Sick and tired of spamming 1 to hit the cage?

Ctrl + right click on the attack icon of the stick = auto attack win!

you are all welcome

Holy crap, you just saved my fingers. I usually have to make some weird claw shape with my left hand whenever I get to those cages so that I can strafe, jump, and attack at the same time. This makes things loads easier.

I’ve had this happen a couple of times to me. Sometimes the last bauble pops up in a different position than it should be and becomes impossible to actually grab.

The “mine cart” bonus zone of World 1 reminds me of the bonus level on Street Fighter 2 where you had to smash up the car

Yes! That was the first thing that came to mind when I started breaking the cart into little pieces.

Some of the music reminded me of Sonic the Hedgehog, actually.

I do all 3 zones ‘cause I have the whole thing pretty much down. I also run all three zones ’cause, while it’s faster to just run zone 1 and 2 when you’re using an already created character, you run out of those pretty quickly, so I run the extra zone to get the most out of each character before I have to start making new ones.

If you want RP, you’ll have to find yourself an RP guild or just hook up with others that RP.

Awesome! Thanks for posting this.

I was planning to get it already, since I’ve been collecting pretty much every sort of transformation potion available. I started late, though, so I only have 40-ish laurels. X.x

Anyway, I’m an avid RPer, so things like this really help out for certain characters and scenes. I have one character that just RPs as another Elementalist’s snarky Elemental summons using the charged, hard, cold, and warm potions. The cat potion just opens more doors for other fun things.

I was just mentioning this to my guild.

They don’t even have to make the specific character all retro. Just when you go into the Super Adventure Box, you get a sprite specific to your race and gender.

Maybe color code them if there’s more than one of that race or gender. It could be akin to Gauntlet styling!

Remove low health sound effect from SAB

in Suggestions

Posted by: MikeRocks.9243

MikeRocks.9243

I like the sound effect in normal gameplay, as it’s really audibly striking when you get low on health and everything starts to blur together and you get that wind tunnel sound effect.

It doesn’t work so well in the Super Adventure Box, though, since losing a single heart results in that wind tunnel sound effect and it usually lasts until you find some food from a random enemy since you don’t regenerate health.

I just find it sort of distracting in the SAB. If might work better if it was set to trigger at just one heart, or maybe even half a heart remaining. As it is now, I just hear it too often and for too long a period of time.

Thanks!

8 80s - What to do now?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: MikeRocks.9243

MikeRocks.9243

So now that I have eight level eighty characters (one of each class), what is there to do?

The answer is, obviously, to get more characters to 80!

My goal at the moment is to have a max level character of every race, armor class, and gender, so roughly 30 level 80 characters.

I love making and leveling alts. :P

Anyway, the serious answer would be… well, take a break. I finished leveling my first set of 80’s about three months ago and found I was more relieved than excited. After puttering around for a bit and farming here and there for my Legendary, I decided I was burned out and set the game aside for awhile. I came back to enjoy Wintersday briefly, but didn’t play any content seriously.

I just came back for real at the beginning of March and fell in love with it all over again. I was actually excited to play it again and started up a whole new batch of alts.

Since this is a free game, that’s kind of the way it’s set up. They’re constantly making new content, so it seems like it’s expected that you’ll drop off for awhile, only to come back when something occurs that renews your interest.

They’re working pretty hard at keeping the greatsword price up. 40 gold vs. 50 Bauble Bubbles? Hopefully it catches up to them and they get a nice financial burn for trying to gate off content from other users to enrich themselves.

It’s pretty easy to get 40 gold. 50 Bauble bubbles take time.

50 bauble bubbles took me roughly 2 1/2 hours to get.

If you compare the time it took to get those and equate that to the 40 gold price, I was making about 16 gold an hour. Seems like a pretty good rate to me.

Literally no one here would have expected this to be statistically accurate in the first place. Of course he’s spot on, just as everyone else is spot on, but they didn’t feel the need to voice the obvious. It’s simply a curiosity thing, get over yourself.

Then what you’re saying is that this is just a RNG kitten session disguised as science?

I can accept that.

Anyway, I had about 8 keys laying around and finally finished some of the personal story stuff for my characters, so I ended up with about 12 keys, which then turned into 18 keys due to gettings keys from the chests themselves. I didn’t get any of the skins, but I wasn’t really expecting to. I was surprised to get a Total Makeover Kit, though. It’s fun to gender swap your character and see what the results are.

