Trenchcoats for Light and Heavy armors

I think Anet is trying to revive ESports. Having the system prefer higher ranked players to win means you’ll have a group of players who can then claim to be the best of the best. Then you put those best of the best players against each other, and you get top ESports stream viewers.

My cousin came into my room and told me he beat his record and finished his Diamond chest on Sunday night thanks to Outnumbered buffs. And while I’m thankful for the buff, it made me realize something. The +5 doubles your Pip generation, which means you get chests done twice as fast. If there was no Outnumbered buff, it would take until Wednesday or Thursday at his play rate to complete the Skirmish chests. This is basically a fulltime job.

So with my sober mind fresh and awake, I’d like to make a suggestion. Let’s do away with the Outnumbered buff, and just double the Pip generation. It would make rewards feel less like a grind for servers who can’t get Outnumbered.

Edit – Yes I agree that there’s nothing currently wrong with Pips. But now I feel compelled to compete with a family member in farming. So my suggestion is admittedly self serving.

[Idea] Ping restrictions for Ranked

Natto.5819

A lot of people dislike AFKers in Ranked matches. But another issue is people who DC before or even during a match. Problems can range from poor computer to bad ISP. And this doesn’t just affect the person who DC’d. It hurts his entire team if he keeps reconnecting before the 2 minute timer.

My idea is to create ping restrictions. If your connection is really bad, your ping will reach over 300. When it starts to spike higher, that’s a good indicator that you’ll DC. So, to prevent unintentional losses for all 5 players on a team, Anet should prevent the DCing player from entering a match. I’m thinking a round number like 500 as a test run. If any player’s ping hits 500, they’re automatically prevented from joining a Ranked match. If a player’s ping hits 500 mid match, they get kicked out (no dishonor), and the teammates won’t lose any MMR if they lose.

PIPs acquisition have to be revised

There’s nothing wrong with pips. My cousin finished the Diamond chest late Monday.

Maybe this was /s, but if not….. If he/she was max ranked on a winning server playing outnumbered that would be about 8 hours playtime. If he/she was a new player on a losing server it would be 120 hours, which is by some considerable margin, literally……impossible! For most players, averaging maybe 4 pips a tick (he was playing before the change to commitment bonus) that’s 30 hours and that would be pretty unhealthy in 3 days, not so great in a week. The same average player could more than halve that time by hanging around in spawn and killing a guard every 5 mins, rather than actually playing the game! The new player could reduce his time from 120 hrs to 24 (less than the average player, playing normally) by ‘spawn farming’.

The figures are a bit different now with the new, easy to get, commitment bonus, but not that significantly.

I actually think pips and the whole Skirmish Chest system is great, but some adjustments to narrow the disparities seems sensible.

His account is on Tarnish Coast. He said his EBG in late NA is Outmanned at times. But due to low coverage, there’s always 1 or even 2 BLs Outmanned late. Just keep participation at max, and you score a lot of pips. He would post, but his account was put on a permanent timeout from the forums.

In many matches, one Ele player can get Top Damage, Top Kills, and Top Heals. I know Anet balances this game a lot, so it makes me wonder how one player can do so much on both offense and defense. Shouldn’t a player only exceed in one aspect for balance sake?

Queen Jenna identity [spoilers]

Natto.5819

But her past, combined with Anet writers, show that it’s entirely plausible that the gods left the human world hundreds of years ago, but decided to come back now that the Elder Dragons pose a threat.

Queen Jenna is powerful, but didn’t show her true power until just a couple of months ago because she had no choice. In lore, she could have protected herself, but instead called Logan to defend her. I take that as trying to hide her powers back then to avoid showing the world how powerful she is, which would make people wonder where she got all that magical strength from.

Side note, I’m told that I keep misspelling her name. No, I just refuse to add the “h”, because it makes me want to pronounce it. Just like with Cool Wip, it’s just a personal preference..

Still can't understand WvW matchmaking

in WvW

Natto.5819

I decided to be sober all weekend so that I could study and understand Anet’s matchmaking in WvW. After a three days, I’m still confused. Maguuma is the #2 server, but we’re placed in tier 3. Crystal Desert and Tarnish Coast is #9 and #10, and they’re in tier 2.

Each server in the top 10 is with a ~100 ratings difference, so on paper anyone could face each other in any given week. But the population difference in the top 10 is no where near each other. Even with linking, my friend says that Tarnish Coast was outmanned in EBG in NA timezone.

