Ok, I got taken to school big time by a thief with a vanish-all-day-long build (by all 6 gods that’s infuriating – but I’ll learn how to counter it better) but outside of that…

Its a brute. A bone crushing, unstoppable brute. I’m soloing camps pretty easily and I’m learning the pacing of my skills to use the ones that generate massive self healing once I’ve actually taken some damage.

Still mastering the little bit of stealth gameplay it does have, but as a blunt instrument it’s impressive.

Just wanted to update that my Thief hit 80 and is now loaded up in full settler’s armor/undead runes and heading out to do some WvW. Wish me luck!

Just put them at the easy jump puzzle in lion’s arch. The loot table from that one is responsive to the character’s level – if they are 19 to 29ish (not absolutely certain of the band boundaries) then opening the chest will generate 2 pieces of gear and a t2 jewel. If you’re on target expect mostly jewel-lumps, but the occasional silver doubloon.

Grats. I’m working on Infinite Light too for my Guard. I have over 100 of the lodestones but its still a hell of a slog.

I think it involves causing state-wide internet outages.

I got a ticket at the same time as I killed my 254th holo-critter. I haven’t been aggressively farming other critters for boxes, but obviously I’ve gotten some that way.

I have no idea what I’m going to do with it. There are a couple of skins that are nice, but I assumed I’d never get one and went on about my business.

Might get the focus. I thought that one was clever.

I’m up to three in a row being killed for daring to touch one of these things on any map other than 1-15th level zerg-fest.

I’m sure Queensdale is better for it, but out in Snowden Drifts these things are nothing but a deathtrap now.

I get it that the holo critters were too fragile. I griped about this quite a bit in game myself, but is your event technology absolutely OBLIVIOUS to the number of people around when someone clicks these things? I KNOW the dynamic events can detect hero-population in the region, and were talking one check made at the click…

As an on-level for the region player in Queensdale, having the mobs die before I could tap a single one because there’s a swarm of 80s standing around sucked.

Having them be too tough to take solo isn’t much better.

Scaling. Its something you should be able to figure out.

I bought all the gear, but I actually needed to level up the thief . The class has long been simply the hardest for me to get, but even in in its infancy I’m really starting to like this build!

After logging out completely and logging back in the gems re-appeared. I was then able to purchase the sickle which arrived in good order. Matter resolved, though the behavior was till on the weird side.

I bought 800 gems and then immediately bought a consortium sickle. Instead of the sickle the only thing I received was the free box of dragonbash minis. The 800 gems are now gone.

There is plenty of space in my mail box. I got the email confirming gem purchase. The log of items purchased shows a sickle as my most recent buy. No sickle, no gems.

Thoughts on what happened here or how to proceed?

(…and for the love of the six gods, why do I need to create a separate support log-in to create tickets instead of just logging in with my account?)

I got the free minis… but the 800 gem sickle I bought with the gems that triggered it didn’t arrive, and yes, I had room in my mail for both…

How many times do they have to do an RNG box before people GET IT that the drop rates are “low”. Really Low. REALLY REALLY LOW.

Serious as a heart attack did you sleep through the last 2 rounds of boxes? What POSSIBLE previous experience could lead you to think that you’re bound to get a ticket?

I sank a few gold and grabbed a full set of settler armor + 2 settler’s daggers. I’m eager to try this beast out .

Supposing you had most of a set of medium settler’s armor (high toughness + healing/condition damage), what sort of build might you try out to leverage these stats?

The F&F dyes went north of my price range before the packs were gone from the store. There’s only one left that I want anyway, so no great loss.

Any other color I’d rather gather the materials myself and try crafting (I do about 1 rare grey dye recipe per week just as a background activity) than pay more than 1 gold for.

I’ll buy 2-3. For comparison I have 6 picks and 8 sickles.

I just don’t find wood to be that thrilling to acquire and sell. The special drop (treasure bags) is underwhelming. The prices are becoming useful (recently), but bots made picking up wood to sell a waste of time for a very long time.

