Exception: c0000005
Memory at address 02f604e0 could not be read

Then in that case the next thing I would check is your RAM, its possible that the module is being corrupted in memory and causing this error to show.

A basic test would be to remove all of the memory from the PC and test the game with each memory module in the PC one at a time.

If this is not possible for you (i.e. computer has a warranty) then you can download software such as MemTest86+ or use the built in memtest function on newer windows operating systems to check for any faulty memory modules.

Hi glen,

the crash seems to be happening with Module: nvd3dum.dll which is related to nvidia graphics drivers.

Can you check that your graphics drivers are upto date and running on the latest version.

Network Authentication "Bug"?

Nitro.4732

Ok basically, now and again when I sign onto the GW2 client when it’s the little box window when u enter your info. It logs on then sais stuff like “Waiting for authentication” because it keeps logging me in with a random network thats not even mine…like I get network authentications for MY log ins on networks in darby or wales or crap like that and I just dont get why its not recognising MY own network when I sign in.

This can happen as your IP address is owned by your ISP who operate in multiple cities and may share one cities pool of ip’s with another city when they need more IP’s

so long as the location is nothing drastic like its on another continent (like china one day and america the next) you should be ok. For example my IP sometimes says scotland and sometimes england and I certainly don’t live in both places at the same time. I personally do not associated my network with my authenticator simply for that extra security thakittens guaranteed to ask for the 6 digit code always (and what is a few seconds to type in 6 digits each day to guarantee the safety of my user account)

You will get that 1% magic find in the next chest. First is the 500 point chest. 1 chest per day until ALL are paid in full to you. People NEVER read the patch notes anymore…

Seriously uncheck the “autoplay” on your log in screen so you get a chance to see the latest news and have a chance to click on the link!

I think Hydra is correct — the first chest I recieved today was for reaching 500 achievement points retrospectively. In the Achievement panel it says for 500 AP you will receive 1x Achievement Chest, 1x Laurel, 1g and an account bonus of 1% magic find. Tomorrows reward is for 1000AP and rewards 1% gold from loot.

I too have the same problem where both the achievement panel and the hero panel report 0%magic find.

I have a hard time believing that any commercial internet provider would block port 80, it simply doesn’t happen. If that was the case the why would you buy an internet package that blocks access to any and all websites by default.

It sounds more like seeseafly is trying to circumvent an access rule put in place most likely on a network that doesnt belong to them, for example a school or work network.

Today the problem occurred again while playing Khylo.

I attached the temperatures. I think they are overall too high, and I’ll take a look at them, but even thou the temperatures from my own pc (with the same hardware) have been nearly the same, which indicates, that the problem is somewhere else.

It looks like your CPU is running at a high temperature, is it overclocked by any chance?

Regarding your attached screenshot of temperatures, I see there is a temperature listed under the 4 cpu cores as “Package” — I am assuming this means the temperature at the Integrated Heat Spreader level. If I am correct then you have a problem with your CPU overheating as the maximum recommended temperature from Intel for the Tcase max on the IHS is 67.4 degrees celsius and yours is currently at 70c.

This may be a separate issue and may not resolve the black screen issue but I felt it was worth pointing out.

Only has a Intel® HD Graphics 4000 graphics so performance will be poor.

Earthchild has already said they are happy with the Guild Wars 2 performance, and are looking to find out if Guild Wars (the original game) will perform the same.

If the laptop can perform well enough to keep you happy whilst playing Guild Wars 2, then there should be no reason why Guild Wars 1 won’t do the same. Its requirements are far less than Guild Wars 2 and should run very well on the listed specifications.

Game/all programs crashing, memory issue?

Nitro.4732

Out of the blue one day, game began having serious issues with framerate and crashing. Told me memory management or bad processor, but I’ve put in new RAM and tried out a separate CPU.

Hi Lahamu,

I have a few questions based on what you have said in my quote above.

  • What type of memory did you use?
  • Does it match the memory that was already in the computer?

