It’s awesome that you are doing this.
This is a great idea in theory, but I’ve run a community before and in execution this would be so bad in so many different ways.
Bravo for being constructive and thinking outside of the box.
I’m +1ing this so hard.
This feature is long overdue.
Agreed. This would be so helpful.
I would also like to see a weapon filter by profession. This would be especially helpful for new players, or even new alts, when learning the profession.
I heard that there were going to be new Halloween outfit in the gem store, so I checked my balance. Oh no, only 1 gem left!!! I was going to pick up a gem card, but after discovering that they were only town clothes, I will pass on this purchase.
Welcome!!!
My advice:
Much has been mentioned above, but it bears repeating.
Forums
1) Haters will hate, complainers will complain, fanatics will be fanatic, and trolls will troll (as seen in this thread). Try to read objectively, consider others’ point of view, and form your own opinion. Oh yeah, and try not to feed the trolls. :P
2) The forums are actually a great place to learn about updates and patches, discuss features, make suggestions, get help, report a bug, and follow up with support issues.
3) The search feature is broken. Yes, they know about it. No, it doesn’t seem like it’s high priority. Work around: Go to your search engine and type “site:forum-en.guildwars2.com [search term]” This will use your search engine to search only these forums for what ever you are looking for.
In game
1) Everyone has their favorite profession(s) and builds, and tend to be very passionate about it. You have 5 character slots. Try them all out! Find what you like, and what makes you happy. Experiment, play, and have fun learning.
2) There are lots of things to do in this game. There is content for almost every play style and personality. Don’t feel like you have to do it all, or conversely don’t feel like you have to pick and choose. Heck, don’t even feel like you have to like it all. That’s one of the things I love about this game, I don’t have to do the things I don’t like.
3) Guilds. There are lots of them. You may go through a few before you find one that’s a good fit. You can also be a member of multiple guilds. Lots of guilds have a focus. Some do dungeons and bosses, some are purely social, some are into storylines, some like guild events, some are PvP, others are WvW, etc… I’m a member of several guilds. When I want to WvW, I rep one guild. When I want to do a dungeon, I’ll rep the dungeon focused guild. I even made my own guild that is only for my family and IRL friends so we can play and be social together.
Again, welcome to the game!
I was a GW1 player as well. The combat is pretty different between the two. It’s always hard to learn new controls, but the more you play, the easier it gets.
You can also adjust what actions are performed with specific keys, allowing you to customize the controls, in the options menu.
Here are the presets, but you can change them to something more comfortable.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Options
Another ranged option would be warrior. As much as I generally hate to promote them, they have 2 long range weapons (longbow & rifle) which can throw out a fire field, blast finisher, stack vuln, and kill shot. It’s not elegant, but if you can keep yourself at range you can rain it down. Obvously, warriors have some great melee options too if you get pulled into the fray.
Very true. My main toon is a warrior. I use a longbow for range and a greatsword for melee. I will use the fire field, then blast finish, then swap to GS to finish them off. It’s pretty fun.
Not everyone can do jump puzzles. It can take a long time to complete a jump puzzle for your first time. Plenty of people get frustrated and just ignore them completely. I am much better at jump puzzles now than I was a year ago. It took practice.
I am saddened by the lack of recognition and reward we get for completing jump puzzles.
You didn’t give me anything for doing all the jump puzzles in the game.
I got 1 single exotic that I won’t ever use for finally conquering the Mad King’s Clock Tower.I felt accomplished when I reached these milestones but I don’t feel properly rewarded.
I want titles, I want better rewards, & I want more jump puzzles. Anyone else agree?
I totally agree. I LOVE jumping puzzles. Sometimes, I go run my top 5 or 10 favorites just because I enjoy them. I really do wish the rewards were better.
I also agree with there needing to be more puzzle to the jumping puzzles. Answering riddles, using clues, etc… Maybe not all of them, as I do enjoy many of the straight forward ones also, but it could be fun.
