There’s this button you can press. It’s default is [B] I believe. When you press that button, it lets you see what your opponent’s team comp is.
Before you start the match, you have about a minute to spare. This is known as the “Warm up”. You can run around the map to familiarize yourself with it, or spend that time strategizing with your team. You can also use that time to press B and see your opponents team and switch as needed.
Once the gates close and the 10 second timer begins, you can no longer swap characters.
I hope that helps, feel free to ask me any more questions if you need. I’m always happy to help newcomers to the game and PvP
Once again, why lock profs when prof stacking is not addressed?
But professions aren’t locked. Or at least, they’re not locked before the game starts. So why would they care about professions stacking when everyone is free to swap classes?
If you want to be a cheating cheater who swaps midgame, that’s another story.
Because you don’t know what builds enemy runs or your own team sometimes. If swapping mid match is cheating why didn’t whole pvp community not get banned for “cheating” since we all have been doing it for years now?
Once again, give me one good reason why profs should be locked during the match when prof stacking is not addressed.Because people used it to cheese the dailies and especially the achievements. That was not as intended and Anet doesn’t ban every cheater; especially when it’s so prevalent. They just change things up to prevent exploits.
Same reason why they didn’t ban every ranger who abused the unblockable SoW bug or Guards who abused the damage modifier bug.
Ok, then i think prof stacking is exploiting and should be fixed. Why is Anet not addressing it?
Somewhere GM said they won’t fix that, since you can switch character before match.
I think GM say you can’t switch character in the middle of a match now to prevent easy achievement with characters you didn’t play with. So if you’re strong on Warrior, you can’t use that to score a lot, then switch to Thief and get credits.
So you need to switch before match starts.
Last season, I was Tier 3 Gold with my Ranger and pet. I don’t have HoT. If I purchase it, will I be able to make Platinum? I try hard to fight, and I can’t win into Platinum. People in game say that I lose because I’m core.
HoT Ranger looks strong because he throws staff and can disapear. But my longbow is strong too.
Yes. When teams is selected, you can switch. If match is started, then you can’t. So if your team argue too long on who will switch, you stuck.
You can still switch characters.
My cousin confirmed this last night on account. If teammate leaves game, and your team is lose 4 v 5, you lose Placement and Ratings Points match this season. So now people can use lesser alt accounts to punish others by DC on purpose, or help friends on other team.
Be careful. If you anger teammates and they leave, that too will affect Placement match. Treat everyone kindly, and you don’t suffer!

In PvP, my team was all high rank players, but one Guardian kept killing everyone fast. They complained about his burn conditions, then I experience it too. So much burning. So now I want to make this. What is proper build for Burn Ghardian? If it can take out Gold and Plat rank players, then it must be good.
I wanted to transfer to BlackGate, but now I’m rethinking if they causing material prices to drop.
I’m in T3 Gold, and I play lots of Gold and Plat players. I notice my team make bad decisions. In one match I lost, 4 of my team was fighting 1 Guardian at our close base. The enemy took all 3 bases, because my whole team was fighting away from base. I died against 3 enemy at middle.
Here’s the sadness. They didn’t kill the Guadian until after I came back alive.
If you’re in Gold or Plat ranked, I think you should be good at playing. Who thinks it’s smart to all attack 1 person at this level?
If you want be viable, you need to buy Heart of Thorns.
I was told on TeamSpeak that BlackGate all transferred to Maguuma. But when I try to transfer to BlackGate, it’s still full. Does the server take a while before the free slots open to the public?
Some look like little girls. Is that wrong?
Please keep it closed, ty…
Why? Anet say your server is smaller than CD+DH+DR. There needs to be balance in game.
I tried again, and BlackGate is still locked. Why can’t I join? Players are saying they need roaming help.
Please don’t open BG server. I am on BG server and we need the wall to keep all these zerg players out. They will dilute the skill level on BG. BG needs more roamers.
I can be roamer. I play as Staff Guardian and double dagger Thief. I follow Commander Dods, so that makes me skilled. He is the #1 player in NA.
Hello Anet. Please open BlackGate. I miss my chance to transfer there, because now it full. I would like to be on a good server. Players say it would be good for balance.
I took a break for several months, and I come back to weird WvW. Servers that used to be good are not good any more. And where did commander Dods transfer to? Dods is best leader.
Tim Buckley sums up what players did to GW2 Raids!
Isn’t it better if everyone is happy? Why not allow all players to access exclusive content rewards?
