Ranger:
Rifle. At the moment we all know (if you don’t you should be ashamed) that Engi’s play with rifles like a shotgun so that’s short to mid range. Warrior seems to have a slow shooting rifle with mid to long range. What I envision for the ranger with access to the rifle would be the equivalent of a sniper. That’s right, very long range with accurate high damage, bring on the pain baby! Rangers are and should be the long range specialist class so to me this is the obvious choice for them to be the sniper-ish class.
Yes! I’ve always wondered why Rangers can’t use rifles. When I started my first toon, a ranger, I envisioned her as pretty much being a ninja sniper with a herd of animals at command. Sneaking around, picking enemies off before they knew what hit them. Of course, I had to change that vision as I actually started playing the game. 0.o
Congrats! (15 char.)
I have the shortest Asura and the tallest Norn. I love my little Asura, especially in jumping puzzles. It’s much easier to see the next jump in tight places. My Norn’s head will sometimes go through the roof, or block my line of sight.
That being said, I love to dress up my Norn and give her cool weapons, but my Asura is my favorite to play. I would love to outfit my Asura, but it’s just too expensive considering I can barely see it.
I would love to see Asura weapons scaled up a bit. My great sword look like a dagger. 0.o
I think kitten is a great substitute. Yes, it makes statements seem childish, but when people start using foul language instead of forming constructive thoughts, it makes them look childish. Kitten just dives that point home.
The thing is, my experience isn’t with Guild Wars 1 PvPers it’s with Guild Wars 1 PvE’ers. And that’s a whole different boat.
I’ve said repeatedly that Guild Wars 2 must be a big letdown for the PvP players. I’ve also said repeatedly that as Guild Wars 1 progressed, the focus shifted away from PvP and toward PvE. There are far more PvE achievements in Guild Wars 1 and the last two expansions didn’t add any PvP. The game switched focus.
In fact, many PvPers left Guild Wars 1 in disgust as the game got more and more PvE focused.
Which means for the last few years, Guild Wars 1 would have likely fielded more PvE’ers than PvPer’s. Take also into account the fact that Guild Wars 1 PvP was notoriously hard to get into for newcomers to the game. The community often wasn’t welcoming, the metas were quite complicated and if you came to the party late, you may very well have been discouraged.
I completely agree many Guild Wars 1 PvPers probably don’t like Guild Wars 2. I never, however, claimed to talk for PvPers.
This is an excellent point. I never got into GW1 PvP. I did it a few times, but never enjoyed it much. I was mostly PvE.
The same is true for GW2. I’ve played around in PvP a little, but don’t enjoy it much. I stay mostly in PvE and WvW.
Had I been big into GW1 PvP, I may feel differently.
I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience. Unfortunately people can be jerks sometimes.
On the bright side, there are players that don’t mind running dungeons with <80s.
The trick is finding a guild that is dungeon focused. A group of people that just love doing dungeons.
Some guilds will have set days/times where they do nothing but help alts and lower level players do dungeon runs. I see players using their 80s to help others, then switch to their alts and get help in return.
Google works better then the search function on these forums, since BETA. Use the site: feature
for example:
“site:forum-en.guildwars2.com search never works”
Agreed. I use a similar method when I need to search these forums.
yes I’ve had problem with my mouse too
I do not speak for everyone, and this is just my opinion.
I was an avid GW1 player. I had taken a break from the game. When GW2 was announced, I was super excited but also had reservations. I mean, how could this game I loved so much be improved? Needless to say, I’ve been playing GW2 daily since the release.
A few weeks ago, I decided to play GW1 again. I didn’t enjoy it at all. I played for about an hour, then deleted it from my computer.
I love GW2 and all the improvements that were made. Yes it is a very different game from GW1, but I don’t see that as a bad thing.
Ditto my friend.
I’m having the same issue. I’ve only attempted to join parties and failed b/c the party would be full, and now I’m suppressed from joining any. This stinks.
