All your going to hear is that its not as good, which it isn’t. However the maim shatter builds are very interesting and fun. I use maim during hotjoin almost exclusively atm just for the fun factor(never for team play). My experience in WvW is limited but I would say it looks fine, test the crap out of it and see if YOU like it. Everything skcamow has said is correct however ultimately we play to have fun, so play what you like.

I use exactly what Wyrden uses for spvp, super fun, prefect troll build imo. This is a Anti-boon version I have been messing with, very fun and perfect for trolling. I would say that none of the maim builds are very good for team play though.
Certain skills and effects cannot be evaded, they include:
Skills with area denial purposes: Line of Warding, Ring of Warding, Unsteady Ground, Static Field, Temporal Curtain’s cripple, and many others.
Passive effects that trigger when the enemies are attacked: Retaliation, Auras
Certain environmental traps/events/objects; e.g. Direct Lightning of Skyhammer —wiki
Ya pve mobs tend not to give a kitten about confusion, however I would argue that there are still use for it in pvp, lots of condi builds out atm. Increased duration,proc on blind, that sort of thing, try one of the build under any of the torment threads. Not the most viable team builds but super fun.

+1, this has to be gone. Still see too many players multi-capping etc.
And after that players will still multicap anyway, because many of them enter just for daily achievement, which requires you to (multi)cap nodes.
Good point! Should be simple to remove that daily, how about you guys start with that.
Any changes to make players understand that multi-capping is bad is a start, redoing the whole thing only leaves space for you guys to mess it up. How about baby steps?

Just a fun factor trait atm, would never use it for team play. Might not be the best for folks new to mesmer. Instead of starting with maim maybe try using an IP build so you can work into different shatter builds.

this is what i use for spvp, might adjust some stuff depending on the map. I use thievery for a condi clear which if your new to mesmer you may want to grab mender purity or mantra cleanse. Thievery tends to be a little buggy, tons of fun though.

ok power vitality condi damage gear with no sigils of energy in a main shatter build? try rabid and energy sigils. Have you tried this at all? Just curious.
no clone production in a main shatter build, the scepter cd is garbage(only lowers confusing images), and i think there is an icd on the blind/glamor thing. Your missing crit bleeds and crit vigor. Personally I would go down dueling.

This is what I use in spvp, pyro is right as much as I hate it, the maim trait is crap next to IP. The maim builds are super fun though, honestly haven’t had this much fun in spvp in close to 8 months. I know its not the best but it works and its fun. Win/Win
I would like to see bugs fixed that have been around since launch, not new stuff for them to break.
The trouble with torment shatter is that it just doesn’t give you something worth shattering. Your clones are better spent proccing on death traits than the torment shatter. You’ll get more stacks of damaging conditions, you don’t have to waste 30 points into illusions, and clone death traits can’t be blocked and dodged like shatters can.
Show me any torment shatter build, and I’ll show you a build that does it better with clone death.
Torment shatter is very fun to play though. I wish it were viable, but the fact is that it is not, any build using that trait is inherently weak.

This purely from a PvP perspective …
OP – I’ve run a very similar trait spread for a few days now after over a week of experimenting with BD builds. I thought about sharing it after getting some good in-game feedback but I’m not 100% confident in it yet (still testing).
I’ve run a boon share, power based and IP based build with BD but I can say that this condition spec here is the strongest BD build I’ve run, BUT I’m running some very key differences from you that I’ll detail here:
- Scepter vs Sword. While iLeap is certainly helpful in landing shatters, it’s definitely not mandatory. Among other key things, scepter helps with your clone generation, which you really need in this build without DE.
- Mender’s Purity vs Vigorous Revelation. If you can find a way to make the build work with VR w/out that condi-removal, by all means. I stay alive MUCH longer with MP. Besides, I’ve tried (really) to make a boon share build work with BD, and it just doesn’t very well. I’ve accepted the fact I’m going to have a largely selfish BD build.
- Illusionary Invigoration vs Illusionary Elasticity. It’s paramount that Ill Inv is taken for more shatters. The only way I’d think about switching to IE would be if Anet fixes IE for our clones.
- Mirror Images, Mantra of Resolve and Decoy (or Blink) for utilities. Mirror Images is probably the most important aspect of this build in order to keep as many illusions up as possible for shattering. Disenchanter just doesn’t work for me in this build, but if you can make it work, by all means.
- Celestial Amulet vs Rabid. It may seem like an odd choice, but it’s not. It works, and decently. Just try it out and you’ll see what I mean.
- Rune of Balthazar vs Undead. You have so much more going for you with this set, more condition output primarily, but the quickness is amazing at 20% and extra burn duration on prestige burn is great.
- Runes of strength/battle and doom. These immensely help your damage and condition output.
Every one of those bullets have been vital to the build working cohesively for me. Most of those choices have a lot of explanation behind them. If there is expressed interest, I will go into more detail on them and skill rotations/strategies/combos I’ve discovered so far. It would literally take a full post.
Yes mobility sux, it just is what it is. In PvP it’s not that big a deal though and you at least have phase retreat blink.

