I don’t particularly care for my LB in 1 on 1 encounters…. For everything else in wvwvw the LB is terrific.

That’s kind of what I was thinking as well. The problem is, while this is great for roaming, it doesn’t appear all that effective in zerg Vs zerg. With all the AoE condi removal, I found that most enemy zergs just ignore me.

In Zerg v Zerg or Blob v Blob it is all about the AoE’s…. and the immobilize #4 skill on runners… All about the bags. Swap to a GS and do the GS AoE on movement of the commander, which isn’t about Cond. much, but hits a lot of folks, the more the merrier. Let the sure weight of your Blob/Zerg do the overall killing, tag tag tag is the name of the game. Also, on keep takes the #4 LB is great for tagging the keep/castle/tower Champions, the tick will do a lot of dmg, get you the chest and you don’t have to be at the front to do it, just make sure you’re up the ramp enough or you will be obstructed or the Champ is pulled down the ramp.

Most of folks I see using the LB all run some sort of condi build. Is it not as effective using a P/P/T set and normal DPS build?

I’m not sure about how effective it is using P/P/T set, but most of the bow skills are condition ticking, so stacking + condition just makes sense.

I watched a vid of a guy using a ham/bow on youtube and what struck me was how low his ticks were compared to my condition build ticks.

Not going to happen, what would happen is, the 3 top tier realms would lose players/guilds to the middle six. Playing the same two realms over and over and over and over and over and over and over for a 7 week season would be painful.

Imagine, 6 of the strongest guilds leave BG and move to SoS once this kind of schedule is announced…

I don’t get it… I don’t. Last night in EB on Gold League, we had 35-40 guys zerging around and taking keeps, the castle, etc… We ran head long into biggers zergs several times and won and lost. 50-60 player zergs. Just because you have fewer, doesn’t mean you can’t win. We basically took everything we tried to take. The times we lost open field we got taken by surprise, well the commander did, he froze heh.

I don’t understand, “out manned”.

This goes to the problem with server population.
I think that servers show population of account bound to the server, but don’t show average players numbers.
If many people left from a server like 3 months after launch, server can have Very High status and be mostly deserted. I think it’s like that on my server (but I won’t spoil the name)

Na, I’m on one of the most populated servers and we have this same issue. Folks generally don’t wish to go back and redo content that is pretty meaningless. We can’t even get Karka Queen Event to be on a rotation. >shrugs<

I watched this and all I could think is how annoying the ranger knock back and the warrior stomp will be in certain areas of the map. Get near and edge and boom off you go.

Anyway, good idea of an over flow map. Will there be a way to Que for WvWvW without going into the overflow map? I don’t mind que’n and doing the dailies while I wait or will I be forced into the overflow?

My advice to you is just play. I have never Karma farmed, have purchased 3 full sets of Karma gear and have over 1,000,000 Karma that I have no clue how to spend at this point as I am not working toward a legendary.

I agree with the OP, for the name of the game being Guild Wars 2, there is very little to force, by giving incentives, individuals to be part of a guild.

Pug Wars 2 might have been better? or World Wars 2 (see how this might have been confused), but you get the drift.

There should be Guild Commander pins only visible to Guild members only… Ability to form alliances within guilds, makes evening coverage easier to set up. Anyway, nothing is stopping any of this in game but it sure could be easier to have happen with some subtle changes.

Repair achievement, never again please

While I hear your sentiment, wall repair is the ONLY defensive achievement currently. To me there are others WAAAY more difficult, like wall/door dmg. On our server if you aren’t all the way up on Ram Skills they won’t let you on a ram, and the way we take keeps they don’t want you pounding on a door less swords go up, nor do you want to as the Blob will soon show.

The amount of Sentry Areas taken is ridiculous, I won’t sniff that either. Oh and Dolyak kills is another unobtainable. If your anywhere in the middle of a zerg to the back, you may SEE the dolyak but you won’t tag it before its dead.