Statistically inaccurate

Surveying forums leads to massive biases including Sample Bias and Response Bias. In this case there are at least 3 other biases not being accounted for off the top of my head.

Soulbound -> Account Bound BLTC Conversion

in Suggestions

Posted by: MikeRocks.9243

MikeRocks.9243

If I were to transmute it into say, a white Greatsword, it’s still Soulbound through the Transmution Stones.

This isn’t true. It SAYS it’ll be soulbound due to the transmutation stone, but after you use the stone, the item actually becomes account bound.

Unless they just made they just updated it within the last three hours that I did this, or if it’s only the case for cultural armor.

I just deleted one of my Sylvari Elementalists that had a mix of T2 and T3 cultural, but I didn’t want to lose the pieces, so I transmuted them all onto white pieces of armor. After everytime I transmuted a piece, it said “Account Bound” rather than “Soul Bound” so now I have a bunch of account bound cultural armor sitting in my bank.

I think one of the more interesting bits (arguably) about this, is how it actually does increase demand.

There’s a part of our lizard brains that want these skins even more, because they are so rare.

I mean, I gotta admit, if this was a skin I could work toward (like the similar destroyer skins, or the conjure axe skin), I’d probably say – meh – I’ll go for something else, from an aesthetic perspective.

And yet, I have found myself compelled to want one – because – well…

When I really think about it. Why was that again?

Seriously fascinating stuff, here.

Or maybe I’m just finally getting drunk.

= |

That’s a very good point, actually.

I remember during the similar Halloween chest fiasco, I desperately wanted the Greatsaw and the Ghastly Grinning Shield. I got them both, Greatsaw from an unholy amount of chests and the Shield I bought on the TP, but then couldn’t decide who I wanted to use them on, since it didn’t fit any of my characters. I also suffered from not wanting to chose just one character to use it on, especially since it was rare and hard to obtain, so I ended up not even choosing any of them.

Five months later I was looking at them in my bank going, “Why did I want these again?” I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love the look of them, but at the time I think I only wanted them ‘cause they were new and ’rare.’ After I got over that, I was kind of meh about the whole thing. So I sold them both.

Same deal here. They’re cool weapon skins and the daggers would fit my Elementalist pretty well, but I really only have the urge to get them ‘cause they’re rare and otherwise unobtainable.

Allow Endless Mystery Tonics to be sold on TP

in Suggestions

Posted by: MikeRocks.9243

MikeRocks.9243

Since the holiday versions of the Endless Tonics (Halloween/Toymaker/Dolyak) are unbound and capable of being sold, I was curious if there were any plans to give the same treatment to the Endless Mystery Tonics from the Black Lion chests?

Since the permanent versions of other rare items (Black Lion Merchant/Bank Access/BLTC Pickup/Hair Stylist) are already able to be traded, it would make sense for the permanent tonics to also be traded.

I adore the transformation tonics and currently have all of them that are available besides the new cat potion (which I’m getting once I get enough laurels) and the Endless Mystery Tonics (not for lack of trying, I’ve opened 200+ chests), so a more reliable way to obtain these tonics would be incredible. Not to mention that there are plenty of players who have opened chests to try to get skins and such, only to get the Endless Mystery Tonics that they’ll never use and would be more than willing to trade for gold instead.

RIP Kit Refinement

in Engineer

Posted by: MikeRocks.9243

MikeRocks.9243

y’all are aware that you can press a kit keybind (q for medkit, for example), and regardless of kit state (equipped or stowed) and receive the KR proc, right? this means that it doesn’t matter when you hit the kit keybind, so every 20 seconds you can just activate whatever kit for the KR proc. it works like on swap sigils.

so what’s all the kittening about with omg I have to micromanage when I hit my key kitten about?

at worst, you have to count to 20 (or 10 twice if you cannot see your toes), and then get any proc you want.

Have you even played with multikit?
If you’re not switching them as needs demand (need being what the weapon skills from the kit are, not necessarily the KR) then you’re not doing it right.
And now, if you do that, you’ll fire KRs on kits you don’t particularly want the effect from while disabling the effect from another kit you want the effect from.

Also, no visual indicator on the recharge of something with such an impact on how you play is absurd.

Also, I play a support Engineer based around kit CC and heals/cleanses. The change from Super Elixer proc to Glue Trail really screws up my build.

I can handle counting to 20 when I have something worthwhile to fire off. Since I no longer do, I’ve just turned to grenade spec like the good little cookie-cutter Engineer that ANET wants me to be.

You realize that this is probably more of a giant gold sink than a cash grab?

