I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I’d like a “pull an ally to you” ability. A way of getting a guild to you if he’s over extended
That’s what I’ve always wanted Merciful Intervention to be. ( or at least a “pull downed ally to your location” )
I would kill to have merciful intervention have that effect. Not only for utility purposes, but for trolling my friends purposes as well lol (pull ally before he downs an enemy for lolz)
Troll-resistant version would be it only pulls them if they are downed.
Guardian can be immune for 3 sec (4.5 whit a useless trait) but CAN’T MOVE OR DO ACTION while use this skill.
Not this again.
You can move during Renewed Focus. If you don’t you get an animation specific to it, but you can break the animation and move. Just don’t dodge.
F1 – fight!
F2 – flight!
It’s really what adrenaline is all about.
I’m thinking I seriously DON’T want to tempt them to make mystic forge recipes that require more than 250 of something…
The technology you are suggesting… it would be used for evil.
Definitely add all three unlimited use tools as permanent items in the BLTC. I understand that they arose from a specific event, however, they really should be immortalized in the store. They are basically convenience items for players and profit for Anet. Convenience and profit should really not be temporary in the game.
But selling through fear of missed opportunities… that’s immortal.
I want to buy expansions to my collection tab – buy a bundle that adds collection tab spaces for the various embellished jewels for example. Another bundle that lets me store all the dowels I make working on weapons. Any intermediate component that is not used directly (and my there are a bunch of them for cooking) would be specialized storage & convenience I’d be willing to pay for.
Have to agree. I looked at the armor initially from a female Norn character. I thought, “Hmm. I can use those pants here, and maybe the coat on another character, and the shoulders on my Charr…” thinking if I could find enough places to put pieces I’d buy it (hate the gloves, no clever plans for the helmet yet, the boots might see use…). Then I saw what the armor looked like on males and yeah, the shoulders dropped right out of the plus column of my value calculations and now I’m hesitating to by the package at all.
I probably will get one bundle before they are gone, but its reluctantly rather than enthusiastically.
Given flat transaction fees on the real money side, I think you can be thankful the minimum unit is 800 gems…
I can suggest some light armor that will look very close. Did you have a specific weight/class restriction to work in?
Suppose for a moment I have a powerful need to murder a warrior…
…What are these speed-blinder builds we’re talking about?
The ones that come to mind for me are all pulsing fields I can move out of and start ranged fire back into while I wait for the field to collapse. Ranged bursts quickly come into play as serviceable ways to dump adrenaline for cleansing.
I have to admit I find most medium armor really, really annoying – why even have all the neat patterns and crafting of the pants when my chest selection almost invariably covers the pants down to my ankles. There’s only 2 medium tops for females that don’t. One is locked up in an ugly as sin gemstore outfit, the other’s ok only IF you want to flash an awful lot of skin. (There’s also so many times when you can only apply 3 colors when there are obviously 4 regions that could be colored separately…)
Here’s a little photoshop job of the armor I WANT to be able to display on my Ranger…
Renewed Focus = tremendously useful.
I do my damage through conditions primarily… and I have to say Settlers’ gear (Toughness main + condition damage/healing power) is rocking for survivability.
With the Signet of Malice self-healing and the ridiculous amount of death blossom spam with the reduced initiative cost and roughly ten bajillion hits from daggerstorm in a crowd… I’m way safer when I get attacked by 3-4 people than when fighting just one. I don’t even touch cloak and dagger until I’m down to just one opponent.
Can I have your stuff?
He gave me his stuff. I can share it though.
This is the thieves forum – shouldn’t we be planning a heist to steal it?
I’m running a super unicorn (D/D signet of malice, caltrops, all settlers armor/weapons apothecary trinkets) and even before the patch it felt like godmode to me in dungeons and had a tempo I could actually manage out in WvW.
