Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
I’d play it, but I’m an engineer and we own underwater.
This. I only do pure underwater sections with my Engineer, ‘cause it’s actually semi-enjoyable on him.
In all seriousness, though, this might actually become a thing in the future, especially if they ever decide to make Largos a playable race. There could be an entire starting zone that’s entirely underwater.
I know there isn’t really a “best build” for all situations. This is more for what builds best utilize each profession’s strengths and unique abilities. A better title for this would be “Most natural builds for each profession” but it didn’t sound as catchy.
Anyway, here’s my dilemma. I currently have 8 level 80 characters, one of each profession. I did this so that I would have the flexibility to use whatever profession I deemed was necessary for a particular situation. The problem now, though, is that it’s getting very expensive to kit out every character. I’ll be lucky to afford one exotic set per character.
So, since I’m only planning on getting one full set per profession, I want to know what the best stat type is that I should be going for with each class. Which stats/trait/build fits most naturally with each profession, so that I don’t have to worry about making potentially expensive changes later on down the road?
This is solely for PvE and mostly for group content (dungeons, fractals, etc.), though I would be curious to know which profession is seen as the best for solo content, since I might just keep one profession around for pure soloing.
I’d love detailed builds with links to build sites and such, but even simple answers like “daphoenix’s Elementalist build” or “Berserker Warrior” would be helpful in letting me choose which build I’m going to toss each profession into.
TL;DR – If you could have only one build (stats/traits/gear/etc.) for each profession that you had to use forever in PvE, which build would it be?
At the moment, I’ve lost quite a bit more gold than I’ve made off of any of my alts.
To be fair, though, once one of my characters hits 80, I usually move immediately to the next one in line, so gold making for any purpose other than self-sustainment is usually out of the question.
Once I finally settle down on the leveling thing, I’ll probably make more money off of my alt collection.
3. Personal rewards, separate exp and drops from killing and chests.
This, in my opinion, is probably the best thing that GW2 developed and I’m seriously hoping it’ll catch on with future MMOs, since it really just makes sense.
The only other MMO that I play at all besides GW2 is TSW, because I like the story, setting, and premise (not to mention I’m still a healer at heart, so it’s nice to go heal a dungeon or two if I get that particular itch), but rolling for loot seems like such a foreign concept for me now whenever it makes an appearance.
I actually just came back from a break myself (left shortly after the Lost Shores Karka event) and I’m enjoying myself quite a bit.
The game isn’t too terribly different than it was a few months ago, with the exception of Fractals, Ascended gear, and Laurels (new reward currency for dailies/monthlies), so it shouldn’t be that hard to get back into the swing of things.
There wasn’t a ton of new content or anything, but just having those few months off definitely revitalized me and made me want to keep playing again.
I can definitely see this become a habit over the next few years.
Also, for your population question, I’ve been running into overflows quite a lot lately. I think it’s because of guesting, since you can jump on more/less popular servers for things that you need to do. Also, a lot of the dailies take place in specific areas of the map, so you’ll see a lot more people running around than usual in some of the more traditionally sparse areas when those dailies pop up. Which is nice.
It also looks like they added a couple little nice to have tweaks for things, even the personal story (if you’re Sylvari, they’ve added a scene where Trahearne and your character will actually acknowledge each other like they’ve met before, since they have).

Makes me miss my Froglock Wizard from Everquest.
D:
Which crafting disciplines do you level up?
Artificing, Jewelcraft, Cooking, then whatever craft I wanted the person to keep at max level.
I got everyone to level 70 via crafting a few months ago, though (just after the Lost Shores introduction) then took a break for a couple of months and came back, so prices for some things are a little different now.
I don’t know. I have a computer that runs everything at almost the highest settings just fine, but the game has crashed during certain events.
The most noticeable one was the Karka event awhile back. I put my graphics to minimum just so that I could do anything at all and it still crashed on me and sent me to overflow once I came back in.
That was kind of a poorly optimized event, though, so it might’ve just been that. I haven’t really crashed since then.
people always remember the times things happen, not the times they don’t.
