Wildstar failed hard because they lead everyone to believe it was aimed at the hardcore gamer and so all the casuals thought okay we won’t buy/bother with your game. Big mistake…

Also 2 other negative points were:-

Release date of June, probably the worst time of the year to release a new game in NA/EU.

Released shortly after ESO, which burned a lot of MMO players, so they were probably put off. A games developer once told me competition from other good games in your genre is good for everyone as players will buy several games of the same type. But if a turkey gets released it puts players off buying any other games in the same genre. Obviously the genre we are talking here is MMO’s.

Yes they need to improve/give a reason to defend but they after make it rewarding to do so. If they make it just take longer, then they just effectively reduce the rewards.

Defending can be potently very, very rewarding as well as awesome fun.

During a tournament once I took part in defending our home keep through the night, both the other servers hated our server so were pretty much only attacking us. Around a 100 of server a (not sawing names to avoid thread degeneration) attacked, once we beat them, a 100 of server b attacked and so on through the night.

It was a desperate battle of defense on our part, we held out for 5-6 hours before they finally took the keep which by that time literally had no walls, you could walk through the keep! Reward wise for the defenders it was pretty awesome, you could tag for loot 20-50 enemies per incoming attack wave and we had to set up a rotation so 5 players could empty there bags at a time, so we always had enough defenders.

I have played GW2 since day 1 and have been lucky enough to be involved in a few of those kind of epic battles. But they are ultra rare nowadays. Sadly…

They should have a 3rd way of getting ascended equipment in GW2.

I hate crafting in GW2 and don’t bother with it at all really, because its just click 10,000 times, end up with 1 item (possible exaggeration).

So that leaves me with RNG which is currently not a viable way of getting full ascended equipment. I tried with WvW chests, fractals and PvP, got a ascended greatsword which was great (WvW chest) but the other ascended drops were all rings, lots of utterly useless ascended rings!

I also play Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls and Path of Exile, the crafting is more simplified in those game but far, far more enjoyable, crafted 10,000’s of items in those games.

GW2 crafting is too cumbersome/clunky and uses far too many materials.

I have a answer!

Why the lack of precursors?

Answer, Skrit, yea you thought they were fairly useless thieves but in actual fact they are top secret employees of there boss who goes by the name of “Mr Smith” who likes to portray himself as defender of the economy but is actually a evil treasure hoarder…

So how do the Skrit do it? Its simple they have 3 superpowers:-

1) Sense impending precursor drop.
2) Speed of ‘THE FLASH’.
3) 100% pickpocketing.

Every player in the game has had 100’s of precursors drop but wham, bam, thankyou mam, they are in your backpack and before you have a chance to click on the item your precursor is replaced with a GREEN.

I think Anet are missing a trick by not having hang gliding in WvW.

They could have just added it to the new WvW map only.

It would have added a whole new level of strategy/tactics to WvW, with offensive/defensive airforces needed.

Also, we could have posted youtube/twitch videos showing groups of players flying in formation to take keeps etc with obviously wings of the valkirye music playing. Or with music from queen, recreating the scene from Flash Gordon the movie, where the hawkmen are gathered to descend on Ming the Merciless palace.

Really, Anet have some imagination…

Doing something like that would have hordes of players returning to WvW.

"Challenging" content in open world concern

The getting there 2 hours before a open world event and then shuttling in your guild mates in just so you have a chance at hard content is no fun either.

Before GW2, I have never encountered a game that made me (the paying customer) wait around for 2 hours+ just to play some specific content. Can you imagine if shops said that, sorry you after wait 2 hours to buy that tv.

Stupid.

Content should revolve around the players and they should be able to trigger it whenever they want. Its okay with me if you after complete certain steps/events to trigger it but those should take no more than 20 mins or so.

Today everyone works different times. So games should revolve around people, not people revolving around the game.

Err. Isnt that kind of defeating the purpose of hte whole (living world) and (dynamic event system) theme they have built the ENTIRE GAME on?

Not really, the only 2 events I was referring to was 3 headed wurm (mainly) and Tequatl (but that’s a lot easier). Everything else is okay and you can just turn up at the appropriate time, no waiting if you want to complete it.

This new harder content in the expansion, may be like 3 headed wurm but 10 times harder. So as its open world you (or some of your guild mates) will after get there a few hours early, to ferry in all the players you can rely on, in order to have a chance to complete it.

