Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
Awesome! Thanks for that.
Gives me some time to level my alts a bit so they don’t get stomped in the Scavenger Hunt.
Blighton.6425my only question is will these chests be unlocked or locked requiring even more keys to be bought
Read the very first post in this thread. The big red Dev one.
Says “No keys are required for these chests.”

Zaxares already answered a lot of these, so I’ll expand on what wasn’t covered.
1) Crafting the Crossing.
Takes a lot of time and mats first of all. First things first, you have to throw the following items into the Mystic Forge.
250 Candy Corn| 100 Nougat Centers | 40 Bottles of Elonian Wine | 10 Crystalline Dust
This gets you the recipe for: Gift of Souls (level 400 Artificer)
To craft the Gift of Souls you need the following:
250 Oricalchum Ingots | 20 Globs of Ecto | 100 Charged Lodestones | 1 Gift of Knowledge (500 CoE Tokens)
This gets you the actual gift of souls item!
From there, to make the actual weapon, you’ll need to combine the following:
Gift of Souls | Ancient Staff Shaft | Ancient Staff Head | Orichalcum Inscription of your choosing.
Congrats! You’ve made ‘The Crossing!’
2) Personalized Trick-or-Treat bags. You can exchange Pieces of Candy Corn to the kids running around Lion’s Arch in costume in order to get them. You can exchange 10, 30, or 50 pieces. 50 pieces gets you 8 Personalized Trick-or-Treat bags.

Can the Gift of Moon be created after Halloween? Is the Skulls and Corn only temporary thing we have to collect?
Yes and yes.
See this post for more information:
AnthonyOrdonCraftable – There are a number of weapons that can be crafted from materials that come from Halloween content. They are exotic and they have their own stats. You can craft these at any time of the year, but there are certain components that will only drop during Halloween.
I’m just going to copy and paste my answer from another thread that asked a similar question.
Besides getting the ‘Gift of X’ recipe from the Mystic Forge, everything else you need to craft it is just ordinary materials.
To get the “Gift of X”, you need to put 250 Candy Corn, 100 Chattering Skulls(Shield)/Nougat Centers(Staff)/Plastic Fangs(Shortbow), 40 Bottles of Elonian Wine, and 10 Crystalline Dusts into the Mystic Forge.
After you get the “Gift of X” recipe, everything else doesn’t require any Halloween related materials, so you can craft it at your leisure later.
So, yes, you can craft it after the event.

Yep. For the larger weapons, they shrink when they’re on your back.
I think it’s most noticeable with the Asura. I’ve been using the Halloween staff for my Asura necromancer and the staff literally doubles in size the second I draw it.
Makes sense, though, since the staff actually clips into the ground when I’m running with it out. I could only imagine the clipping if it was normal sized on my back. Not to mention how far up above my head the staff would stick out.
Owned by the sunken costs fallacy.
Haha, I won’t deny that. In my head I was just like, “You know, you really should just stop now” but then that little devil on my shoulder just kept going, “But it could be in, like, the very next bag! Think of all the money you just wasted if it is!”
I knew I shouldn’t have fired that little Angel fella that keeps me in check, but I couldn’t afford keeping him around AND buy gems from ANET. :P
Eck. Well, thanks for that! Kind of sucks. I mean, as far as staves for Necro characters go, it’s still pretty good, but they could’ve done more with it.
But, alas, it’s not a Greatsword, so I’m not sure why I got my hopes up. :P
One more bump before I just let this die, since more people should have the Scythe Skin by now (hopefully).

Haha, well, I honestly don’t even NEED the endless tonic anymore, I have so many temporary ones it’s insane. At least 100 of each. I wish I could Mystic Forge them into something useful now that I have the Endless Tonic.
sorry if i was rude, i really like the game. more love it. so for this reason i’m angry. coz now i have to restart everything again.
maybe i’m so angry coz i know that the investment it was done by myself, and hurt when you fail bi like this time, but i fell also stupid oz i never tough that areanet would really help people, for another sidei fell proud of playing this game, i’m optimistic but angry of mysel and the situation, kind of complicated. sorry for my personal flame!
Yeah, I’m in the same boat. Bought Black Lion Keys, didn’t get anything, so I saved up my gold and outright bought the skins. 78 some odd gold for the skins that I wanted. That’s a good chunk of change (most of my gold, actually).
Worst of all, due to not having a preview, I don’t even LIKE two of the skins I got, so I was hoping to resell later when the prices went back up. If the drop rate increases any at all, I basically just tossed away that gold.