If you don’t think bitters sell, you’ve never mixed drinks behind a bar .

Simply put, if flipping were prohibited (and there are some very easy mechanics that could do that) instead of having someone buy a pyre for 10g and sell it a month later for 60g – specifically for the purpose of making 50g minus fees off of another player, the item would sit there until a buyer-with-intent-to-use came along and paid 10g. The seller gets what he asked, the buyer gets what he wants more cheaply, and nobody gets to sit around gloating how stupid their fellow players are. While it clearly wouldn’t sell quite as fast (because history shows us that the flippers get there first) we have a trading post where your goods don’t automatically de-list after a day or two.

But mostly I’m just saying that F&F dyes seem like an incredibly solid investment… and I’d like the game to occasionally remind people that even a gimme like that is subject to some risk. I’d have one I’d be sitting on for possible sale later myself if I hadn’t accidentally equipped it, but that one came out of a F&F pack, not from the TP .

If Irl is finding them in 40-50 PvE side, then the corresponding hunting ground is going to only exist in the eternal battlegrounds. The borderlands harvest nodes never get above tier 3 that I know of. Right around Stonemist is T5, so you probably want outlying areas of EB. Look for platinum, then look for plants near it.

Given that I regularly go pick up 25+ coriander seeds in an afternoon (a similar herb patch item that only appears in 1/4 of one zone that I know of), I’m pretty sure if you figure out how to harvest these -properly-, you’ll never go to the TP for them ever again.

Figure out which zone it grows in. Walk around the area once with a well-geared 80, finding all the herb patches. Then hit it again with every character you have that’s that level or higher moving directly from patch to patch rather than screwing around the way you have to during your scouting run to get the lay of the land. If there’s no server resets you can even use that knowledge 2-5 days in a row. Boom. Anticipate a dozen in less than an hour.

Anywhere with large quantities of air elementals. There’s a big nest of them in Deirdre’s Garden (jump puzzle in Maelstrom) that has been put forward as a possibility. I don’t know of any other mid-to-high level air elemental areas (aside from the spots I mentioned previously). Shards would come from sparks quite a ways down the level scale. 50’s maybe?

The wine substitute is a joke. Its a horrifically expensive alternative unless you are processing large batches of lower rank materials. If you are dealing with cores-to-lodestones you’re better off using your laurels to buy unidentified dyes and selling those for coin to buy proper wine. And all other uses of laurels pale compare to getting a necklace with a utility slot – first for karma buff to speed up Orrian Boxes acquisition and second a separate MF necklace for farming the air elementals. After both of those are in your toolbox, maybe, maybe mystic binding agent. Maybe.

Schemes to squeeze gold out of other players is not something that needs a hell of a lot of protection IMO . Buying stuff as an investment is as much gambling as opening the kits in the first place was. The should not be ‘sure bets’, ever. Sound bets, yes, sure bets, uh uh. Agent Smith sides with stability, so it won’t be nearly as magnificent as its should/could be, but there’s simply zero reason to think the basic accessibility of any digital asset is gone forever.

No, park a character levels 19-29 at any jump puzzle chest. The Umlauh’s Secret puzzle in Lion’s arch works fine for this, but there are may others accessible to lowbies if you want to run around and do several in a single day (porting out to demongrub pits is a quick one too). The jump puzzle chest rewards table reflects the level for the character who opens in. If your character is in the right level band you’ll get a gemstone from the right tier almost every day, and some days that gemstone will be a silver doubloon. Its not a fast process with just one character and one chest, but doing it consistently will pile them up while you work on other aspects of your legendary.

From experience, even with the crazy doubloon prices the upgrading wasn’t always profitable, I had times I would’ve been better off just buying doubloons instead of upgrading RNG be RNG there is no 100% profit when you try such things.

I find once you factor in the value of not giving money to a person deliberately trying to screw you, processing them via fountain is ALWAYS the better deal .