First of all, happy to see the new LFG tool, but here’s some deal breakers in its current state.
Right now everyone’s trying to do the new TA path, so it’s natural that groups fill fast. I get that, so I’m ok with having to press ‘refresh’ over and over to see new groups crop up.
Then when I do, I see open groups and click the active “join” button… but nothing happens!
So I try to join another group in the list that hasn’t filled yet… again, nothing happens. All of a sudden, all the join buttons go grey and say I cannot join another group because I have joined too many groups recently.
I’m having the exact same problem. It’s telling me I have joined too many groups, but I have not joined ANY and I’m locked out. The throttling feature needs to be adjusted.
My advice for a new player’s first character: asura ranger.
The asura are easiest to jump with and make jumping puzzles fun, not a chore ending in rage quitting. They are also quite cute and bounce funny. :P
I think ranger is a great starting class. It’s fun to collect all the animals, and your pets are like side kicks that keep a lot of damage off of you in PvE. It’s also a very easy and fun class to play and great to get your feet wet.
I wouldn’t recommend Elemental as a first character because it take a bit of skill when done properly.
Once you get the hang of the game, you’ll kinda figure out where you want to go next as far as characters are concerned. I personally have different characters that I ring out depending on what task I want to do.
Have fun & welcome!!!
Bottom line, it appears that anyone with really high end Magic Find sets and items is well and truly brutally screwed.
Aye. That’s how I read the article as well.
It seems, to me, that the game is moving away from a sandbox/open-world format (different styles of play, play the way you want, there is no right or wrong way to play, do what makes you happy, everyone has different goals and different ways to achieve personal goals) to a more linear play style.
Read: less choice, more force.
Ranger(lv80) 466 deaths in 568 hours | 0.82 deaths/hour
Warrior(lv80) 288 deaths 166 hours | 1.73 deaths/hour
Elemental(lv32) 74 deaths in 45 hours | 1.64 deaths/hour
RPGs are more popular and diverse than ever. People of all ages, gender, and races play now days, not just teenage boys. This is wonderful! It brings people together in a way nothing else has been able to, and bridges generational, social, racial, and economical gaps. (/sings “kumbaya”) Part of the reason this is possible is because there is no “wrong way” to play. There is a little something for everyone.
I love that this game is so customizable and diverse, and taking a quick look at all the dyes on the TP and some of their prices (see: pyre and charred) I would say I’m not the only one.
Personally I like to take a break from zergs, dungeons, and various other activities and customize my toon. It’s a nice break.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the stats and setting up my toons in different way for different activities, but I like to look cool too. Transmutation stones would not exist if I were the only one that felt this way. My husband spends more time, and works harder on how his character looks than he does when we go on a date. No joke.
I think appearance is important/fun for the vast majority of MMO players, not just GW2. Think about all the options there are when creating a new character in any RPG game (see: Skyrim).
In short, statements like the OP’s do absolutely nothing constructive for our and the whole RPG community.
Should I just sell all my Magic Find items before the patch? So all MF food boosters will disappear also?
I would just wait until the patch comes out before selling/destroying/breakdown anything.
IMO there’s not enough info to act before the patch is even out, and what little info there is is vague and debatable among the players. Anet has changed their mind more than once about how things will work in the future, and have flat out said that they don’t know how some things will work in the future.
I personally will wait a week or two after the patch before I do something with my gear because sometimes they change their mind after the fact.
Soloing those champions is completely feasable. I soloed nearly all of the ones I had to take down. Take a look at your utilities, try different things. Sounds cliché but trust me, sometimes you need to alter up your playstyle just a bit.
I agree. You can solo the champs, but it is much easier to do where there are multiple people. I soloed with my ranger and my warrior, but I did have to alter my weapons and play style (melee/ranged) depending on the champ. Good luck!
Ask fellow guild members to help you, shout on map chat that you could use a hand and link the way point, transfer to a higher population server, or try to party up with others that need the same achievement. You can set your status to “looking for party” and advertise in Lion’s Arch.