Is GW2 going to get trashed like CoH?

Meglobob.8620

Is GW2 going to get trashed like CoH?

No (short answer)

NCSoft likes GW2 its a good money earner for them and probably there most successful MMO in US/Eu where in the past they have had trouble in those markets. In a recent round of cutbacks across there large family of NCSoft MMO’s GW2 was protected from any cuts because its successful.

However, I noted that Guild Wars is still running.. no content updates (as far as I know) but it’s not been shut down.

Its had exactly 40 content updates in 3 years since launch…

A expansion has just been announced GW2:Heart of Thorns and the chances are after that is released there will be many more ‘free’ content updates. So a good time to buy GW2 and get into the game, especially if its still 75% off (celebrating expansion announcement).

Let's Talk About: Specializations

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Meglobob.8620

Meglobob.8620

“I spoke with Colin at the after party. Only one specialty per class at this time. It works very much like a secondary profession where you can mix and match your skills. It can also be modified any time you are out of combat. Unclear if each class is only getting one new weapon but from the ranger speciality it appears at least that the new weapons come from the new specialties.

Also, jumping into the specialty gives you new trait options however it also restricts what traits you can use. Exactly what/how wasn’t specified.
Only combos he would confirm was ranger and necro weapons already shown. Though he hinted at looking closely at the trailer for others.
Last thing before bed, no polearms. The art team had a lot of fun making look a likes but no pole arms in gw2.".

This is interesting…

So if I take a specialization for my Ranger which we know is Druid, can I swap between Ranger (as it is now) and Druid when I am outside of combat. Or once I take the specialization of Druid, will I then be a Druid forever? Which means I would after level to 80 another Ranger, just to play the traditional Ranger?

I hope you can change back and forth (when out of combat) at will. Not sure I fancy buying another 9 character slots to have all professions. Although it would give me something to do in GW2, as of now I have nothing at all I wish to do in GW2.

Your opinions on HOT and balance?

in PvP

Posted by: Meglobob.8620

Meglobob.8620

Here is EXACTLY what specialization means (from limited info so far):-

Each class (so all 9 classes) will have a specialization.

A specialization will give that class a new specific weapon (pre-chosen by Anet not you), so example Ranger is getting a staff (5 new weapon skills).

You also get a new class title so Ranger becomes Druid or RangerDruid.

You get 1 new healing skill.

You get 1 new elite skill.

You get new utility skills (no one knows how many).

AFAIK that’s it, so far.

I don’t think it will make any difference at all to balance, since my personal opinion is Anet have not balanced the game in the 3 years they have tinkered with it so far. Just destroyed certain builds with nerfs and promoted others with tiny buffs, with absolutely no plan or reasoning to it.

Just my personal opinion.

Meglobob.8620

Yeah but challenging group content can easily mean another Tequatl ..

That’s exactly what they mean but more like 3 headed wurm but 10 times as hard as that and need more players to do it/more co-ordination and everyone to have some of the new masteries before you can even begin to think of success.

Its basically for hard core guilds/elitists to have a competition over who can be 1st in the world to complete it once GW2:Heart of Thorns is released. It took nearly a week for the 1st guild to complete the 3 headed wurm? So if it takes them longer than a week, perhaps upto a month before the 1st guild does it, Arenanet will be happy.

If your a casual, normal player thou forget it even exists…save yourself loads of time.

I hope its not Mord (the new dragon) himself thou that’s going to be that hard to kill, cause everyone would like to kill him at some point, unless your a salad/Sylvia minion of course!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meglobob.8620

Meglobob.8620

I am not surprised by no new race, I was surprised by a lot of posts wanting one thou..

In developer man hours adding a new race to the game is probably equal to if not more work than a new class. Mainly in redoing all the armour sets in the game (there are a lot…) for the new race model and creating a new personal story for that race.

In player game time without doing the personal story, a player will have got over the new look/graphics within a hour or so (especially as every player in game will be of the new race) and perhaps a couple of more hours playing wardrobe with the new race and that’s it. Even playing through your entire personal story, you would be finished in a day or so.

Where a new character class gives 100’s of hours of gameplay.

Its a no brainer from Anets point of view.