If you’re out looking for exotics, you remember getting them all the time, so of course your estimate is higher. you might think to yourself: “I’ve found maybe 4 in recent memory, and recent memory is maybe 2 weeks, so I found 2 per week”, forgetting that 2 of those were from the mystic forge, and 1 of them was purchased off the TP.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for all the times you didn’t get an exotic, your general impression is that you haven’t gotten any in a long time, and you can remember 2 weeks back, so you get less than 0 from 2 weeks.
human memory is highly unreliable. Just ask Sammy Jenkins
I remember mine pretty clearly simply because I’ve put every exotic I’ve ever gotten straight into the bank so that I could use it with an appropriate character once they’ve leveled up. So, that amount is currently two exotics. :P
I have bought exotics for my other characters, though, I just haven’t had the heart to sell the only exotics I’ve ever had drop.
Oh, almost forgot. One of the tombstones is also a reference to the show Supernatural.
“Jahn Winchest
1250-1302 AD
Died protecting his two sons
Saving people was his family’s business”
Reference to Sam and Dean Winchester’s dad, John Winchester, who taught them to be Hunters like him.
Did anyone notice that the colorful versions of the “Hawkeye Griffons” near the Ascalon Settlement are colored similarly to the hero Hawkeye from the old Avengers comics?
Also, one of my favorite gravestones:
“Fahrun Pohster
1218-1236 AE
Got everything for free, never satisfied with what he got
We hope he’ll be happy with this plot.”
Fairly obvious reference to “Forum Posters” who can get everything they ask for and still complain about it. Also, the plot is probably the game plot as well.
Plus, note the date of birth and death. Fahrun Pohster is 18 or under, so it’s a jab at this particular form of poster being immature as well.

now, ready for the price? 98g- which isnt really that bad if you think about it.
Yikes!
I think I prefer my method. I level a character until they’re about level 30, since the beginning sections are easy, interesting, and decently populated, not to mention the personal story is still pretty good around that time. Usually takes a day or two.
Then I level 4 different crafts to 400. Usually takes about 3-4 hours and costs somewhere in the realm of 12 gold or less if you place buy orders for everything you need while doing the initial 30 levels. This gains 40-ish levels to get to level 70.
Then I just play normally after level 70, where everything is populated again and you get absurd amounts of XP just for hitting POIs and Waypoints on the way to wherever you’re going.
98 gold doesn’t seem worth it to me for a level 80 character, but I’ll gladly spend 12 gold or so to skip the relatively boring mid-levels of the game.
It depends on the skin. Some skins are HUGE while others are very tiny. It’s worse if you play a small character, though.
I’ve received… 2? Crystaline Blade and Handheld disaster, both from the Lost Shores Karka event. I was still 70-something at the time, so I probably would’ve received better if I’d actually been level 80.
Since then… nothing.
I can’t really complain, though, since I get lucky with other things. Like Halloween skins from Black Lion chests and such. Saving those up made more than enough money to just buy whatever I need.
Gelzar, the four armed dredge mutant out of the groznev delve sewers. Bam!
He makes a mean Borscht!
It’s already been suggested numerous times. I remember them saying that they’re working on it, but it’s not a critical, game-breaking thing, so it hasn’t really made the priority list yet.
Pay2save time is such an awesome term.
I concur! That’s pretty much exactly what it is.
Just quit for a few months.
I left shortly after the Karka events, stopped back briefly during Christmas to play the bell ringing mini game, and only just got back into the swing of things a few days ago. The game was starting to get really boring around the time that I left, but now it’s fun again.
I’m close to having all classes at 80 at the moment. I have 2 80’s currently (Warrior/Engineer) and the rest are at level 70.
The Engineer and Warrior I leveled the ‘old fashioned’ way, just going through the game and getting the Exploration Badge and such.
The other 6 I leveled normally until 30-ish, then maxed 4 crafts each with them so that I could skip the relatively boring middle levels (I had an excess of gold for awhile, so it worked out for me). Now that they’re all level 70, I’ve just been taking turns finishing up everyone’s personal stories and leveling up that way.
I have to say, the personal story is a lot more enjoyable when I can just do the whole thing in one big spurt, rather than having to spend 2-3 levels doing hearts just to see the next bit of it.
