Hate to break it to you man but take a vote who really uses their karma in WvW for gear or badges for the gear hardly anyone does
This is definitely true for me, I have 1000+ badges sitting in my bag and 150k karma doing nothing, I just buy siege with them. I am hoping ANet gives players ability to purchase commander with badges, otherwise it seems like it’s just taking up bagspace
Game just came out I am sure they will offer more gear skins to purchase down the road. You should be happy to have 1000+ badges, means you can buy a whole lot of siege without spending valuable monies.

You do know that GW2 “endgame” gear is about skins right. You use those badges to buy skins. Its no different in PvE or Structured PvP.
You already get rewarded for winning in WvW by getting money, karma, XP and loot. The rewarding system is balanced.
and sorry that is bs cause if you are 80 in WvW and you fight someone that is 1-70 you will 3 shot them so dont come at me with that till you know what you are talking about

When you play WvW you get Honor Badges, money, loot, karma, xp, gathered mats. Hate to break it to you man but the rewards in WvW are the same as PvE. Literally exactly the same.
In fact in PvE you get tokens for killing dungeon bosses. In WvW you get tokens by killing kitten. At the moment they do not have much you can buy for these just 1 skin but I am sure they will offer more stuff over time.
I dunno why people seem to think WvW is less rewarding. It is literally no different then PvE.
I totally agree with the above posters, it’s something different and the only thing I wanted to point out is that for the players like me who loves PvP like XvX arenas or something Like Rated BG in WoW, probably they should stop searching in WvW feature that it’s not meant to have.
Cool man hope over into The Heart of the Mists, setup your build and play some sPvP. Hot Join will give you 8v8 matches and if you want to you can get into a tourney team and play some 5v5.
If you can get into a guild that is active in WvW then you may have a good time. I can see how you had it rough by yourself. Really in the end WvW will end being about Guild vs Guild imo.

Well there is your problem OP, its WvW not Arena. I you want “balanced” PvP hope into the Mists and play structured.
10v1? What did you do run around by yourself? That is NOT the way to play WvW. You are supposed to be grouped up and with other players.
WvWvW is vastly different, yeah its PvP but its vastly different then what you just described. If you do not like it then do not play it.
There is nothing wrong with WvW atm. People are complaining on the forums a lot because there server is getting stomped. They think its because of server pop balance or night capping or what not. Fact is they just did not fight well and they gave up. There is no huge vast difference in pops atm across ANY GW2 server.

Hey OP ya know an attitude like that is why your server is probably losing. People who “Just give up” because they are losing so much are a big cause of your servers troubles.

Do you not get loot for killing things in WvW? Do you not get badges which you can use to buy stuff? Do you not get silver? Umm doesn’t capturing or defending a location not give karma, silver and XP?
So let me get this straight you want additional rewards for playing in WvW? So if they did say offer us more XP or more money in WvW would it not be a true statement that PvE then would be not as rewarding?
Seems like a great idea to me! Yes lets make WvW more rewarding then PvE. That way players ALL flock to WvW and never bother to PvE anymore. Suits me just fine since spend most my time in WvW.
If you did not get my sarcism, you already get equally rewarded in WvW as you do in any other aspect of the game. I will actually go out on a limb and say you can potentially earn more XP/money in WvW then PvE in X amount of time provided you are participating in defending/capturing a keep/tower/garrison.

They after all wrote a algorithm to figure all this out. Algorithms that collect info like that only get better over TIME with more DATA.
I am sure they are monitoring and adjusting as needed.
/sigh so many people think they are some kind of expert on the subject and have all the solution yet how many of these people posting this data up actually work in the field? How many work at A.Net or design MMOs. What experience do they really have on this subject to give an education opinion. Most probably none.
In summary let A.Net do their job and let the system do its job and in the meantime play thekittengame and stop complaining.
There is a system in place to encourage balancing: The matchmaking system. It’s three weeks old, and has not had enough time yet to stabilize. It will need several months, most likely.
You’re demanding a fix NOW for something that is designed to work itself out over time, and most likely won’t be a problem once matches have stabilized.

