I like to treasure hunt!
good thing you can’t talk to the enemy in WvW.
“/allies Everyone! cover your ears!”
“/enemies [ITEM]”
“/allies ok, let’s go capture everything”
I was thinking the same thing!
Agreed. Very frustrating.
Here is the bug thread for this issue.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Chat-suppressed
I have wondered this many times. Especially when opening Zhaitaffy.
Doesn’t Zhaitaffy make you hurl if you eat too much? That could very well be quite funny.
Indeed it does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2aeYFAyXVk
An “open all” or “consume all” option would be good for opening all the Halloween bags and candy corn.
Oh and the jewelry boxes in orr. I buy a ton of those and my poor little finger gets tired of opening them. Then once they are open, there is all that karma to click through.
HOWEVER, I would be happy to compromise, if said skins that have to be purchased are added to the skin locker in the achievement window and unlocked for all my characters. In fact, I’d be willing to buy more of them if such were the case.
This. That is exactly what keeps me from purchasing skins in the gem store. Please make the skins reusable.
I’ve been experiencing this too, but it has been going on for a few weeks. A game restart fixes the issue for me.
If you are above lvl 20, do you get any benefits from it? (like 20 skill points or something)
I used one of these today and was given the skill and trait points equivalent to manually leveling to 20. All, except elite, skill slots were opened.
I don’t think this is a bug. Simply anet doesn’t have the tech to refresh the prices in real time in your TP window, so every time the prices stray off from the values you see in the window you need to reopen it, sometimes this happens so quickly that you cannot sell anything at all. :-) A refresh button would be a great & simple fix for it..
I thought about that too, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. This has been going on for a long time. Some of the crafting items I sell regularly will stay the same price for days, but I will still get errors when trying to sell.
These are fantastic ideas. I especially would love the ability to customize the pets with colors, leashes, skins, etc…
The pet aspect of GW2 just feels like it’s lacking. Anyone remember the gw1 menagerie? I’ve said many times that I’m very happy with GW2 and I don’t miss GW1. But I must admit that I miss the menagerie aspect of the game. One of the first things I did in GW2 was collect all the pets.
I would love a menagerie of some sort, and the ability to breed. One would have to collect male and female animals in the world, and breed them. It would be nice if the animals, let’s take Lynx just for an example, came in different color variations in the wild. Players could breed for specific traits (both cosmetic and stats). We could even get into cross breeding to create new species only available by breeding! If we wanted to get fancy, the babies could be sold between players.
I also like the idea of having to raise and train the babies. A leveling up system of sorts. You could teach them new tricks and commands for combat! (I see a master trainer achievement here )
And I’m probably in the minority on this one, but I would like to see it where other professions could use pets too. Not full time like the ranger, but more of a summon with a cooldown. Anet could even make this skill available for gems only ($$$). This mechanism is already built in for every character in the game (see summon mistfire wolf: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Summon_Mistfire_Wolf). This way ANY profession can purchase a unique pet (from a ranger of course :P ) and be able to summon it for a short period of time.
I have so many in-depth ideas about how this all would work, but am trying to keep it lite so I don’t have a wall of text that is tl;dr.

I don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but that gear isn’t new. It’s light karma gear.