I have some ideas for PvP. I’m not sure if this was suggested yet, but wouldn’t it be a good idea if Anet awarded Pip Tokens when you won ranked matches? That way when you’re ready to rank up levels, you can choose to do so when you want. That way, if you stay in Amber division, and keep gaining Pip Tokens until you’re ready to level to Legendary. You can avoid Ruby division, because there are a lot of complaints about competition.
Also, Pip Tokens could help a player make money because then you could trade it with other players, or even sell it on the Trading Post market.
Another way the Pip Tokens could work is if you’re losing a match, you can double click on 250 tokens to get 100 points for your team and win the match.
I am not good at jumping puzzles, but it seems the Super Adventure Box is one big hard mode jumping puzzle. My friends tell me that it awards you unique weapons for completing Tribulation Mode. I watch vido on Youtube, and it looks hard. But I want the weapons. Can Anet please put in alternate way to get Tribulation Mode tokens? My friend Ohoni says that it would be fair for all players to be able to get rewards in the game in multiple ways. That way, there’s nothing exclusive. What do you think?
yeah lets restrict ppl to only play the current meta
lawl
I don’t have Heart of Thorns. Does that mean I cannot play Ranked anymore?
I think Stealth is more OP than Greatswords.
If I paid $100 for a game, why should I be LIMITED in my ability to enjoy and play it? That makes no sense.
Trade and commerce are CORE features of an MMO. For many people they are the primary interaction they have with other players – especially if they primarily solo.
There is no excuse for limiting this basic functionality for non-free accounts.
My account is 10+ years old, has all GW1 expansions purchased, and HoT premium purchased.
There is no gold seller/spammer protection from limiting an account like this.
You want to stop gold spam? Give players the ability to put level/age based filters on global chat channels. Easy. Done.
Gold sellers aren’t going to drop $100 on HoT and find multi-year old accounts just so they can gold spam. That’s not feasible.
This is a really stupid, anti-new player idea that ArenaNet should be embarrassed by.
This single “feature” is huge enough that I really have no reason to tell any friends to play this game. I don’t want to have to explain why they can’t engage in commerce.
You had a GW1 account for 10 years? How come you no have a GW2 account until 4 years after it came out? Why you even mad at the rules? You have a new account, so like me, you have nothing to send anyway. And if you don’t have money, you can’t buy from the TP too. I only have a few gold, and I intend to save it than give to someone else.
Tell your kids to play the game together. You get stuff along the way.
If I did this, can I get in trouble? I don’t have much gold since I don’t play often.
Does anyone know why this troll guild was reinvited back into Raid Beta? I really don’t want to see them brag about being Worlds First for the new wing.
Blind spam will counter all Thieves, since they don’t have much condi clear.
I wanted to theory-craft on PvP strategy. Would blind skills be enough to counter melee character? Many people saying Thief and Warrior is OP, but if they can’t hit you, then wouldn’t that make them weak?
I think people just chose to be emo about random stuff
Quoting for relevance.
OH MY GOSH GUYS YOU ARENT LISTENING. Pay-To-Win was just a title thing i came up with because i thought in some aspect it was.
WHAT I really was trying to say was they need to balance the powers of the expansion players and the powers of regular player by either boosting or nerfing some of the classes
So, you made a click bait thread and now you wanna get upset that you have people who came to this thread with their opinions formed before they read a single word?
Welcome to the internet.
no i didn’t make a click bait thread. its just a title because i thought it was in some way pay-to-win. but people are focusing more on the definition of “pay2win” than actually reading the description which i clearly stated was about paid players making pvp unbalanced
You are just bad player? I think you’d still lose if you have HoT. I don’t have HoT, but I win.
How do you get that much gold in game?
I am a fan of Tim Buckley from Ctrl+Alt+Del (www.cad-comic.com) and found one of this comics to represent things that happen here. I think he is a smart gamer.
And that’s my point. Most rare things I’ve seen are crashing, most notably crafting materials.
The point some ppl in this thread seem to ignore is that dungeons were the absolute highest liquid gold generated in game. The sw farm excuse falls on its face since the farm does not generate gold only mats and items. So with less ways to get gold = lower prices on everything which is good but screws over ppl who earned their items for sale at the tp that will now cost them to relist and at a much lower price. My main gripe here is that, soon ppl who spend real money for gems to gold conversion, will have more gold than players who dont. That creates pay to win scenario which in gw2 would be pay to skin.