To add to what you said the data they have is based off 24 hr matches so the data they will get over the next couple of weeks will be different because of 1 week matches. Not to mention I am sure a decent % of the pop is not even bothering with WvW because they are to busy still leveling!
Dynamic population limits will never work in this game. I have seen that used in other games and it did not work in them.
I am sorry people are mad because they are getting destroyed, but rather then complain because you think its un-fair, wait and let thekittenrankings do their job and sort it out. That is why there is a ranking. It may take a few weeks but in the end each server will be paired up against servers for more equal matches.
A.Net has a Algorithm they use to figure out the match ups. They are still in the collection phase for data thus 1 week matches we currently have. The data they were going off of was for 24 hr matches. So data will be a little different. They will have a better handle on rankings after a few weeks.
GG on being proactive and offering a solution rather then bickering like many others.
However, how about we just wait it out a bit. Week long matches just started and A.Net has even said they are still collecting data thus no 2 week matches yet.
Like come on A.Net is still getting the info they need. I am sure they are aware of what is happening across the servers. They will come out and say something when they have the info they need and have a solution.

A lot of people need to calm down, its the firstkittenweek of ranked matches. So many people are just whining like little kids about balance this and balance that. Seriously let A.Nets algorithm do its job and figure out the rankings. That is why the matches are 1 week atm, so A.Net can get morekittendata to get a better understanding on balance.
WvW is a HUGE part of the game so I am sure A.Net will ensure populations stay some what balanced so there should not be situations were a particular server grossly out numbers another. I am sure they will do things like free transfer from high to lower pop.
As it stands now there is not some huge difference in server pops anyway. If it seems that way on a map in WvW it means people are just not playing WvW on that map.
In terms of night capping etc…. I think either servers need to get Alliances going with guilds from other time zones or A.Net needs to just restrict the servers by region. I.e. NA servers literally have only players from NA Region.

Hey OP are you able to write complicated computer algorithms? Do you have access to the current algorithm they are using?
Unless you can answer yes to both those questions then you cannot state that there current ranking system is wrong or incorrect.
Hell you have no idea how they determine ranking unless you have seen the code or Dev explained it to you, which I have not seen posted anywhere.
They could simply choose a server that would open at times good for them. Hardly stupid and had been done in several other RvR centric titles
And if your in a guild but suddenly find yourself working late nights and playing early AM you would be screwed unless you leave your guild and change servers. Still not a good solution.
Easy fix is to restrict the servers by Region.
The real solution is to restrict the servers by region. I do not see any other way to balance it correctly.
Closing WvW servers from X time to X time would be stupid and screw over anybody who plays late night or any late night guilds etc….
The proper solution is to restrict servers by region. I.e. NA players on NA servers only and vice versa.

You dont need to grind the same dungeon 100x for gear. I have 2 complete sets (armor, trinkets, weapons) of exotics and not a single one is from dungeons. Stats are all similar on all exotics irregardless of where you obtained them, only difference in looks. Dungeons were designed to have fun testing yourself with the opportunity to get nicer looking skins. If you want a certain skin really bad, you will need to run the same dungeon in one of the four to five pathways several times to get it. Otherwise, its a game, have fun; if its not fun, its not for you.
You didn’t really get what I saying. I know you can get Exotics from crafting much faster. I know the point is the skins.
The point I was trying to get at that you missed was the time vs reward is off compared to other MMOs. If A.Net wants this model that is cool with me. I will not be farming dungeons anyway, my times is better spent in WvW.
However A.Net should announce this model to their player base so those players running dungeons expecting a reward model similar to other games are not let down resulting in them coming to the forums to whine. This should be made known to new players who are looking into this game.
Also the general consensus from what i can see is the time it takes is to get the tokens for 1 set is pretty high. Again if that is A.Net’s intentions they need to clearly state it. So far they have not. The hype built around this game by A.Net is = casual fun and not grindy. Yet this dungeon model does not follow that.
It comes down to communication. Communicate the model and let the player base know what to expect. Do not build up hype that is 100% different then what is happening in game.
I think people are not necessarily mad at difficultly but the reward vs time investment. From what I can tell they are really out of whack.

