Guild Wars 2

Hi. I am trying to learn how to use the API in a script in Google spreadsheets. My goal is to pull the current trading post sell price of an item from the API into a cell in the spreadsheet. I am a novice and this is my first attempt at any sort of programming/scripting/etc… Needless to say it is not working. :P I would greatly appreciate help from you more experienced community members. Thanks!

Edited to say that of course, right after I post this, I’m able to log in.

I’ve been having this problem for the last 2-3 days.

Open client > get “unable to access server at this time” message > close client > restart > successfully log in

My little list:

1) All skills/specializations have been reset to 0; no hero points returned

2) All living stories in Story journal are locked (I had them all unlocked). Personal story seems to be OK.

3) Unlocked and completed achievements are now locked, but total achievement points were not affected.

Achievements affected:
*All story Journal
*Daily (completed last night)
*The Silverwastes
*Dry Top
*Some Explorer, but not all, seems to be the newer ones (ex: Lion’s Arch Exterminator has been reset, but I have Princess; older achievements like Orr explorer and Grounded are still marked completed)
*Fashion
*Jumping Puzzle > only Troll’s Revenge, which I have completed, the rest are OK
*ALL Basic and Rare collections have been reset and/or locked

I do love the more search options, but I don’t like the new UI. It feels cluttered and clumsy, and I’m getting claustrophobic just looking at it. The limited visibility of items makes it hard to browse.

The worst thing is, I CAN BARELY SEE LISTINGS. The font is so tiny and thin, it is very hard to read.

As part of the addition of the level-up guide, we’ve reevaluated the item rewards you gain for leveling and made them more exciting, relevant, and useful items. We won’t be able to retroactively give these rewards to existing level 80 characters …

We’ve done some pretty major overhauls to make the rewards for completing chapters feel much more compelling than they were in the past. Personal story chapters will absolutely be worth completing for your character as you progress. Similar to level-up rewards, we won’t be able to retroactively apply these to current level 80 characters …

I feel like they are giving us loyal vets who have been with the game since the beginning, have not taken long vacations, and have leveled many toons (and even purchased extra character slots) the big ol’ one finger salute.

I understand not being about to give every 80 in the game a boatload of goodies, as we did get some sort of reward the first go around, but at least give us something for being a loyal customer. I’m not talking about a crafted ascended backpiece that takes a month to craft, requires hours and hours of farming and events, and is super expensive and complicated to make.

When it comes down to it most of us vets are similar to Skritt, give us something shiny (with no strings attached) every once in a while and we’re pretty happy.

Normally I’d agree with you, but when I am custom making items that have been ordered to flip a profit and that 2 mins of throttle means that someone else filled the order and I have lost gold, I tend to loose my patience.

I believe it was you that suggested I clear the temp files after I made a bug report. I used to work tech support for another game company, when I saw the very well written reply I (see attachment).

I could have crawled under my desk from embarrassment.

@StinVec Have you cleared the GW2 temp files? I had a similar problem a while back and that fixed it.

I’m sure you have, as you are a smart cookie, but it never hurts to ask. Sometimes I will forget the easiest/most obvious solution when I am solving my own problems. Then I will promptly (facepalm)

I sell a good amount pretty fast. I’m sure that is what triggers it.

It is more than likely a security measure that needs to be tweaked to decrease the throttle limitations, and/or have a back set of rules to check against before implementing the throttle.

I haven’t run into the not loading problem, but I do get the ‘error attempting to sell’ after about 5 or so transactions > close TP; wait a few mins > sell 1 item > get ‘error attempting to sell’ > wash, rinse, repeat after every transaction after the initial 5

I read an article this morning where players are supposed to get a bonus Dragon Coffer when they open a Black Lion chest.

Yes. There was a screencap of an in-game map discussion with a dev where she stated that the ‘error attempting to sell’ bug was, indeed, a bug, and that it should be fixed soon.

“Soon” hahahaha I know what that is dev speak for. :P

I do hope they fix it, as I like to play the market and the throttle hinders my game enjoyment. I usually get frustrated and quit playing for a day or so.