What you keep ignoring is that overall gold faucets havent been nerfed, they have been shifted to content that anet will focus its development ressources on in the future, for example fractals and raids.
They expect a higher percentage of the player base to participate in that content compared to the players that used to run dungeons.
So even though individual gold rewards for people that used to run dungeons might get nerfed, the overall gold supply will stay the same because many more players will earn more gold rewards from playing their favourite content.
Lol shifted? A dungeon tour yielded 50g a frac daily run is 5g your math is wrong bud.
Not if 10 more players run fractals for every player running dungeons in the past.
Look, John SMith made a Q&A on reddit after he put the blogpost about economical changes, where he explained this.
You should check it out
Meh.. Im not a sheep and im calling as im seeing it. Goals are pointless with poor or wrong execution.
I love GW2 and have faith the devs want the best in general but opinions shouldnt be biased based on attachment to someone or what/who they are.
I agree with you. Anet should give us Precursors for free since we paid real money for this game.
The tears in this thread…
I would much rather Anet give us all Precursors, since we paid for this game.
You are definitely entitled to skins you desire….as long as you earn them, luck bestows them on you, or you purchase them. Just like everyone else.
Good luck.
How can I earn them if I can’t play the raid to get them? My guild is a WvW guild. The quetion is why can’t I just have the skin I want? Don’t I deserve to be happy?
I understand a company has to make money, so I’m not against selling skins in the store. I’m talking about free gear and skins you get as rewards.
If you lock gear and skin behind raids, maybe you can make it easier for everyone to do? That way everyone can still get what they want. I don’t have many friends in game, so I can’t do raids. I have a guild, but they don’t talk to me. We not close like people in my class.
I have an idea to make WvW more fun. Why not let your own catapults and trebuchet damage your own gate and walls in towers and keep? I seen many times the enemy puts a treb behind a gate to hurt rams outside. If the damage goes through the gate, why isn’t the gate hurt too? If I punch my own wall in my house to kill a roach, I kill the roach and make hole in the wall. That should be how it work in game too!
To prevent players from trolling, if you break your own gate and wall, you get a temporary 1 hour ban from WvW. That makes the idea balanced!
I would like to talk about being entitled to gear and skins. My good friend Ohoni has good idea on how players should get all items in this game. He’s the best player in this game, because he understands how all games should be. Is it fair for good players to have rare items? What is the purpose of giving rewards to only the good players? I’m not good, but I want the items too. I did pay for this game, so shouldn’t I get access to the same items? Since the gear doesn’t make me better, and skin is only for looks, doesn’t that mean I deserve to have them too?
My idea is that the free players shouldn’t get the best gear and skins, because they didn’t pay for the game. I paid for the game, so that means I helped the company with my money. I want backpack skin. I want the fancy sword that glows with the night sky. Shouldn’t all players be able to have what they want? When everyone is happy, the game is better!
Since you cant opt out of playing with beta content like reaper rev, etc. You can no longer queue pvp without running into beta content.
Personally, I absolutely can not stand beta tests. I dont like dealing with balance problems or bugs. I never sign up for beta tests for anything. Why am I unable to choose to participate in this? I want to pvp without the stupid beta stuff.
Allow us to select whether or not we want to play with beta content forgodssake
I fought the new characters in PvP. If you can’t handle them now, then you can’t handle them when the game is live.
You guys need to leave Ohoni alone. It’s bad enough he can’t do the content for his skin. He knows more about this game than all of you combine.
I understand why the restriction is there: to stop gold sellers and to make free play as uncomfortable as possible so people will buy the game, but….
if new players can’t ask for help, they’re going to be turned off of the game real quick.
They can pay for the full game, and full access to the game then?
Or they can immediately get discouraged and quit.
You just downloaded the game, have no idea how to play, you have questions. The chat box is unavailable, there’s no indication that you can whisper people, you can’t make friends if you can’t talk — how do you even respond to guild recruitments?
First impression: not good.
If you didn’t spend any money on the game you have no real incentive to go any further. You just chalk it up as a waste of time and quit
…maybe even telling a few irl friends that you can’t even communicate (in an MMO!) if you don’t buy the game. The words P2W probably comes up (though not literally accurate) because if you put basic features behind a paywall those are the words that come to mind.
I paid $10 for this game. If a player who didn’t pay for anything wants the perks of my account, then they have to pay. They can wait for a sale while enjoying game. $10 is the cost of a lunch. Players who don’t want to pay even that can’t complain.