They are selling you the choice as much as the item – wait on it and you no longer have the choice.

I bought picks for about half my characters (and I have a LOT of slots). I occasionally wish I’ve bought 1-2 more, but mostly I’m content. I suspect other versions of the pick with other graphics may come out and I’d buy those for my characters then.

The sickle I bought tons of. I have no doubts about the utility of not having to look up which sickle goes with which plant/zone. And I loves my some dye, so I kill every plant node I see on radar.

I’m a harvester, not a buyer. Buyers line their pockets with CoF p1 and expect me to do their work for them for peanuts out on the landscape. I’m loving the skyrocketing mats prices, thank you very much. I feel like I should do a victory dance around my desk every time I see the real, out on the landscape evidence of bot-harvesters being obliterated en mass.

Until thy become available again and the price crashes magnificently. Or they add other colors and people find a better fit amongst those and the demand evaporates and the price crashes magnificently.

Personally I’d like to see a truly appallingly long and expensive cooking recipe to produce a F&F dye pack (which more often than not spits out a normal color when opened). Something that takes 1,000 mats or more to create.

Sales are for people who buy gems with cash or prudently stockpile gems beforehand.

People who react to sales get a largely deserved hosing down.

Why would you craft a Minstrel?

A. Because I think all the Legendaries are largely lame (or at least inappropriate to the concepts for my existing stable of characters), and I’m after the seal on the log-in page. Plus most ‘cool’ Legendaries are done to death. You can’t swing a dead Charr in Lion’s Arch without cutting off it’s whiskers on somebody’s legendary GS.

B. I’m just barely creative enough to figure out a character concept that could rock a Phoenix-Harp, make the character, and then level them up to 80 in the background as I’m grinding out the mats for the gifts of might and magic.

I get charged cores from fractal runs (lower tier is MUCH better for this -level 4, 6 and 8 seems to be the sweet spots). I’ve also piled up a few from CoE. They are chest drops so MF is not desirable or helpful.

You can buy them for just over a gold each – I recommend buying them only 1-3 at a time. You put an order in for 30+ at once and you guarantee someone will out bid you rather than wait for your order to process.

The lodestones themselves can be farmed somewhat painfully by killing sparks, air elementals, and veteran air elementals at SW Malchor’s Leap and the very northern edge of Cursed Shore, while the Pact controls the Temple of Dwayna. Bring your magic find and if possible bring 2 friends. Groups of 3 can be very efficient at this. Larger groups actually outstrip the respawn rate.

I’ve also gotten a modest number from Orrian Jewelry Boxes (bought with kharma). If you have all karma buffs you can rack up +75% karma and the liquid karma return from the boxes can keep the cycle going a LONG time. Buff up completely, guzzle two or more months of daily karma pots and open a few hundred boxes for less soul-crushing results. The drop rate for each type of lodestone seems to be about 1%.

I just reached my 102nd charged lodestone – only 148 to go for Infinite Light…

If you spend time farming the actual mat rather than farming gold, you’ll realize they’re not nearly expensive enough… yet.

We had this conversation, verbatim, months ago.

Two easy solutions:
Park a character in the appropriate level range (about 19-29 IIRC) at a jump puzzle chest and log in and open that chest every day. Silver doubloons will trickle in. Multiply this by as many characters as you care to or spend some time going from chest to chest.

Grab a few hundred/thousand tier 1 gemstones. Start speed pitching them into the mystic forge. ALL of them. If they promote up to tier 2 but aren’t silver doubloons, throw those back in also. You can get silvers directly from tier 1 promotion and more often (though less cheaply) from tier 2 transmuting within tier.

The price is what is was because it takes time to combine them, but NO ONE has the clout to control all the tier 1 and 2 gems simultaneously. Stick it to the manipulator and go about your business.

Screwing you over how? The only endgame thing gold is guaranteed to buy is icy runestones. After that you’re welcome to come out and harvest mats rather than try and trade (declining) gold for them. The nodes are still there and in almost all cases so are the mobs .