+1 for Atlanta. However I’m able to do just about everything on the internet BUT gw2. I’m getting an authentication error on login.

DR is pretty anti zerg. You may find a small zerg (25 people or so) running a karma train once or twice a week, but overall like to be more tactical.

Welcome! I’m glad you are having a good time. Remember if you have any questions at all, chime in and ask. We are never too busy to explain something!

Camaraderie at its best. From fighting side by side and experimenting with builds, to helping with individual goals, and everything in between, BRL is hands down the best guild I’ve ever been a part of in any game.

We actually care about each other, and have gotten to the point that we can tell if someone is sick or having a bad day just by their play style and/or voice on teamspeak. We look after each other, in game and out.

BRL isn’t just a guild, it’s a family full of brothers and sisters. A family I’m proud to be a part of.

DR is a fantastic server with a small town feel and big goals. The people on DR are genuinely good folks willing to help, learn, share, and teach others. Those with negative attitudes and selfish goals tend not to last long on this server.

I’ve seen many guilds come and go, and some come back again. We have seen rough times and victories. One thing remains the same… an awesome community full of brotherhood and support, no matter the guild association.

Since the last release, the Promotions tab int he gem store will not load for me. I can click the tab and get the loading wheel, when I try to switch table the gem store is frozen. I have to leave the gems store to get to a different tab.

You will loose accesses to your initial guild bank. Even if you guest, you will not be able to access the items.

I believe the OP was asking if there is another way other than the TP to acquire these runes, like crafting, laurels, or dungeons.

I do not have the answer, but hopefully someone else around here does. Best of luck!

One way is to use a Black Lion Salvage kit to break down an item that has the rune on it. You can find them from random drops or from the TP.

Hi there! You can start off by using the LFG tool and meet people. Most guild are pretty welcoming. Also WvW is a good place to meet groups of people.

Also, most players use TeamSpeak3 or Mumble to voice comm. Many servers have a server wide TS available to all players. For gaming, Skype is laggy and eats bandwidth.

The few times I have had a ticket, the initial “hey we got your request” comes in about 5 minutes, with a personal follow up in about 24 hours. However, right now CS has their hands full with the account bound gathering tools, WvW town clothes change, and flame armor nerf. I’m sure they are up to their eyeballs in angry letters. Give them the requested 3 days, if you don’t hear anything reply to initial email to bump it and post your ticket # in this forum for the lovely Gaile to review. Do not create a new ticket

I find it interesting Support does not feel they are part of ArenaNet. Most enlightening. I will have to agree with the suggestion to review support responses. Much cut-and-paste that often seems barely relevant to the request/question at hand, redundant, out-of-date, or less than up-to-date.

Many game companies do not run their own CS. They contract it out to a company and there are liaisons on both sides that work to convey issues and information between the game company and the CS company.

I do not know if Arenanet works this way or not, but it’s a probability.

15 skill points : 1 level seems like a very low ratio, too low IMO

There are plenty of skill point sinks in the game. Example – converting siege into superior
I dropped 100 SP into converting last night.

I would love to see a saved build feature too.

The way I see it working in the game is by the player unlocking the template(s) via gems and maybe even in achievement chests or super rare drops.

The template would allow you to to store weapons, armor, trinkets, and remember trait lines. You could also custom name the build.

This way you can quick swap between builds (while out of combat of course) and have a little extra storage for equipment.

Players have a happy and Anet is making money. I’m not seeing a down side here.

My guild has been doing naked Wednesdays. This week it was naked jumping puzzles. :P

On the point of creating new threads vs using old ones? Darned if you do, darned if you don’t. I’ve see people get in trouble for creating new threads, and I’ve seen people get in trouble for “necroing” by posting in a thread that’s not on the first 2 pages. It’s very confusing for us players to know what the proper procedure is here.

I have to agree with Salome and Aye on this one. I have worked in the gaming world, and I’m a player so I see both sides here, but that was a total brush off.