This patch was nothing but buffs for me (lower initiative cost on dagger 3 & 4, signet heals significantly increased). I’d say the changes are a lot more tightly targeted at specific builds the Devs believe to be preforming above the bar, because they clearly aren’t going after thieves as a whole when a not-so-long-ago popular build like mine made out that well.
Do you still see Rox’s bow and quiver up there? You remember her? From the Living Story content?
I’m thinkin’ the answer is rather obvious.
The only question is how soon.
There are 5-6 names for these – corresponding to the tier of mats you get from then when salvaged (both metal and charged widget). You kill some aetherblades in a lowbie zone, you can look forward to copper. Crack a big one, you might get a core.
If they are anything like the molten ones, you might want to use up some spare black lion kits when you do it, too.
It took me a moment to figure out what you were suggesting… but wow, that IS kinda neat.
I agree it doesn’t need to be unique by banner carried – just having something there. I’m actually kind of inclined to make it some sort of “rally the troops” action with the radius based on the number of adrenaline bars. Something that plops down a big visible circle and any ally that can get into it before the channel ends gets their conditions removed or something.
I could also see some sort of self-immobilize + a 1 second per bar of complete invulnerability like the Guardian Renewed Focus as you ‘show the colors’.
First of all, its Hundred Blades…not sure if you’re trying to be funny or accentuate your anger over nothing.
Sorry, “1,000 blades” is an old wuxia movies term and I just got it stuck in my head . And I’m not angry at all – just pointing out that the underlying theme, consequence, and DESIGNER INTENT of the changes is obvious – the combinations being disrupted aren’t being disrupted accidentally. Those combinations are the primary target of the warrior changes.
Secondly, what the hell class do you play that has an issue with HB?
I play the “I’m older and slower than I was 10, much less 30, years ago” class. Fortunately my build comes with a really sweet tax bracket and lots of free time to play games like this. I’m much sharper with stunbreaks out in WvW than I was even a month ago. But fact remains across 8+ years of MMOs that there is nothing I find more tiresome than “mez’d to death” gameplay. The pattern of Warrior changes is an old and familiar one – less burst and more sustain so that fights are not decided in a single combination. I’ve found quite a few MMOs committed to PvP evolve towards slower time-to-kill rulesets and that’s what I see in many of the changes described in the leak.
How could you possibly let that full attack land on you?
Hmm. How could they possibly have felt a need to distribute stun breaks more widely…? Oh! I know! Pick me pick me!
Because we weren’t all carrying stun breaks?
I guess maybe they thought they’d make some changes so people in set-ups other than 100% roamer would get victimized a little less often on their way from place to place that actually has scoring value.
After the first mob he started whining at us to carry his banners, to which I responded with /laugh and off I went with my own banner in hand, the team ignoring him also… It is a huge inconvenience and an unreasonable thing to expect from a PuG.
Bizarre. Actually I’m always a little startled how often other people grab my banners and tote them along. I usually just fire-and-forget: I have two so I can easily alternate back and forth to maintain continuous, mobile regen coverage with quite a bit of overlap time. Pick them up? If we move out from one and the hits start piling up I just drop the other without comment. Part of being support is fluidly enhancing the play of whatever group you’ve got. Carpet bombing an area with multiple banners to stack buffs is something I do soloing veterans/champs, not in groups.
With 4 banners to choose from, I’ve never had trouble coordinating with a fellow banner warrior. I just change out to whatever the other guy is not using after the first fight were I see what color of curtains he’s hanging. And regen banner warriors are crazy rare in pugs. If I do meet one, there’s plenty of other Tactics traits I can swap too. Even more so if this patch looks anything like the leaked note. That combined longbow trait will be very nice.
For the Norn Racial Turret, I could see
Healing Turret – Owl Totem
Thumper Turret – Bear Totem
Rifle Turret – Wolf Totem
Rocket Turret – Snow Leopard Totem
Net Turret – Raven Totem
The idea being that they’re still clearly mechanical contraptions, just decorated in a fashion that reflects the builder’s culture.