I dislike that the mad king clocktower is timed. I love the concept of the whole tower thing, but the OMG GOGOGOGO FAST, I hate. I’m a thinker. I’d rather take my time and plan my moves. For me JPs should be challenging but relaxing at the same time, like doing a New York Times crossword on Sunday morning.
JPs are a great break from the go go go, kill kill kill, go go go, stack, go go, kill of WvW, dungeons, PvP, and Mad King’s Labyrinth. The clocktower doesn’t seem like a break from that, which is really diappointing.
The only “real” always ranged class I think would be staff elementalist…. not only do you have huge AoE, but you can heal a large amount of people, too. If you ever want to go into the frey you can go dagger/dagger or scepter/dagger and do just fine, but remember you cant weapon swap, only element swap.
the other option would be longbow and axe/warhorn ranger. longbow most of the time, but axe/warhorn are both medium ranged and are good at keeping away from the enemy.
the other ranged classes usually have a ranged weapon and a melee weapon for swap.
if you go staff elementalist you will need Blasting Staff trait for sure (Arcana VIII)
As for ranger, usually you would go longbow and then a melee weapon. Which is good for staying back out of the fray but if you need to get into the combat you can in times of duals.
I’m not too sure about the other ranged classes for WvW.
This is good ranger advice. I use longbow with axe/warhorn swap. Just don’t forget to manage your pets.
I have an elementalist that I thought I was gong to love, but I really don’t enjoy playing her too much. This is a personal preference, some players adore their elm.
I just made a necro last week, level 30 something now, and I must admit that I enjoy her a lot more than I thought I would. Against my better judgement, I took her into WvW using a staff w/ dagger/warhorn swap, just to try her out. Surprisingly, she did pretty well! She died a couple of times, but all things considered, I was pleased.
I like that they move. It’s like a treasure hunt!!!
Crafting always takes up a good chunk of my time. I’m not a huge fan of it, but many people really enjoy crafting. Give it a try at the very least.
Side note. First thing I ever purchased!
LOL. This was fun to look at.
I’ve run into this as well.
Here is the main thread for this issue in the bug forum, but there are lots of other threads out there like it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/LFG-System-Suppression-Bug/first#post2976598
The explorer achievements are tough because there are a few areas that don’t have POIs, vistas, skill points, etc… that counts toward regular map completion. If you have map completion for all maps in the explorer achievement, but not the achievement, then it’s probably because of this. Some are tricky to get to, and use underground entrances.
What I did was first look for areas that still looked blurry on the map. Then I would walk the edges of the map very carefully, going up into all the little nooks and crannies, caves and crevices.
Cross referencing maps help too!
Go to the wiki page for a map, and look for the areas without any map completion next to them. Click the link, and cross reference your map.
Let’s take Snowden Drifts for example.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Snowden_Drifts
You can see that there are a few that do not have map completion listed. (see attachment) Click those links, I’m using Jotun’s Vista for example, and see where the area is located on the map. (see attachment) Now look at your map and see if you see the words Jotun’s Vista. If yes, move on to the next one. If no, and the area looks shaded and not clear like the rest of the map, then that area still needs to be uncovered.
http://gw2cartographers.com/
This is also a great site to see the shape of the maps. I also used this site a good bit for world completion. Click the icons for user submitted hints; really useful on chests, vistas, and jumping puzzles. It’s also great to find locations for crafting materials (like scales and bones), and ranger pets. You can toggle the icons using the menus at the top.

You can put anything that is tradeable or account bound into your bank, switch characters, and pick it up to use.
I do this all the time with dyes. Sometimes it’s from an unidentified dye, sometimes I craft dyes with the chef, then put them in the bank for another character to use.
You can also do this with armor, weapons, boosters, scrolls of knowledge, food, pretty much anything that is not soulbound.
As much as I myself would also like an account bound commander tag it’s just not going to happen. There are many people who have bought them for their alts. Changing it to account bound would make those people rage hard about how they bought x number of tags and would want to compensated their gold back.
If the change was implemented, it wouldn’t be that hard for Anet to run a filter for accounts with multiple commander tag purchases and send them a gold refund. I’ve gotten several unexpected refunds in the mail when they made changes, or there was a bug.
