Also when they guest they ARE on that server and proceed to camp the event zone’s spending the 1h30 min between events raging and being abusive because they are not being carried.

Since the wurm was downed on desolation the mass of server hopers, glory hunters and success fans have transfered over/guesting. I have yet to be able to do get into either of the events sine (wurm, marrionette) on my home server and forever trapped in overflows.

Its ridiculous, the main reason i have an issue with this is that i actually paid 1000 gems 6 months ago to transfer onto deso in order to join a guild from the recruitment forum. A guild that is impossible to play this content with due to the influx of guesters etc. The system is what it is and guesters currently have the same “queue priority” as home server players. Whether people agree with this or not is not the point, anet and many players have stated on here several times that this content was geared towards organized group content which on an overflow is very hard to impossible at times.

Now i dont really care what server i play on, what i do care about is paying for it again. I am in agreement that players should be able to transfer and play where they want, even guest with friends which is why i am requesting free transfers. Possibly allowing one free transfer might help to balance population which could see improvements in these events but also WvW match ups.

I am not alone in thinking this, alot of people on desolation are sick of guests filling up lions arch with rage and hate that we can’t insta face roll the wurm for them on request for their achievements etc.

P.S possibly think about renaming Lions Arch on desolation to Londons Arch because thats how bad its getting Cmon, let us flock to spain

Warrior Longbow/Sword+Axe is fun.

Guardian Staff/Greatsword is also good.

You will get plenty of kills with both.

Warrior and Guardian are by far the most played of all the classes in WvW because they have the most survivability.

You could well end up dieing a lot as a Necro or Ele until you get more experience of WvW, stick to the ‘heavies’ well learning.

Yup try this advice. Everyone in GW2 can range and the warrior’s longbow is some of the best.

Like mentioned above, ranger is quite weak compared to others in the zerg, its more of a roamer.

Ranger PVE/World Event builds?

Yeah open world PvE often consists of “tagging” or just having so many people dropping the nuke on a mob that your DPS really doesn’t matter.

Taking that into consideration i usually run GS and Longbow. The GS has a nice cleave/evade, leap, stun/daze, block/knockdown and a pbaoe which hits fairly well (maul). The Longbow has great range, aoe, knockback, stealth and rapid fire which for range also hits quite well.

I think those two weapons are great for open world but you could also go for dual axe’s which will allow you to tag even better. I just prefer the skills on GS for movement and non rooted defence.

Rangers have a bad stigma in PuG’s because of the whole “bearbow” thing. Though if played right they are very useful, top tier/record speed clearing.

The problem is, when joining a pug group your always worried that your going to be insta kicked or your kick atleast discussed. Sometimes i mention my weaps and traits:

“running s/h and s/a, spotter, 70% frost, healingspring full zerk”

It’s sad i know, but thats the way it is.

Perhaps they might overlap similiar to the toxic alliance content. Then again that might not work story/lore wise.

That’s what i liked about the whole aspect of the tower, people were fighting outside and inside, some were in instances while others were farming offshoots. Made it feel like more of a unified tyria struggling to overcome the alliance.

Anyway, hopefully it’s longer than two weeks cos by the sounds of it the daily contribution to our meta is now more useful than ever.

Yeah I’m not a fan of the wurm, atleast atm. I think its partly because of the zerging and screen clutter…just not enjoyable.

The rest of the content i appreciate and enjoy. Hopefully because the wurm is staying it will become more enjoyable a few weeks down the line.

I think the cost varies from 1000-1800 for low, med, high pop servers.

Also just incase you haven’t considered it, you should guest on your desired server for a day or two to fully decide if you like it. Don’t waste your gems, it dont grow on sylvari

Its +50% damage which equals 1.5 or 150% damage. It can be confusing i know and there seems to be alot of this going around on the tooltips, it also adds to peoples confusion when they are aware that many of the tool tips are outright wrong in the first place.

You and your pet both receive the buff, so the next attack each of you deals is 50% stronger.