There’s so much good Iron Legion imagery, I have no doubt Charr Engineer turrets would be immediately recognizable even through the haze of awesome.
As to opponents needing to know a few extra looks, I don’t think it’s any more onerous that having to know what the duplicate GW1-reward pets Rangers carry around look like. There is ample precedent for multiple unique looks for a common class mechanic.
My studies indicate ‘racial turret’ lifespan would be increased by at least 16% just because of the waves of sheer awesome they would radiate.
WHY does whining have no CD?
I lol’d. Literally.
I find my Guard is best for tapping in swarm events (Pen/shelt, etc).
Individual monster mash like in the Frostgorges or the Sparks-&-Air-Elementals-Murder-Hour in Malchor’s Leap my Ranger is pretty much a farming machine.
Infinite light looks kitten good dual wielded.
I hate you.
Just a little bit.
In a good way.
I think.
(but seriously, grats, that is awesome.)
How could you be a scammer, when there is NO UNIVERSE in which someone is going to mail you leaf of Kudzu before you have handed over at least 80% of the gold agreed upon, if not 100% up front.
Hope you don’t have trust issues.
(I’ve had people I don’t know beyond the current task hire me to craft full sets of exotic armor and I tell them to mail me the ingredients for one piece at a time so they know their risk is the minimum possible. Honest traders and crafters are out there, but there’s not a lot of intermediate steps to build confidence with when it comes to a precursor…)
On the bright side, DPS warriors (and I actually mean GS warriors) just got kicked in the junk – nobody will have to try and compete with that anymore after Tuesday. That levels the field a bit and I’ve always found my wells-DPS necro does nasty damage even before they planned to shorten well cooldowns across the board.
Looking to be a great week coming up for my entire stable of 80s .
So, my Asura has wandered the known world, shot Krait and Risen, Sons of Svanir and Dredge, and all other villains great and small.
Along the way, he’s seen turrets.
Heck, he’s a connoisseur of turrets.
Love ’em, love ’em, love ’em.
Proper Asuran cube-tech emitters (oh how I wish they were MINE).
Innovative Sylvari fixed position bio-weaponry (now that’s ‘dug in’!)
All manner of pepper-grinder styles devices that could only have come from the minds of Humans… Those clever monkeys.
Honestly, all we need are some blisteringly awesome heavy-metal turrets as imagined by the Iron Legion, and several flavors of Norn Totem-poles with concealed firing ports (Owl-themed Healing Turrets for the win- screw you Jormag!) and we would have unique turrets for each race.
I really feel this is a comparatively low development overhead improvement to give Engineers more visual punch.
Oh, and it would be just plain cool!

Seriously what the heck is A-Net thinking?
Is it really so hard to tell what they are thinking? They are thinking pure DPS warriors are significantly above the target values, and in no small part because they are able to pin opponents long enough to deliver 1,000 blades with absolutely overwhelming regularity. The central nerf was less cripple and therefore less automatic success of long, immobile damage cycles. Associated nerfs deal with easy maxing out the adrenal pool at the open of the fight to again deliver 1kB as the core gambit of every encounter for those builds.
They poked a couple high damage, bursty builds in the eye with a sharp stick, and buffed dang near every other aspect of warriors. What they think pretty much speaks for itself when looking at the game as a whole rather than championing 1-2 specific builds that are popular precisely because they are over-performers. Warriors get to be a bit better overall, but that mode of play is getting a boot on its neck, and believe me every single player at the receiving end of it is breathing a sigh of relief. Being immobilized and then ground to nothing by 1kB is simply NOT FUN.
Sorry if you were running what got the hammer. Adapt or move on. But the reasons those things are getting nerfed aren’t exactly a mystery.
Best of luck with anyone landing Whirling Axe in PvP/WvW. I’ll give it two hits before they barrel roll and calmly walk away until you’re done, it’s a non-dagger-throwing-non-projectile-reflecting version of Dagger Storm, A.K.A useless.