The reason I am asking these question is because you cannot just add any sort of memory or mix different modules without checking their compatibility, they work on a cycle / timing to be in sync with each other. If the memory modules have different timings this will produce blue screen stop errors relating to CPU management (as it tries to find a balance between both memory modules bus/frequency rate.) or to memory management when errors happen due to signals being out of sync.

Also if you swapped out the processor but kept the same motherboard and Operating System then you will need to uninstall the old CPU driver under device manger and allow windows to restart and re-detect the CPU hardware for the appropriate driver.

just a mid range consumer router will work fine an be safe enough upnp is better enabled of you use a few games and differt bits of software unless you want to forward ports for everthing manually it’s not rearly a big security risk for home setup not many people will bother trying to hack through a router firewall for a home computer it’s not worth the time

In my opinion this is extremely bad advice, UPNP is a serious security risk and the reasons may not be as fine cut as gaining access to a single computer behind a home router.

Weaknesses in UPNP can allow viruses and malware to spread quickly, or even allow the multiple devices like smart phones, tvs, printers, ipads, laptops, desktops, PDA’s on a single network all be easily used as part of a botnet.

however don’t take my word for it:

" Tens of millions of the devices were susceptible to cyberattack as a result of any one of several vulnerabilities "
NetworkWorld

" The US CERT has advised users to disable UPnP on routers following the discovery of a serious security flaw in the easy-access technology. "
Bit-Tech

" All told, we were able to identify over 6,900 product versions that were vulnerable through UPnP. This list encompasses over 1,500 vendors and only took into account devices that exposed the UPnP SOAP service to the internet, a serious vulnerability in of itself. "

Honestly, if you are going with an A10-6800K and a video card then you would be better off getting a 4.2GHz FX-4350 with an Asus M5A97 R2. The FX-4350 has 8MB of L3 cache that the A10 doesn’t have.

Taking this advice on you could change it up to this : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1c0f6

so i should use port forward or port trigger instead of that udnp or undp thing

Universal Plug ‘N’ Play or UPNP from a security stand point is safer disabled whilst manually handling forwarding through the use of port triggering/forwarding rather than to have UPNP enabled as it has seen its fair share of exploits in its time.

So yes from a security view this should be disabled (or as some people call it UnPlug ‘n’ Pray).

For $600 it seems that you are better off going AMD for gaming in general (not just Guild Wars 2). Granted there are complaints about AMD’s performance in Guild Wars 2 — but when you are on a budget its hard not to consider AMD, and you can still get decent results for your money. I did consider trying to build an Intel equivalent but as soon as I added any of the well known “K” versions there was a sizeable chunk of the budget gone, which meant no real over clocking potential from intel platforms would be gained. However with AMD you can get something like the 6800K for far less and more importantly with in your budget. Combined with a decent cpu cooler (such as the Hyper 212 EVO) you can overclock and narrow that gap between Intel and AMD even further all whilst staying with in that budget.

Here is what I came up with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1bZ8u

CPU: AMD 6800K Quad Core 4.1GHz
FAN: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance
GFX: AMD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB Sata 6.0Gbps
(could save money by re using your current one if compatible)
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX600 — 600 watts
CASE: Gigabyte GZ-F5HEB ATX Mid Tower Case
(could save money by re using your current one if compatible)
DVD: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer
(could save money by re using your current one if compatible)

Price after all combo’s and mail in rebates: $598.89

Have you tried running FurMark or some other GPU stress tester for a few minutes? If it glitches or crashes the system you either have a graphics driver problem or faulty hardware.

Oh, and if your GPU is already near dead, stress testing can kill it for good. But it sounds like you may need a new one anyways.

It could also point to an under powered GPU or an overheating issue — not necessarily a faulty component that requires replacing.

Ports 80 and 443 should not be required to be port forwarded however ports 6112 and 6600 may need to be depending on how you configure your new router. I personally would also use port triggering rather than port forwarding. ICMP protocol can be prevented and the game will still operate just fine.

