Yeah not really nerfs just bug fixes.

They are looking into being able to dodge during sword’s AA. I’m not sure if I like this, obviously it will lead to a lot more control over your character with the sword but this is what may lead to out cry’s of “sword #1 OP!” from the masses. What I mean is the ability to move around so freely while cripple locking down a fleeing target etc.

I guess time will tell, I just hope they don’t change the swords fundamental design as for all its flaws and broken or not it’s very unique and rewarding.

I’ll definetly try air+fire on my zerker longbow ranger…. mmmm

Is ANet going to fix OnCrit sigils then so you can have 2 proccing at the same time?

Yeah, 2 on crit’s WILL proc together (i.e fire/air). The RNG is looking like its going to be removed and will just be activated on crit with an ICD.

I picked up the nodes for the following reasons:

1. I want my home instance to have all possible home instance things, since that’s the closest we are going to get to player housing.

2. On days where I want to quickly get a daily in, I can now hit 75% of my gatherer without moving.

3. With potential Ascended Jewelcrafting right around the corner, it cannot hurt to have some extra ore available.

Those are the conveniences I get from owning this item, and to me they far outweigh the $10.00 it costs to own them.

It took me about 15 minutes to earn $10.00 in real life. I’d say that spending 15 minutes on this today will result in many, many hours of time saved on my daily going forward making this a no-brainer buy item.

yup, this.

As the title says i cant decided between two necro looks.

Both look great but i also think if you used the one on the lefts body with the one on the rights head it might look awesome too.

Also you could keep one set for your zerker and another for your wvw. I’ve never played Necro so not quite sure on builds so this may or may not be a viable option.

Nice too/armor though, may i ask, is that a human or norn?

Gandara, Desolation and Far Shiverpeaks are all high pop PvX servers.

Seafarer’s rest is top tier WvW.

Piken used to be the unoffical roleplayers server and ended up top tier WvW for a while. All of this was ruined by server hopers/glory hunters and i believe most of those groups moved on.

If you take a break from the game and miss a mini there is no point in “collecting” really. Also during the holiday events etc its often required you spend around a 1000 gems to collect the one’s available in the time frame.

The quest system works differently in GW2 to other mmo’s you may be used to. Around the map are heart icon’s, when you are close to one it will also show up on your quest panel which is top right of the screen. Most of the time you just do one of the activities it says (usually 3 or 4 options) and if your actually required to talk to the “quest giver” it will let you know.

There are several ways to get around. Firstly if you open your map you can teleport to any of the waypoints you have found (blue diamond shape). You should have some in your home city which for Asura is Rata Sum.

There’s also a “cheat” way which requires you go to the pvp hub (crossed swords on your toolbar, top left) and then through the portal at the opposite which takes you to the pve hub/main city Lions Arch. Once there you can get a portal to any of the race’s main city’s.

Hope this helps, good luck

1g-worth lvl 20 green item

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Neoheart.2750

Neoheart.2750

Two reasons:

1) Lots of players with plenty of gold want to play/level their alts with the best gear

2) At least in regards to blue items, you can resell after using them. So essentially, you are just renting the item while you level. This significantly increases the cost because you can get it back when you’re done. The high price of the green is often reflective of the high price of the coresponding blue; some people just forget about the selling-back aspect built into the blue’s price.

And speaking of, there is a ton of gold to be made taking advantage of the above dynamic. In fact, the best way to make gold on the TP is not necessarily to think about items themselves, but rather about how people play guild wars 2, and then what items they need to play the game in these various ways.

I think your first part is wrong and your trying to look into it too much. Its simply people cashing in on other people’s accidents. I also checked the blue when this was first posted and in no way is it reflective of 1G.

Fractal build

in Ranger

Posted by: Neoheart.2750

Neoheart.2750

I run full clerics with a 0/0/20/20/30 build or something like that and I’ve been having little issue, I run a sword/horn and a longbow (primarily the bow) with Mercy Ruhes, LR, HS, SotH, Stone Spirit and Elite Spirit, my utilities get changed up every now and then but the general theme behind the build (tanky supporter) stay the same.