Speciffically -
Account-Wide Magic Find
We’re removing Magic Find as an equipment stat. Instead, your Magic Find will now be an account-wide bonus that applies to all of your characters. You can boost your account’s Magic Find using Essences of Luck, which can be earned by salvaging Fine or Masterwork items.
Many players have spent a lot of time and money to get special magic find armor and weapon sets. Some of us even did this for multiple toons.
Will there be compensation, or do we basically have to start over on the magic find front?
While I like the idea that I will be able to have magic find AND butt-kicking stats at the same time, taking away something people have worked so hard for and giving them the one fingered salute is not acceptable behavior for a game company that wants customer retention.
Scenario: A new(er) player, let’s call her Lilly, just reached lv80 on her first toon. Lilly has been saving up all of her gold since lv1 and just purchased her first rare or exotic set with matching weapons along with accessories. She went with a magic find build because sparkly things that give them surprises make her happy. Lilly is excited! Now she is broke, but that’s ok because she has a cool outfit and can earn the gold back using her new gear. Lilly is a happy player, therefore Lilly is a retained player.
Now let’s fast-forward a week or two. Lilly logs in to see that her armor, weapons, and accessories are no longer functional, or at least not as functional as they were, and there is 0 magic find on her account. Now Lilly pretty much has to start over from square 1. She feels shocked, disappointed, defeated, and angry. She starts to think that the game is just a wast of time. Lilly is not a retained player.
People play video games to be social, feel a sense of achievement, have accomplishments, and generally feel happy. When these things are taken away, player retention goes down, as does word of mouth and new customer base. The players that stick around and take the blow because they feel too invested to leave won’t be as happy, and won’t talk positively about the game to potential players.
Since I haven’t seen official word about how this issue will be dealt with (if at all), I’m holding out hope that Arenanet will do the right thing and compensate players with account MF equal to or greater than current max MF, as well as compensation to obtain new gear. I’m really upset that hours and hours of play time and gold may be completely wasted.
Devona’s Rest is also experiencing the inability to place siege weapons.
Today’s gaming audience is more diverse than ever. Ranging in age, sex, race, education education level, and social status. One of the beautiful, and more difficult, things that AreneNet has pulled off is options and variety, allowing GW2 to appeal to a wider audience.
One of the things I adore about this game is that I can play how I want. I don’t have to participate in every single feature. While the Super Adventure Box may be giving a wink toward gaming ancestors (Mario, Zelda, etc…), remember the game is very young and is constantly growing and evolving (ex: Living Story). Also, it’s an optional feature. Try it out, if you don’t like it, don’t play it.
From someone who has worked professionally on online games, kudos to ArenaNet for breaking the mold and honoring the games that laid the path for modern games. Without them, there would be no Guild Wars.
I finally found it. It was the snow covered goblet. Thanks for the help; the CRTL trick saved me!
I guess my real irk is that I don’t know which item I’m missing. That would at least narrow it down to which map I’m looking on.
That is the guide I used today. I visited every site listed twice and the surrounding area. I thought I had them all, but the achievement is only showing 5. /bangs head against wall
I have completed every achievement (so far) under the Living Story tab except Lost and found. I’m at 5 of 6 Refugee Possessions returned. Is there any way to know which ones I have found and returned so I at least know if I should continue looking for dust covered or snow covered items? Or is this a needle in a hay stack? I spent all day looking for the 5 that I found and now have a headache. I feel a rage quit coming on
Fixed for me with last build. Thanks bunches!
I have never transmuted anything in this game and I have this glitch.
It’s not just the boots, it’s the coat and pants as well. I suspect other pieces from the medium Whispers armor as well. Please fix this. I’m on Devana’s Rest server. Female Sylvari Ranger.
This happened on several maps. Devana’s rest server.
Not sure what other info you need; just ask!
Glad to hear that the problem has been located. Please fix this bug.