Unless you have a serious need to protect your computer for reasons more than gaming and day to day essentials then you do not require “Check Point, Juniper Networks, or Cisco” dedicated hardware. These will also be far more advanced than required and offer very little extra in regards to protecting computers behind a home internet connection.

Any router (like the Asus RT-N16 or Linksys E3200) that supports open source firmwares such as DD-WRT/Tomato can be advantageous as they are usually easier to stay up-to-date. These firmwares tend offer the same features and more than some highly price premium routers, and there for can be value for money.

Also browse the forums and you may also see some router models that have known issue with GW2 support, for example the Netgear D6300 requires disabling of its SPI Firewall/DoS Prevention in order to allow GW2 players to play the game without getting the black screen problem. This will also require an update from Netgear in order to resolve the issue which may take time to release an update (if they ever do).

I know it’s annoying dude, but i really doubt there’s something they could do about that. It’s minor clipping and it often happens with long hair. It’s not an armor-related problem.

Hi Fjandi, thanks for your reply. Something can be done, it can be fixed, I am sure Anet will not be happy with it either. Wether or not they are allowed to allocate time to fix the issue is another story. I would like to believe that Anet would see this as a major bug as it ruins the artwork and should not be expected in a AAA titled game.

It is an armor bug as other armor pieces do not have the hair sticking through the chest piece, also when the character moves the hair is more visible as it moves as well.

Game keeps crashing.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Nitro.4732

Nitro.4732

Hi Flyingfridge,

Without seeing the crash logs (located in the Guild Wars 2 folder in your Documents folder) I would say the most probable cause of these crashes are caused by the following:

  1. 2GB System memory — This is the minimum requirement however you will have other applications using memory (including the operating system using roughly ~ 700MB -1GB) leaving you with much less memory available for the game.
  2. 32-bit Windows operating system — 32-bit windows is known cause crashes with GW2 on systems because its limited to how much memory it can allocate to an application.
  3. Windows Vista SP1 — Your operating system is out-of-date, you should update to at least the very latest service pack which can be done using the free windows update service.
  4. Out-of-date Drivers — judging by your service pack level of your operating system its reasonable to conclude that other things such as drivers are also out-of-date, such as your graphics driver.

Also please note that the crashes could be caused by other means like:

  • Unstable overclock of hardware
  • Failing hardware
  • Corrupted game files
  • Interfering software such as overlays.

If we could see the crash logs from previous crashes it would help narrow the problem down and perhaps point to a solution.

Nitro.4732

After purchasing the Norn T3 Cultural Armor (Heavy Stag Armor) for my guardian, I was disappointed to to find a lot of clipping issues with the art work which ruins the experience of finally achieving this armor (119g for armor is pretty expensive considering the numerous options available for exotic level armor compared to T3’s rare level)

The problem is that with any character with long hair (i.e pony tails, or beards which norns tend to have!) clips through the front chest or the hood of the armor.

It is more noticeable once the character moves, I know weapons/shields clip but I can live with that as its not that bad, however the characters hair clipping is annoying to the eyes.

I have attached a few screenshots to show what I am talking about.

Hi Lukhas,

This is seems to be an oversight on updating the text for the buffs information dialog. it is the same for the guardians “strength in numbers” and the rangers “spotter” traits aswell.

They do work correctly, however it seems like the text for the buff was forgotten when changing the values from 70 to 150 in all three cases.

Hi HellzoneKiller,

There is a new hidden zone in this area with a new point of interest which will unlock soon with the new sky pirates update. once this happens you’ll be able to visit it and get the new point of interest and complete the Gendarran Fields once again.

Hi SharikiZaRoliki.

You only have to buy the manual once after that if you wish to re-trait your character you simply speak to your trainer who will have two options for you. The second option will say something like “I wish to reset my traits” This only costs about 3silver 50copper, so there is no need to be wasting gold on manuals every time you wish to retrait.