Pet is a fern hound and a brown bear, the bear just eats up everything and doesn’t give a kitten, so many times him tanking as I rezzed the idiots in zerker who died again has made us not wipe.

I’m curious: what level fractals do you run and how long are your runs?

Bad players are bad players. A bad player in tanky armor will die almost as much as a bad player in zerker armor in high level fractals, given that most things that kill you will do so very quickly.

I’m at like 25 atm, slowly working on getting AR, reason I even started them was a friend of mine said his group of regulars only has one zerker and it takes em 40min (they’re at 50) so I figured hell why not.

I get downed very few times in fractals, and normally when I do it’s from lack of AR or me keeping someone from going to defeated/thinking I can Rez em fast enough.

And while your stood back using your “bearbow” tell me, why do you think these “idiots in zerkers” are downed in the first place?

Hint: dungeon/fractals are best for a group of 5, not 4.

Um, i use a Fernhound most of the time and only swap to the bear when the Fernhound is getting low, or we need the condi removal, also i go in and out of melee ranged, and if we’ve got an ele I tend to be in melee a lot more than normally because i can constantly be blasting fire fields for might for my allies via warhorn and sometimes just swapping the bear out to a drake etc.

And the reason they tend to get downed in the first place is normally they don’t pay attention and they end up eating some AoE, or they’re too stupid to put the Tears of Dwayna in on time and end up dying to the toxic because they’ve got no health/no way to heal through it and end up dying before they get their heads out of their kitten and put the crystals back in and i end up being the only one standing… There’s also the occasional mindset of “That ranger is able to sit there and rez while eating all that bad kitten i should be able to!” and they die because they’re not geared to do so but i am.

@Bambula: I’m not gonna lie, i’m in no way, shape or form trying to “optimize” my fractal runs, the only reason i use clerics is because that’s what i built for my WvW build and i just cram that into PvE situations because i have no room to store a second set of armor. I mean if there was an ARMOR LOCKER HINT HINT ANET in PvE i probably would just throw on Zerker (more likely to be Rampager tbh) gear, slap some Mercy Runes on it with some Sigils of Water and go with a Crit based pet build or something of the sort (Aka 20/20/0/0/30).

In chaos theory this is known as the butterfly effect. They have no means to use their heals, dodges because they are expended…

Everything that the 5 people do effect each other in EVERY way. I really wish “ill do wat I want” attitudes would atleast acknowledge this. Clerics with longbow/bear, you must be doing 1/4 the dps that they are doing.

Now I don’t mean to be so negative towards you about it and I really don’t hate on people for running what they like when I come across them. Though for high level fractals I’m sorry but you’d be getting the old ‘right click, gtfo’.

1g-worth lvl 20 green item

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Neoheart.2750

Neoheart.2750

Easely explained. It relies on the fact that alot of people make mistakes. I had it happen when i was lvling an alt and buying lvl 40 gear. I clicked the buy button at the same time i noticed it was listed for 3g. luckely i was able to repost it for the same price as I bought it (minus fees) and it sold within the hour which implies that its an mistake easely made. Most of the times the first item that shows up when searching for a green weapontype of a certain lvl is pretty expensive just for this reason. For instance the char greatsword of force at lvl 40-45.

You might explain the sells prices through accidents but what about the buy prices? The buy orders value them at 2x the price of lv80 rares. That would be a lot of accidental buy orders. One they have plenty of time to cancel. An even more extreme case would be the Charr Shield of Force. 13 buy orders at 2g+.

The half-eaten weapons are much easier to explain though. There was a time when they interacted with upscaling in a way that would give you a bigger stat boost than you are supposed to get.

Maybe these lv20 weapons are a higher level version of the same bug.

Yeah the buy orders are easily explained because people are making money off noticing these mistakes. I.e what happened to the poster above with the re-sale.

Also it cant be the sigil, that carries a minor sigil not major, they cost a couple of copper at most.