Okay so well I am not even 80 yet but after reading all this stuff about 40+ hrs of running the same dungeon just to get gear that I could get in like a few hours from crafting, well lets just say that I will only be doing the Story Mode dungeons for just that the story. Screw grinding some dungeons for 40+ for a set of gear. This also kind shattered my conception of how the game was built according to the hype that was given by A.Net Devs before release.
Some questiosn, what happened to drops? Can you not get the gear from bosses? Do bosses even drop Exotics? Why the hell do you I need to run the SAME dungeon for 1300 tokens? Why is there no generic token?
So based off what I am reading gonna rate 1/10. These dungeon grinds sound prettykittenbad, something I would expect from a Korean MMO not A.Net.
Even if you go out and gather the materials it does not mean its free. You spent money to travel around to gather the materials plus you spent time.
Time = money my friend.
Materials simply cost to much. 1s 22c for 1 vanilla to make something that isn’t even worth CLOSE to that. The crafting system may not be broken but the gathering system definatly is. They need to raise the drop rates of certain materials (cooking)
Also the finer materials and leather/cloth. Those two do not drop enough compared to how many you need to use for the crafts.
Actually Lydiaele using Discovery to level your craft is the more efficient way atm for some crafts, specifically the armor/weapon crafts.
I to have been just trying to discover all the recipes associated with each insignia and armor type for Leatherworking and it has been going well. Seems like you gain skill faster that way and more XP too!
However the OP is correct that the amount of fine materials needed for insignia’s is out of balance. If you check the TP and look up metals, woods, gems, some cooking mats you will see they are super cheap. Now look at Leathers, Cloths and the fine materials. They are in demand and expensive. So that there proves to me that the materials are out of balance.
Hell there is such and abundance of some materials that A.Net had to go out of the way to make some special Mystic Forge recipes to reduce the materials on the market. That is cool and all but why not fix the problem instead of doing a band aide solution.
Availability of crafting mats are so out of balance atm hence the absurdly cheap woods, gems, metals but expensive leathers/cloths and fine materials. I do not know how A.Net did not figure this would happen because EVERYBODY can gather metals, gems and woods but cloths/leathers and fine materials are RNG based drops.
This causes certain crafts to be easier to level and others harder, case in point Jeweler vs Leatherworker.
Overall I agree with the OP and think there needs to be some tuning. A few ways I think they can easily fix it.
Reduce the cost of Insignia’s for the finer mats ala 4-6 Vials instead of 8. Add more cloth/leather drops and finer material drops. With that problem solved.
@all the people who saying crafting should be hard. Yes crafting Lvl 80 gear/items/legendaries etc… should be hard and should require a grind. However I completely 100% disagree that leveling a crafting skill should require so much grinding. It should be a smooth leveling curve that flows with your characters level from zone to zone that does not require any extra strenuous effort. At the end when you hit 400 is when the grind should begin for the super cool 400 only recipes.

If you want your pets to survive… manage them better (e.g. hotkey all their abilities, including retreat/swap) and also spec into your pet’s survivability or better yet, choose a beefier (bear – less dps, more health) pet option. 75%-85% of your dps comes from you, if your pet is doing more than you, or even significantly more than you, something is wrong with your play style/build.
You completely mis-understood what he was saying or you just did not read his post.
His point was it should not require a pet build to make the pet viable if A.Net is emphasizing the amount of damage output our currents pet have.
I think it is safe to say that every class in the game has some major issues, some more then others. In time things will be fixed up and balanced.
I am sure A.Net is aware of many issues, hell they stickyed a Bug post thread for Rangers. Just like any other MMO at release the main focus is to not balance classes but to fix major bugs and problems with the game as a whole. From there they will branch out to class balancing, crafting balance, Dungeon tuning etc…
What I find weird is the lack of 2h Axes….where did they go?!
I am going off topic here but hell yeah a 2-hand axe would be awesome and some type of pole arm. Seriously there are no land use polearms in game.
The Spirits don’t follow unless you trait it. Imo its a waste of a trait and ruins Spirits. Seriously not a very fun mechanic. I would use Spirits more often if I was not required to spend 30 traits pts and a Major trait slot in order to make them even some what useable. Necro’s do not have to trait it why should we? Rangers are after all a “pet” class.
Another point is Spirits are pretty dull and useless while leveling until you are a high enough level to get the trait, which btw you cannot until your 60+.
I will go for the Shortbow because its kitten hilarious. Then I will go for the Warhorn, since I ALWAYS use a Warhorn in WvW and PvE.