With these characters I am satisfied that I am enjoying the game more because of the flexibility and variety of game play that I experience. There’s a warm satisfying feeling I get when looking at the character selection screen and having the choice of playing any class I feel like playing. It keeps me in the game.
This is what I’m aiming for at the end. I’m looking forward to the day that I can just pick whatever class I want to play at any point in time and just jump into it. My Engineer is the only one decked out in Exotic+ right now, but eventually I want everyone geared up and ready to go.

Well, it only makes sense they’d release a name change since they have the Total Makeover kits with gender swap, now.
All of my characters have distinctly masculine or feminine names, so it’d be really weird to gender swap while keeping the opposite gender’s name.
While I can’t say that I empathize with your original point, I will say that certain characteristics of names seem to reflect certain characteristics of the players that choose them. Generally negative characteristics.
I agree with this. I play on the Unofficial RP server, so I prefer lore based names, but I don’t particularly care who I play with name wise if I’m just running around and not RPing.
Certain names still make me cringe, though. For example, I’ve played with characters named Snugglybear, Trick Trickster, and Snackpacks and had a great time. Conversely, I’ve played with characters named ‘dethscythe’ and ‘lorddragon’ before and had a terrible time. I also tend to shy away from anyone with any iteration of Drizzt or Sephiroth, though I’ve actually been seeing a lot less of that lately.
Speaking of which, were you trying to write “Denominator” …? Or is there something I’m missing?
I thought it was a mixture of “Dino” and “Dominator,” but I could just be thinking optimistically.
I tend to enjoy anything the Skritt say, but I especially enjoyed Rikkiti’s questline:
“Deputy, Deputy!”
“Yes, what is it Rikkiti?”
“Sheriff want shinies back. Rikkiti get shinies! Teach Hyleks stealing bad.”
“And did our ineffectual sheriff offer any thoughts on how precisely we might accomplish that?”
“Yes… no… what?”
“(sigh) Sheriff say how we get shinies back?”
“Oooh! Deputy talk like Rikkiti stupid! Rikkiti not stupid!”
“….”
“Sheriff not say how we get shinies back!”
Or, later on in the quest:
“Rikkiti! Procure the purloined goods!”
“Get shinies?!”
“Yes, yes, get shinies.”
“Shi-hi-hinyyy!”
Followed by that crazy adorable Skritt laugh.
Don’t do it. There’s nothing in there for the event. Just went through 173 BLCs and got jack for it.
Best way to drain candy corn is to buy it and eat it all! Imagine an infinite amount of (10 second) 10% speed boost!
If they made vomit an ethereal field and caused it to give debuffs to enemies caught in its spread, I’d certainly use it more!
By keeping things organized in one long thread it allows them to see the total impact.
This.
Post in one of the longer threads. Special snowflake threads do nothing but clutter up the forums and make people sick of you. I know you want to feel that YOUR voice is heard, but YOUR voice alone isn’t going to make an impact.
Your voice added to thousands of other voices shouting the same thing, that’s what makes an impact.
I really hate that Norn line:
“I pray to the Spirits of the Wild, but they rarely answer.”
Just drives me nuts, really.
Also, as a Minion Master Asura with the horribad Jagged Horror trait, I constantly hear the minion raising/minion dying comments in quick succession due to how quickly the Jagged Horror dies.
My guildmate nabbed Dusk. She was nearly incoherent over mumble.
She had JUST been complaining about how unlucky she was, too. The jerk. :P
This is what the gist of our overflow experience was!
We eventually got him, but we spent ENTIRELY too much time face down on the ground.
There are A TON more dead people than that picture shows, since it literally took out the entire zerg.
Still a blast, though.
Field Guides are pretty cheap. Exotic Trinkets also end up being pretty cheap, also.
Throw three level 78-80 exotic rings/amulets into the forge and you’ll get 2000 commendations.
Candy Corn Orichalcum Amulets seem to be the top way of doing it right now, since it’s a good way to get rid of candy corn (needs 150 per amulet) and it only requires 3 Exquisite Opals rather than the normal 5 (since the candy corn takes the place of the other opals).