I personally deleted a level 80 mesmer, with 20 min old ascended amulet (waste lol). It was partly because i didn’t enjoy the play style or “pace” of the class but also because of the race. Had the race been different i would of probably kept it for crafting (which i had also maxed…waste). lol

In the future if i really wanted a change i reckon i would pay 1600 at a push. 800 seems a kitteneap consider the effort Anet would have to put in (more than makeovers, new slots etc). Also new slots are 800 if i remember right so surely its worth more than just rerolling?

Race selection for ranger?

in Ranger

Posted by: Neoheart.2750

Neoheart.2750

I picked human myself but i think out of all the races it suits norm the best. Mostly because of their lore and the GS animations (maul’s bear etc). I also think the legendary warhorn is well suited for norm above all others. Their racial elites are just lol atm…watch the “heavy hitter” video, its a good laugh.

Sylvari, yea i get that they are the “elf” style race but the way the human male runs….its just not “right” for me. Female i have yet to actually roll. The racial elites seem quite good, i’ve seen the hound popped along with a rockdog /w pet tearing a bunker guardian apart before lol.

Charr, well i’ve seen quite a few cool looking charr rangers but i’ve always thought they look best holding a rifle, dual swords or swinging a hammer. The very nature of the charr (see legions, black citadel and steampunk theme etc) makes it seem like ranger doesn’t really suit the charr. Not to say it couldn’t suit the odd one here and there for RP reasons as it makes the character stand out quite well i guess. Raciasl are probably meh compared to RaO/Entangle.

Asuran, same as charr really. Doesn’t suit them too well but that’s what might make the character special. I cant remember ever seeing one but i’d love to see one with the shortbow legendary lol. Im sure i’ve heard of certain mesmer builds finding use for their racial elites but that maybe bs. Again though i’d stick with the ranger specifics.

Human, well not much to say, suits all classes as usually is the case in MMO’s. Racials for the most part are pants imo, others with certain classes/builds might disagree. For me, if they were the only option i’d rather put a ruby orb in that slot or something…maybe even a copper doubloon.

Just my, probably bs 2 cents

This is a link i made for my ranger that i started a few days ago:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-F;4wEFu-c2oDV-0;9k8;2TO-E-06B04;23;34NF05;9n-FvVHg2SVYLdOVTWYXcYi3o_930C-2iV8;3F;03c00P;9;9;9-kkkkkk;2kkV0;3VR77h

The build was put together by a guy called Brazil and as far as im aware he is a very good ranger. As you mentioned it has all the traits/utilities that support not only your own but the parties DPS (spotter, frost spirit, frost spirit buff etc).

I havent played much outside of PvE but i’ve seen a couple of good shortbow, sword/x or axe/x condi build youtube videos so you might wanna consider that for roaming. As for zerging longbow and greatsword with piercing arrows and 1500 range seems to be popular.

In s/tPvP for quite some time now the ranger has been competative with the spirit build. If you play spvp you’ve probably faced several of these. It has always been very popular so you should be able to find the build(s) easily.

1) i am already close to uninstalling this game tbh because all i face is engis in pvp and it is pretty much hopeless to fight them on thief; if they nerfed build i play (d/p) i don’t think there would be any really viable tpvp build left so i wouldn’t be able to pvp really unless i reroll other class…

2) i am not quite sure, there are not many options left really… i guess if our utilities got nerfed it would be the end, at least in pvp

3) i would assume majority play in wvw since pvp community is relative small, so wvw changes would probably have bigger impact

4) considering that the buffs we got recently were more of tooltipp change and placement of useless traits in lower tier…. yeah go figure

5) any nerf to survivability… it is already very very low

The nature of the class makes it annoying to fight despite how ineffective it is (see: “run away warrior specs”). It also makes it a lot of fun to play meaning that even though you have to work 3x as hard as some other classes to do the same things the overall satisfaction is greater. What I’m trying to say is that even if they nerf us into oblivion people will still be calling for nerfs because stealth, by it’s very existence, causes some people to have mini-strokes. The flip side is that even when useless people will still play it just because of the fun mechanics.

