If the commanders were only speaking in squad, how would randoms get the information? Sooner or later they would ask, and people could tell them to join squad. Commanders insisting on giving generic orders in /m and /t is compounding the problem.

Squad chat is for the group following you, /m and /t are for communications to other commanders or so scouts/small mans can keep everyone apprised of situations. The real problem is commanders insisting on using /m for crap that should be said in /squad.

I’m not questioning your skill or your honor so no need to get offended. I’m just telling you what we saw from our side of the battle.

If you’re talking about around 8 or 9pm EST, it was because you guys were set up to farm, and we were outmanned. Although I may be thinking about the NE tower instead. But if you guys were set up to farm, it’s probably still the same reason if the same people were in the map.

My guild has been around since DAoC; 4 or 5 of the founding members were women. Our current GM is female, and my wife is a Commander (melting faces in pvp/rvr/wvw for 12+ years now), elected as the first cmdr for our guild. While not everyone in the guild enjoys WvW, for the most part that is what we are about. Of the 12 or 15 of us that play daily, 4-5 are women. Our guild would not be that same without them, and I’d have it no other way.

Culling was absolutely atrocious last night. We had a report of ~10 inc to sw camp from sw tower; they portal bombed us with mass invis (nice job btw). I saw one, charged, and was pretty much insta killed. The rest didn’t pop until I tried to mist away while downed. Of course, I drove myself right into the middle of them…

Well, they weren’t really culled… I just like blowing kitten up! 12 hour shifts make me a lil blase about such things.

There is an easy fix… go to a lower population server. Ques aren’t a problem.

Go to Orr and do events, lots of people killing lots of mobs, easy to get it done in 10-15 minutes. Anet already confirmed it isn’t working as intended… more mobs just makes it easier to get the killing blow with a finisher while a field is up. That is the current theory in my guild as to how it is working.

Hey that was me! Were you that Mesmer? You were tough to fight. As far as my spec, I use Cleric stats with some crit chance thrown in. I basically try to outlast my enemies with high toughness/healing and a lot of CC.

Yeah, I finally had to give up. Whatever you are doing, keep it up… you’re hard as kitten to catch/kill. After the first few fights, we were telling people in TS not to bother chasing you, that they would just end up alone and dead :p Good luck to you!

FTF and company tonight in Ebay borderlands… What is the purpose of putting the rams up on the wall on either side of the gate at SE tower? Happened twice that I saw, and I am curious as to the reason.

Ran into a Longbow/Greatsword Ranger with Wolf Form about 7 times, was only able to kill him once I think. Was an IoJ ranger from [Prot], many are curious about your spec; nice job kiting!

Hardcorepwnology [HARD], great fight there at SE camp. Necro and Ele did a great job!

The best heal skill is to not take damage. Especially at lower levels, you are very squishy… use your evades, immobilizes, knockdowns, and snares as much as you can to keep away from the mobs. After that, Signet of Restoration is great; if it’s not on cooldown, start spamming your #1 skill and the heals add up quickly. Glyph of lesser elementals gives you a pet pretty regularly, use fire for dps and earth for a pet that will stay up a bit longer and help tank. Mist form and your teleport skill are great for getting out of dodge.

Condition damage is great in small fights (1v1, 5v5), but when you;re up against numbers, you just can’t follow someone long enough to keep the conditions going for them to die. There’s too much surging in and out of the front lines to keep the pressure applied until they die; if you follow them to keep the pressure on, inevitably you end up behind their front lines.

Had a blast last night, and very much looking forward to the week.

I used to say the same thing. Now I realize that pve’ers don’t leave servers, only WvW guilds. Not that I’m not happy they left, lots of disruption gone now; it’s just that now we don’t have that zerg to occupy the larger of the enemy forces.

Not arguing this, as I have no clue what Mags looks like – but what are you basing this assessment on?

Because I could log on at 9am EST and take 2-3 towers, and sometimes a keep, before starting to see a response from Mag. The only gap I have seen in Kaineng coverage is from about 11am-noon EST. Any other time, we have an almost immediate response of at least 5 Kaineng players (quickly followed by at least 1 more group) before we can get a wall down with a catapult.