Tip #1 – dont buy gems with real money.
I’m going to disagree with this point.
1) After initial purchase, the game is free to play. Meaning that there is no monthly fee. Many players have not spent a dime on this game after the initial purchase, but have played hundreds of hours. Just to be clear, I am 100% OK with this.
But how does a company survive offering free to play? By selling items individually. The players that purchase gems with IRL money keep the game free for everyone else.
It’s a very simple concept. Business must make profit to continue to operate. If they game were not continuing to make money, they could not pay their employees. Then there would be no game.
Though I’ve done this multiple times, exchanging gold for gems will not pay the Arenanet bills.
2) I have no problems spending money on Gem cards. After all the bills are paid, and our child is fed and clothed, we have an entertainment budget. Most people would probably spend this on a babysitter, going to a concert, going out to eat, date night, movie theater, etc… Occasionally we buy Gem cards.
My husband and I play GW2 together almost daily. We did gem cards for our anniversary gift. Yeah, we’re “that” couple. My daughter will probably get one in her stocking.
Now to the OP. I agree with the majority here. Don’t rush to spend them; they don’t expire.
I personally wouldn’t spend them on the RNG (random numbers generator) items like black lion keys and dye packs, but I’m not a gambler. I have friends that love to gamble, and this type of thing would just thrill them to death. So if it tickles your fancy, go right ahead.
I wouldn’t personally buy a makeover kit, but my hubby did and he’s thrilled to death with his purchase. I have purchased inventory expansion, bank expansion, and character slots and have not regretted it once. I think I’d like to get one of the unlimited harvesting tools too!
What it boils down to is, what makes you happy? Spend your gems on that.

that’s basically what Nina said. And questioned “why”.“Why is the sky blue?”
-> “I believe the sky is blue.”
Sorry I misread the OP. (blush)
I have wondered this many times. Especially when opening Zhaitaffy.
I believe swiftness only counts for walking/running forward.
Agree more would be nice. We could even have to pay to unlock the Set 2 emblems with merits and influence.
I would love to see more options for guild emblems. Maybe even unlock them through special guild events. These could even be tied to the living story.
Oh noes! You bought a free to play game and didn’t get “enough” free things? Poor guy.
I chuckled.
Ashamed to say it, but me too. :P
If you are ever in Devana’s Reach (North America) feel free to hit me up. I have no problem helping players level.
Same. Devana’s Rester server. I was in Lion’s Arch.
I don’t know if this matters, but I purchased 2 key pieces from the TP to make the key. Another player asked in map chat if the achievement was broken, so I purchased 2 pieces to make a key and test the bug. Maybe all the pieces need to be found and not purchased?
Nah, I built one of found parts and one of bought parts. Same result.
Cool. Thanks for verifying. Sometimes bugs work in weird ways like that.
Here is the wiki on movement.

And swiftness
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Swiftness
If you take away speed boons, are all classes and races the same as far as walking/running speed? I find that I am always slower then most people. Maybe it’s the gear?
Yes. Every character had the same base running speed.
Same. Devana’s Rester server. I was in Lion’s Arch.

Hi there. What server are you on?
Is it the birthday gift?
Here’s a great little searchable database that lets you look up food items by level and buffs. Has drop down lists for the searches, just pick the buffs you want and it will give you a list of foods that have it.

That’s a great tool. Thanks for sharing!!!
I’m frugal so I went with exotic karma armor for my warrior, and spent gold for the superior runes that I wanted. Then used laurels for my accessories. This put less of a dent in my gold so I still had some to buy weapons and sigils.
Here are some references so you can decide what set you want.