Using Einstein’s formula of special relativity, I’ve determined the cause of the matchmaking problems in both WvW and PvP:
E = mc*2/[1-v*2/c*2]*1/2

m = Anet attention to WvW
c = Anet attention to PvP
v = velocity of players wondering if matchmaking works

therefore E = broken

Now here’s the solution to the current problems. There needs to be a hard reset on all matchmaking ratings. Gecko, MMR, whatever. Scrap all points, and start over. If you create a new system, even better.

It makes sense for Lyssa to hide herself as the queen. rather than a peasant. Can you imagine the attention it would bring to have a mesmer peasant casting spells more powerful than the sitting monarch? At least as the queen, Lyssa doesn’t have to make excuses to hide her powers.

As for mortals using powerful spells, there are cases in lore that prove it to be true, but there’s also sacrifices. Without using alternative means to power up, mortals who push their magic beyond reason get hurt. Xera keeps coming up as more powerful than Queen Jenna. Not so. She’s just tapping into the bloodstones that were meant for Lazarus. When I watched the raid videos, the fight is one big illusion. Xera is larger than life, and the buildings physically changing is just another illusion.

Queen Jenna could very well be using a bloodstone or keystone to give her powers that extra kick, but there’s nothing to show her absorbing the bloodstone magics while she’s casting. It could be the reason why she doesn’t wear shoes, so she can absorb it through her feet. But still, there are also risks to absorbing and using a lot of bloodstone magic. Being a leader without an heir, I don’t think the storylines would have her risk her body until she gave birth to Logan’s child. Which leads to another reason why the real Queen Jenna is probably safe behind the scenes.

Side note – we’re getting Menzies related items, which could be a sign that Balthazar is still fighting with his brother. If that leads to FoW, the hype would be insane.

“Preparations” could imply many things. Getting help from other mesmers or guardians in her court, tapping into the keystone, or even asking a god for divine blessings. But the writers decided to go with a god disguising himself to interact with humans. And with that, they opened the door to the possibility of the queen being fake too.

For the bloodstones being the magic battery that fills the world with magic, that would bring up more questions about the human gods and the Elder Dragons. If the dragons have been around for eons longer than the Six, what was their purpose? The Six gave magic to the world later on. If they didn’t come to Tyria, the Elder Dragons would have nothing to consume. Unless they consumed each other’s magic, which would be a silly direction for Anet to take the lore. Can you imagine each dragon sitting in a circle, endlessly taking from one and giving to the next?

You bring up good points. I’ll have to go back and look further into the Dragons to see my thoughts on lore are still cannon.

For Malchor, I’m going off of memory here. He’s actually one of the few mortals that was able to see each of the gods. He sculpted all of them, and fell in love with Dwayna’s beauty over Lyssa. Being a mortal, he couldn’t handle being in a relationship with a god, and went insane. He and Dwayna had a child, Grenth, who later ascended to godhood.

For Queen Jenna being one of the Lyssa twins, or both taking turns being her, again it’s not out of the realm of possibilities. With how Lyssa is naturally, disguising herself as a mortal to help humanity can be cannon, and the real Queen Jenna could be in on the whole idea. Her extraordinary powers could be supplemented directly from Lyssa’s blessing, by bloodstone/keystone, or Lyssa might even step in at the right moments to cast powerful spells to protect the people.

You’ve also ignored my previous point – the dragons aren’t even draining magic from Tyria at a rate that is greater than replenishment. It’s a pretty big stretch to say that they’re then able to drain the gods to almost nothing through some tenuous link to Tyria that probably doesn’t even exist.

Sorry I didn’t address this thought. Magic doesn’t seem like something organic that can grow and expand on it’s own, like a blood cell for instance. I feel that magic is replenished due to the Six’s connection to Tyria. They left the world, but still fill it with their magic in a way similar to how Regeneration boons refill player HP. Elder Dragons absorbed the world’s magic as they slept, and would take in a lot more when they came out of hibernation.

The Six and the Elder Dragons are the typical Ying and Yang. The Jedi and Sith. Republican and Democrat. Polar opposites, yet they bring balance to the whole. With the Commander slowly killing Elder Dragons one by one, the potential storylines to follow would be too much magic in the world.

Perhaps Lyssa took the form of Queen Jenna to observe this first hand? Kormir is the god of knowledge, so maybe she foresaw this and felt someone should go watch. Not Dwayna though, because she entranced Malchor and would probably be a distraction to humans if they kept killing themselves over her. Grenth is probably mad that Dwayna got his father killed, and will stay in the Underworld until maybe expansion 4. Melandru is just a female Trahearne, old and wise, but probably the less useful of the Six.