I don’t know what crazy amounts of gold you are putting into crafting. I currently have artifice, JC, tailor, and cook at 400 and I would say I spent less then a gold total
I made 2 sets of armor for myself. I also made numerous this to break down for ectosThe only time I spent any money was bying the claws, blood and stuff if I was at the end of a tier and didnt feel like going out to get more

True you do not need to spend gold to level your crafting profession. Now let me ask you this. How much time to did you spend grinding up all the mats to do that?
Your missing the point of the thread. The point is, the crafting is out of balance. The amount of mats needed to level crafting atm are to high in comparison to the rate of character level and acquisition of said materials. Which then force players to either A] not craft B] grind for hours or C] spend gold.
This is in direct contrast of what A.Net themselves said they were trying to achieve with their crafting system. Yes crafting at 80 for Exotics/Legendaries should be a grind but leveling the crafting should not. It should be a smooth progression that follows suit with your character leveling.
Solution is easy, reduce the amount of materials needed and reduce XP given (to align with easy skill leveling). This would also reduce the cost of materials on the market for those who still insist on buying. However do not reduce the mats needed for Lvl 80 recipes. Simple bam fixed.
Lol I agree I would like to seem them change the Juvenile part after you have tamed them, but there are far more important things to resolve first.
The pet names are bugged, when you stow (put away, not swap) one pet and pick another the name is not saved and goes back to being Juvenile Whatever.
I stopped trying to name my pets because I got annoyed with having to redo the names.
Honestly I like the pets a lot and like having mine running around with me. However I am not happy with how dependent we are on them for damage.
I feel like they should do less damage and we the Ranger should do more. The balance is off atm because of the poor AI and the ease of which pets die. Unless you make a build centered around your pet, they are weak vs the reliance on their damage.
Either buff Pet survivability/fix AI or nerf pet damage and raise Ranger damage. If A.Net wants our pet to be a huge factor then an easy fix for pet survival would be to reduce AoE damage to the pet, that is my biggest complaint.
Although maybe it would be cool to have a one non-pet build say the 20 pt trait removes your pet and does some stuff to compensate, I would be open to that.
Yep, been trying to get a ranger greatsword build to work. There just isn’t anything you can do with this sword to make it any better. The ranger needs some serious love because as of right now there is no point in using anything other than a shortbow.
Yes Greatsword is lacking but to say that Shortbow is only good weapon is naive.

Was not trying to “single you out” at all. They way your post was written kinda came across as if you did not realize that. Your post comes across as hey Rapid Fire is better and Hunter’s Call is inferior when in fact they are both in balance imo.
I understand people saying this is not a bug, BUT if that were true then they intentionally designed a skill to negate your own dodge rolls. Why would they go through the trouble of telling us how awesome dodge is, just to turn around and say “o.k. but on a melee ranger who will need it more than most anyone else, you can’t use it kittenol”.
There is no way they purposely designed it to CC you in place. Right now sword/horn is my favorite, but it’s just really unplayable in most areas. I’ve ended up switching to 2hs because the skills all work for that beast.
I agree man I highly highly doubt it is intended because well look at every other #1 weapon skill. Does any other one lock you in place while the auto attack is on? Nope none that I can recall and I have played pretty much every weapon with every class in the game.
@Pikafan, that is fine by mean and I think intended since Hunter’s Call is cast pretty quickly and is not channeled like Rapid Fire. If it had the same damage as Rapid Fire that would be OP vs it’s cast/channeled time.

I do have a request please add Sword #1 skill locking you in place while the auto attack is on and in use. This is a broken ability and needs to be address, it pretty much ruins that entire weapon and makes one very very vulnerable to damage while using.
To the OP Axe/Warhorn is great for leveling and travel in PvE. Hell its great in WvW too.
I have stuck with Axe/Warhorn for a long time. I have a hard time getting rid of it because A) Sword sucks so Axe is the obvious 1 hand weapon to use and Warhorn buffs rock plus Flock of Birds nuff said.
Usually I will match it up with a Longbow if running a Power/Precision build or Shortbow if running a Condition based build.
The sword 1 skill is what stops me from liking and using that weapon atm. Trying to use that weapon just gets you killed.
It is a broken ability, people can say turn of auto attack etc… but the fact that it locks you in place in order to do the attack is broken. No other class has that with any weapon #1 skill. Remember this is the #1 skill, the spam attack, the auto attack. A.Net by design made the #1 skills the ability you want to set to auto attack because of the spam nature of them.
If this was some skill like Flurry or Hundred Blades then fine go ahead lock me in place while using it but no its the spam skill.
It is sad that it is broken because I really like everything else about the sword and would love to try a Sword/Dagger or Sword/Warhorn build. In the end when they fix it and I can strafe while using the #1 skill I would then love the sword and use it a lot.