Less you think I jest, I’m 11 or 12 of 15 with a few more on the cusp of completion, will be done by the end of the week, I’ve WvW’d a lot. Yet I only have like 50 dolyak’s killed and maybe 60 sentry points? What maybe 2 walls down?!?! Yet keep and tower takes were the first two achievements I finished.

Go roaming? I got the yak, sentry and camp achievements in the first week. Do you mainly zerg? I had a hard time getting a hit in on a yak while zerging (I was on JQ for while) and the zerg never stopped at a sentry point.

You don’t need all those achievements though. They’re just meant to appeal to the people who like small group fights.

JQ has an easy matchup this week. Buy some siege and throw it down and bump whoever it is off the ram/cata. It’s not like it matters if you take an extra 30 seconds to knock down the door.

It shouldn’t but the commanders pitch a fit if you aren’t a Ram Master on the door, and while yes, JQ has had an easy run, on the maps you can actually get on to play very few are competitive, with several completely all points owned by JQ, kinda hard to take camps when you own the map in its completeness while you sit in an hours long EB que. Or you have pushed a team into a corner where they basically have their map blob running in just one section and taking anything in a small group isn’t possible.

Like I said, I’ve completed 11/15 and don’t see a problem with completing my 15, but these that I mentioned have been particularly painful to come by.

Edit: To give you an idea, I just logged in and checked, on the 3 non que maps I can log in on there is a total of 5 camps that I can take spread out on 3 maps.

Honest opinion, it won’t change much. Still, as mentioned, we lack kiting abilities. One reason for that is how the movement in game was designed (strafe being slower, able only to kite in circle if target is close, left-side kiting far worse than right-side (strange and sad), range skills which break easily, slow character reaction), second is complete lack of constant kiting tools like slowing enemies with cripple, cleanses from movement imparing effects and quick disengages to gain range( my personal favourite in here is Quick Shot – perfect sample of disengage, though very short range) coupled with pet beingquite irresposible.

You know, I thought it was just me and the left sided kiting. Glad I am not imagining things. And your correct in the kiting tools, it is far easier and effective to kite as a LB Warrior, mainly because there are AoE fields that are instant cast that you can keep the target kiting through.

For me, while in, its been amazing. Some of the best moments so far in playing the game. For me as a guildy, bad, our guild can’t get on to run as a guild. I don’t mind the laggy zerg fights as everyone is laggy equally. If it was one sided lag I would have an issue.

Treb spamming in the keep

I’m posting here because there is no way to report it with the default report options in game, and I guess this is the closest thread to the subject.
On my server (Far Shiverpeaks) there have been a person spam building trebs in the back of the keep of Eternal Battlegrounds with it’s supplies. They are all placed in places where they are virtually useless and all they are is a waste of supplies. He has also been building rams in there (to a lesser extent) which is even more useless. When confronted all he says is that he is “building a new world”. I’m aware our server is not one of the best in WvWvW but if this is a problem on our server it is probably a problem on a lot of other servers as well.
I hope this is resolved soon.
I’m not going to link the persons account (unless asked for it from an employee at anet) because I assume that would be against the terms of service on the forum.

He hops around from server to server doing this…

If I was going to zerg run with my ranger considering how our Commanders like to manage the zerg on zerg battles, I would go Trap build with Rampage as One for stability, add to it your waterfield and you’re good to go. I would probably go short bow with either Dwayna Gear or Settler’s. Axe/torch, utilizing all AoE or multi player attacks, fields etc…

I did not know this. I thought PvE was mostly random.

There seems to be more to it than that but that is one element of their wacky aggro system.

That’s what I’ve been saying for a while but people dismissed me and said that’s not how agro works. There you go, yeah it is. Toughness = Agro.

Yup, has to be something or the Champions would be full on ele killers. This is the one thing that the supposed tank classes, Guardian and Warrior have a lot of, Toughness.