Cheapest so far I found. 3 level 80 rare Field guides ~20s/each. ~65s for 300 commendations
cheers
Hmmm. I’m sure this WAS the cheapest earlier, but it looks like the word got out and the guides are selling for 40s+ now, which is about on par with just using exotics.
Well, crap. Just realized this was already translated on the Wiki. Oh well, at least it allowed me to brush up on my New Krytan. :\
Guess that’s what I get for starting to translate BEFORE looking things up on the wiki. Silly me.
So I got bored while waiting for the next phase of the Lost Shores to hit, so I kept myself entertained by translating the Karka Warning flyers that are posted all around Lion’s Arch.
For the curious, they say:
DANGER
ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK
Lion’s Arch Authorities cannot be held responsible for missing/stolen/damaged
and/or devoured appendages, small children, dinghies, fruit baskets, skritt,
pumpkin flavored marshmellows(sic), spoons, goofy hats, Ascalonian salads, pocket
watches, earrings, in-laws, Spirits of the Wild, eyepatches, war machines, Seraph,
rhubarb pies, mystical artifacts of unquestionable power, mystical artifacts of
questionable power, seeing-eye squirrels and carp.
Pretty sure that covers most of their bases. :P
Consider yourself lucky that your that far into the chain, most of us are stuck way back at Canach.
Canach is actually the end of one chain, while Fahd al’Eshadhi is the end of another chain. They’re both investigation quests, but unrelated to each other.
The Donation Packaging?
It’s selling for 3 silver right now. Hopefully people aren’t actually buying it from them, though.
I’m more interested in the fact that the ascended gear already posted is better than the exotic it is replacing.
that would make ascended weapons potentially statistically better than legendaries.
They’re boosting the legendary stats up to make up for that. Legendary stats will always be on par with the highest gear, no matter what other tiers are added.
Wait until the event actually starts tomorrow. They’re available as drops from doing the event. That alone, with how many people will be spamming the event, will either increase your chance of getting one, or drop the mini price significantly.
I want a Hylek before anything else.
As a former EQ Froglock Wizard, I would LOVE playable Hylek, actually.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t really seem like any of the ‘tribal’ species are going to become available (Hylek, Skritt, Quaggan, Ogre, Grawl).
Despite the cries of ‘Cliched Fantasy,’ I think the idea of the Largos would actually be quite entertaining to play.
And as someone already pointed out, we already pretty much have every fantasy cliche in existence. Just take a look at the TV Tropes page for GW2. :P
I can see it now. They add this race, then hear the people complain when they cant do jumping puzzles because they cant see. Also think about trying to do the Mad Kings Clocktower with one of these in front of you.
If the ‘wings’ are used for swimming, I think it would be rather cool if they folded up and just became unobtrusive protrusions on the back when they were on land and only spread out when they were actually underwater.
Would be a nice way to add some depth to the underwater content, since it’s currently more of a chore than something fun to do.
So, the game launcher is supposed to ask for an Authenticator code upon login, but it is not asking for it atm?
Look a couple of posts above you.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/news/879-remember-this-network-for-authenticator-users/
This might be why it’s not asked, if you log in from “secured network” which has been remembered by email authenticator.
On November 6th, they implemented their ‘remember this network’ protocol. So, if you selected remember this network, it won’t ask you for an authenticator code any more if you’re logging in from a remembered IP.
As a side note, if you selected ‘remember this network’ for the e-mail authentication, it’ll automatically apply it to the mobile authentication as well. Since I’d already authenticated my home computer via e-mail last month, it just assumed that I wanted it remembered for the mobile one as well.
Everything is still working and you’re still protected. You’re just not required to enter a code anymore if you’re logging in from a trusted environment.
I’d assume Chocolate as well, (Chocolate+Jug of Water+Sugar= Hot Chocolate Anyone?), but that’s plentiful so it’s not too big a deal.
I actually have a feeling that ‘mint’ won’t be too big a required ingredient, ‘cause I’d assume that Holiday Crafting item would probably be either Peppermints or Candy Canes, which would take the place of mint.