Its a bad trait imo and tbh there isn’t enough burst available to take full advantage of something like that. Also take the greatsword for example, #5 is a stun/daze (interupt) and it already applies the opportunity to your pet, they do not stack…

Id actually prefer it if the staff was melee orientated, with some kick animations. Obviously some range on the skill cooldowns but certainly the AA.

If you think about it we have access to 3 ranged weapons and being a ranger any new weapons being added to the game in the future would probably include more so perhaps the staff would be melee. Atleast the way Anet might see it.

I think rangers need a big trait reshuffle that at leat puts empatic bond into a 20 pt tier. That single trait limits any ranger build in pvp.

Ideally I want to see tanky dps ranger become viable, traps moved out of skirmishing, and spotter/another trait moved out of marksmanship into skirmishing.

Considering what some of the other classes have in the master tier slots i would have to agree. Some have some really nice trait’s at the 5pt trait such as mesmer’s perma vigor. I think thats due to be nerfed but still a shinning example.

-Yes berserkers is a good idea, even after this week’s patch
-It depends, but at the minimum you should have Spotter as Master trait on Marksmanship and Vigorous Spirits as Adept on Nature Magic.

The usual build for damage while being useful for a party is 30/25/0/15/0 or 20/25/0/25/0 & always bringing Spotter and Traited Frost Spirit.

There is a big patch dropping this week that may change some stuff around though.

If you want to do the most damage possible(I’m assuming this because you’re gearing and traiting towards damage now) you have to use a 1h Sword and Warhorn as main offhand. Offhand dagger for an extra evade, offhand axe for a projectile reflect. 1h Sword will also be modified later on so it doesn’t root you down on some frames when auto-attacking so it’ll be alot easier to dodge/strafe later on.

Try to avoid bows & mainhand axe as much as possible, they are underwhelming when it comes to damage.

All this is good info for PvE and i would follow this when you want to do dungeons. Sorry my post i thought u were refering to PvP/WvW.

It sounds like you want a glass cannon power ranger build. Have you tried longbow? Shortbow is great in condition build’s which are popular atm in PvP. The ranger is very good in team games using spirits and shortbow etc.

Your on the right course for your armor. Once you get to level 80 do the CoF dungeon as much as possible and also look at CoE. These both give tokens for berzerker damage, which is the highest DPS armor available.

Later on you might want to look at getting the Head and Shoulder slots as assassins. It provides a bit extra DPS (not much) on power ranger builds.

If you haven’t yet try the longbow, greatsword and sword/a/d/h. They all work well in power builds

Where would Bark Skin see the most use in what builds?

I’ve used it in “tanky” dps builds (by tanky i mean something like valk or barbarian/knights something that isn’t totally damage oriented) and i’ve also used it in bunker builds and it works really well in both, ESPECIALLY if you’ve got a heal like TU or are running a lot of regen because it makes you extremely hard to kill once you drop into that 25% threshold unless they’re condi damage.

I personally think it works best when using HaO paired with high regen uptime, the regen itself tends to keep you alive long enough for HaO to come back off CD and allow you to shoot back up in health and really throw people off.

And also it just negates direct damage, not condition damage :/
does the beast master signet trait affect Signet of Stone being able to negate conditions? or not? i haven’t tried that yet, though i’ve wanted to since like forever lol

Normally sPvP, but i’ve used it in Dungeons/Fractals before, didn’t really notice it there but that’s because i normally don’t get downed very much….

Also, it’s good for toughness AND vitality builds, toughness builds it cuts the balls off of like all damage you take, and for vitality builds it gives you the tankyness you normally lack (granted only for a short time)

I’d argue its effectiveness on toughness builds. I have toughness up the butt and still get hit with some pretty heavy damage depending on the opponent. If you’re fighting an opponent that doesn’t hit hard, you don’t need it in the first place. I still get hit with 5k+ damage at times, and that’s more than enough to skip the entire pool of HP that would even trigger your bark skin. Even if it doesn’t, a single hit from a thief or warrior can do 1000s of damage even with 3000+ armor. Bark skin still won’t keep you alive for more than a couple hits if you don’t have a high health pool. This isn’t for all enemies of course, but for most scenarios Empathic Bond is a better alternative since it weighs as a much more beneficial skill over the course of a fight than one that only keeps you alive for a few more hits when you’re already going down.