I suggest rewarding good behavior in addition to punishing bad…that was at least he “good” people will benefit and the “bad” people will have something to strive for. For example: I would love the ability to have an image in my signature and this might be a way to implement that. Just a random thought.
This. I used to manage forums for a game company. When I came on board the trolling and negativity was out of control. Some users were pure trolls, while others were just following the bad behavior of others. I implemented a system where staff would basically give points to every post that was constructive and helpful. It could be anything from feedback to suggestion, answering a player helping player with a thorough answer, or posting a guide or walk through. Even negative feedback could get positive points from staff as long as it was well thought out, respectful, and constructive.
When someone posted something constructive a staff member would comment in the thread praising the post (public praise). Once users acquired a certain amount of points, we would put a star in their signature.
On the flip side, the nonconstructive posts violating the rules would be removed, and the user would get negative points and a personal message explaining exactly why the post was removed. Temporary bans were implemented for repeat offenders.
It took a while, but after a few months the trolls moved on and the forums were a much happier place.
After I left the company, they went to a social media linked style forum where instead of a user name, your real name and picture were next to every post. Needless to say a wonderful community tanked very quickly and never rebuilt after that. Even the good constructive user wouldn’t use the system.
Hmmm This got moved to game bugs. Unsure is this is a true bug or just poor design. :/
1) Because it’s rude
2) Because this isn’t another MMO
3) Because there are players who engage in WvW or SPvP who follow the old school norms of saying GG (good game)
4) Because GW2 does not have street cleaners and all the characters walk everywhere on foot
5) Because there are no spittoons for sale on either the TP or the gem store
6) Because there is no chewing tobacco
7) Because there aren’t any dentists in game telling you to rinse
8) Because there aren’t any straws to blow spitballs with
9) Because Queen Jennah walks barefoot
10) Because Charrs don’t want to get wet
Add yours here.
HAHAHAHAHA thanks for the morning giggle.
I agree with the majority here. There is no need for a spit emote.
Looks like Anet needs to look at the mechanics of chat suppression. (hint hint)
Looks like you were linking WPs which will get suppressed pretty quick from my experience.
Funny thing is, what was repressed wasn’t WPs.
My messages were suppressed today while running the FG champ train. I wasn’t spamming chat. The messages were spaced a good bit apart, time wise. I wasn’t saying the same thing over and over, just giving location of where the train was, and where we were gong next for the players that weren’t familiar with the route.
Anyone else run into this?
Also a good site: http://www.gw2armor.com/
Map completion, events, and story line give great XP. What I do is go to the starting areas outside of each city and work on map completion. Stop for any event and also to harvest. When you reach the level for your next story like, stop and go complete that. Then go back to map completion.
EAT FOOD! You can buy consumables from the trading post for very little (1-4 copper each) and they give XP bonuses. You can have a food and a utility both active at the same time. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Nourishment
Crafting. As much as I hate doing it, it’s a great way to level. If you have a crafting booster (I think you can get them from story completion and black lion chests, someone please correct me here) and full stacks of crafting mats, you can level up pretty quickly. Make sure you have plenty of materials before you pop your booster.
When you finish your personal story (Arah) you get a booster bag that has all kinds of boosters in it, as well as a scroll that jumps another character 20 levels. You may want to pick one toon and complete the story line, get the goodies, then power level your next toon. Just an option.
I vote the poor unplayed ranger in the corner.
Seriously: You do know you can sell the ascended inscription (or ascended dowel and exotic inscription) on the TP? Perhaps you can recuperate financially from your slip?
I vote the ranger too. Axe/warhorn with longbow is awesome on a ranger.
Sorry, but you really should search before posting, as this topic has been covered TO DEATH already.
The search fx is broken.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/forum/Search-feature-not-working/first
If the OP wasn’t aware of this, then they wouldn’t have used the google trick, or read through 756892364 threads to find related topics.
A nicer way to say it would have been, “Hey here are some other threads on the topic that you might be interested in,” instead of immediately attacking the OP.
Maybe these guys in Lion’s Arch?
I’m a woman and I love this game. My husband and one of my best friends (also a woman) plays with me.
As far as story lines go, I teared up when I lost my companion (Tybalt) at Claw Island. Then again when I had to break the news to an Asuran lady that she was now a widow because of a mission I was leading. My girl friend that plays is really into the lore.