Final disclaimer – I don’t like BD as it is currently – it’s underpowered for a GM trait, BUT I think a build like this could potentially work and has worked decently for me so far (pending further testing).
For me energy sigils would be mandatory and I would drop the mantra cure in favor of arcane thievery with a cooldown reduction. Since its slow maybe drop MP and go with far reaching manipulations, I can usually get rid of unwanted condis with just thievery(w/cd). I haven’t given BD a chance, however I will today!
This is the maim build I use for spvp, high mobility, tons of fun. Ultimately Pyro is correct the maim trait is weak but don’t give up, I actually prefer this build over power shatter just for the fun factor.

The original power shatter! Still good imo i use it all the time, usually just with different weapons. I prefer all swords atm.
Damage looks nice, but I have trouble seeing why an enemy couldn’t ignore you and survive. Seems pretty easy for your opponents to just run away, and you really don’t have any more chasing potential than other PU builds do.
With condi-PU, it’s pretty much required for the opponent to kill clones in order for the damage to stack high enough to matter – and when they’re running away, they’re not attacking clones (therefore, it’s an easy escape for just about everyone). With this build, the long, high damage burns will continue to tick regardless of whether they’re fighting back or not – so, you have a better chance of downing them when they run (less damage tied to clone death).
That’s my theory anyway – you’re right in that chasing isn’t any better. Killing the cowardly will be better though. :-)
This is sort of the reason that my version of this build is more shatter focused. I like the more active version of applying the conditions than just waiting for clones to die (or be killed).
The thing I’m struggling with now is Runes of Balthazar vs. Runes of Perplexity.
I haven’t done any testing with them, but in principal I have a really tough time overwriting my 7g runes with 4s ones haha
Is PU worth lower clone production for your torment stacks? I’m gunna see if I can make it work for hotjoin today, i like this direction though.

I have been using it for a week now in spvp and the tooltip is broken (shocked!). My previous builds were always power shatter osi builds. If your used to shatter builds its not that bad at getting stacks on but I agree that it is weak. It is really fun to play condi shatter though, almost makes up for the weak stacks.
Will maim be as effective as IP, PU or lockdown? I doubt it but it is fun to play.

love travelers!!! I dont like celestial though, always feels like im not getting enough power or condi damage from it. I run a tormentor hybrid with travelers and rabid or carrion depending on where my crit is. If you spec into far reaching manipulations you can get across the map in a heartbeat. Ill throw on a celestial today and see how it goes.
It would also be my opinion that your going to need heavy clone production. One stack per shattering clone is weak but if can crank out clones its fine. Thats why i have vigor on crit and shattered vigor. Im using standard shatter utilitys decoy,mirror,blink and MI or TW situation dependent

Some options ive been testing, there is a thread called tormentor btw it has some stuff on it. Currently using 0/4/0/4/6 I X, IV III, V IX XIII, lots vigor, lots on confusion, I love the extended blink range imo its awesome. Was messing with 0/5/3/2/6 with confusion on clone death but wasn’t getting much from DD. Crit is low so i have been using rabid, the intelligence sigils are interesting, i have been messing with them with limited success. Travelers runes, i love high mobility even at a cost in damage. Keep in mind I’m using this for spvp/soloq roamer. oh and im using scepter/torch/staff, scepter isn’t that bad you just need to practice with it, the block is really quite amazing imo.

How about 4/6/0/2/2, both illusion damage %increase and mender purity. You are correct that we rock confusion and torment and when i go condi that is what i usually stack. Confusion on blind, confusion dur increase, torment on shatter has been super fun since the 15th. Idk just throwing some input your way.
I wouldn’t use it in a spvp/tpvp setting myself. Personally I dont like signet builds, some of the other mesmer utility’s are hard to get away from. Menders purity imo is a lot stronger than 1 condi per sigil. Both dissipations are weak imo you can find better damaging condis that are reliable. I’m sure this works but maybe lean more toward power or condi not both.
I have not been able to reproduce any of what you guys are talking about here. My guess is its simply a LTP issue. Mesmers are easy mode after this update, they only have a couple of builds that haven’t been dumped on. Most I run into are running PU or a variation of that.
ya cause mesmers are so overpowered now……. they fixed power block in the hotfix, screenshots of the warlock damage? How about they “fix” every profession you dont play?
The pve folks want the pvp rewards now, removing the hotjoin cap for tracks might help this.

Running almost the same build, I run without condi removal personally. I went with blink and far reaching manipulations. Just finish my first reward track, the build is solid, slower than power shatter but super fun watching people kill themselves. Running carrion for the crit(bleeds) and condi damage. Using condi sigils, earth etc. I also like travelers runes, i prefer super high mobility.

I’m still amazed they can still make an argument against PTR, the 100 or so in house testers need to be fired with the writers. Super Fail based on bugs and writing alone. Arenanet sales were close to 50 million last year and this year they are headed for the Asian markets, so spare me the we don’t have a sub and that’s why are content is lacking cry.
Anet gets money from razer and logitech. Mouse sales during living story have tripled.
