Maybe they have a guild commander that could use the seige even though the person itself is not interested in wvw?
Is not lazy, its effective. It only takes a few seconds to enter EB, check if a mesmer is there and leave. I’m sure servers that have queues love that.
Good commanders, pug or not, communicate, but more importantly, LISTENS to what everyone is saying. If you’re attacking or defending a paper tower, and someone says that X fully upgraded tower is under attack, you need to be smart and mature enough to assess the situation and be ready to leave if the current offensive is not worth it.
Also don’t take yourself or your role too seriously, ever, this is a game and first and foremost the point is to have fun, and make it possible for the people following you to have fun too.
Logged in this morning to find this. It almost brought a tear to my eye, then I remembered I had to leave for work.
What is wrong with getting causal WvW players to the top of the JP so they can get 2 free siege a day? Not everyone on the server thinks WvW is more important then PVE we need to have a balance.
No it’s not bad. This is a game and people often forget that. Players have fun in different ways and complainers need to deal with it.
I’ve been in a few open VoIP servers for WvW across a few servers. One thing that really really bugs me is the commanders that lose their cool and start shouting at their guildies and the puggies when things start going badly. Now, I realize that WvW can get pretty intense at times, and stress levels increase, especially when you are ultimately responsible for the success of a group of 30 or more people.
But commanders have to remember that these people are not their gremlins to be chastised for failure. They are real people that are in this to have as much fun as possible. I can tell you, the motivation to try to have fun goes down pretty quickly when Mr.Commander expresses his displeasure in the worst possible way by mouthing off for 2 minutes. They are not all at the MLG skill levels and reaction times you want them to be. People are going to see you are not in control of the situation and start leaving and doing other things.
I also believe, that when things do go badly for the group, it is almost always entirely the commanders fault. As the commander, they ultimately take responsibility for getting the group into the bad situation whether they mis-read the enemies intentions/numbers/whatever. Most of them realize they are being an kitten and apologize profusely afterwards.
Good commanders keep their cool and I respect the hell out of the ones that command well.
What else do you think make good and bad commanders? No name-dropping please.
I’m pretty sure that those who lose their “cool” more often than not are still in their teen years, or still have that mentality.
Open on Crystal Desert right now. Not sure when it was opened.
Ahhh, reset day. It’s like watching my favorite TV show, but instead of one hour it’s like 8 lol.
I can see only one thing that needs looked at: vapour form. Elementalists never die in WvW, unless their whole zerg dies, because everytime they get downed they instantly become invulnerable and fly back into their zerg, where they get revived by 5+ people. Only real way to kill them is to make a big push into enemy zerg, whereas every other class can be killed easily if they are in the frontlines.
I’m not saying ele is overpowered (which it actually is, there, I said it now) but vapour form is ridiculous in WvW.
You can still cripple and paralyze them. Just because YOU can’t kill it means it needs to be looked at.
From a thief that does this from time to time: Yes we know it’s annoying, we also know that we shouldn’t be able to to this, however it’s effective. And no, there is no way you can stop us. If you send 5 to 10 people to avoid us from contesting, that’s 5 to 10 people that are not fighting in the front lines, if you don’t, we keep contesting, so either way, we win.
Rejoice, I’m sure ANet will make keeps/castles harder to contest eventually.
Lies! Blatant lies!
Depends on what you mean by OP.
When 2 zergs clash and I’m on my Warrior I can just rush and break their line, down a couple people and return to the safety of my zerg alive. I call that being super OP. However when I encounter a single ranger, mesmer, thief or Ele I run cowardly away from them screaming like a little girl because I’m not traited for 1v1 fights. I’m traited to take a ton of damage, hit a lot and hide inside a zerg.
With my thief and Ele I can facerool anyone 1v1 or 2v1 when I’m roaming, but I wouldn’t even think of breaking a zerg line as I do with my warrior. As powerful as Dagger storm and tornado are, you still take a TON of damage.

There were plenty more with their tags off lol.
We PvE a lot son, everyone and their mother have a commander toon. lol
Thief is THE roaming class. Second one would be Ele, but this is way superior.