Sharing resources with customers is a good thing, but using them as an answer/solution to a CS ticket is not.

I understand Salome’s frustration as I had the same thing happen to me last week while dealing with an iOS game support. I encountered a bug that stopped progression, so I took screen shots and wrote a bug report (expected result, actual result, steps to repro, etc…). I asked them to either fix the bug, or skip me past it. The reply was basically, “Sorry your game is broken, get help on the forums.” I was so mad I almost threw my phone. I replied and stated exactly how that was unacceptable CS. Their reply? “Sorry, we’ll let our superiors know you weren’t satisfied. This ticket is now closed.”

Arenanet’s response was much more eloquent and professional than the one I encountered, but the bottom line is the same. I love Arenanet and sincerely hope that the reply Salome received is not a standard reply.

This is coming from someone who loves Elementalist above all other classes: Try another class.

Elementalist is a ton of fun, but the frequent attunement-swapping, low health, and low armor make for a class that’s relatively complicated to play, and more-than-usually easy to die with. If you find yourself dying a lot, you might try something a little beefier, like a Guardian, Warrior, or Ranger. If start with a class that can take a few good hits without dying, you’ll find the game a bit more forgiving of mistakes.

Other than trying out different classes to see what works best for you, here are a couple other tips:

1) Try to limit how many enemies you fight at once. It might be slow-going, but even many large groups of enemies can be whittled down by pulling away one or two at a time, luring them away from the others.

2) Learn to use dodge-roll. You can dodge-roll by double-tapping a movement key, or by pressing [v]. This is extremely important with a delicate class like Elementalist, where you need to do everything you can to limit the number of hits you take.

3) Be sure to upgrade your armor/weapons. If you’re doing renown hearts (the yellow hearts/quests on the map,) many of them will sell level-appropriate weapons/armor, and the Personal Story will feed you upgrades at a decent pace as well. You don’t have to worry about which stats you use much until later in the game, once you’ve figured out what you want to specialize in, but it’s good just to keep the numbers improving.

Keep your ele on the shelf until you get a little experience under you belt. I’ve played all classes and agree that Ele is the most difficult/complicated. Once you get some GW2 experience under your belt, I think it will be much more enjoyable.

Looking at the list of other games you’ve played, I’m going to recommend Ranger as a starting class. Yes, Warrior is tougher and everyone swoons for the warrior around here, and I even play warrior as my main in WvW, but I really think you will enjoy Ranger. You can stand back, command your pet to selectively aggro, start damaging with your long bow, then finish them off with an axe/warhorn.

While warrior can run up and attack anything, the ranger lets you stay back and be a bit more tactical and learn the mechanics of the game.

Again, I do like my Warrior in WvW, but I also adore my PvE ranger.

Hands down my favorite character.

I’ve done all the orders, so when I made my 4th toon I chose Order of the Whispers just to see Tybalt again. When Claw Island came, I teared up and had to skip the heart breaking scene.

I’ve power leveled with crafting. Use a crafting booster if you have one! I believe you can also purchase them from the gem store. Worth every penny.

I say roll the ranger. That way you’ll have toons in all 3 armor classes.

I love my ranger.

Everyone has their opinion on that the “best” profession is. Also these opinions change with every rebalance.

The key here is figuring out how you want to play and building for that. Every profession can range and melee. By using gear and traits, you can determine your character’s play style. Also, by playing different professions, you figure out what you like best about that profession.

For example, I created and Elementalist with the play style of, " she’s going to be in-tune with nature, bit of a hippy, back of the pack, staff wielding, support for the group" in mind.

When I made her and started playing, she turned out to be very tough and a little psychotic. She wields double daggers, does lots of condition damage, and is almost exclusively attuned to fire. She is not in-tune with nature at all, the elements are kitten [sic] afraid of her!!! I’m a little scared to play her sometimes. :P

My point is, the characters in this game can be built and played in so many different ways. My advice is to pick one and try it out and see what you like.