Many off the games with blood effects get rating 16 (mature), while GW2 has rating 12 (Teen). This opens up a larger amount of potential players.
This rating is based on whats possible in game, so making it optional wont change the new rating. For example, making it possible to install an unauthorized mod to unlock hidden features (the hot coffee mod in GTA San Andrea) was enough to change that games rating.
So adding such an option would change the rating
This^^^^ +1 to you
I highly suspect that that making world completion include WvW is an attempt by the company to persuade PvEers to get their feet wet in WvW.
However, I do like this neutral idea. If the neutral option was implemented, one would have to choose to be neutral before entering WvW maps. The only way to get out of neutral status would be to completely leave WvW and reenter.
Neutral status could be written so that no players would render, other than maybe your home server, or even your guild/party. This way there would be no spying.
Ack! I will probably jinx myself, but I haven’t gotten any errors in the forums. I did, however, get some on the TP, but just changing tabs always fixed it.
I got this last night as well
Guild Wars 2 isn’t WOW , so we don t have raids, we have dungeons / world events.
I can’t help but hearing the conversation those two guys in LA have about outhouses.
“We don’t have raids, we have dungeons”
HAHAHAHA yes!
Yeah, this is a big no go for me. I agree with all the other replies.
How is a new player (or even new alt) supposed to obtain a higher level, if they don’t get a fair amount of play time? Letting higher ranks have priority in queue only allows higher level players to become even higher, and prevent lower levels from ever being able to obtain a higher level therefore leaving them perpetually low on the list.
I actually don’t have a problem with the idea of a Priority ticket, as long as it was for gems only.
I would like to see active commanders (the ones with their tags up) have a different chat color in WvW.
Ah so sad you lost your fractal skin
I agree. I think the commander tags should be account wide as well.
is there a specific profession to craft with that’s more economical than another to lvl that way?
http://gw2crafts.net/total.html
This site is excellent for crafting your way to 400 in any craft. I haven’t used it for 400-500 yet, but I suspect its equally as awesome.
Great site, thanks for the link.
1) Always eat your food!!! They are very inexpensive for the lower level foods and can be purchased from TP (trading post) if you don’t want to become a chef. In addition to various added effects, most of them offer an xp boost on kills even though it’s not listed on the wiki.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Food
2) Map completion. Go to a starter area, find all the POIs (points of intrest), Vistas, WPs (way points), SP (skill points), and do all the hearts. This actually gives a good bit of xp. Lion’s arch, and all the starting cities (accessible via LA) have map completion as well. You can go to a major city, complete the map, then move into that race’s starting area. A little hint for the hearts… Many of them want you to find and/or activate things like a trap or a bush. Hold down the Crtl key to make these items more visible and easier to find. Anyone know how to sticky this key??
3) Events. While doing map completing, stop and participate in all the events. This gets you coins, xp, and karma even if the event fails. Most events are soloable even at a low level.
4) Kill everything. Even yellow animals give xp. Most of the time, killing reds on a map will count toward the nearest heart completion. And if you’ve eaten food, you get the bonus xp.
5) Crafting. I think this topic has already been covered by above posters.
6) Personal story. This gives huge chunks of XP. I will explore and do map completion and when I’m one level below the recommended level for the next story I’ll go do it. If you enjoy they personal journey, then it takes a little time to watch all the dialog. If you don’t, you can skip right through it, though you will be completely lost on the story and lore. If this is your first toon, I recommend watching all the dialogues and cinematic. IMO It’s very well done. But I’ll be honest, I have 7 characters, and I skipped through all of their story lines, except for my very first character.
+1 Mel.8769 and +1 Lonesamurai.4852
That is awesome that you did that Lonesamurai! I hope they listen to you.
Thank you
This is actually a big personal thing in my life as I lost my wife to a brain tumour, and my nan six months later to lung cancer
And this year I can finally do Movember aswell (only took till I was 34 for my full beard to grow through, should I grow up now?!?)