And in response to an earlier post of yours, even using a regen build, I’d still recommend Empathic Bond over Bark Skin. We don’t have much condition removal and a regen build is centered around strong regens and large uptimes. Poisons generally last for a long time when they’re applied, so without Empathic Bond, we’re suffering huge losses in HP just from 33% reduced healing due to poison. This doesn’t even account for the other effects of conditions that can completely kill a rotation or flip a fight that are removed instantly by your pet. Overall, I just view Empathic Bond as a much more useful skill to regen builds in this conditions meta. Even a glassy thief will drop poisons on you. The only times that Bark Skin might be a better choice would be when fighting warriors and mesmers, and fighting one of these rather than something else (not even counting when you run into a group) is in the minority of encounters from my experience. Empathic Bond has got it beat in almost every aspect outside of strictly determined 1v1 dueling, at least in my opinion.

Yeah i agree with this, even when taking the regen focused builds into account. Like mentioned in the quote some classes can stack poison on you for upwards of 45 seconds. Although this is due to be nerfed somewhat Empathic Bond is still the most bang for your buck in the current condi meta.

anyone noticed that the random laughs of the devs stopped when they started to talk about the ranger? i thought oh my god no they barry them xD

i am really sorry for all wvw ranger who use EB. pets get killed fast in zerg fights and with no condition remove life gets harder. then anet should not wonder when more and more play bear.

Alot of theives seemed displeased with the pistolwhip changes. I personally see it as a buff in PvP but in PvE it’s just another button press when clearing through trash…which the s/p excels at.

Anyway, i think it’s a change for the better as now the root split up and each attack is shorter. The fact that you can now stun one target and pistol whip another is a bonus imo.

70% frost spirit is something you should have if you’re going into dungeons. In boss fights, you can add roughly +7% of the entire group’s DPS to your own.

The other spirits are fairly useless in PvE.

Fortunately the trait line to give frost spirit the extra percentage boost also gives you a straight DPS boost if you take it to 25.

20/25/0/25/0

It doesn’t give any boost. The 5% extra damage while under a boon and the meagre (with full zerker as per meta) 7% vit to power outputs the same DPS as going full 30 in power.

The power build will clear through trash quicker what with the opening strike’s reset. Anyway the math has been done and they equate to the same DPS. No boost.

These products are not intended to be economically reasonable purchases. They are, at best, a convenience (metabolic primer), and at worst, preying on people’s collecting nature (gotta-catch-all-the-ore-nodes).

If you do not like the pricing of these items because of their economic impracticality, then don’t get them, but economic practicality isn’t the goal.

Something that has always bothered me about GW2 is the weapon “connection” sounds. It just doesn’t sound of…well anything. I mean you can faintly hear a small ‘dink’ or ‘donk’ now and then but there’s nothing meaty behind it. It might not be so bad for others but for me personally i am always watching the flytext just to tell when and if i have hit.

I just wanted to see how others felt about this and if they have any issue with it at all. Many games (including MMO’s) do get this right and it’s just somewhere that i feel GW2 is lacking, especially with all the weapons available.

In this current “zomg more deeps!” state of the game the spirit build(s) are outside of the meta. Frost spirit is a great and i always taken it but like mentioned above, with no more than 15 points into the nature magic line. A couple of times i’ve ran two (usually protection) but most of the times it feels meh joining the mob ganking when it’s 50% hp due to double cast etc.

Yeah I’m certain that the two sigil will effect all weapons including ranged. Also they mentioned the rune of the ranger specifically and expect to see the #6 not only working but buffed.

Nearly all if not all runes 4/5/6 bonus’s should see an increase in stats according to their intentions on the livestream.

What they want to Do: increase the stun duration on whip. So that the whole skill can Land without utilities.

Your right. However this is how I see it. In PvE it is just an extra button push serving no purpose. In PvP it is a buff. That will inevitability lead to a nerf. Why you ask? All main hand sword thieves know how awesome slice is. Animation is stupid short and it actually hits hard. We can literally achieve good good damage with auto attack not unlike sword for DPS guardian, ranger, and warrior pre the final thrust move from auto attack chain.