I am fairly certain a button 5 should come out pretty weak when being compared to a 30 point button 0…
Its excellent in PvE and there are always moments in WvW where position is everything. Stand in front of a sally port ant watch every character trying to crawl back inside (and being pelted by your allies cripples and immobilizes), and button 5 is the same as on a blender – “liquidate”…
I run 2 banners with increased radius and perma-regen (plus the warbanner for crisis management). Add in a little sword/horn with AoE condition removal on 4 and 5 and ‘for great justice’ and I get by in groups just fine .
My numbers look like trash, but the TEAM is a roflcopter burning through dungeons.
Wait, does this mean “looking for 4th and 5th warriors for CoF… all others need not apply” might finally stop being the bass-beat of LA zone chat? They have metrics tracking folks – you had to know that behavior was going to summon one mother of a nerf-hammer.
I generally run Sword/Horn + Longbow and 2 banners, for great justice, and war banner (AoE perma-regen). I can’t say I saw much in the patch notes that affects my build negatively.
If this were the Black Lion forum we could expect John Smith to drop by to itemize the shortfalls in the survey’s methodology in 3… 2… 1…
But its a class forum, so we’ll just have to imagine it .
So, steal will be overpowered when traited and so-so when not… Yep, nice functionality balance.
Nah – Steal can be the centerpiece of your spec, but every one of those added effects comes at an opportunity cost somewhere else.
Trade-offs.
Unload + Signet of Malice = Gleeful Thief
So basicly… its a Burn that procs of critical hits and deals condition damage, but is in our power tree. Not our condition/critical chance tree…
Mind=Blown
We get Power and what from that tree? Hmm? Go on. Check.
Just a word to people considering new Spirit Weapon builds: Battle Presence affects the spirit weapons and can keep them in the fight quite a bit longer than otherwise.
Spirit weapons actually seem to benefit from all your party buffs. You have a LOT of options for enhancing spirit weapon builds .
One way or the other, this thread is going to be hilarious on Tuesday.
(I’m inclined to think the list of changes is correct as of 1-2 version back internally, and what we actually get will be 90% what we’re seeing now)
non flavor of the month? you just picked the wrong month, You unicorn build isnt special just because it isnt currently meta anymore.
Kickin’ it old school, yo?
Given how effective I’m finding it, and how well it suits my play speed (which I have the feeling is just a little slower than the current meta) I’m just happy to have found a thief I could operate. And that particular brand of thief is getting huge buffs.
as far as wall to wall 100% buffs, tell me how sword/pistol having its most useful condition on auto being REMOVED, its most viable stunbreaker being REMOVED would be wall to wall buffs?
Easy: I don’t use a sword/pistol. Its wall to wall buffs for ME, because I don’t happen to be operating the over-performer getting the nerf bat.
Yeah sure. I love having a 14% damage buff of a skill whose only use is in melee where mobs will nuke you down.
What? You just blow away as dust on the wind when mobs get near you? Maybe I just don’t roll as fragile as you like to, but in my world enemies and certainly enemy players ALWAYS manage to spend at least some time in melee contact.
The +14% isn’t on button 1, sure. Its on my escape, which if I need to push I’m pushing it. I might have missed something about the “utility” in skill 4, because I was pretty sure that skill’s function was damage (primarily via pet). And 5 is an interrupt – it interrupts the target and it interrupts ME too. Having those necessary breaks in the 1,1,1,1,1 spam hit harder is a good thing.
I’m not saying it was an overall buff, I’m saying if you played rough, its a negligible loss with a silver lining.
As to the pet nerf, to be honest If I’m in a dungeon, I just leash the fernhound to me so it stays alive to give regen. Maybe I was underestimating the amazing damage contribution of the insta-gibbed attack pets (what is the dps contribution of a corpse, exactly…?) but to me the value of the canines was in their pounce CC and their f2 skill, not their “gnaw old bone” or whatever their auto-attack is called .
While the shortbow range reduction is annoying in some circumstances, I’ll take the +14% damage BUFF thank you very much!