I’m so sorry for you loss. I have lost several members of my family to cancer as well, and currently my grandmother is fighting the fight.
Congrats on the facial hair! My hubby is 31 and still can’t do a full beard. I’ll let him know not to give up hope.
@CattivoUomo HAHAHAI love it! Awesome!
I’ve always thought that 1) there should be seperate PvE and WvW tags
2) Commander tags should be earned. I haven’t worked out all the details in my head for a good system, but it’s been brewing for a while.
I see lots of commander tags at dragon events and in LA, and I don’t recognize any of the names from WvW. So one day I asked. They said they had never set foot in WvW.
I use GW2 as a teaching tool for my 1st grader.
1) Reading, comprehension, & reasoning skills: I make her read all the pop ups and interaction dialogues, and help her with the more difficult words. Then we talk about what it means, and if there is a choice we discuss the implications of each possible choice.
2) Math and finical skills: Crafting. Is is less expensive to purchase a premade item or craft it yourself? If it’s cheaper to craft, gather the mats or purchase them? How many iron do you need to make an ingot? How many ingots do you need to make a sword? How many total orr do you need? Sell items on TP or merchant? Don’t forget about listing fees.
3)Ethics and team work: Sometimes she just watches the map to go revive someone. I’ve heard this more than once; “Mommy! Someone was fighting a lizard and died, so I killed the lizard and made them alive again!!! And I got scales!!!” or “I almost died, but someone helped me kill the spider!!! That was super nice of them.”
There are a lot more lessons we learn by playing GW2, but I’ll spare the details.
Her school has computer class that they attend. They learn how to use a mouse and keyboard, and software basics. They also play educations games that are centered around typing, math, and spelling.
The school also has a membership to a math website where each child has their own account, and each class is on a team. The more math games they play, and the higher the level, the more points the earn. They get individual achievements, and group achievements. The classes compete each week to see who has the most points. The website also ranks all the participating schools across the country.
The child can do math in her head faster than I can.
While I agree that video games can be too much of a good thing sometimes. There are also a lot of great things that can be taught via games and computers, especially when the parent/teacher is actively participating with the child and explaining/challenging them.
norn med t3 cultural
. Id just like to play my way. The way that brings me joy.
This is a fantastic attitude to have. I wish more players would think like this instead of feeling pressured by other players who think their way is the correct way and any other way is wrong.
:)
OMG you people are lazy. Firstly, just use the luck as you get it, and maybe just leave 1 as your placeholder for the next few that you get. Now if you want to talk about removing something really annoying, how about the purchase confirmation for some vendors where you can only buy 1 item at a time. “Are you sure you want to buy this?” Yes “Are you sure you want to buy this?” Yes “Are you sure you want to buy this?” Yes…OMG YES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD I NEED TO BUY 100 OF THESE!
t(>.<)tAt least with the luck it’s just a bunch of clicks without confirmation and as stated in another response you can take a bunch all at once to craft into higher amount lucks to reduce your clicking. Sorry if you have to take just a little time to travel to do that, but it’s the price for the convenience.
1) Not everyone is an artificer.
2) The open all feature suggested is intended to be a time saver.
3) It’s not just about essence of luck, it’s about all the bags/consumables. When I reach 1.5 million in karma, which is pretty regularly, I go and buy 500k worth of orrian jewlery boxes, open them all, drink all the karma, and spend back down to 1 million. Wash, rinse, repeat, until I only have 1 mil left. That’s a LOT of clicking and its time consuming.Running champ train, Scarlett’s minions, WvW, Mad King’s labyrinth, and many other activities are all very fast paced. It is easy to accumulate large stacks of bags/consumables (like scrolls of knowledge) that need to be opened one at a time.
My question to you is, if this was implemented, would it harm your game play? My guess is no, you could still use what ever method you prefer. Would it enhance the game experience for others? Yes.