So yes it will survive. The real question is if areanet balances off of quantitative data or popular opinion.

recent nerfs indicate the latest…. i really wish they would actually look into thief issues and not what issues other classes have with thieves :/

I honestly think that unless more game modes were introduced in s/tpvp then the thief will always be a hot join class. With such large conquest zones and AoE circles its just not suited to such a small scale map with such a focused objective. Take the facts that from the scoreboard they already know your a thief and after your first kill know your build its easily avoidable/counterable while still securing the win or holding out for reinforcements.

Anyone knows whether piercing arrows hits more mobs than 3? Because that is one part where it could beat melee, even if it deals less damage. If you can hit 5 instead of 3…. I dunno. Maybe the more experienced dungeon runners are gonna enlighten us on that.

Trash mobs aren’t what the focus is on, its highest single target damage that “people” care about.

I use ranged in dungeons too granted, but then again that’s because I don’t give a rats kitten about what’s optimal in dungeons and as such I tend to stick with running with a group of friends to avoid headache xD.

Yeah your absolutely right, i wasnt trying to be an elitist just pointing out how they think and may act. If i pug i rarely kick people outside of being afk and will usually have a go at the group for instigating a kick for not using specific skills etc. “he bought his copy of the game, not you”

This post is the nutshell. If there were any more nerf’s like the dec 10 ones thieves would have to see some significant buffs so that they actually have an idea of what anet want the thief to be.

I played s/d mainly with a bit of s/p for dungeons/fractals but decided to reroll just before the dec 10 patch. I was growing tired of feeling i was shoe-horned into one role, one build and also the negativity around the class. I just didn’t feel like the class had a positive future, atleast in the short term.

I loved the thief in all game modes so it would be sad to see it destroyed so much that players even more dedicated than me be forced to reroll class or MMO.

I think the problem comes from the fact that alot of players who play gw2 are just people who enjoy games and not the meta following, BiS seeking, number crunching MMO gamer. They pick classes like the warrior or ranger because (like said with lotr) have seen these types in fantasy films or other fantasy games. They also probably dont even look at the pretty numbers on screen alot so dont realise that melee damage is superior.

Thats the reason i think warrior, ranger and “rogue” are the most played classes, its also the reason i think they have the most “bads” and its not just because of the population difference.

A good ranger spends more time in melee than range, a bad ranger spends more time playing indie steam games than gw2…if you get my drift

The part I bolder is totally false, you know where rangers die? Melee range , you know where a ranger isn’t beaten? At ranged, I run LB, Axe/dagger for a reason and it’s sure as hell not for the min/maxing damage nonsense it’s to survive and win.

I was talking about dungeon/fractal running sorry i wasn’t clear on that. I think this is where most of the people have a problem with bearbow and why people get kicked etc. Granted there are situations where ranged is required in instances but if the rest of the party are melee then there is no need for LB, sorry. Also this is not “my” opinion and im quite happy for anyone to use anything they like when PuG’ing but 99% of the groups i join want to play optimally so they have a big problem with sub par builds/weapons and this is why and where the problem with “bearbow” lies.

Other content is another matter. My statement in bold regarding dungeons is infact correct.

A good ranger spends more time in melee than range, a bad ranger spends more time playing indie steam games than gw2…if you get my drift

which legendary? (if any)

Yeah personally i dont think any of the legendaries suit ranger too well (besides maybe the horn for a norn lol). Though people like different looks for their characters so each to his own.

Hopefully like mentioned the new set of legendaries can or will be more suitable for you.

Thanks for the reply. I was playing around with the weapons last night and i actually like the sword with auto attack disabled. Not a big fan of the axe main hand but i can see its uses in condi builds.

I also like the bird pets, from what i gather they are some of the better dps ones…also harder for click targeting in pvp lol

Whats the current dungeon running “meta” build? I’ve read that HS, spotter and frost spirit are excellent but not sure of traits and offhand weapon(s).

