I personally like the idea of having items that not everyone can get without doing the work. There are enough things to sell without making everything sellable.
Purple and Guanglai youre both wrong. I do care. Especially when or if I ever group I do want to fulfill my role whatever that may be.
But youre also wrong. There is nothing you can say that will convince anyone with half a brain that “they are playing wrong”that is a grade-school, cry baby, complaint. How can someone play wrong? are they having fun? yes. is that the purpose of the game? yes.
where is the wrong in that?fk world of clonecraft where everyone was expected to be the dps with the same build as everyone else.
Though to be honest it seems that the only ROLE anyone has in GW2 is to kill stuff fast, and not die quick.
Armor is all exocts with a few ascended pieces, all power, crit, crit dmg. (used to be condi, till I realized that only helped on targetable units that could bleed) runes I use +10 to all stats,
build is 6/5/0/0/1
as for details I’d have to log in when I get home from work.
Just for information. I know the information about the build is limited right now, but you should do between 6 and 7k dps once fully buffed. Compare to a DPS warrior that will do 12.7k dps and a more standard EA warrior doing 10k dps or a Phalanx warrior doing 9.5k dps.
So at best you do 26% less dps than a Phalanx Warrior, but of course you probably do lot less than that because you won’t be fully buffed, while a phalanx warrior will at least always have 25 might and EA that you probably won’t have depending on your party.
But i’m not saying that you play the profession wrong. You don’t use the strength of your profession. You participate less to your party in term of build. But like you said, its a game and there is nothing wrong with PHIW mentality.
You’ll all have to forgive me, Having spent the last 4 years actually being a warrior (US Army infantry baby!) I don’t have a lot of time to play.
You’ll have to update me on this Phalanx Warrior of which you speak.
Also I haven’t the gold flow to spend 10-20g on each rune that is FOTM.
Last time I played much was in February, and at that time there was no 1 point every 5 levels or whatever this new anti-fun garbage is, it was 1 per level so you actually felt like you were doing something when you got new level.
another topic for another time though
I’ll pick this up when I get off work in an hour. Then we can discuss which direction a good dps PVE build should go.

The best thing to do, is pick whatever you like the most.
I run sword/axe and Longbow.
sometimes I switch to rifle.
Sometimes I feel like running around with a greatsword. Its more how well you play your toon, and what kind of person you are, and less what build you go with.
Honesly who would you rather play with? some kitten elitist jerk from WoW with his own “omfgrofflestompyourface you don’t have the right build/gear!?!?!” attitude?
Or someone with 5 dps less, who is a joy to play with?
If it only were 5 dps no1 would be qqing about it
Sadly it’s more like doing 2-3 times more dmg when running the meta with the right armor and stuff compared to some pugs saying " I play what I want"Run whatever you want but get ready to get kicked from a party in dungeons when they want you to run the right builds/weapons etc.
I would also recommend Nike!’s guide which was already linked.
I’ve yet to see a build/guide/video of someone doing that much more dps than I do with my sword/axe build.
its usually just “i seem” or “it feels like” they are doing more dmg.I don’t run dungeons out side my own friends/guild for this reason though, to many disenfranchised wow left overs who rage if “feel” like they spend 10-20 minutes longer running a dungeon with ‘you’ than they did with the ‘last x class they had’ everyone on earth will de-evolve back to pond goo.
Typically they are the type of people that fill low elo in League of Legends, the kind that blame everyone else for everything that goes different than what they had in their own little minds. Its NEVER their own fault when they suck. The problem is this:
if you’re in it to be the best at something, do everything right to become the best at it, don’t pretend that you already are, no matter what the facts say.
If you’re in it to have fun, do whatever is fun to you, but don’t screw everyone else who expects you to perform in a specific role.its really simple.
How much DPS do you do with sword/axe?
Uh purple. Sometimes green.
No idea. Been a while since my self worth was inseparably connected to my DPS.
and left my dmg meter back in wow about 6 years ago.
But I got a bolt, so you know it must be way up there. Like in the top 900 of all warriors at comic con.
Sometimes I hit for 50, sometimes I hit for 13,000!! so theres that…
And women ask me to sign their babies all the time. So I know its got to be THAT high.
In all seriousness though, if it is any indication, if I whack at a mob long enough in a group of people, it doesn’t take long before its chasing me around the room ignoring the others. So how much dps it that?