The Six left the human world, yet their powers are still felt. That, coming from Anet, indicates that just being in the Mists doesn’t mean their magic is contained. Think of radiation from a nuclear rod. You put it in a normal plastic air tight container, and the energy still goes through. I feel magic from the gods acts in this sense. They’re on another plain of existence, and yet magic coming from them passes through dimensions. Going off this idea is where I believe that the Elder Dragons can in fact consume a part of the Six’s powers.

*note – I know that thick enough material can contain radiation. My point being that being separated by some type of physical object doesn’t mean you stop it from going through.

As for dues ex machina, I was saying that I have faith that Anet wouldn’t write themselves into too deep kitten to have to rely on one later. Yes the story got complicated by Balthazar appearing as a Laz, but to throw in too many angles lore-wise, and a writer’s option is to either use a dues ex machina to save himself, or kick the can further down the story, and hope readers forget about the complications.

Going back to Lyssa, it is written in lore that she cares about humans. She thinks differently from the other gods. If Anet says the Six left the world to let humans fend for themselves, Lyssa is the only person who’d probably step back in while the others would be focused on something else.

I get the sense that Elder Dragons consume magic, like we breathe oxygen. They just absorb it from the world. Sure Zhaitan ate magic items, but I think that was more like a supplement to speed up his power levels. Like Goku and Vegeta eating those beans to gain his strength back.

It seems that with the Elder Dragons slowly waking up, they absorb more and more magic from the world. The Six probably had their magic slowly drained over time, as that is their connection to our world. Think of a water balloon that’s not tied tight. The water may drip out 1 drop at a time, but 200 years later, the water balloon is half the size.

Balthazar himself said that he had his powers taken. He wanted it back, so he went after Jormag and Primordus to take theirs. Yes he never says directly who took his powers, but one can safely assume that it would take a strong enemy to do so. For this, I’m leaning towards the Elder Dragons and their natural ability to inhale magical energies. Another option could be Balthazar’s brother Menzies somehow took his powers, but I don’t think Anet would make the story that complicated.

The Elder Dragon route makes the most sense, lore-wise and storytelling-wise. They consume magic, which could lead to the Six being weakened. It could also explain why no one has seen or heard from them in hundreds of years. But if another option like Menzies is explained, that would be too bad, since it could also bring back the Fissure of Woe.

Lastly, I have faith that Anet writers wouldn’t pull a deus ex machina on us. They wouldn’t let the story get too complicated to have to rely on that.

I just retouched on who Lyssa is, and it seems I misunderstood a key part of who she is. Lyssa isn’t the combination of 2 people, but rather a set of twin goddesses who are referred to as one being. Also looking into events of the Cathedral of Eternal Radiance, it’s also stated in lore that Lyssa isn’t dead. Combine with Elder Dragon lore, we know that the gods were weakened because the dragons consume magic.

Looking back to Queen Jenna, she is either one of the Lyssa twins, or BOTH Ilya and Lyss disguise themselves as the queen, and the real Jenna is safe somewhere in the floating wizard castle (new theory!). The power to confuse Elder Dragon minions, the power to create extraordinary barriers, it all points to a being with god-like powers.

Keep in mind that Lyssa is different from the other gods. Her focus is to help humans and make them happy.

You’ve never answered the pertinent question. Was this ‘fictional’ character AFK-farming or not? No matter if said character broke the 3 rules or not?

If in this ‘fictitious’ scenario, the character was only AFK, and not using any skills, whatsoever (as you seem to want to imply, as Auto-cast Skill #1 won’t cast without a target), why not just say, “I believe my account was unfairly actioned as an AFK-farmer, when I was just AFK”, instead of saying you interpreted the rules to mean you could farm in this spot because you did not break all 3 rules?

The whole scenario is suspect.

Again, were you, or were you not AFK-farming?

I think he just wants us to test his theories in game so he doesn’t get into more trouble. And he can’t complain that he was unfairly actioned, since that is against forum rules, which is why he’s talking about a “fictional situation” to get around that rule. If you “fictionally” AFK farm, then you should be “fictionally” punished.

You also seem to misread rule 1: Using skill while AFK. It doesn’t matter what skill you have on autocast. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. There is no anomaly since Anet watches you before punishing.

Last night, I saw a Rev teleport across a cap point, then leap back half way and drop a purple pizza. The condition damage melted everyone.