I’m sure a ton of people are spending a lot of real money to get those keys, but I’m sure there are a lot more that are using the gold to gem exchange to buy the keys instead.

Either way, it’s good for ANET. Either they make some quick cash from the gem store, or they get rid of a ton of gold from the game.

Perhaps it is a good gold sink for farmers, but it hurts casual and slightly less casual players who do not want to spend real money on lottery tickets on a game they can play only on the perhaps short free time they have.

True, but I don’t think ANET is aiming for the casual crowd with this. The less super rich people they have in their game, the better it is for them. Plus, the casual gamers that are poor are more likely to buy the gems with cash, which also helps ANET.

Anyway, with it being roughly 2.75g at the moment for 100 gems, it costs 3 gold 43 silver per key if you buy them individually. I’d say every key bought with gold is a win for ANET when it comes to leveling off the uber rich in the economy.

I understand the concept of the casino. How would this concept work for a store that would sell durable goods like clothing and electronics?

This is akin to those promotions you see in the mall sometimes where you buy a pair of sneakers or something and get your name put into a random draw to see if you win a shiny new car.

You basically bought a couple of boosts, a gathering tool, a salvage kit, and maybe a mystic potion (random assortment of each) while basically putting your name in for a chance to win that new car.

This is pretty much the same exact system they had at Halloween, except that you no longer have the option to sell the skin, but in exchange you’re able to choose exactly which skin you want.

Halloween weapons future

MikeRocks.9243

i want The Crossing but at the moment im focusing on getting all my toons kitted out with exotic armor….

but 40g+ for anything but a precursor is silly i think

The Crossing, The Mad Moon, and Arachnophobia can all be crafted with the still plentiful Halloween materials, so those at least will be around for awhile and should also be worth selling if you happened to buy them when they were “cheap.”

For the other skins… If it’s a skin you don’t particularly want (for instance, I have a Greatsaw that doesn’t fit any of my characters that I’m planning on selling) then keep them around for another couple of months then sell. It should still be a few months before people start thinking about Halloween, so they’re more likely to actually buy the skin than to wait until Halloween actually hits to see if the skins get reused.

If it’s a skin you like, then just keep it. You don’t HAVE to sell everything. I bought a Ghastly Grinning Shield when it was, like, 19g and now it’s over 200g. I like the look of it, though, so I’m keeping it, even though I haven’t applied it to a character yet.

If you bought it expressly for the purpose of selling it, well, you have to make that call. Most of the Halloween skins have at least tripled their going rate since Halloween. Find a profit margin you’re happy with and go with that. If you wait too long and the DO release the same Halloween skins, then you’ve basically shot yourself in the foot if you’re looking for cash.

I have a feeling that they’ll release the same skins this coming Halloween with drop rates similar to what we’ve seen for the Lost Shores and Wintersday skins, while making new skins that are purchasable only through the BLTC. Probably as a way to appease the incredible outcry against the skins only appearing in Black Lion Chests last year.

That’s just my opinion, though.

As long as it doesn’t wind up like a glorified gathering node, but in water. It shouldn’t just be a shiny spot in the water that I cast into for half a second then pull out a fish like I’m picking strawberries.

Whats the next playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MikeRocks.9243

I think I remember there being a post at some point that none of the ‘tribal’ races were going to be made playable (Ogre, Grawl, Hylek, Skritt, Quaggan) as much as I’d love to have EQ Froglock flashbacks with the Hylek.

I think the most likely new races will be Kodan, Largos, and Tengu. Since they’re somewhat rare and stick to their own areas outside of the current game map, it’d be easier to just tack on one of their zones to the current map without causing too much fuss.

Tengu seems to be the most likely, followed closely by Kodan. Largos is probably just a rumor, though it would be a fun race to play, I think.

I have 76 at the moment, which I think is the max for not missing any and getting the extra ones after the updates. Can’t wait to get 24 more and my cat tonic

I’m only at 13 or so laurels right now, but that tonic is at the top of my list.

I’m a complete addict for those. >.>

Please, no. I don’t want any more abominations like Rox. It’s just absolutely disgusting.

From The Razing Page:

Rox—a charr ranger lacking a warband—

From the screenshot… it’s pretty easy to see why her warband abandoned her. I can only imagine waking up in the field with those huge green eyes staring at me.

It looks like the Charr version of the Overly Attached Girlfriend meme.

Also don’t forget about the term “Cat Burglar”!

Well, to be fair, they’re BIG kitties and mixed with bulls it looks like, so “Bull in a China shop” also comes to mind.