I……What game is he playing again?
had to log in and check for this one. Yeah it does. Crouches down, rump out, dust flies everywhere. PUFF PUFF PUFF!!
one of the worst animations in gaming history if you ask me. Funny, but bad LOL
Changed up my build. Decided to try the sword/horn and SB
Dunno where this build has been all my life!
I LOVE!!! Sword/Horn! Wrecking face with it. With pet call, and gear, and 5 on horn I can get 110% crit and 90% crit dmg. With healing spring, and life on crit food I only die if I do something stupid.
If you havent tried sword/horn youre really missing out.
Though I do find the 2 mostly unusable. Jumping that far from a mob just tends to throw me off cliffs, or pull additional stuff.
Also when fighting something with a stun, or aoe I’d like to avoid I seem to get stuck in what I call a “melee lock” where until I land my 3rd hit I’m “locked” in place.
minor details to a huge boost from bearbow builds that just suck.
Its all undead….Ignores my pet, runs straight at me.
Dont remember having half this trouble when I did it with my warrior.
I must have died 15 times doing the invasion of LA….
most of my gear is zerkers, using sigil of fire on my short bow (/map said it was the best) was running stacks per kill of perc. But going in and out of zones made it useless. I’ve got the best gear I can get at level 80. All Exotic, all power, prec, and crit dmg. I use heal on crit food, and still I’m getting rocked way to much.
Was it this much trouble when you did it?
Must say I’m disappointed. There have been a few changes since last year when I got bored and moved on to other games.
I play on Anvil Rock. It used to be a large server, with people everywhere.
If there was an event going on people came, or were there.
World dragon events always had people come to do.
Not anymore. I was the only person At tequatl today. Come to find out that even though this game is hemorrhaging players (or did already.) They decided to make this event nigh undoable.
Even simple fun things like Grenth are now undoable.
AND as a consequence players such as myself that can’t devote entire days to this kind of thing, can not get something as simple as world completion now. There are places, that unless you do the champ or legendary boss wandering around them, that you can’t get.
Grenth is one such event. There is a skill shrine behind him that you will never get.
The only thing going on on my server now, is this stupid loop 20 or so people are running day and night in Queensdale.
As for me there is only so many times I can run from boar to troll, to bandit, to oak, to spider and back to boar. This is the ONLY thing going on.
And for what? more luck to get more magic find so you can get items that are not any better than what you already have?
why bother? get a legendary? do all that work for what? a skin. Thats it. Oh and a little icon next to your name so everyone will know how stupid you are.
Dunno what I was expecting when I came back to play some. But in the last 3 days, I see nothing that will keep me playing for more than a month a year.
PvP/WvW is garbage unless you wanna run some cookie cutter build.
just frustrating to want to do things, and not being able to because the game is dead, and then even MORE infuriating to find out they are making things harder and require more people when THEY DONT HAVE THAT MANY PEOPLE PLAYING EVER!
I think the only stat of your that will affect your pet is your healing power determining how much it is healed for. I’m not sure of this because when I tried to test it in pve, the changes to pet aggro made it so everything would come after me and then my pet would kill it without taking damage.
Yeah i really don’t like this at all.
I wish they would have made an in game feature that allows us to decide if and when we want our pets to tank for us.
Been wondering this i was knee high to a grasshopper.
Unfortunately we here at Anet, do not agree. We don’t like anything remotely close to what everyone else does, and we feel that giving rangers a dagger would be to much like an actual ranger. So we’ve decided not to, because we feel it would be to cool, and we don’t like to think at all. and it woudl take thinking.
Rule #1. Don’t listen to the complaining of the people on the forums. Its all emotionally hyped. I have zero issuse with my ranger. I’m leveling with short bow, and whatever armor gave me the best crit and crit damage.
For pets I’ve gone with whatever sounded fun. I have used about everthing. Cougar, and bear was good for a while. I keep the bear as back up but found a white wolf that has been really fun. The cougar I’ve sacked due to some change that makes him not tank, and I dont like to kite stuff. He does great damage, but dies to fast.
I’ll have to give melee a chance i’ve been told, but so far the fast hitting SB has been a lot of fun.
