How do you feel doing the Thaumanova fractal?

in Asura

Nike.2631

I wish they had started with the Thaumanova Reactor map we see in Metrica Province instead of some mutant offspring of the Infinity Coil…

I wish a portion of it involved being teleported to the Crystal Caves linked to the reactor after (during?) the meltdown…

I wish it built on the existing lore of the location instead of seeming almost totally disconnected…

I wish there were evil, ambitious, cunning Asura in the world who did this thing for their own short-sighted gain instead of… well… Her.

But I did like being an Asura temporarily .

…here the next 3 examples of what would make the Sub Classes special with the Guardian Sub Classes:

Crusader – specialized in Weapon + Shield Combat, Great Swords, has improved Virtues and Symbols
Speciality: Crusaders have with their improved virtues some special “Auras” with that they can support better than before on longer range their allies.

Augmentor – specialized in Scepter/Staff Combat, Consecrations, Augmentations and Spirit Weapons.
Speciality: Virtues get exchanged with Augmentations, special Support Skills that can either have influences on the environment, or allies. They can create Barriers for example and Force Fields

Patron – specialized in Meditations, Healing Support, Boon Control and Condition Control
Speciality Patron Spirit Form is the special ability of the Patron, which can based on the chosen Virtue transform into various Patron Spirits.

What do you see as being gained by formalized subclasses over just adding those abilities as new traits/utility skills/weapons?

All I’m seeing is arbitrary gating of pieces of the toolbox forcing them to conform to specific visions even more so than the 5 trait lines do now.

Why make things less flexible and bet that one singular vision of the class will be more interesting that what emerges from tens of thousands of players tinkering with the same options presented as a spread within the existing framework?

This would be a good idea in general for bloodstone, dragonite, and empyreals as well. Some people flat out don’t do world bosses, or wvw, or get rediculously bored of the queensdale champ train. Other materials would be good of evening out prices as well.

The whole point of having 3 different materials (bloodstone, dragonite, and empyreals) is to force you to play all different parts of the game.

Read the original post – he’s asking to convert ascended Metal, Leather, and Wood to Cloth because the current set up makes cloth armor much harder to get than the other 2 armor weights.

Its not a Bloodstone Dust/Empyreal Shards/Dragonite Ore exchange being proposed.

Karma: this needs to become easier to acquire ?
1M karma is required for a legendary (250 obs shards).

This affects progression.
Many players pre-karma nerf who played many hours had in excess of 4M karma which kept things like cooking flowing in the market. Now that karma has become more difficult to obtain this is slowing down (and increasing prices) of items across the board.
This is another example of progress reset (negative progression) which affects the casual player base more than the hardcore crowd making it even more difficult for them to obtain the necessary karma to craft ascended or legendary items – if they are lucky enough to get a pre-cursor drop.

You still gain karma quite readily by playing – any event will give it to you.

If you think this is a “progress reset”, we have very different understandings of the term…

On the topic of Horizontal progression:

It might be nice to see Runes (and possibly Sigils) have their own slots on the character sheet.

Runes have a lot of potential for Horizontal Progression, but they make a bad situation worse when you either have to destroy them by overwriting or pay substantial Gem-costs to extract them when you’ve reached the point that you have some Ascended Armor but certainly don’t have multiple sets with the same stats just to carry your different rune-sets…

Its possible that if creating Ascended gear added it to a locker like the Zenith Skins, then this probably would largely go away without having to re-work the Hero page UI – once you’ve unlocked it you could pull out an additional set of armor and load it with your alternate Rune array. This would also be readily expansible to Weapons/Sigils: Once you know how to make an Ascended Wupwup 1-handed sword, you can withdraw as many of them as you need from the “Ascended Locker” to carry the different Sigils you’ve acquired. An ascended locker would take advantage that Ascended gear is not sellable/tradable.

Yeah… Upon consideration, craft once/unlock forever would be a LOT cleaner on the UI, addresses many issues with gearing up alts, and I feel would be a more reasonable return on effort required by the current crafting recipes.

(Ascended weapon and armor chests would also permanently unlock that item for your locker)

Flood Control? Seriously?

I’m not sure how ‘flood control’ discourages bad posting more than good posting.

If I’m posting multiple posts its because I’m interacting with multiple trains of thought. That’s generally positive for all involved and is certainly easier to read and understand.

If I’m on a rant, I only need a single post to gather up all my displeasure and let fly. Being blocked for a few hundred seconds is not going to cut down on hostile posting…

Yep this is definitely a valid concern. If the drop rate was higher though and it wasn’t just crafted then supply could be more deterministic in terms of demand.