On the second picture your effective level is 16 so you get only 70 toughness

I understand what you are saying, however I maybe wasn’t clear – no matter wether my effective level is level 10, 20, 50 or 80 the stat in the second picture remains the same.

I am unsure of what stat actually gets applied to the ally at level 80 as I currently cannot test this.

The events for Dragon Bash are over since the new content “Sky Pirates” was released, this means all the achievements listed under the dragon bash column are not locked and cannot be further progressed.

Hi Danny Shue,

please read this:

You can also keep upto date with the latest changes to the game via wiki.guildwars2.com which I would have linked to you but the wiki software seems to be bugged as it crashes safari browsers on windows.

Edit: nevermind, seems jeff beat me to it as I had to find an alternative source for the patch notes.

Guardian's "Strength in numbers" trait

Nitro.4732

HI there,

I would like to report an anomaly that I spotted with my guardian build. On my traits window I can select the trait “Strength in numbers” which states allies can recieve upto 150 toughness depending on my level.

However whilst activated the boon/trait section on the user bar states that allies recieve upto 70 toughness. I have no idea what allies are actually recieving between the two stats. However it seems something isn’t quite right.

I have attached 2 screenshots showing the problem.

Within the last 30 minutes I have had 6 crashes all stating the error “c0000005”, memory at address 000000000 (all zeros, cant remember exact number) could not be read/rewritten or something like that

I didn’t play for a few days but prior to patching I had no problems whatsoever.
Here is my diagnostic log.

You are posting in the wrong thread, this is for LAG (latency) issues in game and disconnections. It is not for game crashes due to software bugs or physical hardware faults.

Crab Toss Achievements

in Last Stand at Southsun

Nitro.4732

How are we meant to get any of these achievements related to the crab toss event done if the lag whilst doing the event is in excess of 5+ secs of delay. It takes so long to update or skills to activate thakittens completely impossible to know whats going on and to deal with it.

Further more we only have until the 4th June to complete these achievements, I personally have 3 left but I am nowhere near finished getting my crab grabber title as I keep rubberbanding away from the crab.

This is not a Connection issue with my internet/computer as the rest of the game content is fine with no lag (i.e. Fractals, Dungeons, Personal Story, PVE Cities). However the second I join the crab toss instance I am lagging so badly its hard to even activate a single skill. Also when its this much of a hassle to activate a single skill I don’t even want to think about how I am going to get the crabtactular achievement when it takes so long of a delay between screen updates.

I can’t believe I am actually complaining about this as its the first content released in the game thats actually Annoying rather than fun!

CPU Overheat problem

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Nitro.4732

Nitro.4732

Hi Nehuy,

I would double check your thermal compound, you mentioned it was silicone based, which is pretty typical of cheap thermal compounds. For high performance (for situations like overclocking) you’ll want a silver based compound as its thermal conductivity is far higher.

For example the approximate thermal conductivities of typical compounds in W/(m·K) are:

Ceramic (silicon based) compound: between ~0.5 – 10
Metalic (silver based) compound: higher than ~400

Voltages are also important, the higher the voltage the higher the temperature. A higher than needed voltage will cause the cpu to run hotter than normal. I would check the manufacturer website for specifications on the cpu and check to make sure you are using the correct voltage. Also “Auto” settings can typical give a higher voltage than needed on motherboards, so set your voltages manually.

Also if you are overclocking and increasing your voltage to do so, then you’ll want to have Loadline Calibration (LLC) enabled!

Hi SpedalFlux,

Have you tried the usual remedies for this problem? those are:

  1. Port Forward all required ports (6112, 6600)
  2. Disable Quality of Service (QoS) or add an additional rule to prioritize Guild Wars2.
  3. Disable Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall. The SPI firewall used by some brands has been known to block key packets from GW2. Some brands may also call this feature “Stateful Firewall” , “Advanced Firewall” or even just “SPI”