I"ve got 30 points in crit/crit damge, 20 in beasts, and 15ish in power.
with my bear I can solo quite a few champions. For underwater I found an armored fish that just don’t die =)
Rangers are fun.
Was wondering this myself.
and this “improvement” Kaz speaks of is enough to make me drop my hunter completely.
back to warrior…
ugh…well this game isn’t fun anymore.
forced to use cat from now on =(
Ranger. they are op.
http://store.steampowered.com/news/9943/
Just an example of how things are turning in favor of the Linux community.
I would love to see GW2 run out of box on linux.
But I don’t like the charr….They made it so we cant wear capes in this game =(
I’m pretty sure that thiefs are what made capes disappear from this game, not charr.
really and for true? how so?
But I don’t like the charr….They made it so we cant wear capes in this game =(
I must have missed a huge part of the story, but as I recall playing a human in GW1 I seemed to have spent a LOT of time killing Charr who were destroying my home?
So why now are we all buddy-buddy?
really? wow. thats funny. at level 47, all the rangers i’ve met talk to me like i’m kitten “dude y u no use LB? way moar damages”
that sort of thing.
I loath pvp so…maybe that has something to do with it?
Edit: actually loath is to kind a word. I’d rather stick my junk in a blender, beat a dry cactus with them and then sprinkle some lemon juice with Tabasco sauce on them than PvP. That almost explains how I feel about PvP…..
(edited by Methal.9045)
cuz they were scrubs who came from world of ezmodecraft and played a huntard there. They expected jesus to fly out of the sky and kill an entire zone with his lazer eye nukes and hand over the XP and gold to the “huntard of gw2”
Thats why.
dual jaguar? wait you can have two pets at once?
I’d have to say Bear, the guy never dies. Gives me a chance to kill stuff.
unless i’m doing a champ with a group then I switch to spider.
Whats yours?
Is condition dmg just not as good at 80 as it is at 30?
I don’t think its humanly possible for me to care less about PvP garbage, so I’ve never considered short bow in pvp. could that be the reason no one uses a short bow?
I hate the way every toon holds the greatsword.
Most veterans are far too easy to drop worthwile loot, but increasing their strenght would make them really difficult to handle when soloing. Champions could use better loot tables and possibly more interesting/challenging fights (I soloed the champion Ooze even in Cursed Shore yesterday).
Maybe they shouldn’t be soloable? It’s an MMO, is it not?
Do you actually play the game? Have you seen how many veterans are there? I’d say they should be soloable (and they currently are) because they are pretty common, and there are many non-group events involving one or more of them. And having most content soloable is pretty okay especially considering how big our world is and how empty some zones are.
MMO =/= forced grouping everywhere.
I disagree.
Especially when this game has zero reason to group already.
“forced to do something” and “games” should never be in the same sentence together.
If you believe that people should be “forced to do something” they don’t want to do, get off the computer games and go get a freaking job. Stop mooching your parents to death.
Games should be a fun escape from being forced to do stuff.
soloed my first champ. Took me almost 15 minutes.
Got 22 copper.
I’m going to start looking for another MMO play. This one is to….“adhd child friendly”
I thought Engineer was good, till I got two pistols and shot them. Then I rolled a warrior.
So I rolled a Messmer too!
and its level 3 now.
I like my ele more.
so far im going to go with
i5 3570k
ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe
SAPPHIRE 100354XTL Radeon HD 7870 XT (the only one with 1536 stream procs)
8gb of Crucial 1600mhz low profile gaming ram,
OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-128G 128GB SATA III SSD.
and
LIAN LI PC-Q08B Mini-ITX tower case.
The PSU is still under investigation. Though I will probably be going with something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171068
I wont be OCing this thing. In a M-itx build heat is giong to be an issue. Even though i’ll be using an H80 or similar to cool it.
Every new ele must go through the ritual of becoming a master.
1st—> Get yourself some Pre/crit/pow exotic armour
2nd—> Try out staff. Fiddle with traits.
3rd—> Try out sceptor and focus. Fiddle with traits.
4th—> Try out dagger and dagger. Fiddle with traits.Following this (Spend a week each on each).
6th —> Get yourself the P/V/T gear which u can get with badges dropped from enemies in wvw or by AC dungeon tokens.
7th -->try each weapon style now.