I mean, this is great for the gamblers, but it sucks for everyone who went the route of buying their skin.
The gamblers are much more numerous, though, so we’re out of luck unless we can get a thread with 2k replies complaining about this. Seriously doubt it.
I’m curious. Are there really only four forms for this Tonic?
I’ve only been able to get Candy Corn Golem, Plastic Spider, Glow-In-The-Dark Skeleton, and Mummy.
Does it work like the other Endless tonics and have 4 or so common forms, with the chance of a few rarer forms?
It’s a little disappointing if it’s just those 4. I mean, it’s still fun (AND ENDLESS!!!), but it seems like it’s lacking a bit.
You would think it wouldn’t take this much, but then I just got mad. Especially when you’re doing it and hear in map chat people getting it in less than 1% of the bags you tried. Repeatedly.
I know how you feel. Someone linked the Endless Tonic in map chat, so I looked it up online and the first thread I found had people getting it anywhere between 10 bags (luckiest) and 600 (unluckiest, or so I thought). So, I did the math, figured 7.5 gold (the price for 15 stacks of Candy Corn at the time) was worth a piece of fun halloween memorabilia.
2376 bags later and I finally got it. I remember just doubling down and doubling down and doubling down. Once you get a certain amount of coin into it, you kind of feel like you HAVE to get it, otherwise it feels like you just threw away all of that money. I just kept going back to the trading post and successively buying more and more stacks of candy corn. I opened the last 1000 some odd bags I got in a row ’cause I purchased A TON of candy corn. I got it when I only had, like, 28 bags left in my inventory. It really is an abysmal chance.
If you weren’t already so invested in it, to the point where I’m not sure if you’ll stop, I’d tell you that it wasn’t worth it.
It gives you four (FOUR?!!!!) random forms you can change into. Candy Corn Golem, Mummy, Glow-in-the-Dark Skeleton, and Plastic Spider. If it had the Ghost transform in there (the only one I ACTUALLY WANTED) then I might’ve considered it more worthwhile, but at the moment, it’s literally a joke.
Totally got tricked on Halloween.
Dittos on the no Halloween music.
Honestly, I have the music interval set to ‘short’ and I almost hardly hear ANY music, let alone Halloween music.
The only music I’ve heard at all so far is the normal Krytan Overworld theme and the Order of Whispers mission theme in those quests.
I wonder if ‘shortest interval’ doesn’t mean what we think it means. Either that or the music is just really, really, really, really subtle.
Or, you know, it’s bugging out.
They really just need a ‘continous’ option where the music keeps playing. It’s quiet entirely too often in my travels.
sigh I knew I should’ve waited on buying skins. That’s probably 78 gold down the drink. If the droprate is still just as low, I might be able to get back my investment in some 6 odd months when skins are scarce, but if they increase at all, then I’m kittened.
With the outcry on the forums, the chances of them having increased the droprate is almost guaranteed.
This is why I never invest. Something always pops up to screw it over. -.-
ReginaBuenaobra.6953:Hey, everyone. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the team has taken on board your feedback and concerns.
We’d recommend not throwing away or selling the items you’ve been receiving in the Black Lion Chests, as we’ll be providing ways in which those items can be used to obtain Halloween-related items…
We’ll have further updates when they become available.
Thank you again for all your feedback.
Well, hell. I really hope that they’re DIFFERENT Halloween based items, since I made the “smart” decision to just spend my savings on outright buying some of these skins.
Those superior runes look pretty cool tho. Wonder what that raven effect looks like with Dagger Storm. c.c
Raven effect? O.o
I’m planning on grabbing the recipes, then crafting them all later.
I’ll probably have all of them by, oh, let’s say next Halloween. X.x
The Gourd Rifle Skin is 3.5 gold right now.
The Severed Arm Dagger Skin is 4.27 gold
Chainsword is 6.66 gold ( O.o!!!)
The Deathly Shoulders range anywhere from 1 gold to 3 gold.
These aren’t exactly super high unattainable prices. They’ve also been falling consistently, so they’ll probably be much cheaper closer to the end of the event.
If you want a souvenir to show you participated, go grab one of those.
If what you really want is the super cool Halloween skins (Chainsaw, Scythe, Grinning Shield) on the cheap, you’re just going to have to find a way to convince the playerbase that they really aren’t as cool as people make them out to be, ’cause rarity+demand is driving the price.