If you have your tag on make sure you have siege. Be nice, and ask for things nicely, don’t scream or lose your temper. The other players are there to have fun, not to do chores. Keep your zerg well feed, as in give them plenty of karma, experience, kills and fun, and they will gladly follow you next time.
But most importantly, know when to turn your tag off or on. If there are more experienced or liked commanders around, turn it off and set aside unless they ask for help, otherwise you will just get in the way an no one will appreciate it.
I will still have fun no matter what tier we end up at, and I hardly ever saw any awe, esf or naga at US primetime so that wont make much of a difference. If anything we drop one tier and steamroll the other servers all the time
The good news is that now loot is giving plenty of badges to buy seige, bad news, sometimes is not enough and you will have to dig into your savings. I have a personal rule to avoid commanding unless I have enough seige to last for at least 4 hours.
Finances is also a small part of it, if you put your tag on, make sure you HAVE the time to stay there for a minimum of one uninterrupted hour, specially if there is no one else to hand it over to.
Yesterday my zerg was DESTROYED by QL/Dan, I knew going there was a mistake, but it was an awesome mistake lol.
I’ve always wondered. what do you find fun about it? it seems ridiculously uneventful and dull to me.
What do people find fun about racing games? Sports games? JRPG’s? FPS’s?
Not everyone likes the same things and that is completely fine. Even WvW itself is full of people playing or doing different things. Some people like to strategize, others like to roam around solo and stalk the enemy, others love to be on a zerg and stomp whoever crosses their path, and others just like to play sim city with towers camps. While others like to complain at everything the current commander does.
The current state of the game is perfect, stop trying to make this game into something it’s not. Next.
SoS might be owning in points, but fighting against them seem way more balanced than against Mags, we destroy them sometimes, then they destroy us. Super fun open field fights all over the place!

I would LOVE if it was account bound, but I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon. I chose my Warrior, for obvious reasons, a commander is no good if he’s dead, and I can just walk into the red zerg, take a LOT of hits and come back alive, which motivates the zerg to follow me… most times.
However I find myself playing my Ele or Thief more often than the Warrior which sucks because the icon is so useful to call out enemy positions when I’m scouting with the thief. I’ve thought about buying another icon but that means farming CoE again and I don’t feel like it.
But anyway, the commander title is a good gold sink, and ANet loves gold sinks, so its not going to happen.
Update please!
This is the main reason I don’t spend my hard (easy!) earned money on upgrades anymore. What’s the incentive if I get more karma/experience/silver (aka, rewards) out of having it flip.
One can argue that it could be harder to flip, thus gaining more points for your server, but what does “winning” really give us? Server pride? Pffttt!
Yes it has it’s place. End of discussion.
Ohoho. I was doing the same to SBI on my Thief in EBG last night, for hours and hours while I was chased endlessly. Clearly a newfound way of trolling.
hahaha yes, you were definitely toying with us but I enjoyed playing with you – trying to spot where you’d come up and getting off a fruitless moa morph just to watch you dodge off a cliff and Descent of Shadows to who-knows-where. It absolutely amazes me how much ground you can cover with stealth – general chatter was wondering if you were telehacking. I’m not much of a wvw or pvp player but I had fun with that (admittedly pointless) game of cat and mouse.
That aside, I don’t think it should be so easy to contest the waypoint!
Although I enjoy the thrill of contesting and running away from 5 to 10 angry players, I do agree with you, contesting shouldn’t be so easy. Also, tip! Don’t keep running on the same direction the thief was running to when he hid, we never keep going that way. :p
I love SoS already! Yesterday I kept contesting their keep for a couple hours, running away whenever someone was trying to kill me, eventually a group of SoS’s party me and they say “Please stop running away, I just want to hug you and my little legs are getting tired.” I couldn’t help it and loled for a while.
Same thing happened with Mags but their comment was more like “OMG YOU NEWB STOP RUNNING COWARD!1!!”

Former? I still see plenty of KoMe, NAGA, QCS, Lime, SoH, Orb, PA, DC, EsF, etc.. around. If you left, you’re not missed, at all.
Current system works fine.
CD is extremely weak during NA prime. I wouldn’t suggest there if that’s going to be the time slot you primarily play in. Unless you like being able to find fights, of course.