Anyone can see its a big nerf for raw damage.
But Anet wants us to get less adrenaline for this burst.
Some people already shared there suggestion to reduce the adrenaline from it like:

Suggestion:

lvl1 4sec pulses are on the 0+ 2- 4- sec
lvl2 6sec pulses are on the 0+ 2- 4+ 6- sec
lvl3 8sec pulses are on the 0+ 2- 4+ 6- 8+ sec
-no adrenaline from this pulse
+gain adrenaline from this pulse

So:
lvl 1 gives 1 adrenaline on pulse 0
lvl 2 gives 2 adrenaline on pulse 0 and 4
lvl 3 gives 3 adrenaline on pulse 0 and 4 and 6

Anet still got there adrenaline nerf from it but we keep the same damage/pulses.
too implement something like this is much easier compared to the suggestion Anet is making: increase burning, increase pulses duration (its actually increasing the time between them..), and reduce the number of pulses.

Anet happy and we are happy :-)

Sorry, but do you REALLY believe it is just about the Adrenaline gain? I read the entire mechanic is OP and they need to tone it down by reducing dmg, adrenaline, and the fact it has such a quick recast.

Most useless class in WvW?

What amazing utility can a class bring to make them useful? The ranger class had its one really nice ability, waterfield nerfed, oh and its really cool 10 stack invulnerability nerfed. Suppose, if lag allows a pet that runs around and rez folks it might be as nice as a Warrior Banner, but then again, maybe not. Rangers certainly can’t out DPS classes.

So poor utility and meh dps… You tell me. Yes Mesmers have a couple of needed utilities. Same with Ele, so we can’t really count those. Theif has its place with DPS single target. Warriors a place. Engineers a place. Guardian’s a place.

Here are my comments on what we have seen discussed so far with the warrior changes.

Ah, so folks are using the AoE as an Adrenaline builder, but don’t they have to have adrenaline first to cast it? Which means something like Bezerker stance is still the go to in making the AoE work and would end up on a trait bar anyway.

Why not just push the cool down out a bit? That would also limit the amount of attacks over time, while still giving it good situational use? I hate to see it nerfed in this manner, I want it to be an effective skill which obviously I feel it is now. Anyway, you probably did consider this and have a reason why it won’t work, >shrugs< mainly talking out loud.

You can still work on overall damage per tick even keeping it at 2 per second. So, you want the AoE that ticks 3 times in 6 seconds for say 450 (just using a number), to instead click 2 times in 6 seconds for 400 (just using a number). ??? This way more guys can run through it without getting the tick, which AoE’s are already limited to … what 5? getting the damage in an area?

Why not keep the ticks at 3/6 but just drop the damage to 400 (same example as above) ? Then put in a longer cool down time even if adrenaline pumps back up? The argument about the adrenaline to quickly is mute because once cast, you can immediately start bowing or swording or making anything close to you to build up adrenaline anyway. It isn’t the like the Ranger Barrage as the only thing a warrior can do while AoE’n.

Play a Mesmer a bit and learn to be trixy, then play a LB ranger and reap the rewards of being trixy with the ranger toolkit.

I will disagree with one of your points here. LB #5 is a bad skill because you have to stand still to cast it. When you contrast this AoE against say, the Warrior AoE’s which are shoot and forget while your moving you will begin to see what “Amazing” is all about.

LB #5 is hardly bad, most people won’t even stand in it, you can use it as a detaunt, aka area denial, not to mention it lasts longer than the warriors AoEs (most of which are just one hit and then done which i guess you could use barrage for). Barrage, unlike the warriors skills, should be used more to create an area that the enemy doesn’t want to be in, something you can kite them through to rack up damage and cripple (which is in turn more damage since you can keep more distance).

The warrior F2 (Combustive Shot) is the nasty AoE that I was speaking of. I don’t know this for certain but I think its Area is larger than my Rangers Barrage, maybe not. Lasts nearly as long and is what I use to run folks through an area repeatedly cause it last so long and has a nasty condition tick and I CAN KITE them through the area while dealing other damage, something my Ranger can not do. Heck, I don’t have to kite them, I can swap weapons and make them go toe to toe with me and they have to do so in my soup of condition damage mess. The limitation is, my Adrenaline has to be full, which isn’t hard with Bezerker stance (it ticks your Adrenaline to full).