My opionion As far as creating a character goes, I think Asura is the easiest to play if she likes world completion (vistas etc…) and jumping puzzles (sssoooo much fun ). Norn and Human are best if she likes to play dress up (which I love to do).
Profession wise, I normally recommend Ranger as a first profession for brand new players. It’s fun to find and collect all the pets, it’s very easy to play as a profession, and allows players to get their feet wet with the game. However, since your wife has some experience with gaming and she has a particular play style, she may like the Guardian. My husband has a Guard build that is very tanky (as in it can take a lot of hits) and does a lot of support like giving boons, healing, & takes away conditions from near by players. If she is interested, I would have to ask him the exact build he has going on.
There is so much to do in this game, I can’t imagine her not being able to find something enjoyable. The problem my husband and I have playing together is that we like doing different things. He likes to do boss runs (dragons, etc…) and dungeons, and I like jumping puzzles, achievements, and WvW.
My Asura’s greatsword looks like a dagger
People can be jerks no matter what, even if you are trying to “play nice”. I logged into Queensdale with my low level toon to do daily events. I saw the troll stone was up, so I shouted to the map “troll stone is up, where is the champ train at?”
If it was close, I was just going to sit and wait for them to get there. If they weren’t I was going to join them on the rotation. Instead I get the reply of “Don’t [explicit] touch it. You don’t need to know where the train is.”
There was more nastiness said, but all with the same basic attitude. Friendly? No. Respectable? No.
No wonder Devana’s Rest can’t kill Tequatal and sucks at WvW. The server, in general, has a serious attitude problem.
Disclaimer I have met some very nice helpful folks on DR. They are not all bad apples.
Necro: Torch for demon summoning. Maybe one of the skills would let necromancers summon a fleshreaver.
This would be awesome!!
I think the Ranger should have a trident.
Stock up on crafting mats and use a crafting booster! You’ll get it in no time.
Hi there. Welcome to the game!
I’ve played every race and profession. You picked (in my opinion) the hardest profession to start. All the above posters have very good advice. All are great tips for an elm.
However, I’m going to give you some advice that I’ll probably get some backlash for.
You have 5 character slots. Don’t delete your elementalist, just put it on hold and create an easier character to play until you get comfortable with the game and learn all there is to know. Like how to make money, craft, sell things, salvage things, map completion, vistas, weapons, armor, sigils, runes, skills, traits, jumping puzzles (my personal fave), hearts, story lines, living story, dungeons, WvW, champs, the list goes on and on…….
My recommendation for a new player’s first toon is an Asura Ranger. Asura because they are small, nimble, and have the easiest feel for jumping puzzles and vistas. Ranger because the pets really help you out and can keep the damage off of you, allowing you to die less. Also, it’s fun to find and collect the little critters. :P I like longbow and axe/warhorn.
The above combo will let you get your feet wet in the game without being too overwhelmed. Once you are comfortable playing and have made some gold, switch back to your elementalist and have fun leveling up.
Have fun!!!
I’ll share one of my random moments with you.
But to be fair, I started this.
HAHAHA someone was a Game of Thrones fan.
Is the standard double-click that is in ur mouse settings considered 1 action, following the 1-button press = 1-action rule?
Thanks. (I tried searching, but that searcher is seriously messed up)
I don’t have an answer to your question, but I can help with the search issue.
Broken forum search is a Known Issue. Here is the main thread.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/forum/Search-feature-not-working/first
Here is a workaround:
Go to Google. Type:
site:forum-en.guildwars2.com [insert search term]
This tells google to search these forums only for whatever you are looking for.
Ranger:
Rifle. At the moment we all know (if you don’t you should be ashamed) that Engi’s play with rifles like a shotgun so that’s short to mid range. Warrior seems to have a slow shooting rifle with mid to long range. What I envision for the ranger with access to the rifle would be the equivalent of a sniper. That’s right, very long range with accurate high damage, bring on the pain baby! Rangers are and should be the long range specialist class so to me this is the obvious choice for them to be the sniper-ish class.
Yes! I’ve always wondered why Rangers can’t use rifles. When I started my first toon, a ranger, I envisioned her as pretty much being a ninja sniper with a herd of animals at command. Sneaking around, picking enemies off before they knew what hit them. Of course, I had to change that vision as I actually started playing the game. 0.o
Let’s make it happen! Perhaps another one of the rifle skills could be to have our pet stealth us camo style through their stripes. You inspired that idea lol.
OMG YES!!!!!! Times a million.