OP thanks for posting this, I cant remember ever laughing at a gaming video and this one made me lol several times.

Makes it even funnier knowing that if it happened to you ingame you would be like “daaafuqqqqq!?” while flying through the air on 5% health.

Priceless, post another one

Tbh I could see rangers having access to more stealth in the future and this is similar to blinding powder and not far off decoy with the stun break. Though if your idea was used I could see it being a 60sec CD and not 40.

Hey there rangers, So I’ve decided to roll a ranger with a possible change to main. Ive been playing since release (with a few months break a while back) as a thief, recently I rolled a Mesmer and since getting it to 80 and trying out several builds in several game types I just cant get into it. Not quite sure what it is but its just not my playstyle.

Ive always been interested in the ranger (almost picking it on release) and im looking for a decent levelling build and also which pets are best to seek out to use before and at end game.

Don’t worry im fully aware of the “situation” you guys have been in since release, the up’s and downs, the dungeon kicking or free loot bag abuse and the dodgy mechanics but im not bothered about these things to much. I just want to find a class that I really enjoy let alone stomach for more than a daily login.

I’ve fought a couple of good rangers in WvW who were very skilled using the sword and regardless of win/loss I felt they had out played me so I love the fact that there is a skill gap. Obv “bearbow” in open world pve/levelling is a go to face roll but im looking to get used to melee before the end game dungeon kicking begins (lol :P).

I’ve read a lot of posts in here over the past hour and however bad it may be it does sound like a class I could enjoy like I did the thief before my break. So, if anyone could point out a levelling build, any tips, any good end game builds or just anything lol I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance and keep your chins up

I’ve chucked all that into a build just so you can see. You should have no problem running CoF path1 and 2 speed runs. GL

Build help for fresh 80

in Mesmer

Well, I had a hard time deciding this too when I first got to 80. It was rough the whole time and will be since mesmer is your first 80. Since you’re a newb, buy green knight’s gear for EVERY SINGLE SLOT AVAILABLE, INCLUDING JEWELERY! Use this to run Honor of the Waves (Maybe TA, but it may be too hard for you.) p1 and p3, maybe farm frostgorge for an hour a day after your runs. You’ll be able to get your Rabid gear in no time and then use a PU, or, Prismatic Understanding build with conditions and a focus on clone death. It was my first build I used for WvW and as a Mesmer…. I was not disappointed. After using it for a while I actually salvaged the gear because I got bored from never dying and diving into 1v3 with confidence of victory. Good luck, to ya, and welcome to the mesmer community.

No offence but what your advising isn’t very good advice, especially since he has pointed out he is running dungeons.

Anyway,
First thing you should understand OP is the meta, classes, gears and builds. The advice given to you is fine for running a condi build in WvW etc but thats pretty much it. PVE in this game revolves around direct damage…and that’s it.

Taking that into mind what i would suggest is first to stop running AC and start running CoF(path 1 and 2). Its a very fast and popular dungeon and gives Berzerker gear stats…which is the go to direct damage gear. Build up your weapons with this first focusing on 2xswords first and then a focus (if you put the other sword in the free offhand slot you will use the first for both sets, so only need 3 weapons to have 2 different sets).

Build wise the PvE “meta” for the mesmer is heavy phantasm builds as they provide the best direct damage. Try 10/20/0/25/15 picking the traits that support your phantasm’s, reflect, shorter CD’s on weapon phantasm skills and shorter CD’s on glamour skills.

As for your utilities feedback is a must have, its always good to carry a stun breaker and either of the 2 are good. You could take either of the boon signets or nullfield and all have their uses. Many people use different builds or slightly different utilities but until you actually explore mantra builds etc i would stick with these lot, or a combination. Always take feedback in PvE tho! Elite wise time warp is great and always useful in PvE situations where mobs are static.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of what makes the Mesmer a popular party member in dungeons and you will have full zerker exotics in no time ready for your next milestone.