I think a possible combo could be Stun -> slice-> slash. Target just ate half a PW while stunned in roughly half the time. This will likely lead to an auto attack nerf or some other nerf to compensate. I can see the complaints now about getting stun locked by thief and how this is Mc/Sh + GS warrior all over again. I can see anet coming in here and doing what they usually do nerfing gimping our dps further in PvE to help PvP. I can see the flood of stun spammers (new to the class) saying it isn’t OP while some vet thieves resort to it for the sake of viability. Others say some thing along the lines of,“We’ll it is not stealth and you can counter it with stability.” So we see a slight of hand + bountiful theft nerf to compensate. All the while people kitten about stealth and how thief is so OP.

Before all of that let me say the skill is fine as is. In strong language leave it the kitten alone.

So wait, wait, wait. You’re telling me that after 12 months of being completely gutted, rangers are getting… nerfed? Are you serious? You can’t be serious. They haven’t even fixed the pet into being 50% reliable yet and we’re still getting nerfs? It’s official. I am abandoning my ranger. I was stupid for ever rolling one and for ever believing Anet had any intentions of fixing them. This whole “good things are coming, we just can’t tell you what!” is just a load of BS. It’s verbal confirmation that they have no idea how to fix the ranger class. Why else would they be so secretive? Oh noes, the players might know what’s in store for their class. Can’t have that… unless they’re any other class other than ranger or ranger nerfs. Lol. If Anet was anymore transparent, matter would pass through them.

I think your over reacting slightly, everything that was mentioned in the livestream to be changing for ranger is a bug fix, pure and simple. From the 480hp tick on the spirit to the apparent dead pet condi clear…none of it was working as intended.

Anyway they are still working on it all, obviously and stated a couple of times that things are changing back and forth a lot with the number crunching etc. That’s why the information is scarce or being held back.

I expect nothing from it, most likely we’ll get those mentioned nerfs, the trap fields, maybe a debatable buff in a weird place, like Harpoon #3 now apply might to your pet instead of fury or something along this lines.

Ranger will still be my main, but have a while that I just hope for no big nerfs, small nerfs and little changes to skills is good enough for me nowadays, true buff is ask too much apparently.

Yup small nerfs/buffs across the board is how they are looking to work it, avoiding the “whack a mole” fixes etc. The way to look at this patch or any future ones that do not directly buff the ranger is to see other classes nerfs as a buff to the ranger and/or making some builds that little bit more viable.

There is a couple of these topics around already with discussions in them. There is no nerf to spirit’s it’s a bug fix and it was never working as intended with the 480hp.

It’s not a nerf, it was never intended to heal 480. It WAS a bug with the way the spirit scaled it’s stats.

Also the patch is putting it to 360, not 320. It will basically function as a team wide version of the passive on healing signet

Anet has confirmed they want to remove bloodlust stacking when you unequip weapons,

Did they? I must have misse that. What I remember them saying was that you still won’t be able to gather corruption AND bloodlus stacks.

Yeah I re-watched it again last night. John makes it clear that no two identical sigils will stack together. This means say two energy crystals etc but also includes two stacking sigils. So it doesn’t matter if it stacks power, prec or condi NO two stacking sigils will work in tangent.

Ouch, this is devastating news. I was about to craft some ascended armor for my ranger but if they change sword I may have to switch to warrior as a main. I will be one extremely sad puppy.

Why? They were only talking about reworking it so you can dodge during the auto chain which you currently can’t.

You can dodge between the attacks and easily with autoattack off, many people have learned this and become skilled.

There’s not one leap in the game that can be dodged in the middle of and the sword #1 chain technically has two leaps. This is why I am worried about the sword changes as it may see nerfs to the fundamental design of the sword I know and love.

Edit: By see nerfs I mean nerfs down the line when people start claiming its OP because of the sheer amount of movement the ranger will have with the sword. People wont like it I can guarantee you.