Chris

Don’t increase the droprate, people can’t stand RNG. Just leave the droprate as it is and add Dragon-Scales that drop guaranteed after each battle. With (random number) 50 scales you can craft the weapon yourself.

Something people can work towards to.

Progression instead of slot machine?

Yes, please!!

Ok another brainstorm idea.

What if certain pieces of ascended gear could be crafted and sold on the TP such as gloves and boots?

Chris

No one deliberately sells at a loss.

All you end up doing is chaining that part of the system to gold, making it vulnerable to the Gold Farm/Gold Seller work-around of the moment. Having the ENTIRE GAME hinge on how many times you could stomach running CoF1 over and over was not a good time for the balance or gameplay of Guildwars 2.

I think you could make a fairly non-intrusive change just by making all Ascended gear Account Bound rather than Soulbound (Legendaries becoming account bound on first equip).

Brainstorm statement.

I am assuming that you wouldn’t want a progression system in which new skills and traits superseded/replaced existing skills and traits.

Thus all progression must be complimentary, enhancing your current roles, perhaps creating new ones rather than just making you more powerful.

So therefore the idea of statistical power creep is redundant?

Unfortunately, at this point you’re really asking the question “how comfortable are we at overthrowing the efforts of player who have already committed massive time, resources, and gold?” Early adopters have been taking a beating recently, from Fractal-Delvers to folks that bought the Flame-kissed armor.

Ironically, I find the new system to be extremely punishing on a front I haven’t seen mentioned yet. I like crafting. Specifically I like building/collecting complete recipe books. I suffered the double-whammy of having my old collections of Exotic recipes wiped AND the introduction of a new tier that ignores the idea of ‘discovering recipes’. Instead of a sense of discovery, you have to buy every possible slot/stat combination.

It now takes 306 laurels to fully train a single armor-making crafter (along with 510 gold and 357,000 karma). Was it really the intent that master crafters sink the larger part of a year’s worth of Laurels into nothing else?

I’d really like to see the emphasis within crafting go back to the joys of discovery and collection and away from the buying-your-way-to-completion…

…As long as the mountain of ascended recipes I’ve already bought are FULLY refunded .

Ironically, the more that people work themselves into a lather over Scarlet, I think the more arguably successful the concept is.

God save us from “there is no such thing as bad publicity” hacks.

I do find it consistently amusing that anyone actually thinks a company would toss millions of dollars worth of development effort on the scrap pile just because they don’t want it. That takes a rather incredible level of self-absorption.

I think it’s more tragic to have such poor internal concept review/checking that millions of dollars were spent actualizing such a manifest piece of trash.

And despite how important an ascended ring sounds (especially if you are playing Laurels for one) they are trash drops if you run fractals. Swapping one for another because a common-but-obscure ‘uniqueness’ rule caused you to goof might be within their power.

My Sword + horn/longbow warrior has a mini-drake to look more like a ranger.

My necromancer has the Wings of the Sunless and a matching mini-Tequatl for a familiar.
My guardian with Infinite Light has a mini-harpy (they carry the same sword)

Its not a big deal, but they can be amusing.

How balanced are 100% improvment traits...

in Ranger

Posted by: Nike.2631

Nike.2631

The idea (successful or not…) is that when a skills function is to do damage, increasing its damage by 5% or a conditonal 10% is multiplying off of the skill’s primary function/largest axis.

The traits that give 100% buffs are typically increasing a very tertiary function (e.g. +100% damage on a warrior’s physical skills) where the thing being massively multiplied is a very small part of the overall functions of the skill.

Doubling the length of Ranger stuns only makes sense because they are such a tiny part of our tools.

Obviously those in support of a vigor nerf are from the oldschool era where the gameplay was much much slower. Yes, lets just slow down the pace of the game just for you old geezers out there because you can’t react and plan in time to counter a players evasive options.

Its not about reaction speed – the individual dodges are just as demanding.

It’s about occasionally killing your gung-ho backside for not sinking so much as a single stat point into survivability. And under the pre-Dec 10 patch why should you since you could dodge everything of consequences and self-heal through what little remained.

If anything it speeds up the game. Because now you might actually get hammered by a big hit because you don’t have yet another dodge in your pocket.

If you’re out of range: he’s probably out of range as well

You realize you’re talking about GUARDIANS, right? Arguably the most piddle-poor ranged weapon set in the game (one choice: Scepters, and man does that auto attack suck). And a Mesmer at max range telegraphs their big hits to the point of absurdity.