Apples might actually go up, ’cause Apple Cider is pretty holiday-ish. Anything used in the making of cookies would probably be applicable.
Ginger definitely (gingerbread men?). Mashed Potatoes? Wintersday Ham?
They also might have a Wintersday Cake of some sort that requires Red and Green Frosting (not sure what they’d make it out of).
Maybe an Omnomberry Angel/Star/Tree?
Hmmmm. Thanks! I’ll have to give that a shot when I get home.
Heya.
So, I’ve recently started getting very interested in the PvP aspects of GW2. For the last couple of days, I’ve been queuing up for hot join matches as well as free tournaments trying to get the hang of things.
Now that I’m more confident in my abilities, I’m kind of at a loss of where to go from here. I’ve been able to hold my own in hot join PvP matches, but my team gets absolutely stomped every time I try a free tourney. I’m assuming this is because I’m in a PuG and there’s almost zero coordination.
I’m curious how to go about finding a somewhat steady team for sPvP, since that seems to be the only way to really get ahead at the moment. I’ve had chats with people while in the Mists, but most of them didn’t seem particularly interested in teaming up for more than just a few matches. Most don’t even really talk at all, or were just waiting for their own teams to jump on.
I’ve tried asking around my guilds, as well as around my server in general, but interest in sPvP doesn’t really seem to be that high on Tarnished Coast. I also happen to be an avid Rper, though, so I’m not willing to change servers in order to ask around for PvP. Since server doesn’t really matter in the Mists, I wouldn’t think it was necessary either.
I guess I’m just really curious about how to go about finding a team? Is there a fansite somewhere out there specifically for sPvP and making teams? Should I try to just find and apply to a big, sPvP oriented guild and hope that I’m able to make something happen there?
For reference (if it matters), I usually play as an Engineer focused mainly on survivability, point defense, and team support through buffs, healing, and combo fields. I usually run healing bombs and super elixir with kit refinements for perma-light fields. I’ve survived pretty much indefinitely against up to 3 opponents. This obviously doesn’t really amount to much, though, when reinforcements never actually arrive (since I can’t actually kill anything) and I don’t have anyone else to support, which happens all too often in free tourneys.
Anyway, if you happen to see a short, red haired Norn Engineer named ‘Big Love Bomber’ give me a shout!
tl;dr – What’s the best way to find a steady team for sPvP tournaments?
Whatever this set is
And the hammer, too!
Just getting home from an awesome Halloween party, cracking open a twelve pack of Shocktop, and having a good mood and a relaxing atmosphere worked for me. Only took me about an hour to get through and I was laughing and enjoying myself the entire time. Getting frustrated rarely helps with anything.
It’s only bad when there are, like, 5 or 6 of them around the cauldron. Nothing like chained fears and dazes to really make you feel the love. :P
Yep!
The lovely young lady in the picture below is Tirzah Bauer.
Now look at that and tell me that isn’t the face of someone who desperately needs a cheeseburger!

Onshidesigns.1069I am just calling it what it is gambling!
Ack! Would you people go away! Like, to a thread that’s actually ABOUT people upset with the BLCs/MKs?
This was just a thread to find out if skins will be available next year.
You people don’t need to post in EVERY SINGLE THREAD. We get it already. There’s a 26 page thread about that very topic. Stickied. In Red. At the very top of the forums. Go complain there.
True. I briefly considered selling my Scythe immediately for some extra gold, but I think there’ll always be a pretty good market with Necros, since they’re lacking skins that fit the class motif. At least until someone figures out exactly how to get Final Rest.
I think the 4th letter is a Z not sure about that one letter though.
“TIRZAH WANTS A CHEESEBURGER”
Nice! That’s a much clearer picture. I think you’re right.
Would make sense, though, if it’s referring to Tirzah Bauer, who happens to be an Environment Artist for GW2. :P
Gah! I didn’t even look to see that in there. That’s going to drive me nuts. Having come from ‘The Secret World’ I have this compulsion to translate pretty much everything I come across.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to get in game for another 12 or so hours. Leaves me 4 hours or so to get back up to the top of that clocktower so I can actually see the thing. :\