Sadly, Combustive shot is on the nerf bat batters box for the Dec 10 patch, its that strong. But, when you wish to use a term like Amazing it helps to know what else is out there, I was only trying to point that out to you.

Edit: My poor Ranger has to sit on top of a keep wall while casting Barrage, while my warrior can hop up onto the wall let loose a nasty ticking AoE, hop down, when cool down is up, hop back up cast another AoE in the same spot ontop of the ticking AoE, then hop back down or hit another smaller AoE bow skill…

Now THAT is amazing.

Yes, they are looking for build diversity… They want folks to pick a hammer as damage (though this may be to limited now) or pick a hammer as CC but not both. That promotes diversity in their minds.

Nor am I, but as bad as this is, it is still worlds better than the Ranger LB AoE. I can only hope all other AoE’s from other classes are getting the like kind treatment, because the massive overlapping circles in WvWvW in some keep/castle takes is staggering.

Hmm, a lot depends on what your commanders do when zerg hits zerg. Sans a pet in the lag that will do anything, probably need to bow it, and work the perimeter and stay away from the head of the zerg you’re colliding with. My warrior with Stability and over 2000 toughness can die in that zerg point real quick like.

But how do you get SOS to understand that whether they come in 5th or 6th, it doesn’t matter?

Why are you blaming SoS? The wxp train is what drives this stuff, on all servers, not just SoS. You cannot stop our train from blindly running around taking whatever they can, so why expect SoS to do it?

I thought most players were in WvW to actually fight players not beat on doors and take stuff defended with only a handful of players. Some actually enjoy challenging fights. Hint: you can get your WXP from taking JQ towers and keeps also. But then you would have had to actually work hard for it.

If SOS had focused on JQ on their side of the map, and Mag had done the same, then the whole match would have been more fun for everyone IMO. Or at least those not looking for easy mode boring fights. JQ’s massive zerg would have had to constantly split up and fight on two fronts. I think a lot of them would probably have preferred the challenge of that instead of running in a circle steamrolling everything.

Basically when you and JQ focused on Mag at the same time, it made it easy for JQ to wipe Mag off the map. And then of course when they were done with that and got bored, they started on SoS and wiped your stuff off the map. You could have delayed them from doing that or maybe even prevented it had you hit them when they were hitting us, instead of hitting us at same time they were.

But it happens like this in every darn lopsided match up like this. I wish just ONCE the 2 weaker servers would focus on beating the big one and leave each mostly alone.

But whatever…play the way you want.

Yea, I think you should definitely try this tactic vs BG later…

Sure would be funny if during the livestream the pet pulls 2 extra mobs to the dev’s ranger and kills him. So many AI issues. Lag issues.

Maybe the Ranger can be effective in WvW using a pet, but if so, it is a rarity I’m not seeing. Every bow battle v. a ranger I’ve won on my Warrior, not even close. Wrong pets? Wrong spec’s? No clue.

Live stream some WvWvW battles with your ranger.

Check that, the Question I would ask is, how is Anet going to handle the natural limitation on our Stats with Ascended Gear because it doesn’t effect the pet?

Sadly, a lot of things in game are worded poorly, not giving the correct description or an incomplete description of what an item actually accomplishes. This goes a bit deeper into event descriptions as well.

You should have heard the confusion in Ventrillo last night between guild mates and the current event, what’s going on?? What to kill? Not getting the correct items, doesn’t make sense. These are seasoned MMO players with years, even decades of experience being brought to exacerbation by a simple event.

Exploration is one thing, discovery is another, but frustration is not warranted or needed.

Crashing to character select screen.

Since the last patch I’ve been crashing to the character select screen for a reason I can’t seem to understand. A few other folks were saying it was the zone in Orr, they were also having crashing problems and thought it was the zone, and while I crashed there 3 times last night, the day before I was in WvWvW zone and I also crashed, with two follow up crashes in Lion’s Arch. Again, always to character select screen, where I was allowed to immediately load back into the game, no hesitation.