We have gotten better churn out since the update. I’ve been seeing 30 to 40 zerg groups in the past weeks on US primetime and thats a LOT. Considering that past update we were outmanned all the time.
“If you completely die in WvW, you should die.”
Like, drop dead in front of your computer?
lol, no.
Good fights in CD tonight. Every time I see the TDS commander, you guys do really well.
Thanks for the good time!
Yep, Daeronz is pretty awesome! He is one of my top favorite CD commanders.
On CD we have a nice and very active community going, TS3 is open all the time but most people only use it on reset, weekends and special events. A lot of our big guild left a while ago but we’re still very strong.
Check us out! http://crystal-desert.com/
LOL!!! Those are some pretty epic conversations!
Thiefs dont die…..they try to gank….and if that fails, run away with impunity.
No risk, highreward.
You should never see thiefs jumping in to attack a large group and porting out with impunity. They have too many escape options. Either make them hit like a wet blanket, or make them commit, if they dont get the kill, make them pay for it, not just be able to get away and try again.
Sooo, you want ANet to nerf a class just because you are bad at the game? lol
Thiefs = Assassins, and that is how assassins work, see an opportunity, take it, failed? bail out. How is what they do different than being an ele, using ride the lightning, spam all your skill and then portaling out? Eles should be nerfed too? pfffffffttttt!!!
Blind, confusion, knockdown, cripple, fear.
There, I just gave you the tools you need. :p
Make a thief to learn how to counter them. Hint: It’s pretty easy.
Mesmers on the other hand… shudders
Don’t get your hopes up, I’m pretty sure SoS will be the new Maguuma and they will be steamrolling us all.
Do you people grasp the concept of TEAMS? A team might be working on the SAB, while another works on another thing. WvW is a small part of the game and those are the resources it gets.
Don’t say goodbye so soon, we will see each other in 2 weeks, 3 tops.
It’s okay, we have a contingency plan to all log off when things get hard. We call it the CDNA.
LOL!!! TOUCHE!!!
So Mag is ready to get ROLFStomped on Friday? Enjoy!
AOE cap is there for a reason. With my elemental I can spam an area for a minute with hits ranging from 800 to 3K damage. With no AOE cap I could decimate a whole a zerg by myself, and no player should have that kind of power. Ever.
No. The consequence of removing the AOE cap would be that nobody runs in zergballs any more. You just have to spread out when combat begins to not give a target for AOEs. This is common practice in other RVR based games like DAOC and worked perfectly well.
Besides: Meteor Shower is one of the easiest skills to avoid. You only take damage inside the circle AND when you get hit by a meteor. And the skill has a pretty large delay. You can just walk out of the red circle in the beginning before any meteor actually hits the ground.
I’m fine with zerg balls so I don’t see a need to “remove” them. There are tools to deal with them. Bu removing AOE cap you’re making several classes way too powerful.
Also, there are ways to keep players INSIDE the meteor shower. Staff air 5, staff fire 5, fire glyph of storms, staff ice 4, ice bow 4, earth 5, and finally fire 5. Rinse repeat and you killed a whole zerg.
If you really want to destroy a zerg ball, drop an arrow cart, it just takes 3 players to build one and you have unlimited AOE. Oh they moved? Well too bad, drop another.
So remove AOE limit by giving another AOE limit that reduces the original limit making your class even more useless? No thanks. Current model works just fine, not perfect, but it works.
Could they run through each other and rez the fallen multiple times? When a boulder fell on top of them were they safe because the AOE cap protected them? Comparing a game with mechanics that dont apply to real life war is “nonsense rambling” in my opinion.
They couldn’t build a wall within minutes either, should we stop being able to fix towers because of that?

WvWvW = World VS World VS World. What did you get in ancient times when two nations fought? Huge zergs. That’s what WvW is, so please stop this nonsense rambling because it’s not going to change anytime soon.
Used to be way worst than it’s now. I remember not being able to walk two steps without being pulled over 7 times in a row…
I stopped upgrading ages ago. Upgrading requires deep pockets that you can only get by playing TP or dungeon farming, and if you’re doing that, you’re not on WvW. So now I only ride the karma train.