Could be dazed, or high lag does it as well. Daze doesn’t stack duration, so it would only affect you for ~1 second. I usually find the inability to use my skills in high lag situations happens about the same time culling is causing the 30 enemies around me to suddenly pop.

Yes, GASM and PRO are both (for the most part) gone. Half of PRO left a couple of weeks ago, the rest followed shortly after, although I don’t believe to the same server. The rats always abandon ship at the first sign of trouble. We have righted the boat and are working on getting ourselves back underway. We’ll be fine, although probably a tier lower for a few weeks.

Try transferring in early morning (6-9)EST. You’ll find less players on during the week.

Also, NFL playoffs today in about 7 hours, may be able to squeeze in then. Good luck!

A well matched tier is more important than moving up to a higher tier, imo. What I think people are failing to realize is that they a win on T7 is as much of a win as a win on T3; the only difference is que times. I’d rather be in T7 with 2 evenly matched servers on the other side (and low que times) than in T3 with one server stomping the other 2 (I’ve been on both sides of this, and neither is fun), not to mention having to wait 35 minutes just to get on the same map as my guild.

I think it’s a case of you playing wrong as opposed to the build you’re using being bad. If you’re using D/D remember that you also have other great escape skills, namely Burning Speed and Magnetic Grasp. You should also have perma-Swiftness from your Auras + Zephyr’s Boon.

Mist form and Lightning Flash are both stun breakers, and are also useful during combat when you don’t want to run away.
Defensively, look at:
Elemental Attunement (Arcane V) -Grants more speed/regen/protection
Evasive Arcana (Arcane XI) -Cleansing Wave (cures conditions)and Blinding Flash (ae blind)
Soothing Wave (Water X) -Regen in Mist Form
If you get the right armor runes, you get near everlasting speed with D/D.

Most classes only have 3-4 abilities to slow you down (snare, stun, root). The key is lasting thru their use of those abilities (cleanse, protection, regen) to be able to outrun them. Time your evades, use your mist form and teleport wisely (wait til you are stunned/rooted). Use your weapon skills. If you drop something on the ground that they have to go around, you are gaining ground. If they don’t go around, they are now snared, stunned, or rooted. Most importantly, realize that you’re not always going to get away.

Practice getting away from mobs in PvE to start; then find mobs that snare/root/stun, and practice some more. If you have this down, you will nearly always get away from bad players… the good ones can be hard to beat… that’s why you call them good players.

It seems like the general vibe is most people in so many words, hate zergs.

What about “mini” wvw maps? Like one fort 10v10 or something of the likes. I’m sure people could come up with better ideas than me on this but it seems like it could be fun and if you didn’t want to deal with zergs it would be a nice option.

Some sort of point system would have to be worked out. But it seems like there are so many game play options like one fort, king of the hill, and the likes.

I’m picturing a more tactical s/t pvp that involves more than standing in circles.

They have this, it’s called sPvP.

In WvW, you have to learn to deal with being outnumbered. Sadly, most people just kitten about it on the forums.

Either make them optional (for fully upgrading a camp), or make them useful.

Ideas for usefulness:
-Guards persist after yak death, and despawn at next destination
AND
-Raise guard level once camp fully upgraded

ALSO

-Yak invuln until guards are dead
OR
-Retaliation buff on yak while any guard still up

This allows for a group to still kill the yak easily, but makes it difficult to solo/duo, as well as adding value to the investment while upgrading a camp.

Um, if anything, we reached our current tier IN SPITE OF YOU. I doubt you could carry a tune, I know you can’t carry a server. Get over yourself.

On Sunday there were so many guilds talking about leaving we would have ended up in tier 27. Nothing but whining in /t, /m, and LA chat. Good riddance, I say! Let the glory hounds seek their fame elsewhere. We don’t need fair-weather players. There is a core group of guilds which has (mostly) been around since the first week on DR, that’s who we want to stay. Everyone else can have fun somewhere else. Personally, I don’t care if we’re tier 1 or bottom of the barrel, as long as the que times are minimal and there is always someone to fight when we head out. I play to have fun with the guildies I have known for over 12 years (and all the people who have joined since); if we win a few fights in between, all the better.