My pets’ auto attack took a nerf… * shrug *
Plenty of other little buffs to weave together into new builds. Gonna be a great month for people who spend their time experimenting instead of mourning.
What I would like to see barrage obey the laws of ballistics a little better.
Really? You want to never be able to fire it indoors/in a cave/under a tree/with any sort of obstruction over your head AND for it to be absolutely canceled by the target being under any similar sort of cover?
Yeah, I think I’ll stick with what we’ve got now, thanks.
can you just pretend im really stupid (i know, hard) and give me more than 2 words?
fresh air is not doing anything about the cooldowns for the actual weapon skills. yes, you can get more Electric Discharges to fire, but what is the point if the skills in air are all still going to be on cooldown?
I would imagine the power of Fresh Air is to dump a couple air skills, swap to a second attunement, do your business, swap to a third attunement, fling a skill or two and then instantly jump back to air. As you say, its not going to be for going from air to something else and then directly back to air.
Or just plain be doing non-air stuff as your primary rotation and yet always be able to jump to Air even moments after a swap if you need it.
Its kinda moving your wallet from your back pocket to the front – so you can reach for it faster. If you’ve already got it out, of course that not gonna be a big advantage .
I’m not even sure how to respond to someone who feels WvW is a PvE activity rather than a PvP environment.
I don’t go out to the borderlands to fight Skritt and Centuars for hours at a time… I’m looking to stab players.
(edited by Nike.2631)
…And some of us playing thieves that are serviceable but not flavor-of-the-month-bandwagon builds are quite pleased by the wall-to-wall 100% buffs we’ll be getting if those patch notes are correct.
My Ranger will get tweaked a little in response to the changes, but my pets (Fernhound, Hyena) were there for regen and pounce much more than for damage output.
In fact with my having 80th level characters for 7 out of 8 classes, the notes look like an absolute smorgasbord of potential for finding new or reviving old builds that can now compete on a more even footing with the 5-6 overpowered freaks that people try to use as the baseline for “viability”.
Is everyone else looking at a different set of patch notes? Because the ones I saw say +14% damage to several of the SB skills. Maybe it’s too many nights watching Lord of the Rings, but I used the short bow from darn near melee range already. I figured that was kinda the point of skill 3…
Kind of sucks that they put the new condition on a venom. Would have preferred to have seen it put on P/D #3 or attainable via a trait.
I’d say introducing an entirely new mechanic in a limited pool – 3 of 8 classes only, and locked behind utility skill commitments is an excellent way to test the waters.
If it doesn’t crack the universe into equal thirds, THEN appending it to weapon skills becomes a lot more likely.
My advice is get out there and work that new venom. Work it so they can build up some data on how Torment really performs off the white board.
Cluster Bomb range set to 900 from 1200.
This is so stupid if true.
Ranger shortbow skills all got dropped to 900 range. Don’t expect for a moment that Thieves are gonna get more range out of a weapon than a Ranger would.
I was thinking about lobbying the ranger boards for shortbows reaching to 1,000. If that were to pan out, I think cluster bomb range going to 1,000 might be more plausible.
The nerf to infiltrator’s strike…making it not a stun breaker…is this serious? If so, they completely killed the non-stealth thieves and an entire style of play.
I’m running a non-stealth thief and I’m in hog heaven with these changes. Could you be a little more specific about what sort of build you are saying is “completely killed” by the infiltrator’s strike change?
This will be an unbelievable buff to my thief (D/D signet of malice 0/0/10/30/30 super unicorn variant)
1 gets double the poison (on a condition damage build, hot kitten )
3 the cornerstone of you damage and self-heals is 20% cheaper/fires 25% more often
4 key to keeping enemies from wandering off gets 25% cheaper/33% more spamable while in pursuit
6 the passive heal that is already amazing with the right armor gets 33% better?
Throw in Slowed pulse is easier to trigger and a shorter cooldown on pain response…
Its like my own personal godmode.
