have had 8×80′s for ages now, 1 of each class.
Been playing on and off since day 1.
However, I long since got to a stage where there’s absolutely nothing in game for me to do/want to do and there’s no rewards for me to aim for.
Its a bit sad really as I like GW2 a lot but I am better off largely playing other games until a ‘proper’ expansion comes along.
6/10
I can describe my attitude to the living story in one word, ‘indifferent’.
Don’t get me wrong parts of it are great like 9/10 but other parts are, ‘I am not doing that, I will not log in for 2 weeks because that’s rubbish’ and the majority is merely average.

Tyrias Quaggans = Earths Pandas
They are both utterly useless and should be extinct but because they are so cute they will never be allowed to die…
On that same note, I’m a little confused as to why they did those freebie sales with this 31 days of sales coming up. They gave out a free crafting booster last week and here they are trying to sell them at a discount today even though everyone just got a free one. I’ve stopped trying to figure out their logic regarding the gem store, or anything else they do for that matter.
Never assume any joined up thinking from any company ever…
They are bunch of independent humans that often do not communicate properly with each another, so do strange things but from there point of view (ie…there own little world make great sense…).
Thanks for this thread! Hope you keep it going till end of the month.
I bought 3 collection expanders on day 1, so I have 1,000 collectables now.
However, its left me skint, so I am hoping nothing else goes on sale that I want…
Btw has everyone noticed, every now and again they give away freebies for 0 gems? I suppose its there to keep you checking out the gemstore promotions tab. Perhaps, mention any freebies that come up?
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
Frankly I wouldn’t worry about the impact of ESO until that game is actually played by a large population in real life setting for a while. All games seem good/full of potential when it is in beta stage. The problems only begin to show up when it is played extensively by a lot of people.
But i do agree ANET need to some big changes to the regular WvW (not EoTM) to give players incentive to play. Things get old without too much changes.
^Agree with this…
A lot of people will buy ESO at release, I would be amazed if it did not sell 3 million+ at release, however the view I get on those buyers are:-
Around 60-70% are going to buy it, play the hell out of it for 1 month and then leave without subscribing. So just a one off purchase really for a months game time, possibly come back to it if in future ever comes free to play.
20-25% will subscribe for 3-6 months, exhaust the game then leave.
5-10% may subscribe long term.
So ESO’s version of WvW may not effect WvW in GW2 much beyond the 1st month really…
What’s She drilling?!??
For oil of course…black gold…the Asura need it for there new mech army…
She’s looking for Satan.
To be his bride, thus Scarlet will be Mrs Satan…
Is ele really that terrible…?
For 90% of players who are not skilful piano players or have not spent $$$ on a fancy keyboard…yes
For the 10% who bought a fancy keyboard or are excellent piano players…no, they are completely OP
So you just have to stay online? No? So you just have to massslay enemies? Also no? Sadly this won’t work :/
It works on drops, so afk’ing gets you nothing…you after be doing something active that results in drops.
Don’t get the massslay enemies…if you slay aload of enemies then you have your normal drop chance, you can be lucky/unlucky. Just if your unlucky 10 hours+, chance starts to favour you.
Another new game releasing soon ( I will not mention which) is introducing a system to REDUCE BAD LUCK FROM RNG, a BIG, CONSTANT COMPLAINT from players.
The details so far are :-
They want a player to get a good drop every 2 hours on average. So if any player goes 10 hours without a good drop RNG starts to change increasingly in there favour, until the drop occurs and they get back on a 2 hour average.
Would this work in GW2?
Its the 1st time I personally have seen any developers trying to counter bad luck with RNG in any game. So far all the developers effort in any game involving RNG has been to restrict good luck and to stop them getting rewards too quickly. Which often leads to players becoming disenchanted with the game because nothing good ever drops for them.
I bought GW2 on release, grinded to 80, and tried out the endgame. And while the levelling was fun, the game featured no endgame PvE, exotic gear that you have to grind for hours for tiny stat boosts, and a completely broken dungeon system. The PvP itself was so unbalanced as to not be any fun, along with no gear to be earned in structured PvP whatsoever. Have they added ANYTHING worth hitting level 80 in the year and a half?
From what you said in your post, I think your still not going to like GW2.
PvE is still the same as when you left, with the exception of 2 100+ player very hard boss encounters and new living story content every 2 weeks.
Exotics are not a grind at all ,but if you think they were, your head will explode when you find out about ascended gear…
sPvP is exactly the same as when you left but they are bringing changes soon apparently…
I think once the China/Asia release has been done and dusted, then they will start working on a proper B2P expansion.
Until then, anything new will come in Living Story.
Plenty of reasons to play this update after achievements:-
1) Ascended Backpiece (if not for stats, looks, also different colours available)
2) Selfless potion.
3) Thoughtless Potion.
4) Rescuing 1200 npc’s gives you ultimate reward bag, which has a small chance of getting previous LS items, receipes.
5) A very small chance at getting high value drops like endless quaggan tonic.
We did it this morning on SFR or overflow, got to 1200 citizens rescued.
Got a Recipe worth a couple of gold…
We had to have a right ding dong in map chat to convince the zergers to stop with there zerging. We really should not after shame other players in map chat to achieve a objective.