8th—> decide which play style suits you
9th—> Mix PVT gear with the other gears to suit you
10—> You are no longer a padawan
Uh…K?
that kind of thing just pisses me off.
I just wish amd had a mini ITX that could compete. Not seeing anything.
5 responses and 5 different “must have” builds.
Tells me this is either a very diverse class, or a very limited one where traits don’t mean jack.
Sure, lets make elementalists like other classes. Let’s bump them up to heavy armor and give them a great 100 wands ability, oh and we could add illusionary doubles cause why not?
why not? every profession is the same in this game anyway. all dps, all healing, all utility, all tank…oh wait. Nope not all can tank. Just warriors and guardians.
Guild warrior/guardian 2.
Not saying elementalist isn’t fun. Just saying its gimped compared to either of these two classes.
After playing D/D ele, I found many other playstyles too passive in comparison. Like some rangers, they simply send out the bear to tank, and barrage or repeated shots. They don’t even need to move around.
sometimes thats exactly what I wanna do =)
so wait….The i5 3570 that I am thinking of getting could use TIM INSIDE between the die and the outer plate?
yah thats not cool at all.
So I need to learn to use my different attunments better. Which brings me to another question. F-keys suck to find.
how have you gotten around searching for them?
http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/elementalist#1.0-3.4.10.19.0-5.10.0.0.0-0
Thats what i’m running right now.
(edited by Methal.9045)
I went staff til 40 then switched to dagger/dagger. However I also played staff very poorly (never changed attunements, sat in fire with all fire buffing traits).
If I had to do it over again I’d start dagger/dagger and just get better at it by 80 (figure learning how to use it without all the great traits would make you a better player).
how did you stay alive long enough to win any fights? let alone the next one after having used all your CDs on the first fight?
having a hard time deciding what weps to go with. So far i’m level 22, and using S/D
I feel way to squishy to use d/d, since I seem to get killed in like 3 shots. I wish I could start fights with staff then switch to daggers when things get to melee range.
Everything on this form seems to be for PvP….I loath pvp. its like a chaotic garbled mess of deaths and zerg rushes and people magically appearing all over the place.
With s/d fire is pretty much useless. (whatever) and lightning takes forever to “ramp” up to start dealing damage. Except for 2 that is a lot of fun. and D 4 and 5 are awesome too.
what did some of you level with?
how did you stay alive?
I’ve got a level 80 warrior and leveling was not this much trouble at all with her.
Thanks
Thanks for the input =D going to take some of your suggestions into effect.
The motherboard I’m going to be building it on is a mini ITX. The computer is going at work, and has to be really small. I’m going with the LIAN LI PC-Q08B.
I’ll have to spend some time today looking over the AMD side of Mini ITX board. Its been a long time since i’ve used AMD. (since the release of the Q6600 actually)
Building a new computer specifically to play guild wars 2 better. The one I have at home is great, and runs it on max settings with out a problem at all. However it cost me 5k to build.
The one at work is a q6600, 4gigs, gtx285. its in dire need of an upgrade.
Currently going for an i5 3570, 16 gigs of ram, 128 gig sata III ssd , and an nvidia 660ti 3gb.
What Im trying to do is drop the cost from around 1200 to around 1k.
What I would like to know is where I can make a cut back without suffering, or creating a bottle neck in my performance.
Ideas?
Yes it will run it fine. I am at this moment running it on an i7 720m, 4 gigs of ram with a ati 5730.
They sell character slots in the store for 800 gems a pop
yay for smart people!
Not sarcastic. I’m dumb. USA infantry. Get shot at for a living. =D
Are you dead yet? If not then you are at least smart enough to be doing something right. If so then I must say I am extremely impressed at your ability to type when in the grave. What’s it like being dead?
Came close a couple times. But no i’m still kicking around =D
Fuzzion.2504 you missed the point of the OP. He is commenting on how ridiculous it was having a warrior state that GW2 elementalist are better than GW1.
I have seen that post and it is nonsense. The warrior was saying that we output God-like damage. Has any ele managed to break the 10k in 1 hit yet? I have seen a warrior do it before but not an ele.
10k in one hit? My warrior’s evisc hits for 15k quite regularly without any special set up.
anyone able to change this, would be cool.
Just wonderin whycome does my toon hold Mystic Barricade upside down?
looks that way…