Objects don’t hit back.

Almost the entire map of Orr begs to differ . But then again I’ve actually leveled a Guardian with that trait and I know kitten well which threats will NEVER proc Vigor.

L2use different stat combinations to get that desired crit chance and it does not have a serious impact on which weapons you have to use.

L2Use weapons. The weapon you use sets the tempo of your hits. That in turn puts an unavoidable floor on the delay before your next attempt to hit after the trait comes off cooldown, and a more distinct gap if that first hit isn’t a crit before you get your next try. The trait is sound with 1-h sword and dog poo with hammer. Stat combos have nothing to do with that aspect.

I get how the trait looks great on paper. The reality is FAR from the perma-vigor people ascribe to it. And keep in mind every single thing you said you could do to offset those drawbacks? Rangers don’t even have to bother, because their bonus in-flow of Endurance just doesn’t care about anything going on in the world around you.

So, yes, the change is a nerf and a tangible one. I for one hope it actually strips away some of the veneer of ‘tolerable performance’ Rangers seem to have in the eyes of the Devs and forces them to confront the class is fundamentally mangled and needs a far more serious overhaul. The problems with this class aren’t about whether or not they dodge-spam like a big boy, the problem is being chained to a class mechanic that doesn’t work, having terrible condition removal in a viciously condition heavy meta, and being presented as a “ranged class” in a game that takes a big malodorous dump on anyone of any class that tries to play from range.

Pick you battles. This one isn’t worth fighting them over.

I’ve read pretty plausible speculation that the “crafted” precursors will only include precursors for a new second wave of legendary weapons. The old one would retain their full market value while the new ones could be made or acquired as random drops/Mystic Forge outputs.

If that’s true they’d need to finish the art for the second wave before introducing the crafting process.

Pretty sure there’s more overpowered 5p trait on different classes.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Critical_Infusion
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vigorous_Precision

Do you understand how those traits work?

If you are out of range: no hits, no vigor. If you are stunned: no hits, no vigor. If you are blinded: no hits, no vigor. If you are blocked: no crit, no vigor. If you are fighting any of the hundreds of objects or bosses that act like objects: no crits, no vigor. If you hit but don’t crit, no vigor. If you are a condition damage build: low Precision, few crits, spotty vigor.

You have to gear for it and it has serious impact on which weapons you can use if you want high vigor uptime.

Just happened to me too – clicking Recipe: Infinite Ventari Tonic gave me the Giver’s darksteel inscription.

Support request started, but wanted to mention it here too.

Yeah, when this skill gave a passive syphon hand had some actual synergy with other Necro traits there was hope, but now its just rubbish.

The internal cooldown on the passive is also just plain awful.

Frustrating Patch (December 10, 201)

So just because one build has too much evasion, we’re going to Nerf nearly every single ranger build? Logic?

You just explained the logic yourself – when “nearly every single Ranger build” includes one trait, its pretty %#&@ing obvious that trait is overpowered for its cost.

Two months to review and analyze feedback but they didn’t change a kittening thing.

I agree. That aspect of this patch is repulsive.

Frustrating Patch (December 10, 201)

Get over it. No, really. They’re reducing the most overpowered 5 point trait of any class as part of a general reduction of Vigor because dodge-spam in this game is so over the top that Berserker (all offense, no defense) actually works out to be the best general armor stat set in the game. Its one of the dumbest things about this game and it needs to be corrected, aggressively.

Yes, Rangers can tank. Rangers actually have some of the most durable bunker builds going. These changes add some variety to how you can set up to bunker.

Longbows are a long range weapon and they made them better in close. That’s as good as you can hope for, but hey, why not demand more? ((snort))

Want to know what Moment of clarity is for? Put down the ()#(*@! longbow and try out a short bow. You’ll figure it out soon enough.

Maybe they destroyed your narrow vision of the class, but there’s actually a lot of helpful tweaks in this patch. They didn’t address our core issues, but it’s still a number of steps in the right direction.

Could you imagine the nightmare that would follow if these were just added to the options available to making new characters? There would be enough nerd rage to power the city of New York until the end of time that existing mains have to pay to use them while new characters get them for free.

Simplest solution is don’t take it. I mean nobody takes it.

Then they patch it later.

It seems like this had a more effective form earlier in testing and its the victim of last minute nerfs. I kinda wonder what miraculous build we’re not seeing that scared them so badly…?

They only people that it matters to convince… aren’t convinced. .

I’m betting the best of the Hammer Warrior players out there will still make it look easy mopping the floor with the rest of us after tomorrow’s patch .