So if you’re on the wall over whether or not to leave the server, go! We’ll be fine without you, in whatever tier we end up.

A good commander learns from their mistakes, accepts defeat without blaming or pointing fingers, keeps their ego to themselves, has good communication habits, and works well with others on the map. You don’t have to win every fight to be a good commander.

Great fights tonight; much rather have too many to fight than none at all. Even the frustration of taking a supply camp with 6 and getting rolled by 25 is better than doing fractals all dang night!

We got to where we are despite some commanders and because of some… but it is the general populace that got us here. I think we’re doing better as the weeks go on as we learn to ignore the commanders who don’t have a clue and use their title to stroke their own egos.

Can I ask an idiot question here, since it’s a newb thread and I might not be assassinated for being an idiot? (I’m a refugee from wow and it’s taking a while to get used to different game mechanics)

So: This is about getting PVP gear. I dinged 80 last night, leveled the last 12 levels by going 0-400 in tailoring and artifice on the basis that I could craft my own gear armour/staff/focus and only have to buy the daggeres (ele: d/d seems mandatory atm if not running staff support).

Most of the rest of the time, I was running with the zerg as a staff ele, following the instructions above – use boons/healing, res everyone, try not to die too often, keep a focus in the kit and use it when possible, give speed buffs, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I’ve come out with a handful of Badges of Honour but that’s it as far as gear goes. I haven’t finished my ‘story’ line yet – and, crucially, have never been near a dungeon. I grew to loathe dungeons in wow and avoided them like the plague and have every intention of doing the same here.
BUT – if I stay in the Wv3, how the kitten am I supposed to gear up? I have the yellow rare gear that I crafted, but it’s not going to impress anyone for long and I haven’t worked out yet how to get the jewels/runes/everything else for PVP.
Can someone enlighten me? Or point me to the info-posts?

As a new Elementalist that also leveled mainly on crafting, I recommend you keep the rare gear for now. Try to get close enough to blanket the enemy front line with (staff) Fire 2 and 5, Water 2 and 4, Air 5 (air 3 if you see an enemy getting close… if they are breaking your front lines, they are usually chasing someone almost dead), Earth 2 and 4 (and 5 again if another enemy is close). If at any time you start receiving direct fire, or if the ae is starting to hurt, back off; if you’re still unhurt, start the rotation again. The more people you hit, the better your chance of getting a loot bag.

While recovering in the back, rez and use Water 3 and 5 to heal any that you can. Watch for loot bags, as that is where you’re going to pick up money and items to sell. Get a Black Lion Salvage Kit and salvage any yellow items you may get and save the Globs of Ectoplasm. If you can stand to do some dungeons, or even just some PvE in lvl appropriate zones, you will probably get a steadier source of yellows for salvage, as well as raw materials to use for crafting.

At the Tailoring Master, google the different sets that recipes are sold for Intricate Gossamer Insignias, and figure out which Insignia you want to use. You can actually make the (Exotic) version of the (Rare)s that you made, which are a step up. Each insignia is going to require 5 Globs of Ectoplasm and 5 Armored Scales (or another component depending on which insignia you want), so you will need 30 total of each. You can either farm for these, or get them off the Trading Company. Either way, you’re going to need to invest some time either in WvW or PvE. sPvP is the crossed swords icon at the top of your screen. Barring that, you’re going to have to learn to beat superior numbers. It’s part of the game, and if you only roam in a 5-man, it’s something you will have to get used to. Not everybody can dedicate 50+ hours a week to playing a video game.

Bah, rewards make it a grind. WvW for the sake of PvP and be happy.

Meh, incentives for WvW? It should be done purely for pvp’s sake; everything else is a bonus. If you require incentive to pvp, then no matter what they add, you won’t be here long.

Disclaimer: A DF style dungeon isn’t an “incentive” per se, as it is just another place to pvp. But it’s a great way to do PvE.