This wouldn’t be so annoying, except that with the current Que’s to WvWvW lands, 45min – an hour, it can ruin an evening of game play.

In games I have played in the past, when you get bumped out to character select or even all the way to desk top, there is a time where you can log back in and get your character back exactly where he was when you were DC’d. This Game does not have this feature. Can something like this be implemented?

Ranger: If Anet can’t get a handle on the lag in wvwvw, then the Pet mechanic has to be allocated to another form to ensure the Ranger can actually get F2 abilities to work and pet AI to work. In the current Lagwars Pets are pretty useless and thereby gimping the Ranger.

I could live with a permanent pet stow with a corresponding bump to stats and an F2 ability.

In term of no, obviously ranger has lower no. Ranger has the lowest coefficient among the 3. Ranger has total coefficient of 1.75, Warrior has 2.3 and Guardian has 2.8 for their skill 1. You are looking at no for effectiveness

Here is example of effectiveness:
Box A can fit 10 apples and it has 7 apples in it. 70% space used. 7/10
Box B can fit 10 apples and it has 8 apples in it. 80% space used. 8/10
Each box expand to be able to store 5 more apples and given 5 more apples.
Box A has now used 80% of its space. 12/10
Box B has now used 86% of its space. 13/10
Each box given additional expansion of 5 and given 5 more apples again.
Box A has now used 85% of its space. 17/10
Box B has now used 90% of its space. 18/10

Box A willl always be inferior to Box B. But when they are improved, box A will always be better since the leap is 10% to 5% in relative to 6% to 4%.

In the scenario box A is ranger and warrior is box B. Ranger has more effectiveness in scaling because ranger has lowest output. If you are looking at no, obviously ranger lost out since ranger will never be able to outdo the other class due to their fix coefficient.

You can’t measure effectiveness by no. If you are looking at benefit then it has to be percentage increase. Isn’t this thread is all about the effectiveness of transcending from exo to ascended?

Of those 5 apples, ranger got $1.75 for each. He is now $8.75 better off. Warrior, on the other hand, managed to sell his apples for $2.30. He’s now $11.50 better off! See what happens when you add those coefficients to the math?

I give up. Please QQ ranger. No point playing the worst class. If you are not playing it already then just ignore my post.

Jacks, from a pure % number sure if the ranger gets his 80/100 (cause we have a pet that makes up the other 20%) stats buffed by 10% ascended (lets say) and a warrior gets his 100/100% stats buffed by 10%, then sure they both go up by 10%. However, if you don’t see the difference between 10% of 100 and 10% of 80 then how are we to discuss this further?

Or am I missing you’re point?

Sure there are a host of other variables, which pet do you have out? What is the pets primary job? There are dps pets, there are pets that don’t dps as much but give other benefits?

Problems still exist in that percentage figure all else being equal.

The pet is the key. How they choose to figure out how to “ascend” the pet is on them. Could make it a behind the scene’s change in that for every ascended piece a ranger places into a gear slot, a bump in pet stats corresponds. Or they can make pet gear that we can acquire, (bad idea but its not my game). Or Anet can give all gear going onto a ranger a higher stat bump to make up the difference in the pet not getting buffed (bad idea, will make the pet fall even farther down the useless mechanic chain).

Pets were balanced to Exotic Gear, sadly they are not balanced for gear beyond. That is too bad and one more failing of the Ranger class. At least until a Dev comes on here to tell us we are wrong and they do have a plan in place.

Edit: Sadly, this could be yet one more reason not to play a Ranger.

I never attack first in a JP but outside of them it’s on.

If attacked inside a JP, if I down you, you might as well leave for 30 minutes to an hour because I will farm you. This goes for anyone I see attacking my server mates as well UNLESS I see my server mate attack first, in which case it isn’t my concern.

I have no remorse for people who grief in JP’s and no matter what server you are on, I will stand over your corpse and spam /laugh when you die.

Hey its not griefing. It’s intended.