Options are good. People like options. Options make for happy players. Happy players play more, spend money, and recommend the game to others creating a sense of hype. Win win for players and ArenaNet.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying I oppose this. I’m merely pointing out that there are many, many other things and ‘time saver’ options that should be fixed first before a consume all, primarily with the vendors where you have to buy a bunch of rare items (icy runestones). That and I did point out that yes, as an artificer, the developers did at least give you some way to convert all your luck into large luck consumables to reduce your clicking. If you don’t have that profession yet then you now have a goal to reach which isn’t all that bad. If they add a consume all option I would be fine with that, but I also want them to add to vendors a ‘I want to buy this many’ option, with a single ‘Are you sure?’ confirmation. As it currently is, there is the click to buy, move the mouse to the Yes, click to confirm, move the mouse to click to buy again routine that is annoying as hell.
I agree with you on the need for adding a purchase multiple function. And I also agree with you on the point of there being lots of little implementations that would enhance a players experience.
That sounds a-peel-ing
HAHAHAHAHA I just spit coffee on my screen.
/sits back, grabs popcorn
Wow.
I see the point of being selective about what charitable causes to promote as a company. However , I don’t think anyone is going to say, “Yeah, I’m pro cancer so I’m quitting GW2”
That being said, I would definitely purchase gem items where proceeds go to research, funding of treatments, grief counseling, ect… for cancer.
They could release t-shirts (mentioned earlier), hats, hoodies, back items, dyes (mentioned earlier), harvesting equipment, weapon skins, armor skins, fireworks, pink roses, pretty much anything. I would love to see an in memory of candle.
Yes, like a subscription. Add the option to watch or subscribe to a thread. Have a place listed in the top right (where account info and PMs are) that shows a notification.
Since we are suggestion website improvements……. A timestamp on the subforum list would be great.
Also, and option for notification when someone replies directly to you would be handy.
click on the timestamp to have it display in a traditional date/time format.
I did not know this!!! My OCD thanks you for pointing this out.
I’m sorry I don’t have an answer to you problem.
I think you may get more help by looking/posting in this forum: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech
It deals with the computer/hardware related issues.
Actually, it appears they will now change some guild names if they are offensive enough. They use not to at all. I guess you can try asking support, but it may only be for offensive names.
this thread here as reference
Gaile Gray
ArenaNet Support Liaison
We will rename an offensively-named guild. Except in extreme cases, they are not disbanded these days.It says they rename it though, which means you won’t get to chose the name.
Great find on that link!
In the case above where the guild name could be construed as sexist, if you explained the situation and requested a name change, they might do it. Be sure to include the guild name you’d like in the ticket. When I would do name changes (for a different game), it was much appreciated when the person told me what they wanted.

It is not a bug. It is how they designed and implemented the system. If you have a problem with how it’s working, this is not where to post this topic. Not saying that I don’t agree with the rest of what you’re saying though.
I think they may be looking at it as a bug. Initially I thought it was poor design, but I created this thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Chat-suppressed/first#post3042125) and it was moved by a moderator to the bug subforum.
There are also several other threads about this topic that could probably be merged.
I had the same problem. Killed it 2 or 3 times before I got the achievement. I thought it was because I was guesting on a different server. Was using a necro and all skills, and I did get gold event status and chest on the times I did not get the achievement.
Have you tried contacting support? I’m almost positive the mechanism exists on an Admin level. If you get the right person and are super nice they may be able to help.
Do you have any friends that you trust on your old server? If so, I think you can add them to the guild, they can withdraw and mail the items to you.
Someone please chime in if I’m wrong.
great link!
This is a good idea, but should come with a confirmation prompt.
Imagine how horrifying it would be if you accidentally ate a whole stack of 15s/each food.I think idiot-proofing sections of games is a difficult call. You would already have to right-click and move the mouse to select the option, do we really need a Windows’ styled prompt to ask if we’re really, really sure we want to exit without saving?
I think leave it as a drop down selection and let people be more careful about things, maybe it’ll encourage more reading, lol. And this is coming from someone who has made mistakes like this countless times across countless games, just saying, I’m as stupid as the next average gamer.
What about a UI similar to breaking a stack of items, a small popup asking how many you’d like to open with default set to max?