I clocked up nearly 2,000 hrs from playing the base game and if the expansion gives me 500+ I will be happy.

Also, bear in mind the base GW2 got 40, that’s 40, I think its worth repeating for a 3rd time ‘40’ completely free updates. GW2:Heart of Thorns will no doubt get plenty of ‘free’ updates, perhaps not 40 but certainly 20+…just something to bear in mind when considering buying it.

Yes.

I have nearly 2000 hrs logged up playing GW2, so chances are I will buy it, as you get a lot of ‘play time’ for your money.

So far I am pretty positive about the new content announcements, hand gliding around Tyria probably excites me the most…

Obviously, the devil is in the details thou and I do have some early concerns:-

1) The new region, apparently ‘vertical’ was used to describe it and its got 3 tiers a canopy level, a ground and a tree level. Now hand gliding around the canopy level sounds great and awesome to me. However, I am concerned the new region will largely be a massive jumping puzzle or series of jumping puzzles. Is this the case/true. I HATE were getting from a to b to c is much harder to do than the dynamic events themselves.

2) The new WvW map, it mentions ‘blowing other players off high places to fall to there certain deaths’, I hope this is not the case, certain players will troll other players 24/7 if they can do that. Spoiling all the other activities on the map.

3) Another way besides RNG to get precursors sounds great but Anet are well known for grindy, repetive, near impossible to achieve stuff. So how much ‘grind’ to get a precursor? It would not surprise me if farming gold was still a faster, more certain way to get a precursor. Also, will bran new players after get 100% map exploration on the new expansion areas to be able to craft a legendary?

Hopefully someone else can release a timeline but I have been playing from day 1, here’s my impression:-

Day 1 : GW2 is released and its AWESOME, everyone agrees, players, reviews, everyone…wow we may have a hit here….

Day 2 – 59’ish : Anet temp/perma ban 1,000’s of players for various things but largely exploits that could ruin there economy.

Day 60’ish : First (or 2nd I forget live event) the Karka invasion anyway. The plan all GW2 players log in at the same time (!!!) to fight the evil Karka. Guess what happens? Yep everyone disconnects/massive lag, utter disaster really…lots of goodwill lost.

Day 61+ish : New tier of equipment released, (Ascended) players outraged, more goodwill lost.

Day 120’ish-present day : New content delivered via Living Story updates (loads of them really), some good, some utter garbage. Players love or hate them. Loads of temporary content means GW2 changes very little compared to other MMO’s and nothing new to do for returning players. Really we the players are just henchmen for Anet’s fav. characters.

Its funny reading this thread, essentially what’s being said is there are several summon builds for different classes but they are all useless/rubbish for playing GW2!

So that’s dozen’s of skills on different character classes, that 3 years later and countless balance patches are still no good in a lot of players eyes.

What have the balance team been doing in those 3 years?

Relevant to your interests: Upcoming Balance Changes

I love it how everyone makes an opinion, writes it here, and after changes come they start raging on forums because the balance is not right in their personal opinion.
I think customers should start acting like customers and just enjoy the game as is.

We try to but then they nerf our favourite character class, or weapon or skill/trait in the name of ‘balance’.

Yet there are dozens, probably over a 100 traits. utility skills, healing skills, elite skills across the entire 8 classes that are ‘rubbish’ and hardly any player uses them because they are so useless. So how can they be ‘balancing’ the game when they never, ever in 3 years try to make those abilities viable by buffing them? Buffing those abilities will not upset balance at all but it may increase the number of useable builds by a lot.

Do they have metrics on all traits, healing/utility/elite skills in the game which show them the most/least popular ones? If they do use them to help balance the game in that positive way.

I can't come back to this game..

The OP as summed up GW2 problem really thou…essentially once you reach 80th lvl and unlocked everything on your character that’s a end to any character development.

After that, there is nothing you can do to make your character more powerful, no character development at all. Essentially game over, once you have all 8 classes to lvl 80 with everything unlocked.

Why is entire game being balanced around sPvP

Esports….you got to admire Anet’s determination if nothing else! Is there hope in China?

Shame they are happy to annoy there PvE & WvW players with that ‘spvp balance’ rubbish thou. Its why we have so few elite/utility/healing skills and so poor/limited choice with traits. To keep it as simple as possible so Esports can be as balanced as possible.