Souvenirs, however, are easy enough to come by. Super cool weapon skins? Not so much.
I will admit, though, that I was expecting more attainable weapons for all, but people can still walk away with something. It might not be the Chainsaw of Death, but it’s still a Halloween related item.
Full Disclosure, one of the Black Lion Chests I got gave me a Scythe skin. I also blew my savings purchasing a Grinning Shield. So, it’s definitely in my best interest for supply/demand to stay as it is right now.
I dunno. Maybe give out a permanent trinket that turns you into a skeleton? Or spawns a pumpkin that spews out Mad King jokes?
The thing is, though, I think people would complain even more if other, cheaper skins were released in the Gem Store. If they were better looking than the ‘rare’ skins, then people with those skins would complain. If they were worse looking, then you’d still get people rallying against ANET being a ‘MONEY GRUBBING CORPORATION ARRRRGGGHHH!!!!’ and complaining that they can’t have good weapon skins.
Woot! I actually got lucky for once. I normally work Sundays, but I happened to get this particular Sunday off since I’ll be going to a Zombie Beer Crawl the night before so I didn’t want to go to work hungover.
Now the trick will be sleeping off the booze before the event actually starts. >.>
The fun part of costume brawl is the fact you can do it anywhere
This ^
I was wandering around Gendarran Fields shirtless, wearing black pants with red string, and had my boxing gloves on, just ’cause I could.
It was then that I spotted someone else jogging down the way. Lo’ and behold, it was another boxer! Dressed exactly like me (but with white pants with blue string).
We spotted each other, stopped for a moment and stared, I cheered, then we started an epic boxing match for the ages!!!
I ended up losing, but it was still one of the most fun/random moments I’ve had in game!
Makes me want to organize a boxing tournament somewhere. >.>
Basically you make the two parts of the weapon like you’re making an exotic, then you add those, an orichalcum imbued inscription, and the gift to make the weapon.
I.E.
Gift of Spiders+Hardened String+Ancient Shortbow Stave+Inscription = Arachnaphobia
Gift of Souls+Ancient Staff Shaft+Ancient Staff Head+Inscription = The Crossing
Gift of the Moon+Orichalcum Shield Backing+ Orichalcum Shield Boss+Inscription = Whatever the moon shield is called.
Yeah. I’ve seen a picture of it, but nothing of it in action.
I kind of just want to bite the bullet and try it, but it really doesn’t fit any of my characters at the moment and, from what I keep hearing, prices for it should rise after the halloween event, so I don’t just want to offload it now.

I usually trust everyone in an MMO with crafting things (besides EvE which allows scamming lol). Mainly because scamming is illegal in most MMO’s, including this one. Someone scams you, report them, simple as that.
But yeah…get the mats and you can get the skin any time lol.
Actually… ANET’s took a stance where they don’t get involved in ANY personal transaction between players. Someone scams you, you’re out of luck. There’ve been quite a few threads where people have lost mats trying to get Legendaries crafted and ANET has basically told them, “Well, that’s your fault for not using the Trading Post.”
Anyway, best bet? Get a guildie to do it. Or, you know, do it yourself. I plan on getting my crafts up eventually anyway.
They’ve said that if it becomes popular, they’re thinking of expanding it as a mini game.
I think it’d be fun if they made it’s own little underground fighting arena, kind of like Keg Brawl.
I think the absurd EVERYONE FOR THEMSELVES!!!! style is just a test run to see how popular Costume Brawl gets.
I actually love the set up in Lion’s Arch. I agree that I just kind of wandered around aimlessly watching the costume brawl chaos at first. The ‘quest givers’ for Halloween are quite obviously marked with a giant pumpkin over their heads, though, as well as Halloween vendors being marked with candy corn, so it was simple enough to figure out.
A simple mail ‘nudge’ towards Lion’s Arch WOULD be helpful, though
I got not one, but two Scythe skins in the first 5 chests that I opened (I only had, like, 8 keys laying around).
Of course, this then prompted the gambler in me to purchase about 50 some odd more keys which amounted to nothing.
Still, from reading the forums, 2 skins in 70 something chests (some of the chests had extra keys in them) is actually pretty kitten lucky. I read someone posting the odds to get items from chests was somewhere in the realm of 1 out of 500 per skin. So, a 1.2% chance to get one of the six available skins. So, a little better than a 1 in 100 shot.