If you’re unwilling to do the labor yourself you can hardly complain someone else wants to be well paid for doing it for you.

I say that because anyone who comes to the conclusion going to CoF p1 to get more gold is the solution to achieving their desires IS a gold farmer. Producing gold instead of producing the goods you actually want drives the prices up (or rather drives the value of coin down). I don’t spend my time digging up mithril to insure the prices stay low, I do it to get the maximum amount of coin possible out of the material, and the same is true of T6 mats. Good harvesting is not charity work, its just as competitive and aggressive as flipping.

I simply brought forth the fact that running cof p1 will gain you the mats faster than farming the mats themselves in the open world.

And as long as that is true, or appears to be true, harvesters who don’t act out of altruism not only want to see the prices rise, but also take steps to make it rise.

I view this as problematic due to this taking players out of the open world and into cof, and this means less people farming the actual mats and prices that keep rising.

It’s actually rather self-correcting. The game does a LOT of things to punish following the herd and to reward doing the things that get done less often.

Evidently you do, since you are concerned that my self-interest serves to push prices up, when prices should go up every time someone says “I’m not gonna work for what I want, I’m gonna work for gold instead…” in the blithe assumption that working for gold should have any value at all. More gold doesn’t get anyone closer to their objectives since gold doesn’t add the necessary tools to actually advance to the economy.

I’m worried how healthy this will be for the game and community in the long run. I also worry how this may have an effect on new players who will be at a severe disadvantage here with the rising prices. If the development you seem to be ok with continues, people will just not bother as they don’t feel the time they spend is rewarding them enough.

If I’m worried it’s because people are being given the impression that gold lets people advance in their goals, and that therefore getting gold fast is the ultimate goal of the game. Gold doesn’t let anyone advance – it just sets the order in which individual people do it. Ultimately the rate at which Gifts of Might and Magic (for example) are made cannot exceed the rate at which harvesting behavior kicks 250 of each T6 mat into the system. They aren’t made of gold, they’re made of mats.

Hi, I’m a harvester. I’m one of the people that goes out and gets those mats to drop so people who think like you have something to buy. I’m all for the people who actually add value to the system reaping the rewards. I’ll keep posting my stuff at or ABOVE lowest sale offer and watch the prices rise ’til it becomes apparent to everyone that gold (and gold farming) is nearly worthless and the mats are where the value is at.

I’ve never seen a “DPS meter” that accurately measures my contributions like applying and maintaining group-wide 16 stacks of might or maintaining 80% uptime fury across the team (because frankly 20%+ of your crit damage belongs to ME under those conditions when judging DPS done…).

A gauge visible strictly to yourself its possibly a tool for improvement, but the reality is its gonna be used as a measuring stick for pure ego. ANY sort of cross character gauging and you might as well have an inspect function first – and all the kitten droppings that go with that…

There’s a light, medium, and heavy set of armor in the PvP lockers (just before the Ascalonian catacombs set in each case) that has no PvE equivalent that I can find. How about making those accessible?

The town clothes may be easier, but you’ve reached saturation – we don’t need “easier”, we need some “useful” and some “good”.

The sickle animation is really bad.

I had already bought and equipped half a dozen characters (I really hate ruined plant fibers…), blithely trusting it’d be cool like the molten pickaxe. Cloning that animation with a burst of spring water instead of lava is just wildly lazy.

Hopefully this is a bug.

Or anyone who wants the class eliminated could just delete theirs without impacting anyone else’s experience with their personal urge to commit class-suicide.

There’s been a post about it recently that mentioned new legendaries being looked at along with the reliable activity path. Check the dev tracker maybe?

They can say “its FIFO” all they want. When I post a black lion chest with 210,000 units in front of me, and it sells within ten minutes and there are still around 210,000 units available I categorically DO NOT BELIEVE than 210,000 units sold and mysteriously the same number give-or-take less than a percent were reposted in less than 15 minutes.