Charr thieves are easy enough to imagine, though. Doesn’t anyone remember Clawspur from the Charr intro? He’d totally sneak up and garrote you!

The charr even had special text written if they ran across an asuran ranger. Paraphrased. I have never seen an asuran ranger, and you reply yeah we are rare" I found that out in the beta weekends. It’s a fun contrast when the pets are bigger than the master.

I have an Asuran ranger!

She uses two drakes named Snuggles and Snogs.

It’s pretty adorable.

What Is Depth?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MikeRocks.9243

MikeRocks.9243

Personally, for PvE at least, GW2 is about on the level of depth as most other MMOs. Sure, you get a lot of choices for skills and weapons and such, but you don’t get many MEANINGFUL choices. GW2 is built in a way where it’s pretty much impossible NOT to succeed. The only effect your choices have is how quickly you clear something, not IF you’ll clear something.

Given this is a casual game, though, it’s fine for what it is. It’s not very deep, but it’s also not very complex. You don’t HAVE to buy into stat min/maxing in order to succeed. For people who don’t want to do mental calculus every time they get a new weapon, it’s good.

GW2 stats, skills, and traits don’t add depth. What they DO add, is flavor.

Just because you can live entirely off of potatoes and water for every meal doesn’t mean it’s not enjoyable to add a steak to that, or some butter or chives, or a glass of wine to the meal.

GW2 let’s you succeed with the bare minimum so that you’re free to add whatever flavors you want to the mix and still succeed, with the only difference being time it takes to succeed.

It’s not particular deep or complex, but it’s still enjoyable, which I think is the core thing you should be looking for anyway, right?

Anyway, this is all just for PvE. PvP and WvW are completely different beasts.

I think it goes Warrior -> Guardian -> Mesmer -> Thief -> Elementalist -> Ranger -> Necromancer -> Engineer.

It depends on which area of the game you’re in (PvE, sPvP, WvW, etc.), but that seems to be the trend.

Best Builds for PVE by Profession

Magical math was done and it was discovered that the Hammer actually has more damage over an extended period of time due to the Symbol of Protection combo and the frequency of Mighty Blow. That’s not counting how great 5 second blast finishers and 50% Protection up-times are. The Greatsword is still better at spiking and Binding Blade is still one of the best CCs in the game, but as far as extended boss fights go it’s a choice between the Hammer and Sword rather than the Greatsword.

Refreshing to hear someone knows his stuff.
There are way too many GS Guardians around PvE with GS…. yet Hammer and Sword/Shield are infinitely better.

That’s actually good to hear. I was using Hammer quite regularly as my Guardian ‘cause I liked the feel of it, so it shouldn’t be that hard to get back into.

What kind of stats am I looking for on these? It looks like everything would be Power/Precision heavy.

Best Builds for PVE by Profession

Full direct damage builds are best because of how the game is designed. e.g. condition damage is hard-capped and defense like dodging and effectiveness of debilitating conditions do not depend on armor.

I’ve noticed this too, unfortunately. I usually tend to start with condition heavy builds, since I like combo fields, but they only work well for me in solo play. Anything with a group tends to stunt my damage dealing ability tremendously. It kind of makes me wonder where that leaves professions like Necro, where conditions seem to be their thing.

Guardian: AH Hammer/Staff
Warrior: Greatsword damage oriented
Mesmer: Shatter with might stacking boon/time warp
Thief: Damage oriented with blind support (Usually S/P-SB)
Engi: Throw grenades and hope your fingers last
Ele: D/D Support/Damage (30 water 30 arcane 10 air)
Necro: Conditions… I guess!
Ranger: Pfffhahahahaha

My Thief, Engineer, Elementalist, and Necro are using those types of builds, so I guess that’s a plus (though I sometimes just stick to Rifle or Bomb Kit auto attack when the grenade spamming starts to kill me). For Warrior I’m running a Sword+Axe/Longbow bleed/burning condition build, but I figured I’d probably have to switch to Greatsword eventually.

I thougt Greatsword was the big thing with Guardians? Then again, I haven’t played my Guardian in a few months, so it’s likely that changed. I’m a little iffy on Mesmer as well. I leveled as a dual sword/greatsword Mesmer, so that probably skewed everything for me since I never shattered my clones ever. I might have to relearn that class completely.

For Ranger… I’m not sure what I’m going to do with her. I’ve got some weird pseudo trap/BM build with power/precision but it’s definitely not panning out.