So, yeah, if you have notoriously bad luck, just save up some gold and buy them straight out. The Scythe was 38 gold when I went to sleep this morning, but it’s been steadily dropping, so it’ll probably be a more decent price by the end of the event.
It’s your choice rather to buy it straight out, or to risk gambling for it.

Costumes that you buy on the TP stick around. Potions you make/buy stick around.
Anything that you buy, make, or find is going to stick around. The only thing that disappears is you’ll no longer be able to get the resources to make them.
I.E. At the end of the event, the candy corn/fangs/skulls or whatnot that you find won’t disappear, but you won’t actually be able to find anymore until next year.
So, if you picked up a bunch of 400 crafting recipes and you’re not 400 yet, better pick up the materials to craft everything you’d want now!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Costume-Brawl-for-All
I hate to bump my own thread, but… has nobody gotten this yet? I’ve seen it just on someone’s back. I was curious if anything happened while it was wielded. Like, smoke, or a trail, or something.
Also, does anybody know if it works well with the Necro black glowy Scythe that pops up whenever they use Staff skills?
It took me FOREVER to realize that those jokes were coming from the costume. I didn’t figure out until I actually bought the costume myself and started using the costume brawl abilities. I kept wandering around Lion’s Arch look for a TV with a random floating head telling jokes, ’cause the weird static/radio-y sound of the voice made me think of that.
I personally love the jokes! Cracks me up. Especially how the ‘daze’ the enemy in Costume Brawl. :P
They saw ‘New Weapons’ and automatically assumed it was pertaining to the new craftable weapons and/or BLC skins that everyone has been arguing about since the patch released.
Blame a long night of rapid fire moderation.
Forget Eagle Raptors!
Witches get an ability where they ‘melt’ which ticks continuous damage to people near them while also making the witch INVINCIBLE. A Witch just needs to jump into the middle of a bunch of brawler, melt, then watch the points roll in!
Nerf Witches! Buff Boxing!
:P
Just curious. I got the Scythe skin and it looks pretty cool on it’s own, but it’s a little plain compared to the Greatsaw and the Shield. I haven’t actually used the skin yet, though.
I was curious if it had any sort of effect when you were wielding it that doesn’t show up on the preview? I’m considering selling it for a Greatsaw if it doesn’t have any sort of effect, ‘cause a Scythe doesn’t really fit any of my characters at the moment.
Hey, does anyone know if the Scythe has any effects when used? Or is it just a plain old Scythe?
I got one out of the Black Lion Chests, but I don’t know if I want to keep it or sell it. If it’s got an effect of some sort besides just being a Scythe, I’ll probably keep it. If not, I think I’ll sell it and buy a Greatsaw.

This is what you want to read!
Apparently, they’ve been adapting the Tonics for use with the costume brawl.
Even better, they’re making it so that they’ll still be useable for that purpose, even after Halloween!
Here’s the relevant bits:
The animal tonics from Black Lion Chests already out there will include brawl skills so anyone with keys from playing their personal story or looting monsters can participate! Mystic tonics and animal tonics are all included. The Boxing Gloves, Cook’s Frying Pan, Pirate Wooden Sword from the Gem Store will all be updated and tweaked to work with Costume Brawl.
Halloween costumes will be unavailable to purchase once Halloween is over, but the brawl will continue to work and the fun will go on with existing costumes and tonics.
Scythe is pretty nifty, actually!
I found that problem, too. I ended up with getting a Grinning Shield thing from the Chest, but my Warrior doesn’t use shields and my Guardian wouldn’t be caught dead with it.
Soo… my Warrior now uses shields! It is a pretty awesome skin.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, as luck would have it), I’m at work right now, so I have no choice but to wait patiently, seeing as even if the event started right this minute, I still wouldn’t be able to play it until midnight tonight, Pacific time.
Even so, I remember logging in last night a little after midnight expecting the patch, didn’t see it, and I didn’t freak out about it. I actually went to sleep. When I woke up, I played some before work, thinking that the patch would hit before I left. Of course, it didn’t hit then either.
Would I have liked to have played some of the patch before I went to work today? Of course! It’s crazy how up and arms people are getting, though. It’s just like in Beta when the servers didn’t IMMEDIATELY open at the appropriate time. You’d get a thousand players suddenly posting the same exact thing all at once, most of whom hadn’t posted a single constructive thing before that. :\
Anyway, enough of that… CAKE! Evil, evil pumpkin Cake!
Lucky for me, I just leveled up a gremlin Asura Necro!