That’s great… So the game comes out with a story line you need to run to an OFF gw site to look at completing. How is this even possible. I’ve been playing MMO’s since Diablo first came out, longer than most I would venture to say, and this game without exception is the worst at explaining what’s happening in world events in game.

Yes, guys, thanks for the clarifications above, my Ranger is running +healing armor set while my Warrior is not. That is the difference I’m seeing. Totally forgot about that.

Shield skills

I’m also condition built, but I don’t find the shield all that useful. I prefer to kite, so it is basically Bow all the way while I circle dumb NPC mobs. I can fight 5-6 mobs in this fashion. No need to put a shield on. However, I do sometimes swap to sword/horn for the sword stacks and the sword F1, in combo with the Bow, it sure adds a bunch of ticks.

However, I do not find the off hand shield to be of more use to me than a horn as moving around saves a ton of time, plus the horn give me the field blast. So, shield looks cool on a Warrior but that’s about it. IMHO.

I expected nothing and still was disappointed.

Instance = Killing some mobs, then a champ you can kill naked with green weapons, no story

Tower Event = running from one event to another that require no challenge or skills, just boring after 3 ones. What is the purpose of a big tower if you cannot enter it? Maybe that will change. Probably a dungeon.

Witches = kill them three times, no mechanics. I was hoping for some boss fight here. More waiting to spawn then anything else.

Obelisk Hunt = nice, as you can see them from far away, the first scavenger hunt I enjoyed. Although the Veterans guarding the obelisks get a bit annoying.

Cleaning Spore Corrupted Mobs = maeh, running Queensdale Champ train, as this is too random. Boring, grindy.

New skins = don’t like them. But sure some people have use for them.

New Skill = worthless at the moment – we’ll see. Probably if toxin concentration will spread out to in the future it could be of use.

New Receipes = have no use for them, but some might have and might even enjoy the grind here. At least the receips offer you to do something with the bloodstone dust.

Visual Appeal = seems rushed, tons of re-used elements from Tequatl 2.0. New Krait are nice though, but same lame mechanics as before, meaning none. At least something would have been nice.

Toxic Effect = can’t even describe how lame this is gameplay and visual style wise. Yeah, the sound effects are nice when you hear them the first time. After that it’s just annoyig. Also has zero impact on playing and can be completly ignored.

But at least something is changing, hope changes don’t just go away but we finally get some permanent impact on the world.

All in all just another fill-in, still hoping because of some bigger works going on. 14 days release cycle is too ambitious and I expected some rushed patches while working on something more profound ones.

Basically I was done with all of this patch in a couple of hours. Nothing to explore, no interesting rewards. Moving on.

At least Anet didn’t require us to do to 250 spore events or collect 1000 spores. So at least not a total boring grind, just boring.

Story line has me totally lost… I read this guy’s retort and feel even more lost. No clue I had to do so many different things. Nothing in the single player instance led me to any of those other events. Brought my 5 spores to the NPC and ???? That was it? Saw some commander pins ran around with them killing mobs, noticed they were getting something at a obelisk recharged but I didn’t have what ever it was they were recharging… Killed some things… ran around a bit and left.

Still after reading the above have zero clue how to proceed.

Give the patch a 2 out of 10.

Rangers need a burst ability as well… As is we can do sustained dps, but don’t have an ability to burst, like every other class.

Achievements causing friction

Add to it, the fact that there is only 1 Eternal Battleground in which you have take a castle 5 times and those camps. I’ve been on EB once so far this season, it is by FAR the longest que, because these two achievements can only be done in there.

Edit: Here is a fix… Turn the EB into an overflow, worth nothing to any world, but a place where you can fight others and farm.

I could care less about fighting at the jump puzzles, what I’ve seen so far is a bunch of frustrated Red’s trying to complete the dumb thing… So aggravated, the notion of fighting each other isn’t even a thought on anyone’s mind.

In 2 days I’ve spent 2 hours completing 2 jump puzzles… Something about my connection short jumps me every other or third time I jump… Real frustrating. Yet, I’m stuck trying to do these idiotic things cause of the wvw achievement I want.