If they quit, how does that hurt the game? They paid nothing. Game loose nothing.
Really short sighted.
You do lose. New players are what keeps an MMO alive. There’s a lot of turnover and if players who’ve quit don’t get replaced, you end up playing by yourself. It’s already happened: that’s why we have megaservers right now.
You can restrict F2P players, but if you do it too much, they quit immediately. No chat is too restrictive.
I paid $10 for the game. That money goes to the company. Free players who don’t pay don’t support the company. If they quit, the game is still here for me to enjoy. I don’t want to play with freeloaders begging for free stuff.
Not sure why you QQ, since you is a long time player. Restrictions on a FREE game make sense. If not, then why would anyone pay for this game?
(edited by Natto.5819)
…..you’re lv 10 and you’re complaining that the game is too easy? That’s like saying a game is too easy when you only played the tutorial, what the heck did you expect?
MMOs aren’t for you OP, it’s as simple as that if you think this game is too easy when you pretty much did nothing but a tutorial.
I wasn’t aware that when I was lvl 9, I was still undergoing a “tutorial”, nor was there anything to bring awareness to that fact either. At level 9 in most other games, you’re actually “doing something” and not being tutored still. Just thought I’d state that fact.
Young players are spoiled. They need to be holding hands until lv 40, or they flood the internet with QQ. If GW2 was Nintendo hard, there would be less than half the population now. I say suck it up until you’re 20 levels higher. Try new maps and see what it’s like. Or you can go to a lv 20 map as a level 9, and see the QQ flow.
So after gathering 3 pages of opinions about the game, this is what someone may conclude from all the posts:
A) The majority of folks who talked about the difficulty said it was easy, even 80+ in the end game.
B) A couple others said that the game doesn’t begin to get difficult until lvl 80 and reach end-game content.
Let’s think about this logically for a second folks. At what point does the game begin to get challenging? The end game. Read that again. “At the end of the game”. You spend X amount of hours to reach the “end of the game” and then it “begins” to be challenging, with many saying that the content is still easy? That’s horrible. And the suggestions to make it challenging? Kill stuff with no armor. Essentially, I have to alter the course of the game in a way to make it challenging, by either seeking out stuff that is way outside of my level (to glimpse a fear of dying and semblance), or stripping myself of armor and looking like an un-aesthetic buttsore. Anyone seeing the disconnect like I am?
C) Heart of Thorns, the new expansion, will provide more challenging content, but again, only at the “end of the game”, and is viewed as a very “small” expansion anyway.
……
I think it’s safe to say that Guild Wars is really a noob game for casual players. If I don’t have a fear of dying (at all) and a sense of danger, that is going to completely kill immersion, and having to “alter” my basic gameplay significantly to try to have a better experience will kill immersion too.
What I don’t understand is how online reviews (like this one: http://www.pcgamer.com/guild-wars-2-review/) Are not accounting for any of this mind-numbing un-immersive boringness. Did something change from it’s release in 2012 to now?
There are many players who QQ over a simple jumping puzzle because jumping is hard. The game is easy in the beginning to get you used to playing. Once you learn, then the game is harder. Wait until level 40 to 50, and try to solo all things then. You notice harder fights, but good players still get though.
I understand why the restriction is there: to stop gold sellers and to make free play as uncomfortable as possible so people will buy the game, but….

Maguuma humble? LOL……
i think mag seems worse than they really are because we’ve been fighting them for so long. every server has terds. mag has so many havoc guilds that brag about skill, but most run mesmer cheese specs and will 3-5v1 the solo roamers. Is SBI better though? We dont have many havoc guilds, but we will send a pug zerg to kill 1 guy taking a camp. It’s all meh.
Only thing that I find really disheartening is Obs (mag commander) live-streaming himself in SBI TS while ganking us (which he then posted on this forum), and the matchup has gone on so long that the spying is getting pretty awful. its an everyday occurrence.
T3 is pretty balanced, but it was a lot better before all the GvG from T2 transferred in. Maybe they will stop taking up queue space when guild halls come out, but I doubt guild halls will match the large, interesting and varied environments they will want to fight in.
Maguuma doesn’t spy. Nice try friend.
Kevin Smith plays
Its time to make friends who are good at this game. Then you don’t have to worry about fining raid partners.
If you mean close in PPT, sure.
That’s only because Maguuma doesn’t play for points. If we did, we would be fighting in Tier 1. We are humble players that pay with honor. If we don’t control ourself and hold back, all servers would cry at our power level.