Totally going to stir up some mischief.
Ooooh, not very expensive Karma-wise either. I was worried about that!
The only non-serious name that I had for awhile was ‘Charrfield Rarbuckle.’ The Charr even looked like Garfield on steroids!
As a side note, I tried several of the names from this MST3K video and they were all taken!
MST3K – Space Mutiny – The many names of David Ryder
Thick McRunfast! Bolt Vanderhuge! Slate Slabrock!
Wintyr.1780i got combat medic while playing my warrior somehow
You get that under ‘community’ by rezzing people 1000 times.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Seems like A LOT of work for the slayer achievements. I think I’ve only killed one giant so far and they ask for 1000 (or was it 5000?). And 5000 deathblows with a shield?!
Yeah, they need something for doing that.
The ‘full’ status tends to fluctuate. If you wait until off peak hours, it’ll usually switch to ‘high’ instead and allow you to make a character there.
I haven’t seen any big RP developments on Stormbluff Isle, so your best bet might be to hang out on your server, then transfer during a time when Tarnished Coast isn’t showing ‘full.’
Sweet!
Well, at least I’ll have some reading material at work while everyone else is enjoying Halloween. :P
They’re releasing new content for you players that pushed to 80. New dungeons, events, that sorta stuff.
Halloween’s for everyone. Especially since it’s a limited time only. Everything else is for you guys at 80.
It takes me roughly 2.5 to 3 hours to level an alt to 10, complete the level 10 personal story, and get a key. Fastest I’ve done it is roughly 2 hours with a Ranger.
So, one key every 2 to 4 hours if you’re really hard up for cash.
Current prices of gold to gems was just over 1 gold for 125 gems (enough for a key). I’ve heard plenty of times on the forums that you can grind up a gold in Orr in about an hour.
So, there’re a couple options available if you can’t actually buy a key.
So, up to you if you want to put in that effort. Keys with cash cost $1.57 each (or $1.13 with the five pack).
People kept complaining that they’d buy keys if something valuable were in them. Now they’re complaining about having to buy them once something of value is actually present in them.
Actually, that would be very nice!
Doubt they’ll put up notes until after the patch, though, since it might spoil some Halloween goodies.
Or they might be making last minute tweaks to things.
ArenaNet seems to be very stubborn about spilling the beans about the Halloween event. :P
Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll happily tell us all of the things that we missed once the event is over. :P
I’m sure GW2 will be around for many years to come, so I wouldn’t worry about missing one little festival (no matter how awesome it’s going to be!). If it were me, I’d ask my guildies if they could save me some festival stuff so I could still have a little fun after it’s over. Maybe enough to craft a few festive weapons or something. Assuming the mats are Soulbound… which would make me sad.
This. ^
I’m a Veteran myself and I know how much of a pain it is to miss out on some of these events due to being overseas, or doing some sort of training, or doing something else that makes your Country a safer place.
You probably won’t make it in time to see all the decorations and such, but I’m sure there’ll be videos or streams that you could watch to get the feel of the whole thing. I know it’s not the same, but at least it’ll give you an idea about what was going on.
And since the materials stay put after the event, just ask some guildies if they can keep some materials, or craft you a special Halloween item or two. I’m pretty positive that people will be posting information about how to get things as they get them, so if something catches your fancy, shoot a message to your favorite guildmate and ask if they can grab it for you.
Hopefully it won’t be too rare or incredibly hard to obtain.
I actually appreciate that he asked those questions.
I like playing the game and discovering things, but since we’re on a time limit and I’m doing a bunch of stuff this year that doesn’t in anyway involve playing the game, I like to have a good idea of what I’ll be able to accomplish and what I need to do to accomplish it in time.
If I only have one shot at this stuff this year, I want to know what I should be prioritizing in order to get it. So far, the Halloween staff (not sure if it’s Black Lion or Crafted) is the only goal that I have ‘cause it’s the only solid piece of information I have available.
Would be nice to know if I have a shot at getting some of these things, or if I should just save up gold to buy them from other people. It’ll also be nice to know if I can just get the materials to craft everything, buy the recipes, then take my time actually getting my crafting skills up to the required level in order to craft everything, or if I’ll be required to get max crafting in the next few days.
I’ve been taking my time in every other aspect of the game (I have 8 characters at level 30-40, ‘cause I’ve been splitting time evenly between them), but now that I have a time limit, casual discovery has to go on the backburner for a bit.
